Abstract:
This article engages the politics of technology as it examines how a discourse of time is framed by engineers and project principals in the course of the development of three future internet architecture projects: named data networking, eXpressive Internet Architecture, and Mobility First. This framing reveals categories of a discourse of time that include articulations of efficiency, speed, time as a technical resource, and notions of the future manifest in each project. The discursive categories fit into a time constructs model that exposes how these projects were built with regard to concepts of speed and how different notions of time are expressed as a design ideology intertwined with other ideologies. This time constructs framework represents a tool that can be used to expose the social and political values of technological development that are often hidden or are difficult to communicate in cross-disciplinary contexts.

Abstract:
This paper describes a student project assignment used in an accounting information systems course. We are now truly immersed in the internet age, and while many required accounting information systems courses and textbooks introduce database design, accounting software development, cloud computing, and internet security, projects involving the actual integration of these topics with accounting concepts in a single comprehensive student project on the internet are uncommon. The project described gives students experience and knowledge of an internet-based accounting system using an online database. Although this project was used in an accounting information systems course, it could also be utilized in other courses such as introductory database management systems, advanced web design, financial technology systems, or introductory information technology. The project can be easily modified to align with the experience and sophistication of the students taking the course.

Abstract:
Designing large scale real estate projects often requires collaboration between consultants and agencies that are located in different geographical areas. The added constraint of geographical distance to a design approach that already involves multiple participants makes design collaboration a particularly challenging task. This study hypothesizes that design collaboration could benefit from harnessing web technologies. Organizational Risk Analyzer (ORA) software was used to identify the key factors of a collaboration network in a design project located in Kolkata, India. The web enabled internet forum system used was compared with the more traditional system of collaboration using mail. The collaborative network factors like connectedness, density, diffusion, centralization degree, and the node level factors like closeness centrality, eigenvector, betweenness and Burt constraint indicate that internet forums provide a more efficient tool of collaboration than traditional mail network systems. A simulation shows that the forum network operated even in an adverse condition, for example, when the project manager, a key member of the collaboration team, was unavailable.

Abstract:
AbstractWith the trend of global collaboration and development of Internet of Things in industry 4.0, the collaboration relationships between designers is getting more close and important than before. Therefore, when project manager assign designers to design projects, it is very important for them to select design projects with the consider about the expectations of the designers regarding the different projects and collaboration ability for the designers in the projects while it is very important to identify the projects with the consideration of skills, experiences, availabilities and so on. Even though, there are various methods for selecting projects, most of these methods not consider about the expectations of designer and the collaboration ability. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a project selection methodology, which consider about the designers’ expectations to the candidate multi-project and collaboration ability in the candidate multi-project. The main objective of our research is to help project manager to find an adaptable and comfortable multi- project to the designer.

Abstract:
Cambridge University and Microsoft are planning a shared computer research and teaching laboratory on a green-field site to the west of the city. The clients wished to use Internet based communication between themselves and their architects, including email, a website and virtual reality. We explain how this is to be achieved, and describe experiences during the first half of a two year project. Particularly successful has been the use of games software (Quake II) for 3D presentation of the emerging building design.

Abstract:
This article focuses on developing a pen-like device that is expected to soon take the place of the computer mouse. John Hirschtick of SolidWorks expects to see touchscreens and other means of communicating with computers—now familiar in ATM machines, iPhones, and Wii game systems—make their way into more computer interfaces, including those for CAD. Engineers might draw on the screen with a pen-based input or might use a haptic device to feel as though they are grabbing the model to manipulate it. The Internet has spawned companies like Quickparts.com and MFG.com, which have changed the way manufacturers can buy parts. Under the model envisioned by Jakiela, independent mechanical engineers would band together to work on a project through an Internet site. Jakiela is also looking at how to best build a prototype when all design-team members are part of an ad hoc team.

Abstract:
During the development of the European Pressurized Water Reactor Project (EPR)—an innovative design concept for a new type of pressurized water reactor—large amounts of up-to-date engineering data (i.e., CAD data, planning documentation) have to be made available to all international project partners for presentation and development. This paper describes the web-based tool Virtual Web Plant (VWP), a tool to integrate three-dimensional models from various CAD plant design tools and to display them interactively. The user is hereby able to navigate easily through both the plant structure and the project documentation. The work presented in this paper is part of a Virtual Reality Research Project of the Heinz Nixdorf Institute and the Siemens AG KWU.

Abstract:
AbstractRecent advances in sensing and networking technologies, namely the Internet of Things (IoT), have become key enablers of data-intensive design processes. However, the recent introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in Europe has raised concerns that the GDPR might hamper data- intensive design processes. In this paper, we map the challenges of enabling ethical and compliant design of product-service systems with personal IoT data. Specifically, we present a 4-year project led by EON, an international energy provider, to design innovative home energy systems that leverage emerging technologies such as solar panels, electric vehicles and home batteries. We present our 6-stage approach to design, centred on IoT data. We highlight the barriers of responsible design with data and identify three novel trust principles for compliant use of personal IoT data in design (private-by-default, analytics transparency and Accountable analytics).
