Full textThe aim of this thesis is to analyze, with both an epistemic and transformative goal, the PE teachers’ activity in interdisciplinary devices — their actions, focus, preoccupations and typical knowledge — versus students’ perceptions of it. This work is conducted within the theoretical and methodological framework of the course of action (Theureau, 2004, 2006). Three interdisciplinary devices have been studied : the first, at the junction of PE, Technology and Mathematics, finalized by the creation of Android © applications ; the second, alternates between PE and French literature in which students live and communicate on different kinds of emotions experienced in open-air physical and sports activities, and the third in which students create an English tutorial on a muscle building strengthening exercises of their choice. From the analysis of the various data collected (PE lessons, self-confrontation interviews and ethnographic notes), results highlight (1) teachers’ actions, focus, preoccupations and typical knowledge during transversal moments; (2) cross-curricularism’s forms, functions and educational finalities carried out by teachers; (3) temporalities of the transversal moments on the scale of lesson and teaching sequence; and (4) correlations and divergences between the intended educational finalities of the PE teacher and the students’ perceptions. These results are discussed in view of the knowledge already exists about this thematic in the scientific literature; but also in a transformative aim, so that teachers and future teachers wishing to engage in transversal devices can find clues to become more efficient in their daily practices

Full textOur research aimed at analyzing the impacts of education reforms involving formation and pedagogical practice of elementary and middle school teachers which have taken place both in Brazil and in France from the nineties. More specifically, we have centered in three aspects: first, analyzing the general formation profile that has been demanded for teachers by education policies in both contexts; second, identifying the concrete challenges that teachers from elementary school face in order to develop their work in the classroom; and third, finding out the way mathematical knowledge is treated and interdisciplinarity

Full textThe practices of interdisciplinary teaching, which have been developed over the past fifty years at the very heart of the french education system, have two distinguishing trademarks - their specific and marginal nature. Although these practices preceded the scientific interdisciplinary approach and had no real connection with the academic interdisciplinary approach, they all have one purpose in common despite their various forms - namely, to correct the disjunction in which the student finds himself/hers lf (fragmented knowledge, the gap between scholar and real life, the isolation and segmentation of various competences in each subject and the student's role being reduced to that of a passive learner). Although the interdisciplinary approach was supported and even recommended by the education authorities which eventually placed it at the core of educational project work in the college, its practice still remains marginalised. This thesis attempts to find answers to this two-fold question. If one accepts that there is an apparent consensus of interest in the interdisciplinary approach, then the question that must be asked is "how best to go about implimenting it ?" the author proposes to probe deeply into the complex thinking developed by Edgar Morin and thereby come up with the elements of an operating model for interdisciplinary pedagogy. There are two ways of carrying out and on-the-ground survey into the first three years of college. The first is to use certain tools advocated in la Méthode (through dialogues and complex causalities) in order to achieve a comprehensive understanding of all the knowledge acquired by the student. The second is to get a 3 - dimensional view of the student from the point of view of the epistemical, the psychological and the social. By encouraging, through adapted pedagogical practices, a propension to articulate the components of his being, the student will then be able to develop a competence to link all these elements and thereby give meaning to all that he is learning. The specific nature of school subjects, which combine cognitive and socio-affective objectives, and the multidisciplinary nature of the scholarly referents, make them the perfect foundation on which the ability to make connections can be built

In this thesis we investigate how the interdisciplinarity is developed in the established relations between disciplines and professionals which are engaged in distance education pedagogical practices. To achieve this, we used the genetic epistemology support, which conceives the interdisciplinarity as a collaboration between diverse disciplines that drives the interactions and enables the reciprocity in the exchanges, supporting one enrichment between the envolved disciplines. It started from the "pedagogia a distância da UFRGS (PEAD/UFRGS)" course case study to analyze these relations development, both in the curriculum ambit and in pedagogical practice. The intelectual exchanges realized between the professors from "Seminario Integrador" interdiscipline in a discussion list at the final semesters evaluation documents as well as various versions from these documents were considered as sources of evidence for the course pedagogical project (CPP) data analysis. The CPP course's analysis demonstrated that this prevised the curriculum components articulation beyond the division in closed disciplines and the participation of various professionals in diverse areas at the interdisciplinarity sharing and activities elaboration. The analysis of the exchanges and the documents allowed us to infer interdisciplinarity conceptions, organized between three levels, where in the first it was present the idea of relations preposition, in the second the approximation between diverse areas and in the third the intersection between these areas. Still, it allowed think in the relations among exchanges, documents structure and interdisciplinarity concept. We found that cooperative exchanges are united to the interdisciplinarity concept and, to the extent that the professors were doing the exchanges and the conceptions were changing, as well as modifications occured into the proposed evaluation documents. The executed analysis allowed reflections about the necessity for the curriculum to plan permeability spaces between the contents and the professionals that acts at the distance education in order to foment interdisciplinary practices. Equally, the cooperation between the professionals were indentified as an important factor for these practices effectivation. It is considered that the knowledge built in this thesis contributes to reflect not only about the developed process along the PEAD course, but also provides subsidies to think the interdisciplinaries projects implementation at distance education.

Full textFor the last ten years, we witness how the inherent learning properties of videogames entice several creators into exploring their potential as a medium of expression for diverse and innovative (serious) purposes. Learning is at the core of the play experience, but it usually takes place at the affective and psychomotor domains. When the learning targets the serious content, cognitive/instructional designers must ensure its effectiveness at the cognitive domain. In such eminently multidisciplinary teams (game, technology, cognition, art), understanding and communication are essential for an effective collaboration from the early stage of inception. In a software engineering approach, we focus on the (multidisciplinary) activities of the development process rather than the disciplines themselves, with the intent to uniform and clarify the field. Then, we propose a software foundation that reinforces this multidisciplinary model thanks to an underdesign approach that favors the creation of collaborative design workspaces. Thereby, Genome Engine can be considered as a data-driven sociotechnical infrastructure that provides non-programmer developers, such as game designers and eventually cognitive designers, with a means to actively participate in the construction of the product design, rather than evaluating it once in usage time. Its architecture is based on a component-based application framework with an entity system of systems runtime object model, which contributes to modularity, reuse and adaptability, as well as to provide familiar abstractions that ease communication. Our approach has been extensively evaluated with the development of several serious game projects

Full textThis research focuses on the field of didactics of mathematics. It has two main objectives: the first is to understand how the use of the concepts of fraction and proportion in intra and interdisciplinary contexts can affect the learning and teaching of mathematics, science and technology as well as physics and chemistry. The second is to grasp whether the learning of geometry, probability, energy efficiency, concentration, stoichiometry , optical reflection, and uniformly accelerated rectilinear motion transforms the fraction and the proportion of the object to the tool (Douady, 1986). In order to achieve these goals, this research consists in identifying the nature of teacher-student interactions around the concepts of fraction and proportion taken in different contexts. The concepts of the fraction and the proportion play a crucial role in the training program of the Quebec school (MELS, 2001). They illustrate the intra and interdisciplinary character of their usages in mathematics and other disciplines. This diversity of use in view of intradisciplinary links (probability, statistics, homothetic, etc.) and interdisciplinary links (in science and technology, chemistry, biology, economics, etc.) makes their constructions fundamental. The conceptualization of fraction and proportion is based on various significances of the fraction (part of a whole, measure, ratio, quotient and operator) and on its assimilation (Proulx & Bednarz, 2009). However, developing the meaning of these two concepts represents a major challenge for students. This learning complexity is shared by researchers in didactics of mathematics (Brousseau, 1998; Kieren, 1988; G. Vergnaud, 1983, 1990) and by several teachers . This research studies the use of the status of fraction / proportion as per the dialectic tool / object (Douady, 1986) in intra and interdisciplinary contexts. Based on a qualitative / interpretative research, our analysis focuses mainly on the interactions between the teacher and the students as well as their productions. Our results on the nature of interactions between the teacher and the students and the task brought to light the didactic incidents (Roditi, 2005), the identification of breaks in the didactical contract (Brousseau, 1998) and the support given to students according to the types of proximities (Bridoux & al., 2015). Firstly, the analysis of interactions related to learning allowed us to identify the possible origin of the students’ errors and their characteristics which are grouped into three parts. The first part is linked to the data of the task statement when moving from a register of semiotic representation to another (Duval, 1993). When interpreting the data, the errors noted appear to be related to superfluous data and to certain terms used in the instructions. The second part is related to conceptual errors and generally affects proportional reasoning. When interpreting the ratio fraction, especially in the contexts of trigonometry and energy efficiency, the fraction is considered a quantity without establishing a relation between the numerator and the denominator. The third procedural aspect is related to the application of the cross-product procedure and the rules related to the various operations on fractions. In addition, this analysis allowed us to qualify the students' understanding of procedural according to the conceptual analysis of Bergeron and Herscovics (1989). In the mathematics class, the understanding of probability is interpreted according to the conceptual analysis performed by Savard (2008) and the understanding of trigonometry is examined according to the conceptual analysis performed by Sonja De kee, Dionne and Mura (1996). Secondly, the analysis of interactions linked to teaching allowed us to classify the types of help that teachers provide to students. We have categorized them according to three types of proximities (Bridoux et al., 2015): ascending proximities, descending proximities and horizontal proximities. We noted a predominance of the use of horizontal proximities among the four teachers. These horizontal proximities are very local in nature and their cognitive reach is limited (Bridoux et al., 2015, p. 22), thus contributing to the maintenance of the didactic contract. The effects of the didactic contract such as the Topaz effect, the effect of misunderstood expectation and the actor's paradox also influenced learning by maintaining the didactic contract. We have noted a frequent use of the Topaz effect, which in addition to maintaining the didactic contract, reduces the responsibility of the students and creates, in the student, expectations of solution from the teacher. Thus, this mode of intervention presents the cross-product procedure as the solution to the proposed tasks. The teacher/student’s relationship with knowledge also seems to influence learning and teaching in each discipline of our experimentation. The teaching seems to focus more on formal procedures than on understanding the underlying reasoning behind the concepts of fraction and proportion. Thus, students' understanding, and reasoning are abandoned in favor of procedures with rapid application. This relation to knowledge with regard to the concepts of fraction and proportion seems to be characterized by a desire to optimize the time devoted to their subject. This social dimension, although it responds to didactic time (Mercier, 1985, 1992), does not seem to contribute to the construction of the meaning of the concepts of fraction and proportion. By not being invited to use these concepts and develop their meaning, students could develop an instrumental relationship to knowledge. Finally, thanks to our results of student productions and verbatim, we were able to highlight the nature of the use of the fraction / proportion according to the dialectic as a tool or object (Douady, 1986). Analysis of the interventions of the four teachers, which are characterized by a predominance of horizontal proximities shows that these did not favor the transition from the fraction / the object proportion to the fraction / the tool proportion. This analysis revealed to us that the interpretations of the concepts of fraction, percentage, part-whole proportion and independent quantity proportion are still under construction and they are located at the "research" phase according to the operating cycle of the DOO. This analysis highlights many errors and confirms that the students' knowledge mainly relates to the procedures for carrying out the tasks. These errors show that their reasoning is based on the use of these concepts as "tools in development" in the resolution of tasks. Thus, these “tools in development” are more particularly observable in the “old” and “research” phases according to the operating cycle of the DOO. The notion of fraction and proportion play a significant role in learning and teaching in intra and interdisciplinary contexts and constitute a major challenge for students. This is how this study made explicit the fact that students use the concepts of fraction and proportion as a “tool in development” (Douady, 1986) when learning geometry, probability and energy efficiency, concentration, stoichiometry, optical reflection and uniformly accelerated rectilinear motion. As the fraction and the proportion are still in the state of a "tool in development" (Douady, 1986), their use in situations involving these two concepts influences the learning and teaching of these subjects.

Full textThe following study discusses the influence of drama and singing in the teaching and learning of French pronunciation as a foreign language. The theoretical part of this reflexion relies on interactionism, socio-constructivism and emergentist approaches. We will review the different methods of teaching pronunciation as well as the concepts of “norm” “correction”, “body langage” and “voice setting” in such context. Therefore, we conducted two experiments. The first study took place at the University Paris 3 Sorbonne-Nouvelle. We managed a singing project with students who learn French pronunciation at the A2 level. The second one dealt with drama and pronunciation with a group of A2 level students at the Catholic University of Paris. Through the observation and collection of pre- and post-tests we will present the results of the analysis of /y/ and /u/ of female voices through such protocols. This study aims to contribute to the field of pronunciation with artistic approaches

Full textThis research is situated in the field of language teaching. It is based on an experience of teaching French through a circus arts project, conducted in a primary school with a group of children aged 6 to 11, recently arrived in France. The hypothesis is that circus activities through the emotions involved and the implied situations of communication lead to spontaneous speech and have a positive effect of L2 oral production. The steps of the project take into account the evolution of emotions developed in these artistic activities: - Move to feel moved - See and feel moved – Give to see for spectators to feel moved. The analysis of the tasks in the light of language acquisition theories leads to a better understanding of the impact of this project on learners’ oral production of French. The analysis of the oral production, the examination of the investment of learners in the project and of emotions they expressed, allow me to highlight certain elements of the link between emotion, investment and L2 acquisition. After measuring the scope and limits of this study, I can suggest a few perspectives and advice for the establishment of a circus project involving L2 acquisition

Full textThe french education has come to a total mutation ; lots of questions concerning the child and his relationship with the school or with adults are raising up. If we consider that the pupil is also the fruit of a Human Being, endowed with feelings (affects), carrying his own but also collective story, we'll try to understand, thanks to psychoanalisis, how the fear of learning and the difficulty of thinking are revealing a real mutation that we cannot ignore any more. The child cannot leave his affects on the doorstep of the school ; effectively, nor our society, nor our culture take care of these feelings any more. Moreover, his anxiety is relative to existential questions. Now, it appears that the youth literature, written in this infinite cultural flood, taking its source in the oral and ancestral tradition of mythology and fairy tales, may represent an exceptional cultural mediation in order to allow the child to restore his imagination function very closed to his reflexive capacity, basis of all the school training. In this way, the youth literature, including collective representations and staging a potential personal experience located in the realm of imagination, would allow the child to create the link between his daily way of living and the concept: his personal story and his place in the world (universality) in a real perspective of anthropology of school knowledge

Full textThis thesis, rooted in urban anthropology and urban practices, focuses particularly on the process democratic participation in urban development projects. Indeed, urban development leads to significant consequences throughout the city's territory, causing tensions and repercussions both on the environment and on local social dynamics. The public school, as an architectural element and public facility dedicated to cultural education and the transmission of scientifically validated knowledge, is inevitably affected by these projects, themselves influenced by contemporary urban planning norms. My professional and personal experiences, rooted in the school context, enabled me to engage in urban renewal projects from 2010 to 2015. I conducted an ethnographic investigation into specific participation scenarios in the neighborhoods of Armação in Florianópolis, Brazil, and Carnot-Parmentier in Saint-Fons, in the metropolis of Lyon, and carried out an analysis of territorial development projects. In a reflexive approach and within a research-action perspective, I engaged in pedagogical initiatives that, through a multi-situated comparative study, enabled me to follow different actors in urban policy, residents, school professionals, and students. I analyzed institutional dynamics as well as the processes experienced by social actors involved in urban changes, while examining my own trajectory and commitment. Despite the emergence of democratic participation in our societies, I have observed that in the studied projects, this practice remains marginal. I have observed that this practice remains marginal in our societies, and that experiences lived, perceived, and conceived influenced by memory, by politico-administrative processes, as well as by sciences are scarcely considered in this participatory process. Participatory school experiences observed on the ground have been perceived as relational emancipatory practices, both individual and collective. Schools, influenced by epistemological and methodological elements, can become crucial local actors in the transgenerational construction of responses to challenges related to gentrification, the environment, development, as well as culture and urban social policies. However, educational and territorial public policies, influenced by political-administrative and scientific processes, appear to be very poorly connected. In this sense, considering the systemic aspect of participatory experience is of increasing importance for the sustainable development of cities and the promotion of the integral fulfillment of citizens

The goal of this study is to explore if an IPE course, using an interprogram workshop and retroaction by a tandem comprised of a patient-partner with an instructor profile and of a teacher, an innovative approach initiated by the Université de Montréal, influences medical students’ attitudes towards IPE and allows developing communication and collaborative skills. Forty-six of the two hundred and fifty medical students participating in the course filled out the Readiness of Health Care Students for InterProfessional Learning Scale. A positive attitude towards IPE is found in the vast majority of students («teamwork and collaboration» section: 88.9±5.8% of student answers = agree/completely agree). Qualitative analysis of more than 1500 written comments made by students showed that students perceived an improvement in their communication and collaboration skills, as well as their confidence in those skills. Overall, they had better understanding of professional roles and responsibilities. Factors influencing their attitudes and beliefs, as well as barriers to IPE, emerged from the analysis; the importance of respect and abolishing prejudices in order to succeed at IPE were raised. By participating to this IPE course, medical students of Université de Montréal have an exceptional opportunity to familiarize themselves with health care involving partnership with patients and collaborative practice. A discussion of barriers for the participation of medical students in pedagogical research and possible solutions to enhance their interest in the future are provided.
Lafleur, Dominique.
At the collegial level, literature professors face the challenge of competence and culture’s complementarily. This project is designed to foster cultural development through the teaching of comparative literature and music based on a problem-solving approach. However, there is no theory of instruction that lends itself to the establishment of such interdisciplinary course material. This research-development intends to develop a didactics theory appropriate to such an approach through a theoretical component and a practical one. To address the purpose of the research, the second chapter presents the theoretical component, which establishes a theory for teaching comparative literature and music through a conceptual analysis (Van der Maren, 2004). In this section, a reference document composed of three parts is developed. The first is epistemological and emphasizes certain issues regarding interdisciplinarity. Didactic in nature, the second deals with the parameters of the processes of transformation and of transpositions applied to knowledge in the context of interdisciplinary education. The third and final part is based on the two that precede it, suggesting points where elements of interdisciplinary content intersect to link literature and music. The third chapter then describes the practical component in detail in order to develop the research product. Building on the developments of the reference document, this section presents the three product specification documents: the knowledge specifications, the pedagogical specifications and the media specifications, according to a research-development methodology proposed Loiselle et Harvey (2009). These documents lead to the concrete realization of the research product: a sample outline for a comparative literature and music course. This outline is divided into three phases: 1) a presentation of general content regarding literature and music to differentiate the two arts, 2) an exploration of interdisciplinary links from sounds, vowels and consonants to the space and temporality of the story, and 3) a written work that requires students to delve into a final comparative literature and music assignment based on concrete and complete literary works. Completing this methodological chapter is an examination of the conditions related to the evaluation of this research-development by a panel of third-party expert respondents for the purpose of discussing the results obtained. This panel of experts includes a university professor, a college-level researcher and an educational consultant at the college level. According to the experts’ assessment, this research-development exhibits a high degree of relevance and innovation from a theoretical perspective. It addresses the lack of an interdisciplinary theory of instruction in comparative literature and music. Moreover, from the practical perspective, the sample outline has proved to be functional, consultable, adaptable and transferable, and it may be used as an example for any institutional course outline template or for teaching sequences aimed at interdisciplinary cultural development.

Full textSince 2001, the Quebec school program states that an « appreciation » competency has to be taught within all four artistic school disciplines. This study describes the influence of activities integrating visual arts and music on the appreciation experience of 6th grade students. More specifically, this study aims to relate the different dimensions that can be found in the students’ verbal account of their appreciation experience and to show how the interdisciplinary activities affect their verbalization of these dimensions. Five case studies conducted with 6th grade elementary school students are presented. These five students, along with the other students in their class, have participated in one intradisciplinary activity and two interdisciplinary activities integrating visual arts and music. Following each activity, the students were met for semi-structured interviews in which they were asked to share their appreciation experience. Four tendencies have emerged from qualitative data analysis: a more insightful listening, a more accurate description of perceptual elements, a more accurate description of the student’s feelings and finally a form of distraction from the music. It appears that appreciation activities which integrate visual arts and music could be, if not a systematic approach, a way to differentiate teaching in a way that could be helpful to some types of learners.

Full textThis research aims at demonstrating the pertinence of the utilization of the novel The City of the Beasts (Isabel Allende, 2002) as a tool for teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) at an intermediate level (B2) and in a multicultural context. Within this frame, the teaching of a second language pursues linguistic acquisition and encourages the exploration of a different culture in order to foster the discovery of the values of the other and its critical integration. This attitude shows to be indispensable for the development of the identity of the individual within societies growingly exposed from inside and outside to interaction between cultures. The selected novel allows access to interdisciplinary connections within Quebec’s College programs and promotes an attitude of openness toward the discovery of other cultures and values, requiring availability to question the student’s own cultural presuppositions, according to the tenets of contemporary intercultural studies. The novel belongs to the literary movement of Magical Realism, which helps introduce the students to the exploration of specifically Hispanic cultural themes. After a revision of the place of interculturalism and interdisciplinarity in the teaching of ELE, the dissertation analyses the specific contribution of the selected novel to these dimensions, in order to present exercises oriented toward the practice and the consolidation of grammatical and lexical knowledge, and toward the development of an intercultural sensibility in the students, providing individual and group activities built from the perspectives that emerge from the text.

Full textThe richness of the text and images in some children's books can be used for cultural and interdisciplinary teaching in French and in the visual arts at the primary level. However, there are few tools to support and encourage teachers to apply such practices. The objective of this research and development is to design and test a tool for elementary school teachers to develop, among students, the skills to appreciate literary and artistic works, such as targeted in French and visual arts curriculum (MEQ, 2001) using a children's book. More specifically, this objective has been divided into three sub-objectives: 1) to design a prototype with the help of experts; 2) to develop the prototype based on testing with teachers; and 3) to develop a repertoire of children's books with pedagogical suggestions for validating the tool and encouraging the implementation of interdisciplinary practices in French and the visual arts. The prototype was evaluated by six experts and five elementary school teachers. The data collected from the evaluation questionnaires, the logbook kept during the training sessions and the documents related to the prototype made it possible to conclude that the tool allowed to deepen the teachers' knowledge concerning children's books and the skills "to appreciate". The creation of the repertoire based the modified version of the prototype also demonstrates that the children's books contain many elements appropriate for implementing interdisciplinary practices.

Full textOur developmental research in didactics has focused on two distinct aspects : The students' active engagement under the constructivist paradigms of competency-based learning and the technological enhancement of laboratory settings using the new MicrolabExAO environment. Towards these ends, we have explored the teaching possibilities offered by MicrolabExAO which allows learners to design their own electronic measuring tools with the computer assisted experimentation. By developing an appropriated teaching intervention, we wanted to enable the student not only to build his/her tools, but also to understand how they work. Through the actual implementation of four measuring tools, the student has progressively developed his/her own approach to resolving complex problems which call upon knowledge and skills in experimental sciences, mathematics and technology. In the final activity of the teaching intervention, with the objective of assessing the level of integration of this technoscientific approach, we have asked the learners to apply their new knowledge within the framework of building a manometer on their own. In doing so, the learners have deployed their knowledge and skills in experimental sciences, mathematics and technology in order to build the measuring tool and to explain its functioning, thereby achieving interdisciplinary learning. Since they have been given neither instructions from the teacher, nor operating protocols, we can say that they have been put in an adidactical situation which allowed them to demonstrate interdisciplinary expertise in their approach.

Full textThis thesis presents an exploration of the influence that teacher can have on student’s development of interest toward the courses they give. The formal goal of this study was to evaluate a pedagogical intervention focusing on interdisciplinary in order to stimulate the interest of college students for their Preparatory French course (PF). This pedagogical process consisted of a linkage between two courses: one less appreciated by the students (PF) and one chosen for interest by the students (a psychology of sexuality course). Then, as much links as possible have been planed between these courses. From the literature, it was possible to believe that an interest for the PF course would emerge if French learning activities were done, using notions studied in the psychology course. The Hidi’s and Renninger’s (2006) theory about development of interest let anticipate the development of the interest for learning French. Plus, school motivation’s literature let expect that this interest would be associate with a higher perception of utility for the PF course from the students, a better engagement in this course and a better performance in written orthography. To evaluate this intervention, a quasi-experimental design with a control condition and quantitative methodology has been adopted. The experimental group (EG) was composed of 27 college students registered in the two courses: the PF course and the psychology of sexuality course. The control group (CG) was composed of 79 college students registered in the PF course without being exposed to any interdisciplinary condition. Likert scales were used to measure interest and utility. Likert scales and presences in class noted by the teachers were used to measure engagement. A dictation, administered before and after the intervention, measured the performance in written orthography. The results of a multivariate analysis (MANOVA) revealed higher interest scores for the EG at the end of the semester, compared to the CG, as for perceived utility and behavioral engagement. For the orthographic performance, the number of orthographic grammatical mistakes was significantly lower for the EG after the intervention, compared to the CG. These results are discussed in the light of scientific literature. They suggest according more value to interdisciplinary in the teaching practices in college.
