Full textThe current market and the status of international beer brands and their performance on the Social Network Instagram were analyzed in depth in the present research paper. Specifically, it analyzed what social media marketing activities related to the purchase intention of young limeños (people from Lima, Perú) between the ages of 18 and 24 belonging to a socio-economic sector A and B. These activities analyzed were content, interaction, community, information, and customization. Based on marketing activities on Instagram and the intention to purchase, the objectives and hypotheses of the research were raised, where it was sought to confirm whether there was a relationship between each activity raised and the intention to purchase. To deepen this research, several interviews, focus group and surveys were conducted on consumers and experts. So, we were able to know more closely the thoughts that the target audience has regarding the management or management of Instagram that have the different brands of international beers that are presented in Peru. It is concluded, after qualitative and quantitative analysis, that activities such as content, community, interaction and personalization (customization) have a relationship with the intention to purchase or re-purchase of our interviewees and respondents. On the contrary, the information proved unrelated to the intent to purchase. Based on this, some comments were made that could help brands improve their performance on Instagram.

The beef industry is a very important in the food sector of agriculture and over the past two decades the United States beef industry has faced many challenges. Over time the distribution of beef exports have changed due to food safety issues and government policies, not just in the U.S., but on a global scale forcing U.S. beef producers to diversify their export outputs to other countries that were not previously strong leaders in the export business. The U.S. must be strategic in their production decisions in order to continue to compete on a global level to avoid significant loss during adverse conditions. One of the major challenges that the U.S. industry has faced is the discovery of BSE in late 2003 in the state of Washington, which led to the closing of many borders to countries who had a significant impact on the beef industry in the U.S. Since U.S. beef is highly regarded by consumers for its quality worldwide, it is important to understand what changes have taken place in the past to have a full understanding of what changes need to be made in the future. The objective of this thesis is to look at how the distribution of the value, volume and price of U.S. beef exports have changed over the past two decades. By looking at how this has changed we will be able to see what countries are emerging as important customers and how others have declined. This is extremely important since some of the major importing countries have changed or put restrictions on the U.S. beef industry over the past two decades and the industry needs to understand these changes so that they can remain strong in the export sector. By analyzing the global trends of U.S. beef exports by value, volume and price across principal regions of the world, research will show us how to change for future changes. By assessing the effect of the discovery of BSE in the U.S on changes in the distribution of beef exports across the global regions, research will show who emerged when other countries declined. By using this research, the foregoing results will be helpful to inform the industry on what export market strategy can be developed for the U.S. beef industry. The results suggest that BSE had some negative effect on the U.S. beef industry in terms of the value and volume but did not have an impact on the price per pound of beef. Some regions had a larger impact than others when BSE was discovered, such as East Asia, but during this other regions, such as North America, came through and became the leaders in exports for U.S. beef. While there was some growth from the Rest of the World, there was not enough of an impact to compete with the foregoing countries.

Full textCross-national differences in regulation have become the most significant barrier to international trade. My dissertation attempts to explain why states sometimes choose to reduce these regulatory trade barriers but at other times choose to maintain or increase them. To do this, I examine the international negotiation over regulatory trade barriers in three in-depth case studies, one from each of the three main areas of the international trade in goods: manufacturing, agriculture, and high-technology. The first investigates consumer safety, labor-related domestic content, and environmental regulations in the trade in automobiles in North America and the European Union. The second analyzes mad-cow safety regulations and the trade in beef between the United States and Japan. The third examines intellectual property regulations and the trade in pharmaceuticals between the United States and India. I contend that the best way to explain this variation is by examining the motivations of three sets of actors (businesses, activists, and government officials) and the political bargaining between those three groups. Businesses seek to reduce regulatory barriers when those barriers raise production costs or inhibit market access. They may however choose to end that pursuit if those regulations are cheap to comply with or pursuing their reduction carries major reputational risk. Activists defend regulatory barriers when they perceive those regulations to be the sole effective means to address a societal problem they are concerned about. They may accept a reduction in regulatory barriers if those barriers have low salience or their opposition is bought out through private standards, corporate social responsibility, or some other arrangement in which businesses are not directly regulated by government. Government officials choose whether to side with businesses or activist groups based on their relative prioritization of trade and regulatory independence, their staffing, and whom they identify as their core constituency. Businesses are likely to succeed at reducing a regulatory trade barrier when they can link their desire for that reduction with broader concerns about economic competitiveness while activist organizations are likely to succeed at defending regulatory trade barriers when they can link their desire for maintaining or increasing that barrier with preventing needless death. This dissertation thus adds to the current understanding of international political economy by demonstrating that multinational corporations have less political power than is commonly assumed and by augmenting traditional explanations of trade politics based on economic cleavages through analyzing activists’ engagement in trade politics now that trade politics significantly affects regulations

Full textDoes war still exist according to international law? On the one hand, the answer is obviously in the affirmative - hostilities including the use of force between states do take place and rules of international law regulating them do exist. Less obvious, however, is whether a state of war as a condition creating legal consequences not only for the parties involved, but also for other states, is still legally relevant. While there have been many conflicts since 1945, few of them have been characterized as “war” and no declarations of war have been made. Hence, there is a tendency to avoid the term “war” on the ground that it is “arcane” and largely superseded by the term “international armed conflict”. Moreover, it has been claimed that a state of war is incompatible with the UN Charter and therefore can no longer exist under international law so that a qualification of a conflict as “war” as opposed to “armed conflict” would have no legal consequences. This dissertation will examine whether the concept of war is still relevant and necessary despite the introduction of the modern concept of international armed conflict. In the course of answering it, three further questions need to be posed. First, is it compatible with the UN Charter to continue to invoke the concept of “war”? Second, what are the consequences of recognizing a state of war as a contemporary legal concept? Finally, are there any norms in international law which are applicable in a state of war only?
