Abstract Follicular lymphomas are thought to arise from the follicle center B cells and are characterized by follicular structures that recapitulate many features of normal secondary lymphoid follicles. The neoplastic B cells of follicular lymphoma reside not only in follicles but also in the interfollicular zone in which they form a diffuse infiltrate. We have investigated the frequency, extent, and biological characteristics of this interfollicular component in 30 cases of follicular lymphoma. An interfollicular B-cell infiltrate of variable extent (minimal, moderate, or prominent) was prese

Interfollicular Hodgkin's lymphoma represents an unusual pattern of focal involvement of interfollicular zones by Hodgkin's lymphoma along with florid reactive follicular hyperplasia. It is often mistakenly diagnosed as a reactive change. We report a case of a 36 years old male with persistent lymphadenitis for three years, who was finally diagnosed as Interfollicular Hodgkin's lymphoma after being incorrectly diagnosed as reactive lymphadenitis. This case is reported in view of the unusual pattern of Hodgkin's lymphoma as well as its misdiagnosis as a benign lesion. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.

Background. BCC is currently the most common type of skin cancer in humans. Although having a low-grade malignancy and metastatic potential, BCC is locally aggressive and destructive. Despite numerous studies, the origin of BCC, whether arising from the follicular or interfollicular layer, remains controversial. Objectives. This study aims to evaluate whether BCC arises from the follicular or interfollicular layer by using immunohistochemical staining. Methods. Twenty-three specimens of superficial and nodular BCC at its very early stage were examined. The samples were immunohistochemically st

Crumbs is a transmembrane protein and apical determinant in Drosophila epithelial cells. Its cytoplasmic tail contains a PDZ and a FERM domain-binding site through which Crumbs interacts with the FERM proteins Yurt, Moesin and Expanded. Recent evidence suggests that Crumbs can also interact with the uncharacterised FERM proteins CG34347 and Cdep. The main objective of my thesis was to generate mutations in CG34347 and Cdep to facilitate the functional analysis of these genes. I generated a mutation for Cdep that remains to be characterised and two mutant lines for CG34347; one lacking the fi

Inflammatory diseases of the scalp can affect all epidermal surfaces or focus upon the follicle, with relative sparing of the interfollicular skin. Eczema and psoriasis are examples of the former; other diseases, such as lichen planopilaris or discoid lupus erythematosus, are examples of the latter. Introduction: Secretory carcinoma of the breast is a rare disease, accounting for approximately 0.15% of breast cancer cases. This entity was first described in a child in 1966. However, one of the largest case series with SEER data, encompassing a total of 190 patients, showed that the median age at diagnosis was 56 years, and it can affect both sexes, being much more common in women. In this same series, 58% and 40% of patients were positive for estrogen and progesterone hormone receptors, respectively. Most cases (86.86%) were well to moderately differentiated tumors without lymph node invo
