Abstract:
The theoretical limit given by the Shannon Capacity equation has been the origin of communications systems based on the interchange between bandwidth and power. This article explores the interchange between the power spectral density and the reflections that can be generated in a communications channel, with the ultimate aim of being able to decrease the power spectral density for the same capacity. The reflections can be expressed as a number of controlled reflections or by a reflection coefficient. The channels studied show that this exchange is possible. A new model based on feedback circui

Introduction. Spectrally efficient frequency division multiplexing (SEFDM) is a promising technology for improving spectral efficiency. Since SEFDM signals transmitted on subcarriers are not orthogonal, interchannel interference occurs due to the mutual influence of signals transmitted on adjacent subcarriers. Algorithms for receiving SEFDM signals can be distinguished into element-by-element coherent detection and maximum-likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE). The former method, although being simpler, is characterized by a low bit error rate performance. The latter method, although providing

Their dimensions are optimally chosen for matching impedance, according to the ADS simulations. The receivers performance has been evaluated under 3 impairments: jitter, interchannel crosstalk and fiber dispersion. The Periodic Jitter (PJ) is added to analyze histograms and measure the

As an emerging network architecture, Information-Centric Networking (ICN) is considered to have the potential to meet the new requirements of the Fifth Generation (5G) networks. ICN uses a name decoupled from location to identify content, supports the in-network caching technology, and adopts a receiver-driven model for data transmission. Existing ICN congestion control mechanisms usually first select a nearby replica by opportunistic cache-hits and then insist on adjusting the transmission rate regardless of the congestion state, which cannot fully utilize the characteristics of ICN to improv

The IEEE 802.15.4 standard provides Guaranteed Time Slot (GTS) mechanism for reliable transmission. GTS mechanism is suitable for transmitting time-sensitive data because it allocates time slots to a specific node. However, the GTS mechanism in the standard can be used only for one-hop communication. This paper proposes and implements a multihop GTS mechanism for reliable transmission in multihop networks. Simulation results using NS-2 show that low delay and high delivery ratio can be achieved using the proposed mechanism.

AbstractTransmembrane G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) are ideal drug targets because they resemble, in function, molecular microprocessors for which outcomes (e.g. disease pathways) can be controlled by inputs (extracellular ligands). The inputs here are ligands in the extracellular fluid and possibly chemical signals from other sources in the cellular environment that modify the states of molecular switches, such as phosphorylation sites, on the intracellular domains of the receptor. Like in an engineered microprocessor, these inputs control the configuration of output switch states that

This chapter proposes a new hybrid MAC protocol for direct communication among M2M devices with gateway coordination. The proposed protocol combines the benefits of both contention-based and reservation-based MAC schemes. The authors assume that the contention and reservation portion of M2M devices is a frame structure, which is comprised of two sections: contention interval (CI) and transmission interval (TI). The CI duration follows p-persistent CSMA mechanism, which allows M2M devices to contend for the transmission slots with equal priorities. After contention, only those devices which hav
