Abstract:
This article presents the results of the first implementation of map literacy learning model in middle school classes - this is the preliminary test. The implementation of this learning model will gain optimal results when it is conducted by following all the component of the model such as the syntax, theoretical framework, social system, teachers' roles, and support system. After the model implementation has been completed, the results showed that there was significantly different in students' spatial thinking skills before and after the treatment. However, the implementation also revealed that the model has some technical issues and thus to be improved. In a social system revision, the teacher has to be flexibly provide scaffolding every time he/she sees that the students need it. Teacher's book is significantly important to help a teacher lead the learning process. After improvement of the model has been completed, then it is ready to be implemented in the main field testing stage. Abstract:
Abstract. Determination of radon concentrations in dwelling in Aceh region by using a passive method has been conducted. In this research, area considered was divided into several sections called grid. Each grid represents an area of 60 km x 60 km in which, depend on public response, 6-10 passive radon monitors were installed. The number of passive radon monitors installed in Aceh is 200 units, and they can be taken back as many as 191 units or 95.50 %. The passive radon monitors have stayed in dwelling for 3-4 months and after period of the exposure, those radon monitors were taken back and brought to laboratory for further process, and then the track were read and the radon concentrations were calculated. Furthermore, data of radon concentration in dwelling and GPS location were put into MapInfo Software v.10.5 to create a map of radon concentration. The results of the analysis of the radon concentration in dwelling in Aceh demonstrate that the concentrations are in the range of 3.32 ± 0.23 Bq/m3 up to 68.30 ± 4.83 Bq/m3. This result was lower than the radon reference level determined by UNSCEAR, which was 300 Bq/m3. The data are useful in the regional extension and development plans, as well as the basis for health policy analysis due to the existence of radon in Indonesia. Furthermore, these data will become the contribution of Indonesia in the international world through UNSCEAR, IAEA and WHO. The data obtained can be used as partial data in creating a map of radon concentration in residents’ houses in Aceh, as a part of the map of radon concentration in Indonesia. Abstract:
However, with all the prerequisites for the development of tourism, Ukraine did not pay due attention to the development of this sector of economy. Due to this situation, the problem of increasing the tourist attractiveness of the territory remains urgent. Having an important potential of natural resources, historical and cultural monuments, considering the great importance of the tourism industry, it has been declared one of the priority directions of development of the national economy at the state level in Ukraine. Among Ukrainian scientists, the development of tourist infrastructure was studied by A. A. Beidik, M. P. Malskaya, A. T. Makarov, F. Kifiak, A. A. Lubitseva, S. P. Kuzyk, I. M. School. Certain infrastructure elements of the tourist and recreational complex of the Kiev region are analyzed in the works of L. M. Volovik, V. L. Glibovets, A. M. Poltavets, S. V. Rogovsky, etc. Pereiaslav-Khmelnitsky district is a territory of historical land, which is located in the eastern part of the Kiev region. It played a great importance in the processes of formation of Ukrainian nationality and state. This land was a source of inspiration for Taras Shevchenko himself and other outstanding heroes of Ukraine. It is over-saturated with both sad and joyful big events. Pereiaslav-Khmelnitsky district, without exaggeration, can be called a unique place on the map of our country. The purpose of the study is to assess tourist resources and develop the tourist infrastructure of Pereiaslav-Khmelnitsky district, to determine its role in creating the basis for the economic growth of the district as a whole and to improve the tourism sector in particular. The study of this problem is based on general scientific methods of knowledge of economic phenomena and processes (analysis and synthesis, system approach, dialectical method, etc.). It was revealed the conditions of formation and the current state of formation of tourist infrastructure in Kyiv region, in particular in Pereiaslav-Khmelnitsky district. It was made the comparison of the state of its components (communication network, accommodation establishments, and mass catering establishments). Without exaggeration, Pereiaslav-Khmelnitsky district can be called a unique place on the map of our country. Today, there are 51 settlements, 15 objects of nature reserve fund of Ukraine, among which is a park-monument of landscape art of a national importance «Tashanskyi» and National natural park «Biloozerskyi», and there are more than 10 large and small rivers and hundreds of potential tourist sites that need to be preserved, promoted and attracted by tourists. It was highlighted the key advantages inherent in the tourism infrastructure of Kyiv region. The value of material and technical base and tourism infrastructure has been established as a determining factor for increasing the tourist attractiveness of Pereiaslav-Khmelnitsky district. The main reasons for hindering the development of the tourist services market in Pereiaslav-Khmelnitsky district are: the imperfection of the system of state regulation of tourist activity; the low level of investments in the development of the material base of tourism; the inconsistency of tourist establishments with international standards; the insufficient provision of the tourism industry by qualified specialists; the extremely unsatisfactory condition of transport infrastructure; the low awareness of potential consumers of the tourism product. It was highlighted the main problems in the formation and promotion of tourism products of the district, as well as the problems of development of existing tourism potential, which is certainly one of the richest in Ukraine. It was offered the directions of development of tourist infrastructure market in Pereiaslav-Khmelnitsky district and activation of using of tourist potential in the area.

Abstract:
Many multiple access techniques have been proposed and demonstrated to provide flexible solutions for FTTH network configurations. The performance of this system suffers because of the correlation properties that contribute to a high level of Multiple Access Interference (MAI), low system capacity (users), and lower transmission rate. In this paper, we have proposed Optical CDMA (OCDMA) as a configuration solution for FTTH networks to improve the performance of this type of network. Full Text: PDF References. Z. Mateusz, M. Abstract:
Abstract Objectives The objectives of the study were to 1) develop an EED score using fecal host mRNA transcripts, 2) compare three EED biomarkers, and 3) examine associations between EED biomarkers and growth outcomes and recovery from MAM. Methods In a study nested within a supplementary feeding program for children 6–59 months of age with MAM in Sierra Leone, EED was assessed in all children enrolled using: 1) lactulose: mannitol (L: M) test (n = 422), 2) fifteen host fecal mRNA transcripts (n = 441), and 3) host fecal proteins [alpha-1-anti trypsin (AAT), myeloperoxidase (MPO), neopterin (NEO)] (n = 200). Data were also collected on anthropometry and z scores computed for length-for-age (LAZ), and weight-for-length (WLZ). Length and weight gain were assessed over 2 weeks and recovery from MAM was defined as mid-upper arm circumference ≥12.5 cm. Factor analysis was used to identify EED scores using the mRNA transcripts and mixed effects regression was conducted to test for associations. Results The fifteen host fecal mRNA transcripts clustered into three scores using factor analysis (Eigen value >1). These were termed the Gut Inflammation (GI) score (Eigen value = 5.55), Gut Structure (GS) score (Eigen value = 2.48), and Gut Defense (GD) score (Eigen value = 2.22). We found agreement between the GI score and MPO (P < 0.001), the GS score and AAT (P = 0.001), and between AAT and L: M excretion ratio (P = 0.036). The GD score was negatively associated with %L (P < 0.001). A lower LAZ was associated with higher inflammation (GI score, P = 0.014). A lower length gain was associated with higher permeability (AAT, P = 0.001). A lower WLZ was associated with higher inflammation (GI score, P = 0.021) and higher permeability (GS score, P = 0.002). A lower weight gain was associated with lower gut defense (GD score, P = 0.044) and higher inflammation (MPO, P = 0.002). High gut defense (GD score, P = 0.011) and low permeability (AAT, P = 0.007) predicted recovery from MAM. Conclusions Fifteen mRNA transcripts clustered into three scores with clusters reflecting inflammation, permeability and gut defense. These were variably correlated with the L: M test and host fecal proteins but seemed to measure the same characteristics of EED. Markers of inflammation, permeability, and gut defense were associated with growth outcomes, and predicted recovery from MAM. Funding Sources U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract. Spatially-explicit maps of aboveground biomass are essential for calculating the losses and gains in forest carbon at a regional to national level. The production of such maps across wide areas will become increasingly necessary as international efforts to protect primary forests, such as the REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation) mechanism, come into effect, alongside their use for management and research more generally. However, mapping biomass over high-biomass tropical forest is challenging as (1) direct regressions with optical and radar data saturate, (2) much of the tropics is persistently cloud-covered, reducing the availability of optical data, (3) many regions include steep topography, making the use of radar data complex, (4) while LiDAR data does not suffer from saturation, expensive aircraft-derived data are necessary for complete coverage. We present a solution to the problems, using a combination of terrain-corrected L-band radar data (ALOS PALSAR), spaceborne LiDAR data (ICESat GLAS) and ground-based data. We map Gabon's Lopé National Park (5000 km2) because it includes a range of vegetation types from savanna to closed-canopy tropical forest, is topographically complex, has no recent cloud-free high-resolution optical data, and the dense forest is above the saturation point for radar. Our 100 m resolution biomass map is derived from fusing spaceborne LiDAR (7142 ICESat GLAS footprints), 96 ground-based plots (average size 0.8 ha) and an unsupervised classification of terrain-corrected ALOS PALSAR radar data, from which we derive the aboveground biomass stocks of the park to be 78 Tg C (173 Mg C ha−1). This value is consistent with our field data average of 181 Mg C ha−1, from the field plots measured in 2009 covering a total of 78 ha, and which are independent as they were not used for the GLAS-biomass estimation. We estimate an uncertainty of ± 25 % on our carbon stock value for the park. This error term includes uncertainties resulting from the use of a generic tropical allometric equation, the use of GLAS data to estimate Lorey's height, and the necessity of separating the landscape into distinct classes. As there is currently no spaceborne LiDAR satellite in operation (GLAS data is available for 2003–2007 only), this methodology is not suitable for change-detection. This research underlines the need for new satellite LiDAR data to provide the potential for biomass-change estimates, although this need will not be met before 2015.

Abstract:
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using mind mapping method in improving early childhood educator’s skill in mastering the child development assessment. This research is quasi-experimental using a pre-test and post-test design. The population was the entire classes of early childhood education training held by LPK Yayasan Indonesia Mendidik Jaka Sampurna at Cileungsi, Bogor. The participants were 45 early childhood educators. This study used three research methods which are implemented from learning methods in child development assessment was as pre-test and post-test. Data were collected by using two instruments to measure early childhood educators for child development assessment. The data were analysed by using t-test to measures the differences data in pre-test and post-test. The results showed that the use of mind mapping methods can help early childhood educators to improve their mastery of the development assessment concept which averages 51.9 percent. It showed significant results with ttest value is 18,266 (N = 10, α = 0,0). This capacity building is reinforced by various qualitative findings which arise from early childhood educators’ awareness to change the old learning style into learning by mind mapping method as a learning method that follows how the brain works. This study also found that early childhood educators as adults who are in the stage of formal thinking have shown an understanding that mind mapping method are appropriate, fast, easy and practical in mastering various development assessment concepts. Early childhood educators believe that they can use the method for mastering other material concepts. Keywords: Assessment, Brain-based teaching, Mind mapping References Anthony, J. N. (2001). Abstract:

"Communicating in the highly regulated tobacco industry: the case of Philip Morris International." Master's thesis, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/10071/22268.

Full text
Abstract:
This report was developed to study how legal regulations restrict the communication and promotional efforts of the tobacco industry, worldwide and in Portugal. The object of study chosen was the tobacco firm Philip Morris, mostly due to its attempts in the past to overcome industry’s boundaries, its historic importance regarding communication in Marketing, and its new product offering (IQOS). Tobacco consumption is declining in the world. Consumers are more educated, have more access to information and are more aware of what tobacco products do to their health. The IQOS comes as an answer to the health concerns of the modern tobacco consumer and to the dropping cigarettes’ market share, but also as a possible way for Philip Morris to communicate externally without so many restrictions – the firm looks into the future instead of relying on yesterday’s successful products and campaigns. In Portugal, Philip Morris has an immediate target of 610,000 to pitch the IQOS to – these are daily smokers, aged from 25 to 54, who want to change and improve their health. Philip Morris encourages every smoker to quit, but if they fail in such attempt the IQOS is there for them as a less harmful way to enjoy the tobacco taste and experience. To attract and retain that target and to spread the new positioning of Philip Morris some recommendations were proposed, which focused on achieving five communication objectives: increase/build brand awareness, change attitudes towards RRPs, establish need for RRPs, influence purchase intent, and retain existing customers (brand loyalty).

Master's thesis, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/10071/21412.

Abstract:
Due to globalization, currently living, working and negotiating with people from different countries and cultures has become an unavoidable reality. The way of thinking, acting, prejudices and value judgments are determining factors for a good individual performance or within a work team, in order to achieve the recommended objectives. The key to success is the identification of cultural differences and the search for appropriate mechanisms to avoid any obstacles and / or constraints. The main objective of this thesis is to identify Mozambican cultural standards from the Portuguese perspective. The research method adopted in this dissertation is the Cultural Standards Method, which is based on a qualitative research approach, seeking to identify the relevant guidelines for intercultural interaction. The research involved three distinct stages: narrative interviews with 27 Portuguese who have been working in Mozambique for more than a year and not more than five years; the analysis of the content of the critical incidents mentioned by the interviewees and finally the identification of Mozambican cultural Standards. The selected cultural standards are the ones most frequently mentioned by the majority of the interviewees and subsequently revalidated through the “feedback” received by the interviewees, and the opinion of two Mozambican specialists. From the Portuguese perspective, the Mozambican cultural standards identified were: Importance of social relations, High level of respect for superiors, Bureaucracy and corruption, Imprecision in communication, Inadequate time management, Irrelevance in professional performance and civility, and Ability to seek alternative solutions for survival.

Abstract:
The aim objective of the study is analyzing the development of accounting quality, in non-listed and non-financial companies between 2007 and 2014. To evaluate the change’s impact in accounting standards in 2010 it was used discretionary accruals. Additionally it is intended to analyze the impact of BIG4 audit enterprises in the same theme. The database used it was Bureau van Dijk’s Amadeus, because it was considered to be the most complete to the sample that it is propose to study, and it was used the Kothari Jones’s model modified (1995) as control variables used in prior studies. The result shows that the accounting quality improved in Portugal when applying the new accounting standards in 2010. They also evidence that BIG4 audit enterprises are not able to limit the use of discretionary accruals, in other words, to prevent earnings management’s practices of Portuguese companies.

Camões, Rita Maria Bizarro. "Valor relevante das demonstrações financeiras separadas em entidades Europeias: Impacto do normativo internacional versus normativo nacional." Master's thesis, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/10071/21835.

Abstract:
Since 2005, in the European Union (EU), with the promulgation of Regulation No. 1606/2002, companies in which securities are listed on the stock exchange have been required to use the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in consolidated accounts, with the possibility for each Member State to choose the normative to be used in separate accounts. The literature about the value-relevant of separate Financial Statements is scarce, so the present study aims to investigate whether the adoption of IFRS has a higher value-relevant than the national accounting standards on separate Financial Statements. This study comprises the financial reports of companies listed on the stock exchange in 17 EU countries, where the use of IFRS is required or prohibited on separate Financial Statements. The sample was collected between 2015 and 2018 and includes 293 companies with a total of 1172 observations. The results show that both Financial Statements, consolidated and separate, are important for investor decision making, meaning that one complements the other. However, within the Financial Statement, the value-relevant of the standards to be used is controversial, since it has no influence in the equity variable, whereas in the net income the IFRS have a higher value-relevant.

Garcia, Filipa Maria Cabral. "Business plan: biological Milk production in Azores: BioAçores." Master's thesis, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/10071/21444.

Full text
Abstract:
According to Mahatma Gandhi, "The Earth provides enough to satisfy every person's need but not every person's greed". Considering that, the Autonomous Region of the Azores, as an insular archipelago with unique characteristics, connecting European mainland to American one, has the duty to protect the environment. Since always, the dairy sector assumed itself as predominant in the environmental, economic and touristic dimension of the region. Milk, cows, green pastures, all of this make part of our culture and daily routine; most of all make part of ourselves. Owing to the fact that we live in a globalized world, the continuous sectors' development is imperative, otherwise, they can be outdated. Nowadays, consumers are not the same as before, they are more informed, value their health and well-being, a lot of them influenced by social media. Besides all of those facts mentioned before, it is important to highlight that there is oversupply of conventional milk comparatively to the industry's demand, resulting in a low price paid to milk producers, less than previous years. Those aspects resulted in the Business Plan development to the biological milk's production in São Miguel Island, which is an underexplored product, so far. The project has the purpose the certified production of a Portuguese premium milk, with higher nutritional and environmental components than conventional milk. Summarizing, the BioAçores project aims to differentiate in the national panorama for its social responsibility allied with sustainable consumption of higher quality products, affecting directly the Azorean economy.
De acordo com Mahatma Gandhi, "The Earth provides enough to satisfy every person's need but not every person's greed".

Hilmy, Hanny. "Sovereignty, Peacekeeping, and the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF), Suez 1956-1967: Insiders’ Perspectives." Thesis, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/1828/5888.

Full text
Abstract:
This research is concerned with the complex and contested relationship between the sovereign prerogatives of states and the international imperative of defusing world conflicts. Due to its historical setting following World War Two, the national vs. international staking of claims was framed within the escalating imperial-nationalist confrontation and the impending “end of empire”, both of which were significantly influenced by the role Israel played in this saga. The research looks at the issue of “decolonization” and the anti-colonial struggle waged under the leadership of Egypt’s President Nasser. The Suez War is analyzed as the historical event that signaled the beginning of the final chapter in the domination of the European empires in the Middle East (sub-Saharan decolonization followed beginning in the early 1960s), and the emergence of the United States as the new major Western power in the Middle East. The Suez experience highlighted a stubborn contest between the defenders of the concept of “sovereign consent” and the advocates of “International intervention”. Both the deployment of the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) and its termination were surrounded by controversy and legal-political wrangling. The role of UNEF and UN peacekeeping operations in general framed the development of a new concept for an emerging international human rights law and crisis management. The UNEF experience, moreover, brought into sharp relief the need for a conflict resolution component for any peace operation. International conflict management, and human rights protection are both subject to an increasing interventionist international legal regime. Consequently, the traditional concept of “sovereignty” is facing increasing challenge. By its very nature, the subject matter of this multi-dimensional research involves historical, political and international legal aspects shaping the research’s content and conclusions. The research utilizes the experience and contributions of several key participants in this pioneering peacekeeping experience. In the last chapter, recommendations are made –based on all the elements covered in the research- to suggest contributions to the evolving UN ground rules for international crisis intervention and management.

Abstract:
Passive turbulence control (PTC) in the form of two straight roughness strips with variable width, and thickness about equal to the boundary layer thickness, is used to modify the flow-induced motions (FIM) of a rigid circular cylinder. The cylinder is supported by two end-springs and the flow is in the TrSL3, high-lift, regime. The PTC-to-FIM Map, developed in previous work, revealed zones of weak suppression, strong suppression, hard galloping, and soft galloping. In this paper the sensitivity of the PTC-to-FIM Map to: (a) the width of PTC covering, (b) PTC covering a single or multiple zones, (c) PTC being straight or staggered is studied experimentally. Experiments are conducted in the Low Turbulence Free Surface Water Channel of the University of Michigan. Fixed parameters are: cylinder diameter D = 8.89cm, m* = 1.725, spring stiffness K = 763N/m, aspect ratio l/D = 10.29, and damping ratio ζ = 0.019. Variable parameters are: circumferential PTC location αPTC ∈ [0°−180°], Reynolds number Re ∈ [30,000–120,000], flow velocity U ∈ [0.36m/s–1.45m/s]. Measured quantities are: amplitude ratio A/D, frequency ratio fosc/fn,w, and synchronization range. As long as the roughness distribution is limited to remain within a zone, the width of the strips does not affect the FIM response. When multiple zones are covered, the strong suppression zone dominates the FIM.

To study the effect of Factor XHIa mediated cross-linking of fibrin on the specificity of MAb/TD-1 (specific for the D-dimer of the DD/E region of human cross-linked [XL] fibrin, MAb/T2Gls (specific for the amino terminal region of β chain, β 15-42 and Fibrin II [ des AABB fibrinogen ]) and MAb/l-8C6 (specific for fibrinogen, Fibrin I [ des AA fibrinogen ] and B8 1-42) an Avidin Biotin Immunoperoxidase staining of frozen sections of human fibrin was used. The three monoclonals were applied as first antibodies in the Vectastain ABC Kit ( Vector Laboratories, Burlingame, CA ). Clots were prepared from Imco fibrinogen using 0.015 M Na2HPO4, 0.075 M NaCL, pH 6.35. Where applicable, EDTA 0.01 M was used in the buffer. Bovine thrombin 1 u/ml was added and the clots were incubated overnight at 20°C. Frozen sections were prepared and stained. Kabi grade (L) fibrinogen was also used, but failed to clot in the presence of EDTA. The results of the comperative study were as follows:The positive reaction with T2Gls in both clots preparations is due to the presence of the. neoepitope in cross-linked and noncross linked Fibrin II. The specificity of TD-1 for cross-linked fibrin is supported by a positive reaction in the normal clot, while the reaction was very weak in the presence of EDTA. Due to the cleavage by thrombin of Bβ (Argininel4-Glycinel5) MAb/l-8C6 was negative in both clots. These results indicate, that the Avidin-Biotin Immunoperoxidase staining of frozen sections of human fibrin, is useful for the evaluation of monoclonal antibodies specificity to fibrinogen/fibrin molecule.

Abstract:
In design of the Japan Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor (JSFR), mean velocity of the coolant is approximately 9 m/s in the primary hot leg (H/L) piping which diameter is 1.27 m. The Reynolds number in the H/L piping reaches 4.2×107. Moreover, a short-elbow which has Rc/D = 1.0 (Rc: Curvature radius, D: Pipe diameter) is used in the hot leg piping in order to achieve compact plant layout and reduce plant construction cost. In the H/L piping, flow-induced vibration (FIV) is concerned due to excitation force which is caused by pressure fluctuation on the wall closely related with the velocity fluctuation in the short-elbow. In the previous study, relation between the flow separation and the pressure fluctuations in the short-elbow was revealed under the specific inlet condition with flat distribution of time-averaged axial velocity and relatively weak velocity fluctuation intensity in the pipe. However, the inlet velocity condition of the H/L in a reactor may have ununiformed profile with highly turbulent due to the complex geometry in reactor vessel (R/V). In this study, the influence of the inlet velocity condition on unsteady characteristics of velocity in the short-elbow was studied. Although the flow around the inlet of the H/L in R/V could not simulate completely, inlet velocity conditions were controlled by installing the perforated plate with plugging the flow-holes appropriately. Then expected flow patterns were made at 2D upstream position from the elbow inlet in the experiments. It was revealed that the inlet velocity profiles affected circumferential secondary flow and the secondary flows affected an area of flow separation at the elbow, by local velocity measurement by the PIV (particle image velocimetry). And it was found that the low frequent turbulence in the upstream piping remained downstream of the elbow though their intensity was attenuated.

The effect of a LMWH - Kabi 2165 on thrombo-embolism prophylaxis was studied in a prospective, randomized trial of 74 patients scheduled for surgery due to malignant diseases. 38 patients received 2 500 anti-Xa units S.C. 2 hours before operation, then 12 hours after and then 5 000 anti-Xa units once a day for 10 days. 36 patients were given calcium heparin 5 000 i.u S.C. 2 hours before operation and then three time a day for 10 days. 125I-Fibrinogen uptake test was used in all patients to detect D.V.T. Positive scan was controlled by phlebography. In the Kabi 2165 group, 2 patients had positive scan not confirmed by phlebography No pulmonary embolism was reported. In the calcium heparin group, 2 patients developed non fatal pulmonary embolism. The fibrinogen test was negative in all the patients. Intra and postoperative blood loss, transfusion requirements, wound hematomas and infectious complications did not differ significantly between the two groups. The mean values of hematocrit and hemoglobin preoperatively and post operatively (day 1, and 10) were similar for the two groups :It is concluded that a single daily injection of 5 000 anti-Xa units of Kabi 2165 may provide a prophylaxis against postoperative venous thromboembolism as effective and as safe as 3 daily injections of 5 000 i.u. of calcium heparin in oncological surgery.

Abstract:
The VIVACE (Vortex Induced Vibration for Aquatic Clean Energy) Converter was introduced at OMAE2006 as a single, smooth, circular-cylinder module. The hydrodynamics of VIVACE is being improved continuously to achieve higher density in harnessed hydrokinetic power. Inter-cylinder spacing and Passive Turbulence Control (PTC) through selectively located roughness are effective tools in enhancement of Flow Induced Motions (FIMs) under high damping for power harnessing. VIVACE Converters consist of multi-cylinder modules. Single cylinders harness energy at high density even in 1knot currents. For downstream cylinders questions are raised on energy availability and sustainability of high-amplitude FIM. Through PTC and inter-cylinder spacing, strongly synergetic FIM of 2/3/4 cylinders is achieved, harnessing hydrokinetic energy with increased footprint density. Two-cylinder smooth/PTC and four-cylinder PTC systems are tested experimentally. Using the “PTC-to-FIM” map developed in previous work at the Marine Renewable Energy Laboratory (MRELab), PTC is applied and cylinder response is measured for the following parameter ranges: In-flow center-to-center distance 1.63•D–5.00•D (D = diameter), transverse center-to-center distance 0.5•D–1.5•,D, Re ∈[28,000–120,000], m* ∈[1.677–1.690], U ∈[0.36m/s–1.45m/s], aspect ratio l/D = 10.29, and m*ζ ∈[0.0283–0.0346]. All experiments are conducted in the Low Turbulence Free Surface Water (LTFSW) Channel of MRELab. Amplitude spectra and broad filed-of-view (FOV) visualization help reveal complex flow structures and cylinder interference undergoing VIV, interference/proximity/wake/soft/hard galloping.

Abstract:
Abstract An operator in the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) required sufficient zonal isolation around a casing shoe to accommodate subsequent targeted injection operations. Located in the Ivar Aasen field, and classified as critical, the well had a 9 ⅝-in. casing shoe set in the depleted Skagerrak 2 reservoir. The lost circulation risk was high during cementing because the Hugin formation, located above the reservoir, contained 40 m [~ 131.2 ft] of highly porous and permeable sandstone. During previous operations in the field, lost circulation was observed before and during the casing running and cementing operations. After unsuccessful attempts to cure the losses with various lost circulation materials, a new solution was proposed to target the specific lost circulation problem by combining two types of reinforced composite mat pill (RCMP) technology. Specifically, the first type of RCMP technology was engineered for use in the viscous preflush spacer, and the second was applied to the cement slurry itself. Working in synergy, the RCMP systems mitigated the risk of incomplete zonal isolation. With no losses observed upon reaching total depth (TD) for the 12 ¼-in. hole, the 9 ⅝-in. casing was run with a reamer shoe and 15 rigid centralizers. Between 2700 and 2728 m [~ 8,858 and 8,950 ft] measured depth (MD), the rig observed constant drag of 30 to 40 MT whilst working the casing down, and circulation was completely lost before partial returns were eventually observed. The rig continued to work the string down to the planned landing depth at 3897 m [~ 12,785 ft] MD. Precementing circulation ensued with staged pump rates increasing at 100-L/min [~ 0.6-bbl/min] intervals up to 1400 L/min [~ 8.8 bbl/min], which induced losses at a rate of 6.5 m3/hour [~ 40 bbl/hour]). Subsequently, the flow rate was reduced to 1300 L/min [~ 8.1 bbl/min], and the annular volume was circulated 2.6 times with full returns. Attempts to reduce equivalent circulating density (ECD) ahead of the cementing operation were implemented at 1300 L/min [~ 8.1 bbl/min] using a low-density, low-rheology oil-based drilling fluid pill. However, a significant loss rate of 18.0 m3/hour [~113 bbl/hour] was observed. The flow rate was reduced to 950 L/min [~ 6.0 bbl/min], and partial circulation was recovered. After the spacer and cement had reached the annulus, full returns were immediately observed and continued until the top plug was successfully bumped. Acoustic logging determined that the operation had achieved the primary job objective of establishing the required length of hydraulically isolating cement in the annulus. Lost circulation is a costly problem that can be difficult to solve, even with the wide variety of technologies available (Vidick, B., Yearwood, J. A., and Perthuis, H. 1988. How To Solve Lost Circulation Problems. SPE-17811-MS). This case study demonstrates a successful solution. The operator will be able to incorporate lessons learned and best practices into future operations, and these lessons and practices will be useful to other operators with similar circumstances.

Abstract:
We have found that oligoamines of the general formula R2−3X(R=-(CH2)m-NH-(CH2)n-Y) in which X and Y may be aliphatic, alicyc-lic, aromatic or even heterocyclic moieties are a new class of compounds which exhibit platelet aggregation inhibiting and anticoagulant activities in vitro and have antithrombotic properties in vivo. The compound RE 1492 (N,N’,N1’-Tris-4-phenylbutylbenzene-1,3,5-trimethanamine) is chosen as example to demonstrate these effects. In PRP the following IC50 of RE 1492 (inductor in brackets) were measured: 3 ¼mol/L (Collagen), 1 ¼mol/L (ADP, 2ndphase), 7.5 μmol/L (ADP, lstphase), 2,5 μmol/L (A 23187, 2ndphase), 7,5 μmol/L (Ionophor A 23187, lstphase), 30 ¼mol/L (Thrombin). The inhibition of the aggregation Induced by ADP could as well be demonstrated in whole blood. The formation of fibrin was inhibited as shown by the prolongation of the thromboplastin time (Quick) and the partial thromboplastin time (PTT) the first being more sensitive (25% of normal at 50 ymol/L) than the latter (25% of normal at 100 ymol/L). The reason was the inhibition of coagulation factors in the following order: VII (25% of normal at 12.5 ¼mol/L) >WErwnr/IX (25 ¼mol/L) »X (200 μmol/L). The thrombin time remains normal. The antithrombotic properties of RE 1492 were investigated in an in vivo thrombosis model. The formation of platelet thrombi in mesenteric arterioles and venoles of rats (diameterM5 ym) was induced by a laser beam. In controls 1,76±1,14 (SD) shots (50 msec, 50 mW) on the arterioles were necessary for thrombus formation. Twenty minutes after i.v. application of RE 1492 this number rose to 3,18±2,08 (3 mg/kg, p ≤ 0,01, X2-test) and 4,59±1,93 (10 mg/kg, p ≤ 0,01) in arterioles. In venoles of the control animals 1,29±0,45 shots were necessary for thrombus formation. This number rose to 2,11±1,62 (p ≤ 0,05) after 3 mg/kg and 3,28±2,03 (p0,01) after 10 mg/kg. As the number of shots applied was limited to five an average shot number of 5± SD would indicate that no thrombus formation takes place at all. As RE 1492 does neither influence the metabolic pattern of arachidonic acid in platelets nor the activity of phosphodiesterase or adenylatcyclase it is supposed that the oligoamines exert their effects by interaction with phospholipids (PL) resulting in a “membrane stabilization” in platelets and inhibition of PL dependent coagulation factors during fibrin formation.

Abstract:
The kinetics of the inhibition of the following plasminogen activators: one- and two-chain tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) and low and high molecular weight urokinase (UK) by PAI-1 was studied. For this purpose direct systems were employed and the reactions were studied in the presence of different concentrations of plasminogen activator chromogenic substrates. The second-order rate constant of the association reaction was estimated from the initial decline in plasminogen activator activity. Determination of the rate constants in the absence of substrates was performed by plotting the rate constants versus the substrate concentrations and extrapolation to zero concentration. The rate constants with all plasminogen activators were very similar and estimated as 2 - 4 x 107 M-1 x s-1. The reactions were also studied in the presence of 6-aminohexanoic acid, lysine, arginine, guanidinium chloride (final concentrations for all substances about 1 mmol/L) and heparin (10 mg/L), without any significant effect on the rate constants. The effect of soluble fibrin (bathroxobin-digested fibrinogen in urea) at 10 - 300 nmol/L was also studied. With one-chain t-PA the rate constant was decreased about 10-fold with the highest fibrin concentration and about 2-fold at 30 nmol/L. In contrast, the reactions with urokinase or two-chain t-PA were not influenced by fibrin at these concentrations. These findings may have a physiological significance: the one-chain t-PA adsorbed to the fibrin surface and actively involved in fibrinolysis would be protected against inactivation by PAI. This phenomenon adds further to the physiological fibrin specificity of one-chain t-PA.

Abstract:
This paper presents the experimental studies of the performance of a small reformer for hydrogen generation from water solution of methanol. An electric heater was built around the reactor unit to supply the energy for the endothermal reaction between methanol and steam. The parameters under studied were the temperature of the catalytic reaction (T), the mass flow rate of methanol solution (m˙), steam-to-methanol ratio (α), and the length (L) and number of cells (N) of the catalyst carrier, while the catalysts used were CuO-ZnO-Al2O3, CuO-ZnO-Al2O3-Pt-Rh, and Pt-Rh. The test results show that for all conditions both of the conversion and yield rates of hydrogen increase with increasing length and number of cells of the catalyst carrier. However, such increases become gradual in the high ranges of L and N. For the catalyst CuO-ZnO-Al2O3-Pt-Rh with N = 300 cells per square inch, L = 105mm, α = 1.9, and m˙ = 0.064 mole/min, the conversion rate may be as high as 99.9%. On the other hand, both of the conversion and yield rates decrease with increasing ratio of steam to methanol in the reactant. The decreases are more apparent at high temperature. When the mass flow rate of the methanol solution is increased, the conversion rate decreases. Such a decrease is more distinct in the medium range of methanol flow rate. On the other hand, the yield rate of hydrogen increases with the flow rate of methanol solution, especially at high temperature. For all of the three catalysts tested, both of the conversion and yield rates increase with reaction temperature, except for catalyst CuO-ZnO-Al2O3 at high temperature. Although catalyst CuO-ZnO-Al2O3-Pt-Rh shows no high-temperature deterioration, its performance is much poorer than that of catalyst CuO-ZnO-Al2O3 at low to medium temperatures. The difference in the performance between these two catalysts may be as high as 50%. By arranging a turbulence inducer located at the upstream side of the catalyst carrier, both of the conversion and yield rates can be increased significantly.

Abstract:
The human platelet membrane glycoprotein (GP) IIb-IIIa complex and a family of functional leukocyte cell membrane antigens, LFA-1 (L), Mac-1 (M) andpl50,95 (X), possess knownstructural analogies. Similaritiesinclude a heterodimeric structure with a high mol. wt. αsubunit (Mr∽ 145-180 kDa) , associated nonconvalently with a lower mol. wt.β-subunit (Mr ∽ 90-95 kDa),anda partial amino acid sequence hommology between GP lib and αL or CKM. Furthermore, GP lib, α L and αM were reported to be co-expressed in murine cells transfected with a 20 kilobase human DNA fragment. To address the question of a possible genomic linkage between these related glycoproteins of different cells, we have examined patients with either ‘LFA-1 immunodeficiency disease’ or with Glanzmann's thrombasthenia (GT). S.Bo. and P.Ce. are children affected by recurrent bacterial infections since birth. Cytofluorimetric analysis using monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) for the αL, αM,αX and β subunits demonstrated that the surface expression of LFA-1, Mac-1 and pl50,95 intheir leukocytes was ≤1% of the normal values. Platelets from both patients aggregated normally and readily bound the MAbs AP-2 (anti-GP IIb-IIIa) or Tab (anti-GP IIb). Crossed immunoelectrophoresis confirmed the presenceof GP IIb-IIIa complexes, whileSDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis showed a normal migration of GP IIb and GP IIIa. Patients C. Bl. and M.Ca.are typical of the type I subgroupofGT. Their platelets are unable toaggregate and contain < 1% of the normal platelet content of GP liband GP Ilia.Cytofluoro-graphy showed a normal expression of LFA-1, Mac-1 and 150,95 on the surface of lymphocytes, polymorphonuclear cells and/or monocytes of both patients. Our data thus show that despite sequence homologies and a potential genomic linkage, the cellular expression of the platelet GP IIb-IIIa complex and of the LFA-1 related leukocyte antigens may be dissociated in genetic disorders where anabnormal glycoprotein distribution may be restricted to one type of cell.
