Abstract:
In this research we investigated how group power influences the way members of groups in asymmetrical conflict approach intergroup negotiations. Drawing on theories of negotiations and of intergroup power, we predicted that group power would interact with features of the proposed negotiating agenda to influence willingness to 'come to the table'. Based on the negotiation literature, we focused on two types of 'sequential' negotiation agendas: one beginning with the discussion of consequential issues before less consequential issues ('consequential first'), and one leaving the discussion of con

Abstract:
This thesis aims to investigate the secondary transfer effect of contact, a phenomenon whereby contact with one outgroup leads to improved attitudes towards other, non-contacted outgroups. While evidence mounts for the existence of secondary transfer effects, its underlying mediation processes remain poorly conceptualised and thus, poorly understood. Thus, in this thesis, I aimed to clarify the conditions under and the processes by which the secondary transfer effect works. Chapter 1 introduces intergroup contact theory and traces its development from the contact hypothesis (Allport, 1954) to

Abstract:
The project sought to deepen current understanding on how to overcome intractable conflicts. It equips intervening parties with knowledge to boost their efforts for greater results. Intractable conflicts are conflicts that stay for long and refuse to go even when the best available techniques are applied. At times, they last for decades. Given that a lot of methods have been repeatedly tried on them without success, the need for new techniques has been a priority. This work investigated what happens when a society in conflict and another experiencing peace come together. Using Denmark and Soma

Abstract:
The objective of this thesis was to examine the effectiveness of contact and imagined contact (a derivative of direct contact) in reducing intergroup prejudice when the prejudice in question is deemed socially acceptable. Studies focused on two populations that are targets of socially acceptable, prejudice – people suffering from schizophrenia in the U.K., and homosexual men in Jamaica. These target groups were selected because they are similar in that they are both targets of socially acceptable prejudice, but also because of their differences in that the stereotypes associated with them are
