Abstract:
This paper demonstrates applications of LabVIEW in automatic test measurement of fiber optic system.First,the LabVIEW applications in fiber optic system and the basics of instrument connectivity are presented.Then,the aspects of hardware communication to external instruments through GPIB and serial interfaces are analyzed.Next,self-calibrating automated characterization system for depressed cladding applications is demonstrated utilizing the LabVIEW’s GPIB interface. Results of the manual and automatic measurements and the analysis of the measurement trace obtained from the optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) are shown.In the end,two applications of LabVIEW in fiber optic sensor system are discussed.

Abstract:
This paper proposed low cost instruments for wireless communication based on LabVIEW program. Conventional monitoring and controlling method using LabVIEW need several unique devices including data acquisition card (DAQ), RS232, wireless data acquisition (WDA), the serial and parallel interfaces which lead to expensive cost and complex system. This paper explains the new design of wireless interface devices which uses Wi-Fi USB, MCU board, and RS232 using LabVIEW to save cost. The objective is to develop low cost and easy tools for wireless monitor and interface. Five cases are considered including LED, traffic light, stepping motor, DC volt meter, and temperature data logger on the IEEE 802.11 standard. The experiment results show the developed programs which can remote instruments on a monitor accurately.

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to present a way to develop a technical e-laboratory for students interested in their continuing training. It presents hardware and software aspects regarding design of a LabVIEW-Based Soundcard Interface for E-Laboratory. To realize an e-learning laboratory we used web publishing tool from LabVIEW and the connection between server and remote computer is realized with a VPN software to pass through any router or a NAT device and realise a secure tunnel between remote computers and LabVIEW web-server. Also, the web publishing tool from LabVIEW allows concurrent access from different remote computers to e-laboratory. For example paper offers a LabVIEW application for acquisition and generation of signals using the sound card.

Abstract:
This paper introduces a novel approach to integrate IOT with an intelligent Industrial Load Management System. A virtual control system is designed to balance the supply of electricity on the network with the electrical load of an industry by recovering heat from hot chemical gases to produce electricity and by disconnecting the low priority loads automatically during power shortage periods. This approach takes advantages of the LabView’s better hardware support, rapid configuration, MATLAB’s ability to perform complex calculations and newer innovations helping in cheaper ways of realising internet connected devices. An intelligent power generating system which works on waste heat recovery mechanism comprising a boiler turbine system is modeled using MATLAB and a human machine interface is developed using LabVIEW. The system that is modeled in MATLAB can be simulated by LabVIEW Simulation Interface Toolkit (SIT) toolkit. The SIT provides a seamless integration between MATLAB/Simulink and LABVIEW.

FANUC industrial robots are used more and more widely. However, robots’ communicant protocol and interface are different and unopened. Robot interface technology has become an important factor. Controlling robot movement via interfere has become an important issue in recent years.NI LabVIEW has powerful data acquisition and measurement ability and friendly graphics programming interface. It has the most percentages in the field of automatic measurement. The interface between PC and FANUC industrial robot is studied. A serial of sub VI are developed based on LabVIEW, including connecting robot with PC, initializing robot interface, reading and changing system variables, reading and changing position variables, displaying current position, controlling robot programs and so on. This paper describes the hardware and software components of the system, and the typical communicant and control module between PC and FANUC robot developed by LabVIEW. After testing, the function of every module can be achieved and performs well.

The systerm also uses physical and chemical, biological and other repair method to repair contaminated soil. The use of LabVIEW graphical programming language to design PC man-machine interface looks simple and intuitive. Based on LabVlEW serial communication function, we develop the LabVIEW and PLC communication driver and achieve the real-time monitoring of the whole system ,which provides equipment and data support for the pollution of the soil.

Based on LabVIEW, this paper presents a design scheme of data acquisition, which it proposes using computer and ordinary data collection card as the main hardware and LabVIEW as software development platform, thus constructs the virtual instrument system for signal acquisition. The system can realize synchronous data acquisition of single channel or multi-channel signal, as well as real-time display and preservation. The practice shows that this scheme can not only effectively play performance of ordinary data acquisition card, but also reduce greatly program development time and beautify interface through LabVIEW which has powerfully visual human-machine interface editor and graphical programming function.

This paper analyzes the power quality measuring principles according to the national power quality indicator. And a power quality monitoring system based on LabVIEW has been designed. Five indexes are introduced simply in the paper. They are voltage deviation, frequency deviation, three-phase unbalance degree, power harmonic and voltage fluctuation and flicker. Virtual instrument technology is used in the system. Through the combination of software and hardware and with the help of software simulation, the system gets signal data and analyses the power quality. The main program interface has been shown. Simulation showed that the system is feasible. Compared with the traditional instruments, the system has a friendly man-machine interface and strong processing capacity. It can be operated simply and extended conveniently.

This paper presents “Craniux,” an open-access, open-source software framework for brain-machine interface (BMI) research. Developed in LabVIEW, a high-level graphical programming environment, Craniux offers both out-of-the-box functionality and a modular BMI software framework that is easily extendable. Specifically, it allows researchers to take advantage of multiple features inherent to the LabVIEW environment for on-the-fly data visualization, parallel processing, multithreading, and data saving. This paper introduces the basic features and system architecture of Craniux and describes the validation of the system under real-time BMI operation using simulated and real electrocorticographic (ECoG) signals. Our results indicate that Craniux is able to operate consistently in real time, enabling a seamless work flow to achieve brain control of cursor movement. The Craniux software framework is made available to the scientific research community to provide a LabVIEW-based BMI software platform for future BMI research and development.

LabVIEW and microcontroller can be integrated for the platform of ion concentration measurement, as well as the acquisition of sensing signal can be obtained via microcontroller. Moreover, the pCl and pH value can be separated in platform of ion concentration measurement. Besides, the platform of ion concentration measurement is measured in pCl2 standard solution, the results are between pCl1.83 and pCl2.08. Hence, the platform of ion concentration measurement has been successfully realized.

A type of antomatic controlling simulation system was introduced, which was built by taking LabVIEW as the software platform, using LabVIEW user interface interacting with the Simulink model. Simulation of processing often requires algorithm and performance evaluation of parallel environment. Signal processing often requires simultaneous acquisition of multi-channel analog signals. This system was composed of independently developed ECG Signal Acquisition Model, DAQ Signal Acquisition Card, and the LabVIEW Graphics System. Regarding the ECG Signal Acquisition Model, this system uses the TL082 Operational Amplifier to realize the amplification, and uses the Filter Circuits along with the ISO122 to isolate IC. Regarding the ECG oscillogram display and ECG Signal Acquisition, the LabVIEW Graphics System developed by the American company “National Instruments” (NI) was adopted. Also, the LabVIEW system and the DAQ signal acquisition card of the Data Acquisition Package developed by the NI Company was adopted as well.The DAQ signal acquisition card can engage in A/D, DI/O, number counting and time counting applications. At last, it can use the TCP/IP Protocol to send the ECG waveform data by the internet to the computers with remote surveillance monitors. The remote surveillance computers can be installed in the hospital. Professional doctors in the hospital can observe the patient’s ECG waveform data and statistics, and engage in the job of remote care.

The prototype electrical stimulator is based on the digital signal processor, and the drive stage of the previous model has also been improved by using a modified constant-current circuit. Moreover, we use LabVIEW to implement the man-machine interface and to develop a user-friendly toolbox. This system is versatile and feasible from the viewpoint of the hardware and software designs. With the virtual instrument in the toolbox, the man-machine interface is easy for users to implement and helpful in their further research. Furthermore, this toolbox includes many units and parameters, such as waveform types, currents, stimulation time, and others. The system can be considered a versatile and full-featured stimulator for various applications, with its high flexibility in stimulation patterns and multi-channel designs. The proposed system can produce suitable electrical stimulation by tuning the parameters in the interface. The procedure described above can also be implemented in man-machine interfaces for different research purposes.

A stepper motor control system is designed based on the stepper motor controller and EP2C5Q208C8. The control system of the host human-computer interaction interface is designed by LabView; through RS232 to communicate with the PC. According to the characteristic of the stepper motor control system , Verilog HDL language program and the software of QuartusII are used to simulate each function modules. The analysis of simulation results and experiment show that using the method of FPGA+LabView can simplify the complexity of the system design and possess a very high stability on the running status. The motor running status can be easily observed in the PC interface.

The use of NI OPC server as the software interface reached interoperability and communication. There were developed two field applications to test interoperability. This improvement show OPC server technology solves data compatibility issue between different driver controller’s and reducing development cost. Regardless of whether there are more than two different PLCs, it's enough to use the NI OPC server. So the benefit of the NI OPC server is not limited to two types of PLC used right now but can also use the other manufacturers. Besides, the improvement of the previous study is the use of the LabVIEW makes data from the OPC server displayed more realistic. The use of LabVIEW allows additional monitoring functions, one of which is LabVIEW vision. Data utilization becomes more flexible, and so it can use for more complex purposes. Due to not having full day water supply, households will have to efficiently manage the problem of water shortage and overcome the crises. This paper presents a system that indicates and controls the level of water in overhead tanks. Ultra-sonic sensors are employed to detect the level of the water between predefined minimum and maximum levels. LabVIEW which is a graphical programming language that uses a dataflow model is used to program microcontroller board Arduino UNO that is an interface between the software and the rest of the circuit components. From measured results good performance and accurate results are achieved.

SpaceFibre and SpaceWire are standard communication protocols for the latest technology sensor devices intended for on-board satellites and spacecrafts in general, especially for sensors based on image acquisition, such as scanning radiometers or star-tracking devices. The new design aims to provide the enabling tools to the scientific community and the space industry in order to promote the adoption of open standards in space on-board communications for current- and future-generation spacecraft missions. It is the first instrument expressly designed for LabVIEW users, and it offers tools and advanced features for the test and development of new SpaceFibre devices. In addition, it supports the previous SpaceWire standard and cross-communications. Thanks to novel cutting-edge design methods, the system complex architecture can be implemented on natively supported LabVIEW programmable devices. The presented system is highly customizable in terms of interface support and is provided with a companion LabVIEW application and LabVIEW Application Programming Interface (API) for user custom automated test-chains. It offers real-time capabilities and supports data rates up to 6.25 Gbps.The proposed solutions is then fairly compared with other currently available SpaceFibre test equipment. Its comprehensiveness and modularity make it suitable for either on-board device developments or spacecraft system integrations.

On-line detecting partial discharge inside GIS and locating the source of partial discharge spatially can discover the premonition of GIS insulation defects. This article introduces a system for partial discharge on-line detection and source locating, which is based on the hardware consisting essentially of ultrasonic sensors, prepositive signal amplifiers, a TDS3034C oscilloscope and a laptop. The system is a virtual instrument based on LabVIEW platform, and it can sample the ultrasonic signals generated by partial discharge in real time, and provide a friendly human-computer interaction interface. This article deeply discussed the partial discharge signal acquisition, signal de-noising, multi-way signal delay calculation and algorithm based on the time lag. The result implies that the system can validly detect and locate partial discharge, and spatially demonstrate the coordinate of the source of partial discharge through human-computer interaction interface.

The posture correction device consists of host computer and slave computer. Host computer is composed by graphical user interface (GUI) programmed by LabVIEW software in PC. Slave computer is composed of the C8051F340 processor with on-chip universal serial bus (USB) peripherals, three ultrasonic sensors HC-SR04 installed on the top, left, right side of the computer display measuring distance between user and PC, and humidity & temperature sensor DHT11. Through GUI and USB communication, host computer can get user instructions and connect and control the slave computer to finish the functions of calculating the distance between user and PC and collecting the humidity and temperature data. Experimental results show that the presented posture correction device has a humanized GUI and can be used expediently and easily.

The monitoring is achieved by making use of efficient virtual simulation (LabVIEW) which is directly interfaced with ATmega328 quartz crystal 16 MHZ microprocessor.Results: From the real time LabVIEW display, several weather parameters are monitored, in an attempt to maintain them below a certain required threshold. Conclusions: The results suggest a setup that makes the entire monitoring process cost effective and easy to operate due to its user friendly interface.

<p>One of the effective ways to diagnose various respiratory diseases is using spirometry test. Good spirometer comes with excellent graphical user interface. Spirometer is used to measure lung parameters such as Forced Expiratory Volume in the first second and the sixth seconds (FEV1 and FEV6). This paper presents an algorithm with Graphical User Interface (GUI) for characterization of respiratory conditions using LabVIEW Software. The whole spirometry system consists of a breathing circuitry with pressure sensor and a data acquisition board (NI sbRIO FPGA board). Results obtained from three different volunteers with different health performances are also presented in this paper. The FEV1/FEV6 ratio of a healthy volunteer is 81.1%, an asthma volunteer is 72.04%, and suspected bronchitis volunteer is 33.4%. Based on these results, the unhealthy volunteers tend to have smaller value of FEV1 with lower area under the curve when compared to healthy volunteer.</p>

In this study, a system of convection heat transfer in a rectangular duct is set up and connected with a data acquisition card and a computer serving for an advanced virtual laboratory aimed at supporting teaching and learning in Instrumentation and Control Engineering courses at Pathumwan Institute of Technology. The use of the virtual laboratory facilitates the ongoing evolution of the teaching method from a traditional didactic lecture and laboratory course to a more student-centered approach. The LabVIEW application is used to conduct several tasks including user interface design, publishing and sharing measured data, instrument control and remote access to a system in the Process Control Laboratory. Using LabVIEW software, students can familiarize the basic skills necessary to use equipment and software because the control systems in many industrial processes can be implemented on a computer which runs on LabVIEW.

In BACnet network, each device is modeled as a collection of network-accessible, data structure called “objects”.
