The article analyzes some of the literary texts of modern German literature with an intercultural potential in the modern literary context of Germany and the question whether they are relevant to the development of an intercultural competence in foreign language teaching. Theoretical aspects of the appropriation and extension of the intercultural competence are summarized and exemplified by the works of modern German authors. Three novels and their intercultural potential are analyzed, including: S. Kuegler „Dschungelkind“, S. Möller „Viva Polonia“ and H. Akyün „Einmal Hans mit scharfer Soße“.
