Abstract:
Stained glass has attracted the attention of art critics and scientists for centuries. Stained glass art plays a special artistic role in decorating windows, doors, and ceilings. In addition to the traditional use of stained glass windows, they are used in the design of modern interiors. Although stained-glass windows are not a common design solution in interior design, they are increasingly used for their individualization in modern decoration. In the process of researching decorative decoration of modern interiors with the use of stained glass, new techniques and technologies of their implementation, compositional solutions, their color range were considered, and the main features of artistic expression were revealed. In modern interiors of residential premises, you can find stylized decorative and ornamental stylized stained-glass compositions, which are characterized by a linear division of the glass canvas with the use of faceted glass elements. With the help of stained glass windows, the space of the living room is filled with warm or cold, monochrome or polychrome colors, which enhances the visual perception of certain interior elements. Stained glass compositions using traditional and modern production technologies were analyzed and their role in modern interior design was determined.

Abstract:
With the further development of the social economy, people pay more attention to spiritual and cultural needs. As the main place of people’s daily life, the family is very important to the creation of its cultural atmosphere. In fact, China has fully entered the era of interior decoration, and people are paying more and more attention to decorative effects and the comfort and individual characteristics of decoration. Therefore, it is of practical significance to develop the application of decorative art in interior space design. However, the transfer effect of current interior decoration art design tends to be artistic, which leads to image distortion, and image content transfer errors are easy to occur in the process of transfer. The application of image style transfer in interior decoration art can effectively solve such problems. This paper analyzes the basic theory of image style transfer through image style transfer technology, Gram matrix, and Poisson image editing technology and designs images from several aspects such as image segmentation, content loss, enhanced style loss, and Poisson image editing constrained image spatial gradient. The application process of style transfer in interior decoration art realizes the application of image style transfer in interior decoration art. The experimental results show that the application of image style transmission in interior decoration art design can effectively avoid the contents of the interior decoration errors and distortions and has a good style transfer effect.

Abstract:
With the development of the national economy, the interior decoration work has received extensive attention, and the traditional decoration methods have been unable to meet its actual work needs. The application of mirror materials in interior decoration can not only enrich the technical methods of interior decoration, but also improve the decoration quality and comfort, so as to meet people’s growing decoration needs, achieving the purpose of promoting the sound development of interior decoration. Mirror material is one of the decorative materials widely used in modern indoor environment. It not only has decoration, but also can expand space. In recent years, the advent of the era of big data has promoted the reform of the design industry. Using big data thinking to assist the innovative design of furniture products will also become an important trend in the development of the furniture industry. According to the characteristics of customer demand in the era of big data, this paper designs and develops a set of customer demand analysis system based on big data by using cloud computing and big data mining technology. By collecting the behavior data of users when using products, this paper combines the mirror material with the manufacturing process of wooden furniture. The mining algorithm is applied to find out the improvement goal and direction of wood furniture manufacturing process based on mirror material, so as to enhance the competitiveness of furniture enterprises. The method proposed in this paper can obtain the furniture design elements according to the functional zoning and theme information and input the furniture design elements and zoning elements into the design element matching evaluation model to obtain the design matching element information.

Abstract:
Since the twenty-first century, with the improvement of China’s comprehensive national strength and cultural confidence, our country has paid more and more attention to the protection and development of Chinese traditional culture, and more and more attention to the protection and development of China’s traditional culture, traditional culture has no longer become a simple symbol in history books but has gradually entered people’s daily life with the characteristics of vitality and gradually evolved into various characteristics and forms and integrated into all walks of life. Under the background of the evolution of this culture, this paper discusses the application of Chinese decorative color for interior decoration design and puts forward an application model of Chinese decorative color for interior design based on the AlexNet network improved by Adam, BN, dropout, and data enhancement optimization algorithm. Through analysis, it is found that the AlexNet network improved based on the above optimization algorithm has a good application prospect for interior decoration design. For the traditional AlexNet network, the improved AlexNet network is obviously better than the traditional AlexNet network in color extraction and can greatly reduce the loss value in the process of color recognition, up to 70.77%. Finally, the application forms and decorative functions of Chinese decorative color elements based on the improved AlexNet network in interior decoration design are analyzed. Relevant research can not only promote the integration of new and new technologies into traditional art but also effectively carry forward Chinese traditional culture and promote the internationalization of Chinese color.

Abstract:
Because interior design is subject to inefficiency, more creativity is imperative. Due to the development of artificial intelligence diffusion models, the utilization of text descriptions for the generation of creative designs has become a novel method for solving the aforementioned problem. Herein, we build a unique interior decoration style dataset. Thus, we solve the problem pertaining to the need for datasets, propose a new loss function that considers the decoration style, and retrain the diffusion model using this dataset. The trained model learns interior design knowledge and can generate an interior design through text. The proposed method replaces the designer’s drawing with computer-generated creative design, thereby enhancing the design efficiency and creative generation. Specifically, the proposed diffusion model can generate interior design images of specific decoration styles and spatial functions end to end from text descriptions, and the generated designs are easy to modify. This novel and creative design method can efficiently generate various interior designs, promote the generation of creative designs, and enhance the design and decision-making efficiency.

Abstract:
This thesis argues that women were seminal to the development of interior design as a discipline and profession in Sydney, Australia. Covering the period from the 1920s to the 1960s, this study identifies Thea Proctor, Nora McDougall, Margaret Lord, Phyllis Shillito and Mary White as foundational leaders who progressively advanced interior design in Sydney through individual and collective understandings of design. Focussing on their contributions to this development, this study explains complex interrelationships between women and modernity in interior design. This emergence of the discipline and profession in Sydney situates the initiatives of these five women at a transitional phase of the field???s global development when ???interior decoration??? is challenged by modern attitudes and artistic theories of ???design???. Working as individuals, Proctor and her successors advance the profession???previously characterised as a ???natural??? pursuit for women of ???taste??? and ???style??????by their artistic, rational and practical approaches to interior design. At a time when no distinct discipline exists in Sydney, the women offer instruction and forge new directions by reformulating previous overseas traditions: incorporating a wide-range of aesthetic and theoretical conceptions of design, demonstrating common and different approaches to practice, and integrating changes in requisite knowledge and skills in response to their times. The women???s programs are conventional and progressive, common and diverse, universal and particular in content and meaning. Working within a variety of settings, the women importantly establish professional jurisdiction situating interior design in a modernist context. Significantly, their contributions challenge past readings that have diminished the early women of interior design, and at the same time, embody all the conflicts, ruptures, paradoxes and contradictions that are cental to modernity. This research redresses the lack of institutional history of interior design in Sydney and links theories of modernism and modernity to issues of gender and profession to explain the women???s significant contributions to interior design at a critical juncture of the field???s development. As such, their stories and legacy of design in Sydney contribute to a wider picture of women and modernity in interior design.

Abstract:
This creative project is a brief study of clay tile surface decoration, using commercial 4" x 4" and 6" x 6" tiles, as well as handmade slab-rolled and slumped molded forms. The exploration of surface decoration was based on historical research. An attempt was made to bring these findings into a contemporary personal statement. In my research I found a rich and varied history of clay tiles and their functional as well as decorative uses. Historically, tiles have been used on floors, walls, pillars, ceilings, pathways, rooftops, doorways, and fireplaces in architectural structures. In this project I have explored the use of clay tiles as decorative and functional elements for a countertop and tabletop, and as decorative elements of freestanding objects (boxes). I have also experimented with a non-traditional approach of tile making, using traditional materials, by changing the tiles' two-dimensional surface to a three-dimensional form.

Abstract:
AbstractThe design of the hotel’s interiors can help guests enhance their experience. Hotel interior design also directly affects the profitability and success of hotels in the hospitality industry. Therefore, it is considered important to maintain a high level of interior design of hotels in order to provide a destination of choice that satisfies guests and offers them unique amenities and experiences, while at the same time ensuring economic efficiency for the owners. The aim of this research is to develop a comprehensive pre-approach to tourists’ preferences for hotel furniture in Greece. The research was conducted by using convenience sampling of 340 tourists of hotel accommodation in various tourist areas in Greece. The results showed that, respondents’ satisfaction is influenced both by the hotel's decoration and the configuration of the rooms, while the existence of new technologies plays an important role for them, which positively influences their choice. There is a strong tendency to prefer wood as the main material of furniture construction, while most tourists claim that they wish to have elements of Greek culture and civilization in the furniture of Greek hotels. The research is expected to contribute further to the existing literature on this topic. Furthermore, the results can be particularly useful to hotel owners who wish to incorporate green practices in their hotels, or to use eco-friendly and smart furniture in their hotel equipment.

Abstract:
The fascination with oriental decorative and applied objects contributed to the emergence of a new artistic trend in European culture called chinoiserie. As a result of the synthesis of Chinese decorative iconography with European themes and motifs, the most diverse interpretations of Chinoiserie appeared in the interior decoration. Taking into account their wide variability, the author examines the most common artistic genres of chinoiserie in the architectural and decorative design of interiors with reference to Russian and French examples.

This creative experiment made it possible to create an innovative niche for the designer’s vision of the world of fashion and aesthetics, which leads to creative experiments, the introduction of innovative materials and technology into the process of manufacturing products. Such creative experiments are necessary to emphasize the peculiarity and individuality of the designer, as well as to reflect his innovation and style. A sketch project of eco-style products has been developed. A collection of interior products for decorating rooms made of paper vines has been produced. A collection of women’s clothing decorated with accessories and shoes in an eco-style was developed and produced from used non-typical materials for this segment of products.

Abstract:
The Sagamore Parkway Bridge consists of twin parallel bridges over the Wabash River in Lafayette, IN. The old steel-truss eastbound bridge was demolished in November 2016 and replaced by a new seven-span concrete bridge. The new bridge consists of two end-bents (bent 1 and bent 8) and six interior piers (pier 2 to pier 7) that are founded on closed-ended and open-ended driven pipe piles, respectively. During bridge construction, one of the bridge piers (pier 7) and its foundation elements were selected for instrumentation for monitoring the long-term response of the bridge to dead and live loads. The main goals of the project were (1) to compare the design bridge loads (dead and live loads) with the actual measured loads and (2) to study the transfer of the superstructure loads to the foundation and the load distribution among the piles in the group. This report presents in detail the site investigation data, the instrumentation schemes used for load and settlement measurements, and the response of the bridge pier and its foundation to dead and live loads at different stages during and after bridge construction. The measurement results include the load-settlement curves of the bridge pier and the piles supporting it, the load transferred from the bridge pier to its foundation, the bearing capacity of the pile cap, the load eccentricity, and the distribution of loads within the pier’s cross section and among the individual piles in the group. The measured dead and live loads are compared with those estimated in bridge design.

Abstract:
The Morganza Floodway and the Atchafalaya Basin, located in Louisiana west of the Mississippi River, were evaluated using a two-dimensional Adaptive Hydraulics model. Prior to this study, Phase 1 and 2 model studies were performed that indicated that the existing floodway may not be able to pass the Project Design Flood discharge of 600,000 cubic feet per second due to levee overtopping. In this study, all elevations of exterior and interior levees were updated with current crest elevations. In addition, the Phase 3 effort evaluated the sensitivity of the floodway’s flow capacity to variations in tree/vegetation density conditions. These adjustments in roughness will improve the understanding of the role of land cover characteristics in the simulated water surfaces. This study also provides a number of inundation maps corresponding to certain flows through the Morganza Control Structure.

Abstract:
As part of ARL’s Research Library Impact Framework initiative, the Marston Science Library (MSL) of the University of Florida (UF) George A. Smathers Libraries partnered with the UF Department of Interior Design (IND) to explore how research libraries facilitate innovation, creativity, and problem-solving competencies among their patrons. The MSL-IND team explored a three-tiered hypothesis that included: (1) students’ use of library spaces can contribute to building knowledge and practical applications for library space renovations; (2) student perceptions of space desirability as measured by the Place-based Semantic Differential can be used to indicate gaps in the library space facilitation of creativity; and (3) the creative thought process requires spaces that are diverse, flexible, and under a certain amount of student control. The research team developed a mixed-method study that included a spatial analysis, a survey utilizing an adjective checklist, and several focus groups designed to validate the adjective checklist. The research team analysis of the resulting data identified recommendations related to creating a sense of place, solving for the group by addressing the individual, offering a palette of posture, increasing biophilia, and offering choice and control.

Chehab, Ghassan. Effectiveness and External Noise of Transverse Rumble Strip Designs. Illinois Center for Transportation, June 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.36501/0197-9191/22-009.

Full text
Abstract:
The report presents a case study motivated by comments and concerns from residents regarding high levels of noise originating from vehicles passing transverse rumble strips at the intersection of US-41 northbound and West Park Avenue in Highland Park, Illinois. The Illinois Department of Transportation seeks to reduce the exterior noise the rumble strips generate without compromising the safety they deliver. A review of the latest literature on the topic and state of practice by other state departments of transportation revealed the absence of an existing standard that mandates specific designs and, thus, lack of consistency among the agencies on a configuration that could be followed. To decide whether changes to the existing design are appropriate, a performance comparison with other candidate designs needs to be conducted. To that end, measurements of exterior noise levels at the rumble strips on US-41 and at the adjacent neighborhood were collected in the presence of continuous flow of traffic. The collected measurements serve as a baseline for comparison with noise emanating from modified or new transverse rumble strip designs that would be investigated for possible implementation in the future. Similar measurements were conducted for interior noise in a vehicle passing over the rumble strips at different speeds to study their effectiveness in alerting drivers of cautions ahead.

Abstract:
This report outlines the development of earthquake damage functions and comparative loss metrics for single-family wood-frame buildings with and without seismic retrofit of vulnerable cripple wall and stem wall conditions. The underlying goal of the study is to quantify the benefits of the seismic retrofit in terms of reduced earthquake damage and repair or reconstruction costs. The earthquake damage and economic losses are evaluated based on the FEMA P-58 methodology, which incorporates detailed building information and analyses to characterize the seismic hazard, structural response, earthquake damage, and repair/reconstruction costs. The analyses are informed by and include information from other working groups of the Project to: (1) summarize past research on performance of wood-frame houses; (2) identify construction features to characterize alternative variants of wood-frame houses; (3) characterize earthquake hazard and ground motions in California; (4) conduct laboratory tests of cripple wall panels, wood-frame wall subassemblies and sill anchorages; and (5) validate the component loss models with data from insurance claims adjustors. Damage functions are developed for a set of wood-frame building variants that are distinguished by the number of stories (one- versus two-story), era (age) of construction, interior wall and ceiling materials, exterior cladding material, and height of the cripple walls. The variant houses are evaluated using seismic hazard information and ground motions for several California locations, which were chosen to represent the range seismicity conditions and retrofit design classifications outlined in the FEMA P-1100 guidelines for seismic retrofit. The resulting loss models for the Index Building variants are expressed in terms of three outputs: Mean Loss Curves (damage functions), relating expected loss (repair cost) to ground-motion shaking intensity, Expected Annual Loss, describing the expected (mean) loss at a specific building location due to the risk of earthquake damage, calculated on an annualized basis, and Expected RC250 Loss, which is the cost of repairing damage due to earthquake ground shaking with a return period of 250 years (20% chance of exceedance in 50 years). The loss curves demonstrate the effect of seismic retrofit by comparing losses in the existing (unretrofitted) and retrofitted condition across a range of seismic intensities. The general findings and observations demonstrate: (1) cripple walls in houses with exterior wood siding are more vulnerable than ones with stucco siding to collapse and damage; (2) older pre-1945 houses with plaster on wood lath interior walls are more susceptible to damage and losses than more recent houses with gypsum wallboard interiors; (3) two-story houses are more vulnerable than one-story houses; (4) taller (e.g., 6-ft-tall) cripple walls are generally less vulnerable to damage and collapse than shorter (e.g., 2-ft-tall) cripple walls; (5) houses with deficient stem wall connections are generally observed to be less vulnerable to earthquake damage than equivalent unretrofitted cripple walls with the same superstructure; and (6) the overall risk of losses and the benefits of cripple wall retrofit are larger for sites with higher seismicity. As summarized in the report, seismic retrofit of unbraced cripple walls can significantly reduce the risk of earthquake damage and repair costs, with reductions in Expected RC250 Loss risk of up to 50% of the house replacement value for an older house with wood-frame siding at locations of high seismicity. In addition to the reduction in repair cost risk, the seismic retrofit has an important additional benefit to reduce the risk of major damage that can displace residents from their house for many months.
