Abstract:
In such a high population density society as China, especially in developed cities, the real estate market needs a concept of micro-housing. Working people in big cities like Beijing and Shanghai spend very little time at home while working and socializing outside the home every day. High-density population cities need to meet the living needs of as many people as possible in a limited area. If we can solve this problem the demand for houses will decrease and prices will fall. And tiny buildings can also reduce greenhouse gas emissions. (Statistics show that residential, commercial, and industrial buildings account for 40 percent of greenhouse gas emissions.) The ecological benefits of micro buildings extend beyond the house itself. Micro buildings not only increase the density of housing, so that more people have a home, but also shorten the time of transportation. After consulting a large number of literatures, this study hopes to summarize the existing literatures and find the best way for micro buildings to meet the needs of more people in high-density population cities. In this study, conclude some interior design methods or techniques to find out how to improve the quality of small space design. We search and review information in three different fields: indoor thermal comfort, human-based furniture, and interior lighting design. The paper presents some techniques including thermal control equipment and a day-light prediction system. Different human-based furniture is divided into various types, we analyse their advantages and disadvantages, leading to the small interior space to find how can they be used to improve human’s feeling. We discuss the possibility that designers enhance people’s life in a big city by using indoor designing ways.

Abstract:
The purpose is to determine the peculiarities of optical illusions usage in interior design. Methodology. The study uses the methods of analysis and systematization of the collected literary and illustrative material, as well as the method of comparative analysis. Results. The paper analyzes the optical illusions used in interior design, namely: art-mimicry, distortion, anamorphosis, art-pareidolia, pseudo gipnosis, ephemeralization, and anti-gravity. Based on the analysis, it is determined that the use of optical illusions in interiors can be conditionally divided into two types in terms of intensity: intense (pronounced illusion) and restrained (weak illusion). According to the types of intensity, the specifics of the use of optical illusions in public and residential interiors are identified. Here are some examples of how these types are used in interior design. It has been determined that art-mimicry, distortion, anamorphosis, ephemerisation and anti-gravity can be effectively used in public interiors. At the same time, in residential interiors there are examples of intensive use of only three optical illusions: distortion, anamorphosis and ephemerisation. Also, the analysis shows that the restrained use of all the considered optical illusions can be applied in the design of both residential and public interiors. The scientific novelty of the research is to analyze optical illusions and to determine the peculiarities of their use in interior design. Practical significance. The results of the study can be used to conduct interior design using optical illusions. The results may also form the basis for further scientific research, namely, to develop recommendations for the use of optical illusions in interior spaces

Abstract:
This article summarizes findings from a national survey of interior design practitioners in the United States (N=366). The study explored interior design practitioners' current preferences for conducting project research including: activities conducted and sources used, attraction to and recall from sources, and ideas for communicating research findings. Responses suggest that interior designers do value research, yet have little time to utilize research. While cross-tabulation analyses indicate no major differences in research activities between the study’s demographic groups, collectively, only 12% of the sample indicated they utilized academic journals and, at times, even incorrectly identified those sources. Open-ended responses allowed designers to offer ideas for communicating research and four key themes emerged, including: topic selection and relevancy, ideas for new dissemination methods, ideas for presentation style, and perceptions of the written language used. It is hoped that this study’s findings may help design researchers better communicate their own findings to design practitioners.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to examine the concept and practice of green building for office interiors: whether the green intent can be effectively implemented in an interior retrofitting project. Design/methodology/approach Reviewing green building rating systems for interiors, examining certified interior projects and interviewing occupants working in certified green offices. Findings The green building credits for interiors fall into three relational layers: the urban context, the host building and interior fit-outs. Most projects under study performed well on credits for interior fit-outs (e.g. low emitting materials, energy efficient equipment and appliances, etc.), while underperformed on credits for its host building (e.g. air-conditioning systems, ventilation, etc.). The latter might more significantly affect working experience. The other important green aspects, such as daylight availability, facilities accessibility, might be subject to its location and urban context. Research limitations/implications This article presents a multi-examination of green interiors. The data came from second-hand Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design scorecards and qualitative interviews. More quantitative surveys are expected to be conducted. Practical implications Green interior retrofitting should go beyond selecting environmental-friendly finishes and furniture or resource-efficient fixtures and appliances. It should proactively start from assessing the environmental performance of the host building and its urban context. Originality/value Most research looked at green building as a whole. Green interiors are actually more practical for tenants who intend to reduce their corporate environmental impacts, whereas they do not have control over whole building design and operations. This article highlights the importance of green interior retrofitting and provides guidance.

Abstract:
Design ideas are characterized by being able to develop and strive to find the best and most beautiful in terms of functionality and its integration and in terms of compatibility and harmony with what the performance use requires in terms of effectiveness reflected on the user, and here the sources of the idea are identical with what corresponds to the materials and materials being means that achieve comfort and good feeling, with Taking into consideration the technical fields and the wide availability of possibilities to achieve the accomplishments of the idea, regardless of the complexity and simplification required in any of the joints of the creative process in the internal spaces. On this basis, the question came to the research problem, which is: What is the importance of the design idea data and how to obtain innovative and unconventional design solutions in contemporary interior spaces. The current research aims to reveal the data of the design idea in the contemporary interior spaces of cultural centers. The theoretical framework included the meaning of the idea, its concept, and its most important data. We have adopted the descriptive approach in the research, reaching the analysis that includes studying the data of the design idea in the contemporary interior spaces of the international cultural centers of architectural designs, Zaha Hadid. The researcher, Dongdaemun Bla, Cultural Center in South Korea has been approved by the research community, represented by three international cultural centers. The most important conclusions are: 1- Creativity is a mental process, the foundations for the process of realizing gaps and missing elements and creating ideas, through which the interior designer goes through with the aim of producing new ideas in the design of contemporary interior spaces. 2- The design idea went in directions completely different from the traditional aspects based on the level of activation of aesthetic reflections, through its reliance on hybrid design relationships with an exotic and inspirational characteristic that diverges from the previous design system.

Abstract:
Purpose This purpose of this paper is to promote the potential for utilizing interior designers as partners on multidisciplinary teams that deal with natural disaster recovery efforts. Interior design, an often-misunderstood profession, focuses on the health, safety and welfare of all who utilize interior spaces. Members of this profession bring a unique and relevant perspective to design and problem-solving. Design/methodology/approach A self-selecting international student design call supplied the data for illustrating how interior designers’ training prepares these multifaceted professionals to practice within diverse cultural contexts to create region-specific temporary housing units. Findings The designs submitted indeed, demonstrated an understanding of the holistic process necessary for creating effective temporary shelters. Research limitations/implications A limitation of the research is that the design call involved interior design students only. A broader invitation might also solicit entries from practicing interior design professionals. Originality/value The acknowledgement traditionally accorded interior designers as essential contributors to multidisciplinary disaster relief teams is tenuous at best. This paper suggests that interior designers have the potential to assume an important role in disaster relief planning and shelter creation. Attention must now be directed toward promoting a universal appreciation of the relevant skills training, and holistic perspectives of interior designers.

Abstract:
Sustainable design looks at the environmental, social and economic categories in interactions that deliver significant environmental and health solutions. Common trends in society show that sustainable thinking has not yet become a way of life and is fragmented. This justifies the need for both future and existing professionals – architects and environmental / interior designers – to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills in designing and evaluating projects in aspects of sustainability that are related to public health and well-being. The aim of the article is to determine the criteria for the evaluation of sustainable design, which should be taken into account during the development and implementation of the interior design project. Research methods – theoretical – research and analysis of scientific literature.

Abstract:
Abstract The creation of interior spaces is the main cognitive characteristic of architectural creation. Architecture creates a basic spatial framework for the interior. Interior design is a complex type of architectural activity that forms both the space (basically the interior) and the individual elements of the interior space. The professional interior design of architects or designers intentionally creates an environment specifically intended for human life. It is where people are in the most personal contact with the environment surrounding them. Just as an artificially created environment has a strong influence on a person’s life and feelings, it has also been proven that it works the other way round as well, i.e. that human needs and demands are a decisive factor in creating space for a person. The case studies demonstrate the development of the interior design in the second half of the 20th century, its current state and level of care given to these works. Architecture from this period has often lost its struggle for survival. As regards the style, these are works in international style, late modern and postmodern, and the local element makes them a unique and attractive testimony to the era. Despite the natural properties of interiors which seldom survive as long as the architecture itself, some contemporary statements about the interior design of the period under review have been preserved. The research focused on the public interiors of both well-known and less-known buildings by Slovak architects from various parts of Slovakia. The research calls attention to the fact that architects worked here even then and their works were of certain quality.

Abstract:
Augmented reality has a high potential in interior design due to its capability of visualizing numerous prospective designs directly in a target room. In this paper, we present our research on utilization of augmented reality for interactive and personalized furnishing. We propose a new algorithm for automated interior design which generates sensible and personalized furniture configurations. This algorithm is combined with mobile augmented reality system to provide a user with an interactive interior design try-out tool. Personalized design is achieved via a recommender system which uses user preferences and room data as input. We conducted three user studies to explore different aspects of our research. The first study investigated the user preference between augmented reality and on-screen visualization for interactive interior design. In the second user study, we studied the user preference between our algorithm for automated interior design and optimization-based algorithm. Finally, the third study evaluated the probability of sensible design generation by the compared algorithms. The main outcome of our research suggests that augmented reality is viable technology for interactive home furnishing.
