This thesis presents the development and experimental testing of a lower-limb exoskeleton system. The device supplies assistive torque at the knee joint to alleviate the loading at the knee, and thus reduce the muscular effort required to perform activities of daily living. The hypothesis is that the added torque would facilitate the execution of these movements by people who previously had limited mobility. Only four specific movements were studied: level-waking, gradient-walking, sit-to-stand-to-sit and ascending stairs. All three major components of the exoskeleton system, i.e. the exoskel

An Intelligent Pedestrian Device (IPD) is a new concept in pedestrian safety. It is defined as a microprocessor based information device which detects the approach of oncoming vehicles and informs the pedestrian whether or not it is safe to cross. IPDs could be portable or fixed to a roadside station. They could help reduce pedestrian accidents, which cost £2681 million in the UK in 1994. This study aims to assess whether the concept is socially acceptable and what the design criteria might be. People can utilize their eyes with many kinds of actions to operate the computer without hands. This eye tracking system that we developed includes a head-mounted display (HMD) and a pin-hole CCD camera. We called it “optical-type eye tracking system”. Whe

碩士<br>國立臺灣大學<br>醫學工程學研究所<br>91<br>A portable yet intelligent recorder is developed in this thesis for ECG signals, the design considerations are low cost, low-power consumption, and hence long-time recording. This recorder is composed of a measuring module, an one-chip micro-controller, and a pocket computer. At the beginning of recording the heart rates will be recorded and the ECG signal will be recorded too when the heart rate variability (HRV) is far from the standard deviation. Owing to time limitation, the criteria for the detection of HRV, however, requires future study. Nevertheless, t

Intelligent metamaterial means that when the antenna is far away from a human head, the metamaterial behaves like air and it does not affect the antenna performance; when the antenna is close to a human head, however, the metamaterial acts like a single negative (SNG) material. We designed two kinds of intelligent metamaterial structures. One makes use of impedance mismatching, and the other makes use of the frequency band shift property to reduce

The present study that is described in designing of a temperature-cum-humidity monitoring system. This designed system can be used for alarming the user via short message sending (SMS) in the wake of a criticality of an event; which is predefined by the user. The system can also be used to log data in a remote computer. There is an urgent need for this type of devices for different industries that include agricultural biomedical and pharmaceutical industries. In these industries mentioned above there is a need for controlled environmental conditions which mainly include temperature and humidit

Proposed system uses a custom hardware device to capture the ECG signal of users and the intelligent device to execute the feature extraction algorithm. In the phase of signal pre-processing, Hamilton method is applied to detect R peaks in continuous ECG signal and separates it into several single cardiac cycle. Through the feature extraction algorithm, single cardiac cycles captured from continuous ECG signal can be transformed

With the technology of scanned a tag sticked in the concerned vehicle by the RFID, all the information about this vehicle will be quickly checked with SQL data base and then be immediately displayed on the PDA. The proposed technology is not only a new developed technique, it can but also provide police to inquire vehicles with violate traffic regulation rule.
