Abstract:
In current automated manufacturing systems, production managers try to implement more efficient and effective scheduling methods which play important roles in supply chain by maximizing utilization of the installed equipments and throughput as well as meeting customers' various demands. In relation to enhancing capabilities and responding demands, some raising issues are discussed, which are transportation of lots between manufacturing lines, management of urgent jobs and workload balancing among areas. In this research, by discussing these scheduling issues, a new concept and its design, which is called as line-level scheduling, are suggested for advanced planning and scheduling systems in the manufacturing systems.

Abstract:
In this paper we present an approach for combining on-line concurrent checking (CC) with off-line built-in self-test (BIST). We will show that a reduction of an aliasing probability can be obtained for manufacturing testing by monitoring the output of a concurrent checker and a reduction of a probability of not detecting an error in the computing mode can be obtained by a short periodic BIST. We will present a technique for optimal selection of error-detecting codes for combined on-line CC and off-line space-time compression of test responses for BIST and estimate probabilities of not detecting an error for the approach based on integrating CC and BIST. We also present a technique for on-line error-detection in space-time compressors of test responses for BIST.

Full text
Abstract:
Whenever the data acquisition is restricted to line surveys rather than areal surveys, seismic processing is necessarily in two dimensions. In this paper it is argued that two‐dimensional (2-D) processing is preferably applied after transforming the point source responses into line source responses. The effect of this transformation is a correction of the amplitudes in the data. For single‐component acoustic data as well as for multicomponent elastic data a line source response is nothing but a superposition of point source responses. Hence, in principle a line source response can be synthesized by integrating point source responses along the desired line source axis. In practice, however, this integration cannot be carried out due to the incompleteness of the data. It is shown that the integration along the source axis can be replaced by an integration along the receiver axis. The underlying assumption is that the wavefields exhibit a certain type of cylindrical symmetry. For horizontally layered acoustic and elastic media this assumption is fully satisfied. For 2-D inhomogeneous media this assumption is approximately satisfied, provided the data are sorted in CMP gathers. Having transformed the point source responses into line source responses, the results may be considered as “true amplitude” 2-D data. Hence, proceeding with existing 2-D seismic processing techniques is then justified.

Abstract:
One of the requirements for an intelligent system is to construct a virtual reality in the computer. For materials development, the “reality” is a laboratory or a production line used to improve some aspect of a material by changing its composition, processing parameters, service conditions, etc. In the case of information in libraries, the reality is a search that uses a thesaurus and bibliographic (fact) databases. The greatest barrier faced by users of materials information is that of accessing necessary information through both a librarian's view and a scientific/technological expert's view. One of the objectives of a virtual production line is to reduce this barrier through user-friendly interfaces. In designing materials, two typical approaches are combined to solve a given problem. The first is a top-down approach, in which a number of requirements are resolved to a set of possible and practical solutions for satisfying these requirements to a certain level. Almost all alloy development has followed such an approach. The second approach is a bottom-up approach, where different materials properties are described on the basis of underlying theories, preferably using first principles and fundamental data. But the vast number of possible materials makes the bottom-up approach unrealistic on its own. Instead, semi-empirical approaches are needed to bridge the gap between ad hoc data sets for practical applications and results produced by the bottom-up approach using fundamental data and first-principle calculations.

Abstract:
It can be deduced from previous studies that there exists a research gap in assembly line sequencing optimization model for mixed-model production lines. In particular, there is a lack of studies which focus on the integration between job shop and assembly lines using fuzzy techniques. Hence, this paper is aimed at addressing the multiobjective mixed-model assembly line sequencing problem by integrating job shop and assembly production lines for factories with modular layouts. The primary goal is to minimize the make-span, setup time, and cost simultaneously in mixed-model assembly lines. Such conflicting goals arise when switching between different products. A genetic algorithm (GA) approach is used to solve this problem, in which trapezoidal fuzzy numbers are implemented for variables such as operation and travelling time in order to generate results with higher accuracy and representative of real-case data.

Abstract:
Organisational learning is the topic addressed in this qualitative comparative case study. The purpose is to investigate the role of local line leadership in professional development processes. Two kindergartens participating in the Norwegian national in-service programme Competence for Diversity were studied. A combination of inductive and deductive analyses led us to introduce two dimensions: leading contextual interplay, with proactive and reactive values, and practice development, with fragmented and integrated values. One of the kindergartens appeared to have organised the professional development process more productively than the other, and the findings point to a combination of integrating dialogues on practice, and proactive managers as possible keys to understanding kindergartens as learning organisations. The model seems to capture, to some extent, the holistic view of the learning organisation as a structured relationship between individual and collective learning. The managerial role as local line leader stands out as important for understanding learning in this type of organisation.

This research explores two interrelated problems in Mixed-Model Two-Sided Assembly Line (MMTSAL), which are line balancing and model sequencing. These two problems are solved simultaneously using Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) with the objectives of minimizing total utility work and idle time by considering various practical constraints. The problem is analyzed using small-size to large-sized test cases using General Algebraic Modelling System (GAMS) with the solver CPLEX. Experimental results indicate that integrating the problems help to minimize the proposed objective function. Also, it is found that the feasible solution for model sequence with the assignment of tasks to assembly line is optimal.

Abstract:
The objective of this study is to develop an analysis method to predict the reduction of welding distortion of stiffened plates by line heating. The equivalent loading method, based on the inherent strain theory, was established to analyze the heat straightening of stiffened plates. The heat input for the analysis was obtained based on experimental temperature variation curves. Temperature distributions during two- line heating process were calculated by two-dimensional heat transfer analysis using the finite element method. The degree of restraints was estimated by combining the experimental data of simple specimen and unit loading analysis. Equivalent loads were obtained by integrating the inherent strains, which were determined from the highest temperature and the degree of restraint. Finally, the equivalent loads obtained were imposed, as applied loads, on the elastic analysis to predict the reduction of welding deformation in stiffened plates. If the basic experiments for several simple cases are carried out, the proposed method can be extended to the analysis of heat straightening of welding distortion of more complicated stiffened plates and ship hull blocks.

Abstract:
This paper outlines a new method for performing base line corrections on accelerograms generated by the quick-release dynamic testing method. These accelerograms are produced when highway bridges are subjected to dynamic excitations by initially deforming the bridge structure and subsequently quick-releasing the loads causing the deformation. This base line correction method is developed in such a way that the step function character of the quick-release base line is preserved. It is this feature which allows the static deformations of the structure to be recovered by integrating the accelerograms. The reliability of the method is demonstrated by a series of laboratory measurements comparing the displacement time series obtained by double integration to independently measured displacement responses. These laboratory comparisons indicate that the offset displacements are accurate to within about 5% on the average. The method was applied on accelerograms obtained during a quick-release full-scale test of the Meloland Road Overcrossing, and some examples of this application are presented.

Abstract:
The estimation of the cross-correlation of shear strength parameters (i.e., cohesion and internal friction angle) and the subsequent determination of the probability of failure have long been challenges in slope reliability analysis. Here, a copula-based approach is proposed to calculate the probability of failure by integrating the copula-based joint probability density function (PDF) on the slope failure domain delimited with theg-line. Here, copulas are used to construct the joint PDF of shear strength parameters with specific marginal distributions and correlation structure. In the paper a failure (limit state) function approach is applied to investigate a system characterized by a homogeneous slope. The results show that the values obtained by using the failure function approach are similar to those calculated by means of conventional methods, such as the first-order reliability method (FORM) and Monte Carlo simulations (MC). In addition, an entropy weight (EW) copula is proposed to address the discrepancies of the results calculated by different copulas to avoid over- or underestimating the slope reliability.

Abstract:
Battery electric multiple units (BEMU) are an effective path towards a decarbonized regional rail transport on partly electrified rail lines. As a means of sector coupling, the BEMU recharging energy demand provided through overhead line islands can be covered from decentralized renewable energy sources (RES). Thus, fully carbon-free electricity for rail transport purposes can be obtained. In this study, we analyze cost reduction potentials of efficient recharging infrastructure positioning and the feasibility of covering BEMU energy demand by direct-use of locally produced renewable electricity. Therefore, we set up a model-based approach which assesses relevant lifecycle costs (LCC) of different trackside electrification alternatives comparing energy supply from local RES and grid consumption. The model-based approach is applied to the example of a German regional rail line. In the case of an overhead line island, the direct-use of electricity from adjacent wind power plants with on-site battery storage results in relevant LCC of EUR 173.4 M/30a, while grid consumption results in EUR 176.2 M/30a whereas full electrification results in EUR 224.5 M/30a. Depending on site-specific factors such as existing electrification and line lengths, BEMU operation and partial overhead line extension can lead to significant cost reductions of recharging infrastructure as compared to full electrification.

Abstract:
Contactless capacitive (open-air) sensors are applied to monitor overvoltages near overhead line terminations at a substation or at the transition from underground cables to overhead lines. It is shown that these sensors, applied in a differentiating/integrating measuring concept, can result in excellent characteristics in terms of electromagnetic compatibility. The inherent cross-coupling from open-air sensors to other phases is dealt with. The paper describes a method to calibrate the sensor to line coupling matrix based on assumed 50 Hz symmetric phase voltages and in particular focuses on uncertainty analysis of assumptions made. Network simulation shows that predicted maximum overvoltages agree within typically 7% compared to reconstructed values from measurement, also with significant cross-coupling. Transient voltages from energization of an (extra-)high voltage connection can cause large and steep rising ground currents near the line terminations. Comparison with results obtained by a capacitive divider confirms the intrinsic capability in interference rejection by the differentiating/integrating measurement methodology.

Aiming to support organizations in this sustainable development challenge, this paper explores the strategic management principles of ISO 9001 and supply chain integration from the lens of triple bottom line sustainability. Derived from theoretical synergies, a conceptual framework for integration, measurement, and improvement of triple bottom line sustainability is constructed and a business diagnostic tool introduced to facilitate the implementation of the framework. The developed conceptual framework and diagnostic tool are verified through an expert panel-based Delphi study and positive relationships formulated between the management principles of ISO 9001, supply chain integration and sustainability management. Abstract:
Purpose Line–cell conversion and rotation of operators between cells are common in lean production systems. Thus, the purpose of this study is to provide an integrated look at these two practices through integrating job rotation scheduling and line-cell conversion problems, as well as investigating the effect of rotation frequency on flow time of a Seru system. Design/methodology/approach First, a nonlinear integer programming model of job rotation scheduling problem and line–cell conversion problem (Seru-JRSP) was presented. Then, because Seru-JRSP is NP-hard, an efficient and effective invasive weed optimization (IWO) algorithm was developed. Exploration process of IWO was enhanced by enforcing two shake mechanisms. Findings Computations of various sample problems showed shorter flow time and less number of assigned operators in a Seru system scheduled through job rotation. Also, nonlinear behavior of flow time versus number of rotation periods was shown. It was demonstrated that, setting number of rotation frequency to one in line with the literature leads to inferior flow time. In addition, ability of developed algorithm to generate clusters of equivalent solutions in terms of flow time was shown. Originality/value In this research, integration of job rotation scheduling and line–cell conversion problems was introduced, considering lack of an integrated look at these two practices in the literature. In addition, a new improved IWO equipped with shake enforcement was introduced.

Abstract:
In this paper, a new metamaterials-based hypersensitized liquid sensor integrating omega-shaped resonator with microstrip transmission line is proposed. Microwave transmission responses to industrial energy-based liquids are investigated intensively from both numerical and experimental point of view. Simulation results concerning three-dimensional electromagnetic fields have shown that the transmission coefficient of the resonator could be monitored by the magnetic coupling between the transmission line and omega resonator. This sensor structure has been examined by methanol–water and ethanol–water mixtures. Moreover, the designed sensor is demonstrated to be very sensitive for identifying clean and waste transformer oils. A linear response characteristic of shifting the resonance frequency upon the increment of chemical contents/concentrations or changing the oil condition is observed. In addition to the high agreement of transmission coefficients (S21) between simulations and experiments, obvious resonant-frequency shift of transmission spectrum is recognized for typical pure chemical liquids (i.e., PEG 300, isopropyl alcohol, PEG1500, ammonia, and water), giving rise to identify the type and concentration of the chemical liquids. The novelty of the work is to utilize Q factor and minimum value of S21 as sensing agent in the proposed structure, which are seen to be well compatible at different frequencies ranging from 1–20 GHz. This metamaterial integrated transmission line-based sensor is considered to be promising candidate for precise detection of fluidics and for applications in the field of medicine and chemistry.

Abstract:
The impact of deep excavation to the stability of adjacent slope is evaluated based on the slip line theory. Stress field of slope under various excavation conditions is simulated by finite element method, while slip line field is determined by non-associated flow rule. Factor of safety is obtained by integrating the skid-resistance and the shear stress on each slip line, and the slip line with minimum factor of safety corresponds to the critical slip surface. Two typical displacement constraint boundaries are considered. The results indicate that the critical slip surface moves towards to the slope surface and develops downwards. The factor of safety decreases with the excavation process. For flexible displacement constraint boundary, large deformation of supporting pile causes obvious variation of critical slip surface and factor of safety. In terms of the stiff displacement constraint boundary with internal supports, deep excavation only has limited effect on the slope stability.

Farming contour and terrace fields using automated guidance systems with global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers requires appropriate geographic features for effective guidance and soil and water conservation. The objective of this paper was to develop methodologies for improving and designing guidance features for operating guidance systems in contour and terrace fields. This study was conducted in the Texas High Plains where contour and terrace farming practices are prevalent in slope fields. Four case studies were used to demonstrate the application of a geographic information system (GIS) in optimizing guidance geographic features, including line smoothing, line extending and connecting, creating swath AB lines, and guide-to-line features. Line smoothing removes sharp angularities and curve oscillations on guidance line features, resulting in smooth and more effective guidance operations. The line extension and connection method creates a more convenient and simple guidance feature by combining multiple AB lines. Guide-to-line features derived from AB lines can eliminate confusions when using a guidance system with multiple AB lines in fields with complicated topographic attributes. A methodology was also developed to create guidance AB lines by processing the elevation data generated by a guidance system with a real-time kinematic (RTK) receiver. Guidance line features created in this study satisfy user requirements for effective guidance operations and soil and water conservation. Integrating the application of GIS spatial analysis capabilities and automated guidance systems can enhance farming operations by improving or creating guidance line features, as well as satisfying soil and water conservation needs. Parameter selection for enhancing or creating guidance line features needs to consider unique field conditions and user requirements for simple, convenient, and effective field operations.

Abstract. A method of mapping electric fields along geomagnetic field lines is applied to the IGRF (International Geomagnetic Reference Field) model. The method involves integrating additional sets of first order differential equations simultaneously with those for tracing a magnetic field line. These provide a measure of the rate of change of the separation of two magnetic field lines separated by an infinitesimal amount. From the results of the integration Faraday's law is used to compute the electric field as a function of position along the field line. Examples of computations from a software package developed to implement the method are presented. This is expected to be of use in conjugate studies of magnetospheric phenomena such as SuperDARN (Super Dual Auroral Radar) observations of convection in conjugate hemispheres, or comparison of satellite electric field observations with fields measured in the ionosphere.

Considering the investment volume in the electrical energy infrastructure and the increasing awareness for global warming and climate change, this paper aims to deliver an enhanced transmission line losses evaluation method that integrates true environment financial figures. The enormous volume of transmission lines utilized in power systems across the world provides a considerable potential for energy savings by adopting the idea of “energy-efficient transmission lines.” In this paper the total owning cost (TOC) formula with built-in environmental components is used to assess the relative economic benefit of a high-first-cost, low-loss transmission line unit versus one with a lower first cost and higher losses. The proposed methodology is applied on the Cyprus Power System, by incorporating true financial data and system characteristics.

Abstract:
Line dance is one of the most important parts of physical education, which has been widely and deeply promoted in physical education. To sum up, the traditional teaching mode of line dance basically focuses on the three aspects of "teaching, learning and doing", that is, for the teaching content, the teacher teaches and the students follow the teacher to learn and do. Most of the students just master the set of movements taught by the teacher, can not create their own dance moves or even participate in the competition. Therefore, this paper analyzes the shortcomings of traditional line dance teaching, reforms the teaching content and teaching mode, and probes into the teaching mode integrating "teaching, learning, doing, practicing, researching and competing", so as to provide some reference for the teaching reform of line dance course in colleges and universities in China.

Abstract:
Titin, the largest protein known to date, has been linked to sarcomere assembly and function through its elastic adaptor and signaling domains. Titin's M-line region contains a unique kinase domain that has been proposed to regulate sarcomere assembly via its substrate titin cap (T-cap). In this study, we use a titin M line–deficient mouse to show that the initial assembly of the sarcomere does not depend on titin's M-line region or the phosphorylation of T-cap by the titin kinase. Rather, titin's M-line region is required to form a continuous titin filament and to provide mechanical stability of the embryonic sarcomere. Even without titin integrating into the M band, sarcomeres show proper spacing and alignment of Z discs and M bands but fail to grow laterally and ultimately disassemble. The comparison of disassembly in the developing and mature knockout sarcomere suggests diverse functions for titin's M line in embryonic development and the adult heart that not only involve the differential expression of titin isoforms but also of titin-binding proteins.

By integrating the electric field integral equation and the transmission line equation, an iterative solution for the electromagnetic field coupling to buried wires is obtained. At first we establish the integral equation which the difference between solutions of the integral equation and the telegraph equation satisfies. Then the solution of the telegraph equation is used to approximate the solution of this integral equation. Every following step of iteration is an improvement on the transmission line solution, and with several iterations, a well approximation to the solution of electric field integral equation can be obtained.

Abstract:
In this paper, a novel registration method is proposed by integrating the graph spectral theory and line features. The principal steps of our algorithm are as follows. Firstly, the images are filtered to enhance the reliability and robustness of registration, and line features are acquired by Hough Transform. Secondly, the original point features can be obtained by calculating the line intersections. The points are normalized to reduce computational complexity. Thirdly, voronoi diagrams of two point sets are extracted respectively. The original corresponding point sets are determined by corresponding voronoi diagrams, which can be obtained by Graph Spectral Theory. At last, RANSAC is used to remove the wrong corresponding points. The transform relationship of the two input images can be achieved using the corresponding point sets. The experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve high accuracy for the registration between optical and SAR images.

In this paper we reflect on the creative legacy of F.Ye. Vasilyuk. Understanding psychotherapy, considered as a multi-level psychotechnical system; educational projects; organizational, publishing and other activities of Fyodor Vasilyuk in the field of psychological counselling and psychotherapy — all can be thought of as an integral whole, as a multidimensional solution to the problem of the schism in academic psychology and psychological practice. Here we trace the following three lines in Vasilyuk’s work: from practice to science, from science to practice, and the line of integrating science and practice in education. The first line, “from practice to science”, is analyzed (by V.K. Zaretsky) in relation to how understanding psychotherapy has enriched the Russian tradition of exploring thinking through solving creative tasks. The second line, “from practice to science”, is reviewed (by T.D. Kryagina) in the context of studies of empathy in cultural-historical psychology and their impacts on the development of understanding psychotherapy and educational process. In the “education” line, A.B. Kholmogorova presents a brief outline of the history of the first ever Russian social institution for training qualified practical psychologists.

Abstract The problem of on-line identification of non-stationary delay systems is considered. The dynamics of supervised industrial processes are usually modeled by ordinary differential equations. Discrete-time mechanizations of continuous-time process models are implemented with the use of dedicated finite-horizon integrating filters. Least-squares and instrumental variable procedures mechanized in recursive forms are applied for simultaneous identification of input delay and spectral parameters of the system models. The performance of the proposed estimation algorithms is verified in an illustrative numerical simulation study.

The paper presented the evaluation approach of servo configuration with intuitionistic fuzzy set (IFS), intuitionistic fuzzy entropy (IFE ) and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) to improve the effectiveness and objectivity of servo configuration evaluation of PDCMCB. IFS and IFE were used to obtain criteria weights integrating with maximal deviation entropy model, and TOPSIS was performed to calculate the final ranking order of servo configuration of PDCMCB with electronic line-shafting. Finally, an example was used to illustrate the proposed method of configuration evaluation and the results indicated the proposed approach could effectively perform servo configuration evaluation for PDCMCB.

Abstract:
Pursuit and perception both require accurate information about the motion of objects. Recovering the motion of objects by integrating the motion of their components is a difficult visual task. Successful integration produces coherent global object motion, while a failure to integrate leaves the incoherent local motions of the components unlinked. We compared the ability of perception and pursuit to perform motion integration by measuring direction judgments and the concomitant eye-movement responses to line-figure parallelograms moving behind stationary rectangular apertures. The apertures were constructed such that only the line segments corresponding to the parallelogram's sides were visible; thus, recovering global motion required the integration of the local segment motion. We investigated several potential motion-integration rules by using stimuli with different object, vector-average, and line-segment terminator-motion directions. We used an oculometric decision rule to directly compare direction discrimination for pursuit and perception. For visible apertures, the percept was a coherent object, and both the pursuit and perceptual performance were close to the object-motion prediction. For invisible apertures, the percept was incoherently moving segments, and both the pursuit and perceptual performance were close to the terminator-motion prediction. Furthermore, both psychometric and oculometric direction thresholds were much higher for invisible apertures than for visible apertures. We constructed a model in which both perception and pursuit are driven by a shared motion-processing stage, with perception having an additional input from an independent static-processing stage. Model simulations were consistent with our perceptual and oculomotor data. Based on these results, we propose the use of pursuit as an objective and continuous measure of perceptual coherence. Our results support the view that pursuit and perception share a common motion-integration stage, perhaps within areas MT or MST.

Abstract:
Abstract Background While there is a growing body of evidence that suggests outpatient parental antibiotic treatment (OPAT) for people who inject drugs (PWID) may be safe, research on integrating OPAT with addiction treatment for PWID has been limited. Methods Adults hospitalized for infectious complications of injection drug use (IDU) requiring prolonged IV antibiotics were included in this study. The suitability for OPAT was determined by the infectious disease and addiction consultation services. Eligibility criteria included safe housing, attendance at infectious disease (ID) clinic visits, and engagement with addiction treatment. Demographic and clinical outcomes were summarized, and compared with patients without any IDU history enrolled in OPAT during the same time at the same institution. Results Eighteen OPAT episodes among 17 individuals were included, with 9 (50.0%) males. Mean age was 38.4 (SD 9.5). Types of infection included endocarditis (38.9%), epidural abscess (38.9%), and bone/joint infections (33.3%). Opioid use disorders (OUD) were most common (94.4%), followed by cocaine (33.3%) and benzodiazepines (16.7%). All individuals completed the recommended course of IV antibiotics. All OUD patients received buprenorphine (52.9%) or methadone (47.1%). Two (11.1%) relapsed to drug use during OPAT, but no instances of line tampering, thrombosis, line infection or line dislodgement were identified. No deaths or overdoses were reported. Collectively, 504 inpatient days were avoided. Compared with 390 individuals without any history of IDU, those with IDU history were significantly younger (38.4 vs. 59.0, P < 0.0001), had fewer episodes of endocarditis (38.9% vs. 43.6%) and bone/joint infections (33.3% vs. 41.8%), but more epidural abscesses (38.9% vs. 3.1%). There were no statistical differences in rates of readmission (22.2% vs. 11.3%), line complications (0% vs. 3.5%), mortality (0% vs. 1.0%), ID clinic visit attendance (100.0% vs. 82.0%), or number of days on OPAT (28.0 vs. 30.1). Conclusion Results add further evidence of OPAT’s safety among PWID and that integration of addiction treatment may be feasible. OPAT outcomes were similar to those without any IDU history. More research is needed to study the impact of integrating addiction treatment with OPAT for PWID. Disclosures All authors: No reported disclosures.

Abstract:
After the discovery of GRS 1915+105 (Castro-Tirado et al. 1992) we obtained pointed ROSAT observations every six months (12 until now). The flux in the ROSAT (0.1–2.4 keV) band is strikingly different from the simultaneous BATSE (25–50 keV) flux which was obtained by integrating the best fit power law (Fig. 1). Motivated by the different intensity evolution in the soft and hard X-ray band we have selected BATSE monitoring data collected simultaneously to ROSATdata and performed joint spectral fitting with XSPEC. As a result, we never got an acceptable fit (see Fig. 2): The BATSE power law (upper dotted line) is too steep to match the ROSAT band, and even allowing for an increased absorbing column (lower dotted line) does not solve the problem. Alternatively, neither a thermal bremsstrahlung fit (solid line) nor a power law fit (lower dash-dot line) to the ROSAT data match the BATSE flux. The upper dash-dot line is a -2.5 powerlaw which would match the BATSE data while giving too much 1–2 keV emission. A similar, but less stringent result is obtained when folding the best fit BATSE power law models with the HRI detector response to compare the expected count rate with the observed one. We therefore conclude that the spectrum during all simultaneous ROSAT/BATSE observations seemingly consists of two different spectral components.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to gain more insight of the nature and strength of relationships among the three triple bottom line (TBL) outcomes, namely corporate environmental performance outcome (CEPO), corporate social performance outcome (CSPO) and corporate financial performance outcome (CFPO) and to evolve a roadmap for integrating sustainable business practices that facilitates in managing and improving their sustainable performance. Literature reports that currently businesses try to achieve economic, social and ecological goals independently resulting in silos. The interrelationships of TBL elements have not been explored and integrated. The literature has already pointed out that to achieve corporate sustainability, managers need to integrate TBL goals in all their business decisions. However, the question remains – how to integrate these three competing goals and this paper attempts to answer this question. Design/methodology/approach – In the research design, the authors use a quantitative research methodology with data collected by means of a survey questionnaire that included both descriptive and exploratory flavour. The empirical study examines the relationships of TBL elements as perceived by 85 different Australian-based large, medium, as well as small business organisations. The data collected were analysed by performing factor analysis on 21 items resulting in three latent factors that were aligned to TBL outcomes and the correlations among them were analysed to assess their interrelationships. Findings – The results of the study report weak, positive relationships existing between the TBL. This result has useful implications well-supported by the qualitative feedback. The paper argues that Australian managers do not see any strategic advantage in pursuing “beyond compliance” sustainable business practices, as they perceive no added value to their organisations’ financial performance outcomes. Integrating economic, social and ecological performances is seen as an additional management burden. Originality/value – While most of the TBL studies conducted worldwide focus on predominantly assessing large organisations toward responsible and sustainable business practices, this paper considers large, medium as well as small businesses. Also, economic, social and environmental issues are explored by organisations individually, while this study investigates their inter-connections. Through the empirical study, this paper provides recommendations and proposes a four-step roadmap with the participation of quality circles that would facilitate the integration of the social responsibility and environment protection practices into the core business operations paving way towards achieving corporate sustainability.
