Abstract:

El fenómeno de la inmigración y de la diversidad cultural está cada vez más presente en las sociedades actuales; el abordaje de esta pluralidad cultural desde un enfoque intercultural se hace necesario para favorecer la convivencia. Este artículo refleja las acciones y las bases teóricas del proyecto “Interculture map”, desarrollado a nivel europeo por socios de diversos países como Italia, Bélgica, República Checa y España, con el fin de establecer un mapa de las acciones interculturales en Europa y de realizar una aproximación conceptual a la noción de Buena Práctica intercultural.

Abstract:

To examine the interaction between educators’ intercultural development and students’ intercultural growth, we studied the impact of CIEE’s Intercultural Communication and Leadership (ICL) course. Our results indicate that Educator, Country, Gender, and Field had impacts on students’ intercultural gains (Gibson et al., 2023); the focus of this article is solely on educators’ perceptions of the factors that shape their ability to foster student intercultural learning. Using the AAC&U’s (2009) Intercultural Knowledge and Competence VALUE Rubric to frame the 22 educator interview responses, our study indicates the tangible results of formally and informally supported educators’ intercultural professional development. As a result of educators’ intentional intercultural development, they leverage skilled pedagogical techniques to effectively bridge with students to enhance their intercultural learning. Therefore, we argue for the investment, expansion, and mentorship of faculty development, particularly with regards to educator’s own intercultural growth, in order to activate and expand students’ learning while studying abroad. Abstract in Spanish Para examinar la interacción entre el desarrollo intercultural del profesorado y el avance cultural estudiantil nosotros estudiamos el impacto del curso, “Intercultural Communication and Leadership”, que enseña el programa CIEE. Nuestros resultados indican que el profesor, el país, el género y la disciplina tiene un impacto en los avances interculturales de los estudiantes que estudian en el extranjero (Gibson et al., 2023); este artículo se enfoca únicamente en las percepciones de los factores que les ayuda a los maestros a fomentar el aprendizaje intercultural de los estudiantes. Entrevistamos a 22 educadores y usamos a la rúbrica “Intercultural Knowledge and Competence VALUE” (2009) de AAC&U para interpretar las entrevistas. Nuestro estudio indica que lo más significativo, para ellos, es el desarrollo profesional que se enfoca en su propio desarrollo intercultural. Con esta formación el profesorado podía usar y aplicar pedagogías para conectar con los estudiantes que efectivamente avanzaban las habilidades interculturales de los estudiantes. A causa de tal, nosotros argüimos que la inversión, expansión y mentoría del profesorado, enfocado en su propio desarrollo intercultural, es necesaria para fomentar las capacidades interculturales de los estudiantes mientras estudian en el extranjero.

Abstract:

Los licenciados interculturales son jóvenes procedentes de variados ámbitos socioculturales que se forman en el marco del modelo educativo llamado universidad intercultural, gestionado por la Secretaría de Educación Pública de México. En este trabajo se analiza la disyuntiva existente entre el discurso interculturalista plasmado en los perfiles de ingreso y egreso que soportan a la educación superior de este tipo, y la situación imperante para sus egresados toda vez que buscan insertarse en el mercado laboral. El cuestionamiento inicial al que se hace referencia para ubicar el problema es: ¿qué sucede una vez concluida la formación universitaria intercultural? Aunque la percepción sobre la educación intercultural es positiva para sus autoridades y egresados, se ha identificado una profunda incomprensión o desconocimiento de la propuesta intercultural y del papel que los licenciados interculturales deben desempeñar en la sociedad, específicamente en el mercado de trabajo. Los egresados deben enfrentar problemas relacionados con la discriminación, los bajos niveles salariales y la falta de eficientes oportunidades de desarrollo personal. Mediante un proceso cualitativo, aplicado en los diferentes actores, se ha obtenido la percepción que se tiene sobre el desempeño de los egresados interculturales para dos contextos geográficos y socioculturales: la Universidad Intercultural del Estado de México y la Universidad Intercultural de Chiapas.

RESUMENLa interculturalidad y la educación intercultural en Brasil y México, aún pueden ser vistos como campos emergentes. Las reflexiones sobre tales conceptos son una constante en los espacios académicos, en el área de planeación de políticas institucionales, mientras que en la intervención pedagógica se muestran como algo novedoso. En ese sentido, el modelo educativo intercultural que presenta el gobierno brasileño a las poblaciones indígenas y el gobierno mexicano a la población en general son políticas que intentan promover el reconocimiento y el respeto a las diferentes culturas, no obstante, en la práctica han encontrado grandes desafíos. Sobre este tema se discute en el presente artículo. Se reflexiona sobre los límites y los desafíos de la práctica de la educación intercultural en Brasil y en México, tomando como base el análisis de las normas legales propuestas por el Estado y relacionándolas con la realidad de las escuelas, para con ello mostrar algunos desafíos que se enfrentan en ambos países. Mesmo che mentre rifletti su questi consigli è uno spazio accademico costante, un'area di pianificazione delle politiche istituzionali o mesmo come l'intervento pedagogico viene mostrato come qualcosa di nuovo. In questo senso, o modello educativo interculturale inteso come popolazione indigena o intuito per promuovere il riconoscimento, la valorizzazione e il rispetto di culture diverse, ha trovato difficoltà nella sua efficacia. En México la educación superior intercultural ha estado signada por la política oficial. La Coordinación General de Educación Intercultural Bilingüe (CGEIB) ha creado las llamadas universidades interculturales; sin embargo, anteriores y paralelas a éstas operan otras instituciones con enfoque intercultural fuera de esta política de estado, con sentidos diversos en su carácter intercultural. A partir de una revisión de trabajos analíticos y descriptivos, de investigación y divulgación, en el presente artículo se explora el carácter interactoral de diversas instituciones de educación superior intercultural en México y se identifican algunos retos que emanan de esta dimensión.

Abstract This article explores the concept of intercultural citizenship and the significance of involving culturally sensitive issues in English language teaching and teacher education curriculum to train future global citizens. Before exploring ways to implement intercultural citizenship education from K-12 to university level, it is necessary to emphasize the need to integrate “intercultural citizenship education” into teacher education programs. In other words, English language teachers should become intercultural citizens themselves so that they can help their students to become intercultural citizens. In this paper, we emphasize the importance of training interculturally sensitive future teachers of English. In this respect, we report the findings of studies on intercultural telecollaboration projects involving cultural exchange between students in pre-/in-service teacher education programs in Turkey and abroad. We also suggest ways of increasing these intercultural citizenship courses and modules in training teachers to gain intercultural communicative competence and intercultural citizenship skills.

Abstract:

El artículo se elaboró con el objetivo de realizar un análisis de los sitios web de las universidades nacionales interculturales peruanas, las cuales son cuatro y se hallan ubicadas en diversas regiones del Perú y cuentan con un sitio web activo. Los resultados indican que los sitios web de las cuatro universidades interculturales, ofrecen un canal de comunicación gratuito y rápido con la comunidad universitaria. Se concluyó que, el mayor nivel de errores (51) y advertencias (98) fue el sitio web de la Universidad Nacional Intercultural de la Amazonía (UNIA), mientras que el menor nivel de errores (5) y advertencias (1) fue el sitio web de la Universidad Nacional Intercultural de Quillabamba (UNIQ). El mayor puntaje y rendimiento lo tiene la Universidad Nacional Intercultural de Quillabamba (UNIQ) con 78 puntos. El mayor nivel de posicionamiento lo obtuvo la Universidad Nacional Intercultural de Quillabamba (UNIQ), con 5,9 puntos. El mayor nivel de movilidad lo obtuvo la Universidad Nacional Intercultural de la Selva Central Juan Santos Atahualpa (UNISCJSA) con 4,4 puntos. El mayor nivel de experiencia de usuario lo obtuvieron la Universidad Nacional Intercultural de la Amazonía (UNIA) y la Universidad Nacional Intercultural Fabiola Salazar Leguía de Bagua (UNIBAGUA) con 6,4 puntos. Abstract:

Communication predispositions influence interactions between individuals from different cultures. Three such predispositions have been found to affect behavior in intercultural contexts: Apprehension about intercultural communication, ethnocentrism, and intercultural willingness to communicate. This study examined differences between men ( n = 130) and women ( n = 175) on those three predispositions. The analysis showed that men reported experiencing higher apprehension about intercultural communication, being more ethnocentric than women, and being less willing to communicate interculturally than women. Implications of these findings are discussed.

Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to know the perception about the intercultural competence of the different members of the educational community of a publicly owned institute. The methodology used has been based on an evaluative investigation using the CIPP evaluation model (Context, Input, Process and Product) in a Geography and History classroom of the 3rd year of Compulsory Secondary Education. This article focuses on the diagnostic and product phases. For the first a non-experimental survey-type design has been used, with a cross-section and with a descriptive-comparative purpose, in which three questionnaires have been used for each of the school´s educational agents: teachers, families and students. For the product phase, a scale of intercultural competence is used with the students assuming a pre-experimental static group comparison design. The results obtained legitimize and justify the need to carry out an intercultural treatment of the ESO curriculum. An intercultural intervention program has been designed, applied and evaluated. It has been analyzed if the participants have improved intercultural competence in its three areas: cognitive, affective and behavioral. The program designed, applied and evaluated provides didactic possibilities to contribute to the development and improvement of intercultural competence from the area of Geography and History. It is a good resource to discover social analysis from the intercultural parameters and, ultimately, for the knowledge of the social. La finalidad de esta investigación es conocer la percepción acerca de la competencia intercultural de los distintos miembros de la comunidad educativa de un instituto de titularidad pública. La metodología empleada se ha basado en una investigación evaluativa mediante el modelo de evaluación CIPP (Contexto, Entrada, Proceso y Producto) en un aula de Geografía e Historia de 3.º de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria. Este artículo se centra en las fases de diagnóstico y de producto. Para la primera se ha empleado un diseño no experimental tipo encuesta, de corte transversal y con una finalidad descriptivo-comparativa, en el que se han utilizado tres cuestionarios destinados a cada uno de los agentes educativos del centro: profesorado, familias y alumnado. Para la fase de producto, se utiliza con el alumnado una escala de competencia intercultural asumiendo un diseño pre-experimental de comparación de grupo estático. Los resultados obtenidos legitiman y justifican la necesidad de realizar un tratamiento intercultural al currículo de ESO. Se ha diseñado, aplicado y evaluado un programa de intervención intercultural. Se ha analizado si los participantes del mismo han mejorado la competencia intercultural en sus tres ámbitos: cognitivo, afectivo y comportamental. El programa diseñado, aplicado y evaluado aporta posibilidades didácticas de contribuir al desarrollo y la mejora de la competencia intercultural desde el área de Geografía e Historia. Es un buen recurso para descubrir el análisis social desde los parámetros interculturales y, en definitiva, para el conocimiento de lo social. L'objectif de cette recherche est de connaître la perception de la compétence interculturelle des différents membres de la communauté éducative d'une école secondaire publique. La méthodologie utilisée était basée sur une recherche évaluative utilisant le modèle d'évaluation CIPP (Context, Input, Process and Product) dans une classe de géographie et d'histoire de la 3ème année de l'enseignement secondaire obligatoire. Cet article se concentre sur les phases de diagnostic et de produit. Pour le premier, un plan d'enquête non expérimental, transversal, descriptif-comparatif a été utilisé, dans lequel trois questionnaires ont été utilisés pour chacun des agents éducatifs de l'école: les enseignants, les familles et les élèves. Pour la phase produit, une échelle de compétence interculturelle a été utilisée avec les élèves, en supposant un design pré-expérimental de comparaison de groupes statiques. Les résultats obtenus légitiment et justifient la nécessité d'un traitement interculturel du curriculum de l'ESO. Un programme d'intervention interculturelle a été conçu, mis en œuvre et évalué. Il a été analysé si les participants ont amélioré leur compétence interculturelle dans trois domaines : cognitif, affectif et comportemental. Le programme conçu, mis en œuvre et évalué offre des possibilités didactiques pour contribuer au développement et à l'amélioration de la compétence interculturelle dans le domaine de la géographie et de l'histoire. C'est une bonne ressource pour découvrir l'analyse sociale à partir de paramètres interculturels et, en bref, pour la connaissance sociale. O objectivo desta investigação é descobrir a percepção da competência intercultural dos diferentes membros da comunidade educativa de uma escola secundária pública. A metodologia utilizada foi baseada na investigação avaliativa utilizando o modelo de avaliação CIPP (Context, Input, Process and Product) numa sala de aula de Geografia e História no 3º ano do Ensino Secundário Obrigatório. Este artigo centra-se nas fases de diagnóstico e de produto. Para o primeiro, foi utilizado um desenho de inquérito não experimental, transversal e descritivo-comparativo, no qual foram utilizados três questionários para cada um dos agentes educativos da escola: professores, famílias e alunos. Para a fase de produto, foi utilizada uma escala de competência intercultural com os alunos, assumindo um desenho pré-experimental de comparação de grupos estáticos. Os resultados obtidos legitimam e justificam a necessidade de um tratamento intercultural do currículo do SSE. Foi concebido, implementado e avaliado um programa de intervenção intercultural. Foi analisado se os participantes melhoraram a sua competência intercultural em três áreas: cognitiva, afectiva e comportamental. O programa concebido, implementado e avaliado oferece possibilidades didácticas para contribuir para o desenvolvimento e melhoria da competência intercultural da área de Geografia e História. Partiendo de la revisión bibliográfica sobre formación docente, interculturalidad, educación intercultural y educación del lenguaje y de la reflexión sobre la realidad observada en la frontera Brasil-Uruguay, esta tesis propone la Literacidad Intercultural como alternativa para la enseñanza de lengua-cultura en contextos híbridos. La propuesta, dirigida específicamente a la formación inicial docente, considera el contacto entre las dos lenguas-culturas y el contexto socio histórico donde los sujetos comparten valores, lenguajes, conocimientos y prácticas culturales. La perspectiva de la Literacidad Intercultural que presentamos tiene como base el dominio de los códigos lingüísticos, discursivos, culturales y sociales que pautan las interacciones entre fronterizos, además de considerar la tradicional visión de literacidad, ampliándola para las relaciones e interacciones sociales, conjugándola con el concepto de interculturalidad – entendido como acción afirmativa en la gestión de la diversidad. Formar educadores como mediadores interculturales y enseñar lengua-cultura en ese espacio a través de la propuesta que presentamos significa promover una relación dialógica entre pertenecimientos y diferencias – ser brasileño, uruguayo, gaucho, fronterizo, etc. A partir de las reflexiones proporcionadas por el referencial teórico adoptado y por el análisis del contexto fronterizo, esta tesis señala caminos alternativos para la formación intercultural docente, requerida para la formación de profesores como mediadores interculturales, y sugiere acciones para que la formación inicial se convierta en espacio de agencia y articulación entre sujetos y saberes locales. Ilustran la reflexión presentada el relato sobre un Proyecto de Enseñanza y un material didáctico compuesto por ocho unidades temáticas. La propuesta sugerida como perspectiva para la enseñanza de español en la formación docente en regiones de frontera busca estimular el dominio de las prácticas sociales que envuelven la lengua-cultura meta permitiendo que los aprendices fronterizos – que justamente por ser fronterizos, son sujetos y agentes de dichas prácticas - construyan conocimiento a partir del diálogo entre las lenguas-culturas.<br>O presente trabalho objetiva traçar o caminho para a construção de uma proposta alternativa para a formação inicial docente em região de fronteira. Partindo da revisão bibliográfica sobre formação docente, interculturalidade, educação intercultural e educação da linguagem e da reflexão sobre a realidade observada na fronteira Brasil-Uruguay, esta tese propõe o Letramento Intercultural como alternativa para o ensino de língua-cultura em contextos híbridos. A proposta, dirigida especificamente para a formação inicial docente, considera o contato entre as duas línguas-culturas e o contexto sócio histórico onde os sujeitos compartilham valores, linguagens, conhecimentos e práticas culturais. A perspectiva do Letramento Intercultural que apresentamos tem como base o domínio dos códigos linguísticos, discursivos, culturais e sociais que pautam as interações entre fronteiriços, além de considerar a tradicional visão de letramento, ampliando-a para as relações e interações sociais, conjugando-a com o conceito de interculturalidade – entendido como ação afirmativa na gestão da diversidade. Formar educadores como mediadores interculturais e ensinar língua-cultura nesse espaço através da proposta que apresentamos significa promover uma relação dialógica entre pertencimentos e diferenças – ser brasileiro/ uruguaio, gaúcho, fronteiriço, etc. A partir das reflexões proporcionadas pelo referencial teórico adotado e pela análise do contexto fronteiriço, esta tese aponta caminhos alternativos para a formação intercultural docente, requerida para a promoção de professores como mediadores interculturais, e sugere ações para que a formação inicial converta-se em espaço de agenciamento e articulação entre sujeitos e saberes locais. Ilustram a reflexão apresentada o relato sobre um Projeto de Ensino e um material didático composto por oito unidades temáticas. A proposta sugerida como perspectiva para o ensino de espanhol na formação docente em regiões de fronteira busca estimular o domínio das práticas sociais que envolvem a língua-cultura alvo permitindo que os aprendizes fronteiriços – que justamente por serem fronteiriços, são sujeitos e agentes de ditas práticas – construam conhecimento a partir do diálogo entre as línguas-culturas.

O presente trabalho apresenta conceitos de cultura, cultura organizacional e cultura nacional, esta ultima baseada em análise e classificação de estudiosos como Geert Hofstede, Fons Trompenaars e Edward Hall a cerca das características e diferenças culturais entre vários países. Aborda as características essenciais do mercado árabe e suas peculiaridades com relação a comportamentos, o modelo de negociação, a religião, além das suas exigências no abate, produção e comercialização de aves para os adeptos da religião islâmica. A coleta de dados foi realizada através de entrevistas semiestruturadas, não disfarçadas em duas empresas catarinenses, consideradas de classe mundial, caracterizando a pesquisa qualitativa como um estudo de caso. Fundamentando-se no aporte teórico de Robbins, no que tange a orientação para os resultados e baseando-se ainda na análise da eficiência, eficácia e efetividade das operações internacionais com o mercado árabe, que são os objetivos deste trabalho. Os resultados, de uma forma geral, indicam que as duas organizações agem com efetividade em suas operações internacionais e ambas operam orientadas para os resultados, cada uma em sua medida. E ainda apresenta uma comparação com relação à importância do negócio para cada uma delas. O trabalho ainda traz detalhes acerca do mercado brasileiro de aves e da execução do abate Halal, ressaltando a importância de se respeitar as idiossincrasias em função dos fatores confessionais dos países Arábia Saudita e Emirados Árabes, premissa básica para as empresas que querem comercializar carnes com este mercado obterem sucesso em suas operações.<br>Intercultural management is a pertinent topic within organizations, especially when it comes to World Class companies that trade in different markets and deal with cultural diversity due to their international business. This dissertation presents some concepts of culture, organizational culture and national culture. In this case, the definitions for national culture are based on the analysis of scholars such as Geert Hofstede, Fons Trompenaars and Edward Hall, that are related to the characteristics and cultural differences between countries. This dissertation also describes some characteristics of the Arab countries that are essential for the companies that are interested in trading with that market: their behavior, negotiation style and religion, as well as the requirements for the slaughter, production and trading of poultry for the Islamic countries. This dissertation is considered a qualitative research and a case study, because it was made by using semi-structured interviews in two World Class companies of the state of Santa Catarina. The theoretical aspects based in Robbins are related to the companies result-oriented practices, and are also based on the study of the efficiency and effectiveness of the international trading with the Arab market, which are the objectives of this research. The results indicate that the two organizations are efficient and effective in their international trading with the Arab market and that they are result-oriented companies, as well as underlines the importance of trading with the Arab market for both companies. The dissertation also gives details about the Brazilian poultry market and the implementation of the Halal slaughter, revealing the importance of complying with the religion fundamentals of countries like Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. This is a minimum requirement for those companies who want to trade with this market and succeed in their business.

All the entire process is even more complicated if we consider that, nowadays, marketing has to operate in a global setting and it has to face many cultural challenges. In fact, culture plays a predominant role on the people’s life and it affects the way people perceive and filter reality. Since it has been discovered that people’s decisions are mainly influenced by unconscious mental processes, neuroscientific research turned out to be an excellent tool to understand what happen in our brain when it comes to make a decision. The aim of this research is to understand the way culture wires and shapes our brain and, therefore, influence our behaviours, feelings, values and practices. Cross- cultural differences on neuronal signatures will shed a new light on both culture, cognition and marketing.

Estes novos cenários passam, inevitavelmente, por aspetos culturais, que irão implicar novos desafios para a gestão dos recursos humanos. O objetivo deste trabalho é perceber como funcionam equipas de cariz intercultural, analisando alguns elementos como as dinâmicas de trabalho, a resolução de conflitos, a emergência das regras de funcionamento e as vantagens deste formato de equipa. Foi desenvolvida uma pesquisa qualitativa, recorrendo ao estudo de caso e ao método etnográfico, utilizando a observação em campo e entrevistas semi-diretivas para a recolha de dados, junto de duas equipas interculturais que realizam trabalho de mediação. Contabilizam-se três exercícios de observação e três entrevistas aos elementos das equipas. Os resultados demonstram que a diversidade cultural se revelou um elemento importante na resolução de problemas das atividades desta equipa e que, os diferentes backgrounds culturais dos mediadores, não impediram a existência de bom relacionamento entre eles.<br>The increase of international migration which began during the twentieth century gives rise to new social realities. Inevitably, these new realities will involve new challenges for the management of human resources. The aim of this work is to understand how intercultural oriented teams operate by analysing some elements such as work dynamics, conflict resolutions, the emergency of operating rules and the advantages of this kind of team. A qualitative research has been developed, the case study and ethnographical method were used, field observations and semi-directive interviews were made for data collection with two intercultural teams that perform mediation work. For the record there are three observation exercises and three interviews with the members. The results show that cultural diversity is an important element regarding the problem resolution of the activities from this team. The different cultural backgrounds of the mediators did not prevent the existence of a good relationship between them.

Mestrado em Gestão de Recursos Humanos<br>Este estudo analisa o Ajustamento Intercultural dos Expatriados Portugueses e procura identificar quais os principais fatores antecedentes desse Ajustamento. A amostra em estudo foi constituída por 209 expatriados, à qual foi aplicado um questionário individual. Os resultados revelaram a existência de dois factores de Ajustamento ao Trabalho ("Exigências do Trabalho" e "Interação com colegas e subordinados"), dois fatores de Ajustamento ao País ("Aspetos Económicos" e "Aspetos de Lazer"), e um fator de Ajustamento Psicológico. Na análise dos antecedentes foi incluída uma escala de Domínio da Língua, duas escalas de Motivos para a Expatriação ("Melhoria de Vida" e "Aventura") e uma escala de Perceção de Diferenças entre Portugal e o país de Expatriação ("Perceção de Diferenças entre Países"). Foram também incluídas variáveis demográficas dos inquiridos (ex.: género, idade e habilitações), bem como variáveis das organizações em que trabalham (ex.: tamanho, sector), e variáveis de situação de expatriação (ex.: expatriação por iniciativa própria, expatriação no contexto de uma organização onde trabalhava). Através da análise de regressão múltipla tentou-se identificar quais as variáveis com maior impacto sobre os fatores de Ajustamento. A "Perceção das Diferenças entre Países" foi a primeira variável retida em todos os modelos indicando que os participantes que viam as suas condições atuais melhores do que as que tinham em Portugal, também tinham elevados níveis de Ajustamento. Para além da "Perceção das Diferenças entre Países", o modelo explicativo da escala "Aspetos de Lazer" reteve ainda o Domínio da Língua; e o modelo explicativo da escala "Ajustamento Psicológico" reteve o Género.<br>This study analyzes the Intercultural Adjustment of Portuguese Expatriates and investigates the main antecedent variables of this adjustment. The sample included 209 participants, to whom an individual questionnaire was given. The results revealed the existence of two Work Adjustment factors ("Work Requirements" and "Interaction with colleagues and subordinates"), two factors Country Adjustment factors ("Economic Aspects" and "Leisure Aspects"), and one factor of Psychological Adjustment. For the analyses of antecedent factors, we used one scale of Language Proficiency, two scales of Expatriation Motives ("Better Life" and "Adventure") and a scale referring to perception of differences between Portugal and country of Expatriation ("Perceived Differences Between Countries"). We also included demographic variables (e.g., gender, age, education), organizational variables (e.g., size and sector), and variables referring to the expatriation situation (e.g., expatriation by personal initiative, expatriation in the context of an organization). Through multiple regression analysis we attempted to identify which variables had the highest predictive power of adjustment factors. "Perceived Differences Between Countries" was the first variable retained in all the models, indicating that participants who perceived their current conditions as better than those they had in Portugal also had higher levels of adjustment. In addition to the perception of differences between countries, the explanatory model of scale "Leisure Aspects" also retained the variable Language Proficiency and the model for "Psychological Adjustment" also retained the gender.

Abstract:

‘Towards Intercultural Documentary’ is a PhD by Published Work that is comprised of four documentary films, an exhibition catalogue essay and an academic book chapter to form a collective body of work in film and text focused on what Rughani proposes as ‘intercultural documentary practice’. This body of work configures ‘intercultural documentary practice’ as a space or arena in which people of radically different perspectives encounter the other.1 Intercultural documentary aspires to create pluralised spaces of exchange by engaging difference within and between communities. In this work, voices traditionally overlooked, excluded or edged to the cultural margins are re-framed to find a new centrality in a broader encounter, more accurately reflecting the diverse influences that comprise polyglot societies. In the United Kingdom (UK) context, three submitted films, broadcast to peak-time audiences on BBC 2 and Channel 4, stood in contradistinction to mainstream narratives that typically portrayed British experience as largely monocultural and homogeneous. The contribution to knowledge of this thesis is in deepening and extending the dynamics of documentary practice to embrace intercultural communication and to weld this to the ethics of documentary making. In so doing, this body of work situates ethics as central to the documentary encounter and offers new practice-based insights into navigating tensions in the process of making such work and its methodologies. ‘Towards Intercultural Documentary’ presents a case for the coherence of the body of work that makes a contribution to knowledge at the inter-disciplinary confluence of: documentary studies and practice, ethics and intercultural communication. The submission comprises: Islam and the Temple of’ ‘Ilm’ (BBC 2, 1990); One of the Family (Channel 4, 2000); Playing Model Soldiers (Channel 4, 2000); Glass Houses (British Council, 2004); the exhibition catalogue essay British Homeland in Home (British Council, 2004) and the book chapter ‘Are You a Vulture? Nel primo capitolo è trattata la negoziazione interculturale: strategie comunicative, risoluzione di problemi e come gestire la negoziazione stessa con persone che hanno una percezione degli eventi diversa dalla nostra. Il secondo capitolo esamina la gestione del reclamo in chiave interculturale, cui tema principale è la grande differenza tra collettivisti ed individualisti durante una situazione di reclamo, la loro relazione con il proprio 'in-group' e 'out-group' e la gestione di situazioni tanto complicate quanto delicate che ogni giorno un lavoratore a contatto con queste due varianti culturali deve affrontare. Nell'ultimo capitolo si fa riferimento al modello Balboni - Caon sia per il modello di competenza linguistica sia per il modello di competenza linguistica interculturale e una rielaborazione di entrambi sul caso. Il capitolo è concluso da esempi su come gestire le varie situazioni con clienti di culture diversa dalla nostra.

Este artículo se basa en una investigación etnográfica de dos años que analiza el proceso de profesionalización y las experiencias de trabajo comunitario de estudiantes y egresados del Instituto Intercultural Ñöñho (IIÑ), una pequeña universidad indígena ubicada en la región ñöñho (otomí) del sur del estado mexicano de Querétaro. Entre los principales hallazgos se muestra que estos actores, a través del uso sociocultural de sus saberes escolares, construyen y despliegan colectivamente un conjunto de estrategias interculturales (Bertely, 1997) para intervenir comunitariamente en tres aspectos: (i) las condiciones locales de marginación socioeconómica, (ii) el desplazamiento cultural y lingüístico, y (iii) la presencia de violencias en los espacios de socialización juvenil. En un inicio, el texto pone en perspectiva histórica las distintas rutas de profesionalización indígena que han existido en el contexto mexicano. Posteriormente, se ofrece una contextualización del IIÑ y del perfil pedagógico de su programa de licenciatura en Economías Solidarias. Finalmente se describen las estrategias interculturales que producen estudiantes y egresados de esta universidad indígena, a partir de una mirada que contempla la afirmación de su etnicidad en el marco de procesos de escolarización.<br>This article is based on a two-year ethnographic research that analyzes the process of professionalization and community work experiences of students and graduates of the Instituto Intercultural Ñöñho (IIÑ), a small indigenous university located in the ñöñho (otomí) region of the southern Mexican state of Querétaro. Among the main findings it presents that these actors collectively build and display a set of intercultural strategies (Bertely, 1997) to intervene in three issues: (i) the local socio-economic marginalization conditions, (ii) the cultural and language shift, (iii) and the violence within the socialization spaces of the youths.; all these through the sociocultural application of their academic knowledge. Firstly, this study puts in historical perspective the different paths of indigenous professionalization that have existed in the Mexican context. Subsequently, it offers a contextualization of the IIÑ and of the pedagogical profile of its degree program in Solidarity Economics. Finally, it describes the intercultural strategies produced by the students and graduates from this indigenous university, departing from the assertion of their own ethnicity within their schooling process.

Abstract:

In an age where connections around the world have become commonplace, intercultural competence is undoubtedly a valuable asset. Every day, both at work and in private life, we encounter people from different countries and cultures who are likely to hold different values and beliefs than we do. It is for this reason that intercultural competence is important - and essential in today's world. The present paper focuses on the perception and awareness of intercultural competence among expatriates living in Slovakia. In the first part of the paper, we discuss the theoretical concepts of intercultural competence. In the practical part, we evaluate the results of a questionnaire that aimed to determine the awareness and perception of CQ among expatriates living in Slovakia. The main findings, among others, show that despite the importance of the topic, expatriates in Slovakia do not consider themselves interculturally competent, as well as that they are not provided with sufficient training in this area on the employer's side. The paper concludes with practical recommendations.

Abstract:

La Educación Intercultural Bilingüe (EIB) ha presentado grandes avances atendiendo las necesidades educativas de los pueblos y nacionalidades indígenas en los distintos países de la región. Sin embargo, pese a estos logros históricos, los sistemas educativos interculturales bilingües aún presentan importantes problemas estructurales, principalmente relacionados con bajas tasas de asistencia y altas tasas de deserción con respecto a sus pares no indígenas. Las brechas de aprendizaje también son mayores, como demuestran los resultados de las pruebas estandarizadas aplicadas a los estudiantes de las escuelas interculturales bilingües. La dotación de docentes eficaces para las escuelas interculturales bilingües resulta clave para mejorar la calidad educativa de la población indígena y cerrar las brechas de aprendizajes de sus estudiantes. A pesar de esto, existen varias investigaciones que han demostrado que estas escuelas presentan mayor escasez de docentes y, además, son espacios de concentración de docentes menos calificados. Por lo tanto, es importante fortalecer los procesos de selección y asignación de docentes hacia las escuelas del sistema intercultural bilingüe, buscando atraer maestros eficaces, por medio de acciones transparentes y equitativas. Con esta intención, Ecuador ha desarrollado el concurso “Quiero Ser Maestro Intercultural Bilingüe (QSMIB)”, diseñado exclusivamente para atender la escasez de docentes que presentan las instituciones educativas pertenecientes a los pueblos y nacionalidades indígenas del país. Este informe describe y analiza el desarrollo del concurso y presenta las principales ventajas y retos que ha enfrentado en su implementación. Por un lado, el QSMIB ha supuesto importantes avances relacionados con la certificación del conocimiento de la lengua ancestral por parte de los participantes, la adaptación de instrumentos de evaluación a los currículos propios del sistema de educación intercultural bilingüe y la focalización exclusiva en las vacantes de docentes para las instituciones de los pueblos y nacionalidades indígenas. Sin embargo, también se han revelado oportunidades para incorporar estrategias de mejora de cara a futuras convocatorias, con acciones orientadas a impulsar la formación asertiva de los aspirantes frente al fortalecimiento de sus lenguas ancestrales, a profundizar el aprendizaje de los contenidos del modelo de educación intercultural bilingüe, a adaptar mejor el diseño de los instrumentos de evaluación a los contextos de las nacionalidades indígenas y a promover la asignación oportuna de los docentes indígenas en sus propios contextos culturales y sociales.

Abstract:

This paper presents some of the background research that contributed to the discussions within the Inter-American Development Bank's policy and strategy regarding indigenous health issues. The paper's conceptual approach and good practice research helped focus the discussion on the importance of intercultural health practices to promote indigenous peoples' access to allopathic health as well as to strengthen those traditional health practices based on indigenous peoples' own knowledge, culture, social networks, institutions and ways of life, that have shown their effectiveness. The paper presents five intercultural health experiences (in Suriname, Guatemala, Chile, Ecuador and Colombia) that are considered best practices in the field. Although poorly financed, these experiences highlight the significance to indigenous peoples of health models that bridge the gap between state-financed allopathic health services and their own indigenous health systems. This study however, does not represent a medical trial on the efficacy or efficiency of intercultural health models.
