Abstract:
Inclusion of tangible user interfaces can facilitate learning through contextual experience, interaction with the provided information, and epistemic actions, resulting in effecting learning in design education. The goal of this study is to investigate how tangible user interface (TUI) affects design learning through the cognitive load. Extended reality-based TUI and traditional desktop-based GUI were utilized to deliver the same information to two groups of students. The NASA TLX tool was used to measure students' perceived cognitive load after receiving information through the two modalities. Contemporary design pedagogy, the potential use of XR, design cognition, today's design learners experience-oriented lifestyle were combined to provide a theoretical framework to understand how information delivery modalities affect design learning. The results reveal that the use of XR-based TUIs decreases cognitive load resulting in enhanced experience and effective learning in design studios.

RÉSUMÉ Le but de cet article article est de motiver empiriquement l’hypothèse de l’interface morphologique, soit que les têtes complexes sont interprétées au niveau de cet interface, le seul ayant les caractéristiques d’interprétation des X0 complexes. La différence fondamentale entre cet interface et celui où les syntagmes sont interprétés vient des propriétés respectives des X0 et des SX. En effet, si les SX donnent toujours lieu à des interprétations compositionnelles, les X0 sont toujours interprétés de manière atomique. Dans les deux première sections, nous présentons une analyse des verbes à objet inhérent (VOI) en fon. Nous montrons que les VOI sont dérivés par adjonction à la base, ce qui fait d’eux des X0 complexes. Dans la troisième section, nous montrons que, d’un point de vue minimaliste, il est important de distinguer l’interface où les SX sont interprétés de façon compositionnelle de celui où les X0 complexes reçoivent leur interprétation canonique.

O artigo trata da tecnologia 4.0 e 5.0 na educação, mostrando diferenças e como isto veio impactar neste aceleramento de uso durante e pós pandêmico. A tecnologia impactou fortemente nas áreas da educação, com tantos ganhos nos acertos, como nas perdas que serviram de base para outros acertos, é inegável não se ter práticas experimentais a discorrer, uma vez que se estar envolvido diretamente com este tipo de educação moderna. Tais experiências 4.0 ou 5.0 proporciona uma maior confiabilidade no manuseio adequado e o bom planejar, como no caso das aulas por meio dos hardwares, softwares e a internet de qualidade. Creditou-se nos seus pormenores a junção duma educação sofisticada de novas perspectivas em seu uso, além de globalizantes nas gerações digitais. Com uma metodologia rica e de alicerce bibliográfico de classificação descritiva, de natureza qualitativa, onde os teóricos vistos no (Google Acadêmico, SciELO e nos próprios materiais da MUST University) que qualificaram-se nas considerações finais, com afirmações do quanto a educação 4.0 ou 5.0 impactou positivamente no trabalho e nas aprendizagens educacionais, que com seus avanços de eras midiáticas auxiliando com temática em muitos campos de atuação na educação.

AbstractIntuitive user interfaces have been of great concern for GUI developers. The current research, who deals with their designing, faces the term intuitive constantly. The main question is how can the Interface be intuitive? For the moment, the researchers try to provide a very intuitive generic user interface that can be used in a variety of applications. In this paper we provide a solution that can model any applied ontology into a honeycomb menu. The hexagonal shape of the honeycomb has attracted the attention of humans for centuries. As a relevant consequence, the final user can browse any knowledge base very easily with the aid of this interface. Another useful feature is that programmers can take full advantage of semantic web technologies which can tailor results based on any knowledge base that is feed as input, without any need for code change, thus leading towards a panacea system.

Peças de grande importância na estrutura metálica, as placas de bases, passam despercebidas do olhar do público em geral, justifica-se a inobservância até mesmo pelo lugar onde elas trabalham que, após o acabamento da estrutura, elas tornam-se peças invisíveis, com um papel importantíssimo no conjunto da estrutura, por elas passam toda a carga direcionada a fundação e nem sempre e dada a atenção devida, que, uma vez assentadas tornam-se quase insubstituíveis e podem, em pouco tempo, causar problemas estruturais graves ocasionando prejuízos e prejudicando a imagem da construção metálica que tem um enorme potencial de crescimento no Brasil. Neste estudo, serão apresentados resultados de ensaios que demonstraram como estas peças trabalham e como elas, se mal projetadas, potencializam patologias futuras. Estes ensaios serão comparativos apenas para visualização da problemática envolvendo estes elementos.

Abstract:
Les interfaces basées sur des tuiles sont apparues pour la première fois sous Windows 8. Ce type d'interface consiste en un pavage de l'espace d'affichage en utilisant des entités rectangulaires remplaçant les icônes pour lancer les programmes. Le principal avantage de ce type d'interface est que chaque tuile assimilable à un menu peut contenir différents types d'informations (texte, graphiques, vidéo, etc.). Classiquement, la taille des tuiles et leur emplacement sont définis par l'utilisateur. Dans le cadre de cette thèse, nous souhaitons offrir la possibilité de générer des interfaces de ce type de manière dynamique et en fonction de différents contextes. Ce problème englobe des questions importantes d'Interaction Homme-Machine (IHM) et d'Optimisation Combinatoire (OC). En effet, la version standard de ces menus avec des rectangles à dimensions fixes (The two-dimensional bin-packing) appartient déjà à la classe des problèmes NP-difficiles. D'un autre côté, le sujet comporte des aspects IHM importants, notamment la prise en compte de contextes variables plus ou moins dépendants de l'utilisateur, la simulation et mise en œuvre des algorithmes conçus sur des interfaces réelles, et enfin la validation par des tests utilisateurs de la visualisation produite en situation d'interactions<br>Tile-based interfaces appeared for the first time on Windows 8. This type of interface consists of a tiling of the display space using rectangular entities replacing the icons to launch the programs. The main advantage of this interface is that each tile matching to a menu can contain several types of information (text, graphics, video, etc.). In the current use of these interfaces, the size of the tiles and their placement are currently set by the user. In this research work, we would like to offer the possibility to generate this interface in a dynamic way and according to various contexts. This problem encompasses important issues of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Combinatorial Optimization (CO). Indeed, the standard version of these menus with fixed-dimensional rectangles (The two-dimensional bin-packing) already belongs to the class of NP-difficult problems. On the other hand, the subject includes important HCI aspects, in particular the taking into account of variable contexts more or less dependent on the user, the simulation and implementation of the algorithms designed on real interfaces, and finally the validation by user tests of the generated interfaces during interaction

Abstract:
This paper addresses two different aspects of the subject known as knowledge bases, or knowledge graphs. A knowledge base is defined as a comprehensive semantically organized machine-readable collection of universally relevant or domain-specific entities, classes, and facts. The objective of this paper is to explore how a knowledge base can be used to gain information about an entity. First we present one way to access information from the knowledge base using a back-end interface. This back-end interface takes simple parameters as input which are used to query the knowledge base. The main objective here is to be able to access the right entity, to be able to answers the questions correctly.  After that follows a discussion about the need for knowledge bases and possible uses. The discussions will partly be based on results from our implementation, but also consider other similar implementation, and interviews with possible users in the business and society.  We conclude that the back-end interface developed performs well enough, with a high precision, to be ran in an unsupervised system. Furthermore we realise that the interface can be improved in several ways by focusing on smaller domains of information. Several different possible uses have been identified. From these uses a market analysis has been done from which we conclude good market possibilities. Some of the key problems with implementing the interface regards the credibility of the information in the knowledge base. This is one of the main problems that needs to be solved to fully implement knowledge bases in business and society.<br>Den här rapporten tar upp två olika områden som berör knowledge bases. En knowledge base definieras som en omfattande semantiskt organiserad maskinläslig samling av universellt relevanta eller domän-specifika entiteter, klasser, och fakta. Målet med rapporten är att undersöka hur en knowledge base kan användas för att få fram information om en entitet. Först presenteras ett tillvägagångsätt för kommunikation mot en knowledge base med hjälp av ett back-end gränssnitt. Back-end gränssnittet tar enkla parametrar som input och använder dessa för att köra en query mot en knowledge base. Huvudfokus i denna del kommer ligga i att få rätt svar på frågorna och kommer därmed att utvärderas utifrån det. Det andra området som arbetet berör är en diskussion kring hur knowledge bases kan integreras i samhället och näringslivet för att få ut en ökad nytta. Diskussionerna kommer att baseras på resultaten från den första delen av arbetet till viss del, men även andra liknande studier kommer vägas in för att ge ett bredare diskussionsunderlag. Utöver detta baseras också diskussionen på intervjuer med möjliga intressenter inom näringsliv och samhälle. Det utvecklade gränssnittet presterar på en nivå, med hög precision, som vi bedömer tillräcklig för implementering i oövervakade system. Dessutom har flertalet förbättringsområden identifierats. Huvudsakligen berör dessa att mer specifika implementationer kan få högre precision då specifikare kontroller kan genomföras. Flertal möjliga användningsområden har identifierats. Med dessa som grund har en marknadsanalys genomförts som pekar på goda förutsättningar för tekniken. Ett av det största problemen berör trovärdigheten i informationen i knowledge basen. Det är ett problem som måste lösas innan tekniken kan implementeras fullt ut i näringsliv och samhälle.

Abstract:
Cette thèse porte sur l'exploration des propriétés de l'interface entre les deux cuprates supraconducteurs La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 et Pr1.85Ce0.15CuO4 réunis selon l'axe c sous la forme d'une bicouche. En particulier, on y démontre l'existence d'un phénomène de transfert de charge entre ces deux matériaux qui génère, à l'interface, une région isolante que nous surnommons le "plateau de Mott". Cette thèse couvre de nombreux sujets que l'on peut diviser en deux axes principaux. D'abord les aspects liés à la croissance et à la structure de la bicouche et ensuite les propriétés de transport de l'interface isolante. Dans un premier temps, une interface directe et franche entre ces deux cuprates de dopages opposés est réalisée via une optimisation de la croissance épitaxiale de ces matériaux en bicouche par ablation laser pulsé. La qualité cristalline des meilleurs échantillons obtenus est exceptionnelle, et ce, malgré l'important désaccord de maille entre les deux structures. La structure cristalline est ensuite principalement caractérisée par la diffraction des rayons X. Cette mesure permet d'obtenir des informations pertinentes sur la composition, l'homogénéité et les dimensions caractéristiques des couches minces. Le champ de déformation causé principalement par le désaccord de maille et la présence de dislocations à l'interface est également étudié. À cet effet, le formalisme de séparation des effets de taille et des déformations structurelles de Warren et Averbach est adapté au cas particulier des couches minces. L'accord frappant avec laquelle ce formalisme s'applique à nos résultats témoigne de la qualité des mesures expérimentales et de la netteté de ces structures. Afin d'expliquer la forme du champ de déformation mesuré, un modèle analytique basé sur la présence de dislocations d'interface est développé. Celui-ci nous permet, entre autres, d'extraire les paramètres caractéristiques du champ de déformation. Ces nouveaux outils d'analyse permettront sans doute de tirer davantage d'informations pertinentes de la diffraction des rayons X dans des projets futurs. La mise en évidence de l'existence du plateau de Mott et la caractérisation des propriétés sont menées via des mesures de résistance électrique. Plusieurs obstacles liés à la microfabrication des échantillons doivent d'abord être considérés. Le présent travail permet d'identifier un certain nombre de procédés qui provoquent une dégradation, parfois fatale, des propriétés des bicouches de cuprates. Dans certains cas, des solutions sont fournies ou suggérées. Les causes de ces dégradations sont généralement en lien avec la mobilité des atomes d'oxygène dans ces structures. Le savoir-faire développé ici pourra donc s'appliquer à l'étude des systèmes à base d'oxydes en général. Finalement, des mesures de transport électrique doublées du modèle analytique de la barrière ohmique permettent d'observer l'apparition d'une zone isolante à l'interface entre les cuprates supraconducteurs La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 et Pr1.85Ce0.15CuO4. Les propriétés de transport non linéaires et asymétriques en tension de cette interface indiquent qu'elle conduit principalement par effet tunnel. L'existence de cette barrière isolante est causée par un transfert de charge entre les deux matériaux à la manière d'une jonction p-n semi-conductrice. Par contre, dans ce cas-ci, la barrière isolante est le résultat d'une transition de Mott dans la zone d'appauvrissement ce qui lui vaut l'appellation de plateau de Mott.

Abstract:
Dans ce travail, nous avons appliqué des techniques de photoluminescence en régime stationnaire (PL) et photoluminescence en régime modulé (MPL) à l'étude d'hétérojonctions formées entre du silicium cristallin (c-Si) et du silicium amorphe hydrogéné (a-Si:H). Plus précisément, nous avons comparé des échantillons constitués de dépôts de (n)a-Si:H, (i)a-Si:H, (n)a-Si:H/(i)a-Si:H, et (p)a-Si:H/(i)a-Si:H sur des wafers de (n) c-Si de haute qualité électronique. Les mesures en fonction de la température montrent que la durée de vie des porteurs en excès diminue lorsque la température diminue, ce qui peut être qualitativement reproduit par la simulation dans un mécanisme de recombinaison de type Shokley-Read-Hall (SRH) en tenant compte du niveau d’énergie du dopant (phosphore) dans le substrat et de niveaux peu profonds électroniquement actifs à l'interface.Nous avons également étudié des échantillons dopés par implantation d'ions puis passivés par AlOx, a-Si:H et SiC. Des signatures de dislocations sont révélées à basse température par des pics supplémentaires de PL.Nous avons également comparé les résultats de cartographies de PL et de durée de vie obtenues par l'analyse de l'amplitude de MPL, et par l'analyse de son déphasage. Il est constaté que les propriétés optiques des échantillons ont un grand impact sur la cartographie PL, ce qui pourrait conduire à une conclusion erronée sur leur homogénéité. En revanche, les cartographies de durée de vie sont moins sujettes à des variations de paramètres optiques et au bruit provenant du processus de mesure, phénomènes qui ne sont pas intrinsèques à l'échantillon étudié.La nature différentielle de la mesure MPL est étudiée. Nous démontrons la notion de durée de vie à l'état stationnaire et de durée de vie différentielle. Nous analysons différents types de recombinaisons avec la durée de vie MPL et avons mis en œuvre des simulations des hétérojonctions a-Si:H/c-Si. Nous constatons que dans le domaine d'excitation intéressant pour le photovoltaïque, la durée de vie différentielle est souvent inférieure à la durée de vie à l'état stationnaire. Nous faisons aussi des comparaisons entre les durées de vie obtenues par mesures dites QSSPC et MPL et montrons qu'elles sont en fait égales.La combinaison des techniques de PL et de MPL nous a permis d'étudier le coefficient de recombinaison radiative en fonction de la température. Les résultats publiés jusqu'ici dans la littérature couvrent la plage de température de 300 K à 90 K. Dans cette plage, nos résultats sont en très bon accord avec ces résultats publiés précédemment. Mais, grâce à notre système de mesure et à la combinaison PL/MPL, nous avons obtenu des valeurs de ce coefficient jusqu’à 20 K et nous avons pu proposer une fonction polynômiale du cinquième degré qui permet de bien reproduire les variations en fonction de la température sur toute la plage de 20 K à 300 K.Dans une dernière partie de la thèse, les propriétés de transport de porteurs et l'effet de couplages sont étudiés dans des empilements de quantum dots. Nous avons examiné les quantum dots de InAs qui croissent de manière ordonnée en formant des chaînes à partir d'une couche tampon en InGaAs (couche dite de "cross hatch pattern"). Nous avons caractérisé par PL des monocouches ainsi que des multicouches empilées de chaînes de quantum dots. L'effet de couplage entre dots dans le plan est observé sur des échantillons de monocouches, et nous remarquons une inhibition du couplage vertical entre couches qui est expliqué par l'effet du champ de déformation de la couche de cross hatch pattern<br>Silicon solar cells remain the driving technology and dominate the photovoltaics market. Hydrogenated amorphous silicon/crystalline silicon (a-Si:H/c-Si) heterojunction cells achieve the best efficiency in silicon cells to date (25.6%). A great part of this achievement is assigned to the improvement of the passivation of the emitter/absorber interface. In that regard, luminescence techniques whether Photoluminescence (PL) or Modulated photoluminescence (MPL), are particularly appropriate to investigate surface defects and effective carrier lifetime.In this work, we developed a PL/MPL setup coupled to a helium cooled cryostat to the study of a-Si:H/c-Si heterojunctions. Considering the modulated nature of the MPL, we introduced the concept of steady state lifetime and differential lifetime. Through simulations, we analyzed different types of recombination mechanisms and found that the differential lifetime is lower than the steady state lifetime. We also benchmarked the lifetime determined by photoconductance decay measurements and the MPL lifetime and demonstrated that they are actually equal.We have analyzed various samples of a-Si:H/c-Si heterojunctions from multiple sources, particularly within the framework of the European project HERCULES (High Efficiency Rear Contact solar cells and Ultra powerful moduLES). The samples are composed of various doping and passivation layers such as AlOx, a-Si:H and a-SiC:H fabricated on high quality (n)c-Si wafers. The temperature dependent measurements show that the excess carrier lifetime decreases when temperature decreases, which is explained by the Shockley-Read-Hall recombination model at the heterojunction interface. The combination of PL and MPL measurements have enabled us to determine the radiative recombination coefficient in crystal silicon as a function of temperature. Our measurements have extended the original data to 20 K. We propose a fifth order polynomial of the radiative recombination coefficient as a function of temperature in the range of 20 to 300 K and it agrees very well to others’ work.We also investigated the possibility to extend the system to carry out PL and MPL mapping in order to extract the cell homogeneity and the lifetime distribution across the sample. We found that the optical property of sample has a significant impact on the PL mapping and could lead to incorrect conclusion with respect to the homogeneity. However the lifetime mapping from MPL produces imaging that is less prone to variation of optical properties.At last, we utilized the temperature dependent micro PL to investigate the coupling of InAs quantum dot chains (QDC) stacks grown on InGaAs cross hatch patterns separated with a 10 nm GaAs layer. The PL spectra are dominated by the top-most stack, indicating that the QDC layers are nominally uncoupled. However, under the high excitation power densities achievable with the micro PL system, when the high-energy peaks of the top stack are saturated, low-energy PL peaks from the bottom stacks emerge as a result of the carrier transfer across the GaAs spacers. These unique PL signatures contrast with the state-filling effects in conventional, coupled QD stacks and serve as a means to quickly assess the presence of electronic coupling in stacks of dissimilar-sized nanostructures

Beyond its functional roles, the prime coat is also responsible for the bonding between the asphaltic and the base layers, composing an asphalt coat-granular base interface. Although the importance of a strenght and stiff interface on pavement performance is well established in the literature, the bonding condition between the asphaltic and the base layers are oftentimes considered as i) perfectly bonded or ii) unbonded, despite the fact that it is known that these approaches are not coherent with the real interface mechanical behavior. To better understand this phenomenon and estimate stiffness and strength values for prime coat interface, it is proposed a mechanical model to describes and an experimental to assess interface mechanical parameters to be used in structural analysis. Prime coat interface is considered herein as a perfect elastoplastic material, which is also stress dependent and ruled by Mohr-Coulomb failure criteria. The results obtained suggest that the model and the proposed test are effective in represent and characterize the interface mechanical behavior. Model parameters were assessed from the test performed and used as input in a Finite Element Method analysis, by using interface finite elements developed in this research. The analysis results have shown that the interface studied in this research do not fail if only vertical field loads are considered. For this same situation and for the materials tested, interface parameters consideration was equivalent to consider the layers completely unbounded, suggesting that this specific interface performs an irrelevant structural role. Finally, the procedure proposed successfully answered the questions related to layer bonding conditions provided by the interface in asphaltic pavements. Nevertheless, it is necessary to perform more tests in order to guarantee more reliability to the conclusions obtained.<br>Imprimação é a aplicação betuminosa sobre a primeira camada granular subjacente ao revestimento asfáltico. Além de sua importância funcional, a imprimação também é responsável pela aderência entre a camada asfáltica e a base, compondo uma interface revestimento asfáltico-base granular. Embora a importância de uma interface rígida e resistente esteja bem estabelecida na literatura, a ligação entre estas camadas é comumente considerada como i) perfeitamente aderida ou ii) totalmente descolada, ainda que essas duas abordagens não sejam coerentes com o real comportamento mecânico da interface. Na realidade, observa-se uma condição de ligação intermediária em campo. Para melhor entender esse fenômeno e estimar valores de rigidez (módulo de reação transversal) e resistência (cisalhamento máximo) para a imprimação, são propostos nesta pesquisa um modelo mecânico que descreve a interface e um ensaio laboratorial capaz de extrair os parâmetros deste modelo para fins de utilização em análise estrutural. A interface revestimento asfáltico-base granular é considerada elastoplástica e dependente da tensão de compressão atuante sobre ela, utilizando o critério de falha Mohr-Coulomb. Os resultados indicam que o modelo e o ensaio propostos são eficazes em representar e caracterizar o comportamento mecânico da interface. Os parâmetros do modelo extraídos do ensaio foram inseridos em uma análise pelo Método dos Elementos Finitos, utilizando elementos de interface desenvolvidos no presente trabalho. A análise mostrou que a interface ensaiada nesta pesquisa não rompe quando apenas carregamentos verticais são considerados. Para esta mesma situação e para os materiais utilizados, a consideração dos parâmetros foi equivalente a considerar as camadas totalmente deslizantes, indicando que esta interface especificamente não tem relevância estrutural. Finalmente, o procedimento proposto obteve êxito em responder às questões relativas à consideração das condições de aderência providas pela interface de camadas em pavimentos asfálticos, entretanto, faz-se necessário um maior número de ensaios para garantir maior confiabilidade às conclusões extraídas da pesquisa.

Les travaux presentes dans ce memoire s'inscrivent dans le cadre de la conception d'interfaces pour objets complexes. Nous proposons une interface multimodale qui a pour vocation d'etre accessible a des utilisateurs non specialistes en facilitant la consultation d'objets complexes et documentaires. Dans un premier temps, nous avons defini un modele oriente objet adapte a la manipulation d'objets complexes. Il conserve la richesse structurelle des modeles a objets complexes, permet une manipulation d'objets via leur comportement, et offre une manipulation ensembliste des classes, grace a l'utilisation de methodes algebriques. La deuxieme partie de notre etude est consacree a la definition de l'interface. Nous proposons tout d'abord un mode d'interrogation graphique qui integre les concepts du modele oriente objet et utilise une approche hypertexte. Cette interface s'appuie sur deux principes. Le schema de la base d'objets est represente sous forme de graphes representant la semantique vehiculee a differents niveaux d'abstraction. La manipulation des objets et des classes est realisee graphiquement et se traduit par l'activation de methodes. En complement de cette interface graphique, nous proposons un deuxieme mode d'interrogation facilitant l'acces aux objets documentaires. A partir d'une requete exprimee en langage pseudo-naturel, le systeme restitue les objets documentaires juges pertinents, classes dans un ordre decroissant de ressemblance avec la requete. L'originalite de nos travaux reside dans le fait que les deux modes d'interrogation que nous avons decrits peuvent etre employes de facon complementaire pour la recherche d'objets complexes et documentaires

Le travail réalisé comprend une étude critique sur la structure de base des langages d'interrogation et leurs caractéristiques linguistiques (abrévation, vocabulaire et syntaxe). Une réflexion est faite sur les différents types d'utilisateurs pour comprendre les facteurs humains qui influencent leur comportement en face d'un système informatisé. A partir de là, nous avons défini l'utilisateur occasionnel visé par l'interface et un langage de commande (Lasydo) lui est adapté. Les caractéristiques de ce langage, ses fonctions et ses éléments sont discutés. Un traducteur ayant la structure de compilateur assure la transformation de la requête de l'usager en une forme acceptee par SGDB. Nous utilisons dans ce but un logiciel d'aide à l'écriture des traducteurs. La structure interne de Lasydo et celle de la base de données y sont prises en considération. Ce traducteur est défini et réalisé. Une étude synthétique et comparative sur les modèles de données à débouché sur la mise en oeuvre d'une base de données selon le modèle relationnel. En exploitant les propriétés de ce modèle, nous proposons deux schémas de la base, à relation unique et à relations multiples. Nous discutons la représentation de ces schémas sous forme de graphe extensible et nous décrivons le mécanisme de edéduction des chemins d'accès à l'information recherchée. Enfin, l'implantation de la base et de l'interface (modulaire et extensible) sous le système multics du HB68 est décrite<br>This survey deals with basic structure of query languages and their linguistic characteristics (i. E abbreviations, vocabulary and syntax). A part of the work carried out is about the different types of users in order to apprehend human factors influencing their behaviour when facing an automatized system. Next, the occasional user affected by the interface is defined and a command language (Lasydo) is adapted to him. The characteristics, functions and elements of this language are analysed here. A translator with a compiler structure realizes the transformations of the user's request into a form accepted by DBMS. For this purpose we use a software as a support to the writing of translator. It takes into account the internal structure of Lasydo and that of the data base. The translator is defined and realized. A comparative and synthetic study about data models has allowed the implementation of a database consistent with the relational model. By working out the properties of this model, we suggest two schemes for this base : a one-relational basis and multiple-relational basis. Moreover, we study the representation of these schemes as a dynamic graph ; and we express the deduction mechanism of the access path to the required information. Cette thèse s'inscrit dans le cadre de travaux sur l'interrogation d'une base de données orientée-objet multimedia. Nous avons défini une interface multimodale proposant à l'utilisateur trois modes d'interaction. Un mode dit graphique permet la navigation dans les données. Ce mode utilise des métaphores iconiques permettant la représentation des propriétés structurelles et dynamiques du schéma de la base. Dans cet environnement, on peut utiliser les composantes dynamiques avec ou sans argument. Enfin, un langage des requêtes graphique permet d'exprimer des requêtes simples. Deux modes, dits textuel et iconique, le complètent. Le premier permet la saisie de requêtes algébriques. Nous avons en effet proposé une algèbre adaptée au contexte de l'interrogation d'une base de données orientée-objet multimedia. Le second, par l'intermédiaire du langage iconique que nous avons conçu, assiste l'utilisateur dans la définition de requêtes complexes. Celui-ci se sert de requêtes iconiques pour définir des squelettes de requêtes algébriques complétables dans le mode textuel. De plus, nous avons donné des règles permettant un paraphrasage intelligent basé uniquement sur les informations contenues dans la métabase. Nous montrons notamment que, dans certains cas la requête iconique suffit à déterminer une requête algébrique complète.

There are significant problems during construction to establish an adequate foundation for fills and/or subgrade for pavements when the natural ground has low-bearing soils. Geosynthetics such as geogrids, geotextiles, and/or geocells could provide a less time-consuming, costly alternative for establishing an adequate foundation for the fill and/or subgrade. There is extensive evidence in the literature and on DOTs practices about the suitability of using geotextiles in pavements as separators. Previous studies have also shown that the use of geogrids in flexible pavements as a reinforcing mechanism could decrease the thickness of the base layer and/or increase the life of the pavement. In this study, analyses of selected pavement designs using Pavement ME—while considering geogrid-enhanced base or subgrade resilient modulus values—showed that geogrid-reinforcement, when placed at the interface between subgrade and base, did not produce significant benefits and only a modest increase in pavement life was predicted. In addition, parametric finite element analyses were carried out to investigate the potential benefits of placing a geogrid at the base of a fill over a localized weak foundation zone. The analyses showed that the use of geogrids is beneficial only when: (a) the stiffness of the weak foundation soil is about an order of magnitude smaller than the rest of the foundation soil; and (b) the horizontal extent of the weak foundation soil is at least 30% of the base of the embankment foundation. The largest decrease in differential settlements at the surface of the fill, resulting from geogrid-reinforcement, was less than 20% and, therefore, it is unlikely that the sole use of geogrids would be sufficient to mitigate differential settlements. Based on previous studies, a geocell mattress, which is a three-dimensional geosynthetic filled with different types of materials, could act as a stiff platform at the base of an embankment and bridge over weak zones in the foundation. However, given the limited experience in Indiana on the use of geocells, further research is required to demonstrate that geocells can be effectively used in place of other reinforcement methods.
