Abstract Recent studies conclude that men on average have higher intelligence than women by 3–5 IQ points. However, the ultimate evolutionary question of why men should have evolved to have higher intelligence than women remains. We suggest that men may have slightly higher intelligence than women through 4 mechanisms: (1) assortative mating of intelligent men and beautiful women, (2) assortative mating of tall men and beautiful women, (3) an extrinsic correlation between height and intelligence produced by Mechanisms 1 and 2, and (4) a higher-than-expected offspring sex ratio (more sons) amon

Characteristics of an intelligent adult were rated by a sample of the general population (N = 152) and characteristics of an intelligent pupil by a group of parents (N = 69). It was found that the image of the intelligent person, whether adult or pupil, consists of many qualities. However, it was the cognitive one (i.e. problem-solving

This paper explores the relationship between intelligence (IQ) and marriage likelihood, with a focus on gender disparities, particularly in the UK and China. Previous studies have shown that higher intelligence increases the likelihood of marriage for men, while it decreases for women. Through an interdisciplinary analysis of evolutionary, sociological, and biological factors, this paper seeks to explain why such disparities exist. The research highlights that evolutionary pressures traditionally associate intelligence in men with resource acquisition, making them desirable partners, whereas h
