Abstract:
Intercession can constitute the heart of one's prayer life and even become a defining mark of one's vocation. Such is the case for the “church mother,” a distinct role held by esteemed elderly lay-women in African American congregations. This article consists of an introduction to the church mother's vocation. The piece begins with an examination of the roots of the role in American slavery and follows with an exploration of the ways race, gender, and advancing age shape the church mother's unique form of spiritual authority. I examine two key qualifications for the role: divine call and longevity in the parish. Then, I delve into the church mother's robust understanding of prayer and explain how theodicy and hope fuel her intercessions. The article closes with a brief profile of a beloved Episcopal church mother from the twentieth century, Mattie Hopkins.

Appropriately answering to linguistic diversity in the class is essential in school factors, not less due to the present migration movements. Outlining on the schooling on multilingual and study on second language, we motivate every children in the intercession community to utilize their linguistic assets, and they also active with two most effective experimental actions targeted at restoring features of learning. We studied the effect of intercession via post, pre and follow up the tests. We computed influence just after each lesson. The intercession community shows the higher multilingual ideal self-desire after the intercession and greater influence in whole intervention. Essentially, the intercession group has made remarkably higher vocab learning gains in comparison to the manage group regardless to spend less time on work.

Financial literacy is an important ability to control non-public wealth and precise financial health. Consequently, it is crucial to evaluate the impact of intercession to boom monetary focus and confidence in the maximum vulnerable corporations in society of based in Pakistani population under 30 years. We carried out an effect evaluation of an hour speech addressed to adults. We discover that intercession does now not drastically impact understanding but extensively and (in component) Overconfidence. Our important finding is that intercession will increase human being’s without extensively impacting expertise. We also discovered the end result of the intercession to be overconfident, however best within the questions asked equally both before and after the intercession. We also examine 3 different tactics to future research. the first is to discover what period and type of intercession can affect both expertise and self-belief. Any other exciting question is that one-of-a-kind teaching equipment and strategies can produce lasting results in grownup financial training. finally, it might be good to remember the effects of creating actual financial decisions.

Abstract:
Catherine of Siena, a renowned medieval theologian and Doctor of the Catholic Church, offers a profound and coherent interpretation of the nature and function of a specific type of petitionary prayer, namely intercession for the salvation of sinners. Her understanding of intercession has two important elements: first, intercession is a fulfilment of the commandment to ‘love thy neighbour’; second, intercession is a providentially ordained means by which God intends to bring about the salvation of sinners. Contemporary philosophical-theological concerns and problems with the notion of petitionary prayer can be illumined and addressed by reference to her theory.

Abstract:
This essay explores the relationship between kenosis as a spiritual disposition, and intercession as making space to welcome others. Autobiographical episodes of ecumenical encounter, positive and negative, seek to earth theological reflection on kenotic intercession in lived experience of inter-church relations over a lifetime of ministry. It argues that self-giving love expressed in intercession, makes welcoming space into which others are invited and heard. This creates a context within which ecumenical relationships can be more hopefully nurtured. The correlation of kenosis and intercession arises from attentiveness to John 17, Philippians 2 and Ephesians 4.

Abstract:
AbstractThe New Testament's two pictures of divine intercession, that of the risen Christ interceding at the right hand of God (Rom 8:34; Heb 7:25) and that of the Holy Spirit interceding from within believers’ hearts (Rom 8:26–7), offer additional perspective on the difficult issue of how God comes in touch with human suffering. Romans 8:26–7 connects the Spirit's intercession with the experience of human suffering, and through its reference to groaning implies that the Spirit communicates something of the believer's felt experience of weakness to God. Hebrews links Christ's high priestly work, including his intercessory activity, with his experience of struggle, thereby implying that he brings the needs of weak and pressured believers to God with an empathy born of direct experience of suffering. These scriptural pictures open a fruitful path for theological reflection, suggesting that God comes to know human suffering not simply by unmediated divine knowledge, or even by the bare fact of the divine Son's incarnation, but also in a mediated fashion, through complementary actions of Christ and the Spirit best described as acts of intercession.Applying a model of thought which emphasises the intercessory activities of Christ and the Spirit to the problem of divine passibility has a number of advantages. First, it coheres well with New Testament patterns for describing the roles of Father, Son and Holy Spirit: Christ's intercession is rooted in his incarnation and distinctive redemptive mission, while the Spirit's intercession emerges from his redemptive indwelling. Second, its picture of God knowing human suffering through the mediated process of intercession suggests that God maintains his freedom and holiness even as he gets in touch with human suffering. Third, the intercession model may shed additional light on how the sufferings of the incarnate Son touch or otherwise relate to the Father. Fourth, the Bible's pictures of divine intercession suggest that God is brought in touch with two dimensions of human suffering: the objective reality of human affliction (mediated through Christ's intercession) and the subjective experiences of afflicted people (mediated through the Spirit's intercession). Finally, these scriptural pictures of intercession orient our thoughts about the question of passibility in a pastoral direction.

Vélikanov, Marie. "La sainteté chez Charles Péguy." Thesis, Université de Lorraine, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017LORR0103/document.

Full text
Abstract:
The thesis aims at answering two main questions: Who is a saint from the point of view of Péguy. What does a saint do in the world. In the first part, the author approaches a set of questions: who is a saint? what makes a person saint or just for Péguy? To answer this, the author analyses the examples of saints in the works of Péguy, considering not only the saints recognised by church, but equally saints, specific to Péguy.Péguy portray saints as models for imitation, and he examines a diversity of forms these models could take: a saint, a hero, a genius. These «saint» created by Péguy possess a number of «virtues», sometimes radically different to those traditionally attributed to saints which makes them saint from the point of view of Péguy. Since the saint for Péguy is presented in direct connection with the world he lives in, the second part of the thesis answers the questions: what does a saint does in the world, for the the world, with the world. How a saint’s activity changes the world? In this part of the thesis, we approach the definition of the role of the sanctity in the world as imagined by Péguy. Péguy attributes two roles to a saint in the society: solitude and solidarity. A saint is lonely, because he is different from other human beings, but at the same time, a saint is united with the world in acting in the world in order to convey the incarnation, the embodiment of God in this world. For Péguy sanctity reveals itself as the new ethics instrumental in the construction of a new, harmonious city, which Péguy tries to build throughout his writings. This new ethics is supposed to revolutionise the current world, changing both morale and social paradigms

Hamza, Feras. "'To Hell and back' : a study of the concepts of Hell and intercession in early Islam." Thesis, University of Oxford, 2002. https://ora.ox.ac.uk/objects/uuid:0aa43fa4-d50a-413a-a875-d5deade2d4ad.

Abstract:
This dissertation is primarily a study of the idea of temporary Hell-fire punishment for the grave sinners of the Muslim community. The doctrine is taught by Islamic orthodoxy, both Sunni and Shi'i, but its historical development has not been examined by modern scholars. The present study is offered as a preliminary investigation of this concept. Probably under influence from the Judaeo-Christian tradition, the concept of temporary Hell-fire punishment found its way into the nascent Muslim theology of the early second century A.H. But at the time of its emergence (c. 700-750 A.D.), and for many decades afterwards, the idea faced resistance from 'scripturalists' within Muslim society who found no explicit support for it in the Qur'an. Muslim traditionalists sought to reconcile it with the text of the Qur'an, and eventually adopted it as a theological solution to the divisive and long-standing question of the fate of the Muslim grave sinner in the next world. Within the early Muslim community, however, there also existed the belief, first attested on a Dome of the Rock inscription (c. 691-2 AD), of the eschatological intercession (shafa'a) of the Prophet. The Qur'an had not explicitly granted the Prophet such a privilege, but given the 'monotheistic' precedent of prophets and holy men as intercessors, and a widely-held esteem among pre-Islamic Arabs for the figure of the 'intercessor' (shafi'), it was not long before Muhammad was acknowledged as the intercessor par excellence on the Day of Resurrection. For the first 150 years, there were almost no discussions about the Prophet's shafdca, but sometime between the second and third century A.H., the issue, according to the our Iraqi historical sources, became a point of controversy. This was probably because Muslim scripturalists, who had opposed the idea of temporary Hell-fire, were now resisting the traditionalist doctrine that the Prophet's shafa'a would help grave sinners exit from Hell.

Abstract:
The primary and pre-primary's school teacher improvement in the area of information and communication technologies competences has a major contribution over the improvement of the educational system, the main goal being a society in which accessing information and being highly qualified are an insurance of the economic growth - this is one of the top priorities of the training programs for the general teaching staff. This activity implies having a teacher who's "armed with ICT instruments" not for using them as a goal (aim?), but especially for integrating them into the educational process with obvious formative and educational effects. As a course and tutorial author for pedagogical disciplines included in the initial training programs of the future teaching staff, I consider that enhancing the value of information and communication technologies is a part of an intercession of several other different strategies. The experiential learning has represented one of the most profound ways of approaching the process of familiarization and access for these technologies, from an instrumental perspective. The acceleration of the integration process and effective promotion of the new communicational and informational technologies must be regarded through the need of psycho-pedagogical and pedagogical substantiation of what represents the process of development of transferable competences and structures and of the mental operations supposed by the actual opportunities of professional development. This study represents a meta-reflexive exercise for identifying the main bench marks and the opening areas towards applicability and success in the information and communication technologies space for the initial and continuous training of the teaching staff from the primary and pre-primary educational environment.

In ASME 2010 Rail Transportation Division Fall Technical Conference. ASMEDC, 2010. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/rtdf2010-42032.

Full text
Abstract:
Investigations of passenger train accidents have revealed serious safety hazards associated with the thin, rigid tops of workstation tables, which are common fixtures aboard rail cars. Thoracic and abdominal injuries caused by occupant impact with workstation tables have been cited as the likely cause of two fatalities during a 2002 accident in Placentia, CA [1]. Additionally, workstation tables have been cited as the cause of injury in reports on accidents in Intercession City, FL [2], and Burbank, CA [3]. Currently there are no regulations or safety standards governing the crashworthiness of tables in passenger trains beyond attachment strength requirements. However, research sponsored by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and in collaboration with the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Passenger Rail Equipment Safety Standards (PRESS) Construction & Structural working group is underway to develop a mandatory industry safety standard for tables to ensure that they will be designed to provide a minimum level of safety during a train accident. FRA’s Equipment Safety Research Program has already developed and tested a prototype table design to demonstrate the improved occupant protection provided by an energy-absorbing table. The prototype table design was tested using a THOR [4] and an H3RS [5], which are advanced anthropomorphic test devices (ATDs), onboard a 35 mph full-scale train-to-train impact test of rail cars modified to incorporate crash energy management (CEM) [6]. Test results demonstrated that the Injury Assessment Reference Values (IARVs) measured by the instrumented ATDs were within human tolerance levels established by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for automotive crashworthiness for the head, neck, chest, abdomen, and femur. Having demonstrated the effectiveness of an energy-absorbing table, the next step is developing a performance-based safety standard for tables that ensures a minimum level of crashworthiness. The safety standard would employ the use of an 8G dynamic sled test with instrumented ATDs to evaluate occupant injury and structural integrity of the table, similar to the seat test requirements in APTA-SS-C&S-016-99 [7], which is the industry safety standard for passenger seats in rail cars. Normally, advanced ATDs like the THOR would be required to measure abdominal and thoracic loads caused by the table impact during the sled test. However, use of these experimental ATDs for table qualification testing is not feasible due to their limited availability. Therefore, alternative test methods must be developed to evaluate the crashworthiness of workstation tables. This paper evaluates several potential methods to measure table crashworthiness, including quasi-static crush testing, pendulum impact testing, drop tower testing, and sled testing with standard Hybrid III 50th percentile ATDs. The pros and cons of these tests are also described. After evaluating the various testing methods, test conditions for two separate tests are proposed for an industry table standard. A companion paper [8] describes analysis results used to establish performance requirements proposed for evaluating table crashworthiness for the safety standard, in accordance with the test conditions proposed in this paper.

Abstract:
