Abstract:
This paper investigates the effects of the Internet on the structure of the classical marketing channels. The advantages offered by the Internet have determined many companies to adopt different models of Internet-enabled distribution strategy. The choice and the implementation of these strategies will be influenced, as in the case of any other marketing channel, by the characteristics of the company, of its clients, and of the traded products. On the basis of an empirical study of 500 Internet commercial sites, the present paper identifies the models of Internet-enabled distribution strategy

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to reexamine several issues about disintermediation from the perspectives of tourism product/service suppliers (hotels) and traditional intermediaries (travel agencies), considering the move of the current distribution landscape toward disintermediation. Internet and mobile technologies offer various tools for consumers to search and purchase products/services from suppliers directly. Consequently, the necessity and role of traditional intermediaries in the industry become questionable. Design/methodology/approach – In all, six focus group interviews were

The emergence of the Internet has pushed many established companies to explore this radically new distribution channel. Like all market discontinuities, the Internet creates opportunities as well as threats—it can be performance-enhancing as readily as it can be performance-destroying. Making use of event-study methodology, the authors assess the net impact of adding an Internet channel on a firm's stock market return, a measure of the change in expected future cash flows. The authors find that, on average, Internet channel investments are positive net-present-value investments. The authors th

Internet has revolutionized distribution channels. Online orders are forwarded to the brick-and-mortar store to make the fulfillment, which is a new distribution strategy in a dual-channel supply chain. However, there is little research on the value of using such distribution strategy in dual-channel setting. To fill this gap, this article considers a manufacturer marketing a product through a dual-channel supply chain, comprised of an online channel and an offline retail channel. Organizing and managing channels of distribution is an important marketing task. Due to the emergence of electronic commerce on the Internet, e-channel distribution systems have been adopted by many manufacturers. Question marks therefore remain on how the addition of this e-channel affects the traditional marketing strategies of leasing and selling. The investigation takes into consideration cases of VO/OV variation with complex analytic verb forms where V is the past participle and O contains a universal or a negative quantifier. It is shown that while OV with non-quantified DPs and complex QPs is optional, universal bare quantifiers always precede the past participle. It is proposed that bare quantifiers undergo obligatory movement to a dedicated position, which is a function of their internal structure.

A window for an endo-atmospheric seeker optical system must maintain its optical quality while being subjected to high heat input from an external flow. We have analyzed the optical effects associated with coolant channels that are internal to the window and that control temperatures within the window material. These channels partially obscure the clear aperture, and temperature gradients between channels cause spatial variations in optical path through the window. In the seeker's image plane the intensity distribution is affected by amplitude and phase aberrations associated with the coolant

Numerical results for an internal ribbed cooling channel including a 180° bend with a 2:1 inlet and 1:1 aspect ratio outlet channel were validated against experimental results in terms of spatially resolved heat transfer distributions, pressure losses, and velocity distributions. The numerical domain consisted of one rib segment in the inlet channel and three ribs segments in the outlet channel to reduce the overall numerical effort and allow for an extensive parametric study. The results showed good agreement for both heat transfer magnitudes and spatial distributions and the numerical result

Gas or liquid flow in multiple, parallel micro-channels is of interest for Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) cooling applications. The published data for friction in 10-to-400μm hydraulic diameter, single micro-channels show good agreement with the conventional equations in the laminar and turbulent regimes. However, investigators of flow in multiple, parallel micro-channels in the same range of channel sizes report significantly different results. They report significant disagreement with the conventional equations and argue that transition occurs at Reynolds numbers as small as 200, de

Detailed Nusselt number distributions are presented for a gas turbine engine similar internal channel geometry used for cooling a modern first stage rotor blade. The cooling design has one leading edge channel and a three-pass channel that covers the rest of the blade. The model wall inner surfaces were sprayed with thermochromic liquid crystals, and a transient test was used to obtain the local heat tran

Humans have now altered essentially every natural ecosystem in the world, and among the numerous consequences of anthropogenic global change, many of the Earth’s species are currently living under drastically different environmental and ecological conditions. On one hand, many species that once thrived in the wild are now threatened by extinction, while at the same time, species that were historically benign are becoming invasive in different parts of the world. To address this major challenge, it is critical that conservation practitioners understand the multiple short- and long-term climatol

The Southeast Coast Network (SECN) has initiated a monitoring effort to assess habitat conditions in wadeable streams at national parks, recreation areas, battlefields, and monuments in Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. This monitoring effort includes Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, Congaree National Park, Horseshoe Bend National Military Park, and Ocmulgee National Monument. Stream habitat monitoring was implemented in 2016, and focuses specifically on providing relevant data to assess the physical condition of Piedmont and upper

Abstract:
This paper studies the link between credit conditions and formalization in Brazil, as both credit and the rate of formalization have notably increased in the last decade. A firm dynamics model with endogenous formal and informal sectors is developed to quanti- tatively evaluate how much of the change in corporate credit and the size of the formal sector can be attributed to a reduction in the cost of financial intermediation. The model predicts that the observed reduction in intermediation costs generates an increase in the credit-to-output ratio and in the share of formal workers, in line wit

Abstract:
We apply discrete probability forecasts to the expectations of monetary policy rate changes, both in the United States and in the euro area. By using binomial trees from options theory, forecast distributions are derived from the instantaneous forward yield curve, based on interest rate swaps. We then use a non-randomised discrete probability forecast evaluation that confirms the presence of a systematic upward bias, consistent with the presence of a term premium. Consequently, we propose a bias-correction methodology to increase the accuracy of the density forecasts regarding monetary policy

This paper studies how household inequality shapes the effects of the zero lower bound (ZLB) on nominal interest rates on aggregate dynamics. To do so, we consider a heterogeneous agent New Keynesian (HANK) model with an occasionally binding ZLB and solve for its fully non-linear stochastic equilibrium using a novel neural network algorithm. In this setting, changes in the monetary policy stance influence households’precautionary savings by altering the frequency of ZLB events. As a result, the model features monetary policy non-neutrality in the long run. The degree of long-run non-neutrality
