Abstract:
The tourism sector has been identified as an industry that has the potential to make a substantial contribution to the growth of the South African economy. The majority of tourism ventures are, however, small businesses, which differ from their larger counterparts not only in terms of size, but also in regard to access to resources and marketing expertise. Not surprisingly, one of the issues identified as preventing this sector from reaching its full potential is access to markets. The Internet has been identified as tool which may assist small businesses in both their global and domestic marketing. The focus of this study was to identify the factors specific to the Internet (rather than the technology per se or organisational factors) driving the success of the use of the Internet for marketing purposes in small businesses operating in the tourism sector in South Africa. If these factors can be identified and their relative influence on Internet marketing success be determined, it will allow small tourism businesses utilise the capabilities of the Internet more effectively. The results indicate that having a product champion in the business, having a network of effective alliances, a high level of owner-manager involvement in the Internet marketing strategy as well as a clear owner-manager vision are important to the successful use of the Internet for the marketing of small tourism businesses in South Africa.

Abstract:
Purpose – This study aims to determine the influence of motivational factors: perceived ease of use (PEU), perceived enjoyment (PEJ) and perceived usefulness (PU) on utilisation of Internet health information resources among resident doctors in tertiary health-care institutions in Nigeria. The Internet has become a major source of health information for practitioners and the general public. Despite the availability of health information resources on the Internet, some resources are underutilised. There are numerous studies on Internet use among health-care workers; however, there is a dearth of information on motivational factors influencing utilisation of Internet health information resources among resident doctors in Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach – A descriptive survey design was used. Total enumeration technique was adopted to cover 1,280 resident doctors in 13 tertiary health-care institutions in southwestern Nigeria. A validated, self-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. The questionnaire has four sections covering the demographic profile of the respondents, PEU, PEJ and PU. Four hypotheses were tested at the p < 0.0 1 level of significance. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson product-moment correlation and multiple regression analysis. Findings – There were more males (69.0 per cent) than females (31 per cent); respondents mean age was 34 years. The result revealed that PEU(r = 0.181, p < 0.01), PEJ(r = 0.166, p < 0.01) and PU(r = 0.121, p < 0.01) have significant relationship with utilisation of Internet health information resources by the respondents. Also, PEU, PEJ and PU collectively (F = 15.366, df = 3; 897, p < 0.01) have significant influence on utilisation of Internet health information resources of the respondents. Individually, PEU (B = 0.864, df = 897, t = 3.90, p < 0.01) and PEJ (B = 0.349, df = 897, t = 3.060, p [lt] 0.01) were found to have significant influence on utilisation while PU (B = 0.232, df = 897, t = 1.328, p > 0.01) does not significantly influence the utilisation of Internet health information resource of the respondents. Research limitations/implications – One major implication of this study is that system designers and web content developers should design programs and websites that are compatible with the user’s abilities. Medical librarians have a role to play in providing quality health content that is easy to navigate and pleasurable to use. Both the institutions and the government have a role to play in providing information and communication technology facilities to enable doctors access relevant health information resources easily. Practical implications – Introduction of information literacy training in the residency programme or inclusion as a component of the continuing professional development will enable resident doctors to know relevant online searching tools and search techniques for accessing health information resources which will be useful to their work. This will in turn increase their PU of Internet resources. Health sciences librarians (medical librarians) in the various institutions/centres have a role to play in training resident doctors on how to access, retrieve and evaluate online health information. Librarians should also train resident doctors on how to search evidence-based Medicine resources such as the Cochrane Library and PubMed Clinical Queries and Critical Appraisal of the medical literature to make informed decision in the management of their patients and for research purposes. They should be trained on how to organise bibliographic references using reference manager tools such as Endnote, Zotero or Mendeley. Social implications – The social implication of this findings is that systems that are easy to use should be designed, so that doctors will be able to access relevant information for research and patient care for better health outcomes. The easier and enjoyable the system is to use, the more resident doctors will access and use health information resources to improve their service and save more lives. Originality/value – This study examined three motivational factors (PEU, PEJ and PU) that influence the utilisation of Internet health information resources by resident doctors in tertiary health-care institutions in Nigeria. The result revealed that collectively PEU, PEJ and PU have significant relationship with the utilisation of Internet health information resources, but PEU and PEJ are the main drivers of use of Internet health information resources among the resident doctors studied. This study adds to the literature of motivational factors influencing utilisation of Internet health information resources by resident doctors in southwestern Nigeria. This paper is original because, to the best of our knowledge, there is no other study on motivational factors influencing Internet use among resident doctors in Nigeria.

Abstract:
Introduction: Despite the public health relevance of smoking in adolescents and emerging adults, this group remains understudied and underserved. High technology utilisation among this group may be harnessed as a tool for better understanding of smoking, yet little is known regarding the acceptability of mobile health (mHealth) integration. Methods: Participants (ages 14–21 years) enrolled in a smoking cessation clinical trial provided feedback on their technology utilisation, perceptions, and attitudes; and interest in remote monitoring for smoking. Characteristics that predicted greater technology acceptability for smoking treatment were also explored. Results: Participants (N = 87) averaged 19 years old and were mostly male (67%). Technology utilisation was high for smart phone ownership (93%), Internet use (98%), and social media use (94%). Despite this, only one-third of participants had ever searched the Internet for cessation tips or counselling (33%). Participants showed interest in mHealth-enabled treatment (48%) and felt that it could be somewhat helpful (83%). Heavier smokers had more favourable attitudes toward technology-based treatment, as did those with smartphones and unlimited data. Conclusions: Our results demonstrate high technology utilisation, favourable attitudes towards technology, and minimal concerns. Technology integration among this population should be pursued, though in a tailored fashion, to accomplish the goal of providing maximally effective, just-in-time interventions.

Abstract:
This study investigated utilisation of internet-enabled devices for academic and religious purposes among Muslim undergraduates in University of Ilorin, Nigeria. All Muslim students in the University constituted the population of the study, while only those in the Faculty of Arts were the target population. Meanwhile, 50 Muslim students were randomly selected from each of the seven departments which totaled 350 undergraduate Muslim students. The instrument used to collect data was researcher-designed questionnaire. Two research hypotheses were formulated and tested using inferential statistics of Pearson Product Moment Correlation Statistics, at 0.05 level of significance. It was revealed from the findings of the study that utilisation of internet-enabled devices significantly related to Muslim students' religious practices and academic performance. Therefore, it was concluded that students should always ensure moderation in chit-chatting and use their internet-enabled devices for the purposes which would boost their academic performance and improve them spiritually.

Abstract:
This study is part of a doctoral thesis aimed at investigating the influence of institutional factors on utilisation of Research4Life databases by NARIs scientists in Nigeria. The study adopted the descriptive survey design of the correlational type. The study population consists of 1,205 research scientists in the 15 NARIs from which a total of thirteen (13) institutes and 1,062 research scientists were selected adopting cluster, simple random and stratified random sampling techniques. The questionnaire was the main instrument for data collection. It consists of 105 questions arranged in five sections. Simple percentage, mean, Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation, multiple regression analysis and analysis of variance were used to analyse the data. Result indicates that the six institutional factors were significant and the institutional factors influenced utilisation of Research4Life databases. Accessibility of databases, availability of password and fast Internet access made significant contributions to utilisation of Research4Life databases. NARIs management has critical roles to play in providing access to Research4Life databases in research scientists’ offices and their libraries as well as providing fast Internet access and in-house-training in the institutes. The librarians should register for Research4Life databases and make the user names and passwords available to all their bona fide users.

Abstract:
There is no doubt about the fact that information and communication technology utilisation (ICT) is a life wire of any school organisation. However, planners and administrators are aware of the contributions that ICT utilisation could make to the enhancement of academic activities of the institutions. The attainment of the goals and objectives of higher institutions of learning required the availability and optimal utilisation of ICT. Based on the foregoing premise, this study examined ICT utilisation as a veritable tool for academic staff effectiveness in Nigerian Polytechnics. The concept and importance of ICT utilisation were critically examined. Challenges associated with ICT utilisation were highlighted, which include unsteady power supply, inadequate funding, poor quality of telecommunication connections, and lack of qualified ICT operators. The study concluded that the contribution of ICT utilisation to the development of entire level of education today make it necessary for the adoption of ICT utilisation by the school authorities, administrators as well as the lecturers in such a way that it easier for the utilisation of application packages (like power point presentation, Microsoft word process, spread sheet and so on), internet application (video conferencing, e-mail, data base, e-learning) and computer hardware facilities (photo copier machine, printing machine, scanners, laptops to mention but a few). This helps to improve the quality of teaching-learning process, academic and administrative effectiveness in institutions. Also, the technological devices of an institution are a major determinant factor in the actualisation of its objectives. The study recommends that proper funding should be provided for the procurement of ICT devices and equipment which are capital intensive.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The reduction of the carbon footprint of human activities is one of the current major economic and ecological challenges. Communication networks have a dual role in this reduction. On one hand, mobile networks, and in particular the base stations, are nowadays an important energy consumer. It is, thus, necessary to optimize their behavior in order to reduce their carbon footprint. On the other hand, some communication networks are necessary to better manage the electrical grid. Thanks to this better management, it is possible to improve the proportion of electricity produced by renewable energy sources. In this thesis, we look at both aspects. In a first step, we propose a solution to reduce the energy consumption of wireless mobile networks. For that purpose, we propose algorithms that optimize the power allocation when Cell Discontinuous Transmission is used by the base stations. In a second step, we propose a solution in order to improve the performance of Internet of Things networks used for the electrical grid. More precisely, we use multi-armed bandit algorithm for channel selection in IoT networks as a means of increasing the reliability of communications

Abstract:
Internet addiction has been the subject of numerous studies worldwide, during the last twenty years. Yet, no consensus on its definition or diagnosis criteria has been admitted, which therefore is triggering numerous debates. The present research aims to study the conceptualization of Internet addiction mainly through its assessment tools, and to fill in the lack of empirical data among French samples.Study 1 - Aim: To assess the measurement tools for Internet addiction and their psychometric properties. Results: Forty-five tools assessing Internet addiction were identified, of which only seventeen had been evaluated more than once in terms of their psychometric properties. Most of the existing scales for Internet addiction require further validation work. Despite criticism, the Internet Addiction Test (IAT) appears to be the scale with the most empirical support. However, numerous promising scales warrant further examination.Study 2 - Aim: To evaluate the psychometric properties of the Online Cognition Scale (OCS). Results: Confirmatory factorial analyses showed that the 4-factor solution did not demonstrate satisfactory fit but the 5-factor model was found to better fit the data. Our results revealed that the scale scores demonstrated excellent internal consistency and satisfying inter-item correlation and test-retest reliability. The OCS was significantly correlated with the IAT, time spent online and depressive symptoms at both time points.Study 3 - Aim: To evaluate the psychometric properties of the Generalized Problematic Internet Use Scale-2 and the relevance of the Generalized Problematic Internet Use (GPIU) model among French users. Results: Path analysis provided support for this conceptual model of problematic Internet use, and a good fit to the data. The psychometric properties of the French version of the GPIUS-2 were satisfying, including reliability, concurrent and convergent validities, suggesting the usefulness of this multidimensional tool.Study 4 - Aim: To explore the relationship between GPIU and Specific Problematic Internet Uses (SPIU) Results: Our analysis revealed significant relationships between GPIU, psychopathological symptoms and most of SPIU, with many differences according to gender and age. SPIUcommunication scores significantly predict GPIU scores among the whole sample, whereas SPIUinformation seeking and gaming, and depressive symptoms were only significant among women, men and young adults, and SPIUconsumption of video/music and time spent online, among women and young adults

Abstract:
Our object of study is the numerical document, in particular taking into consideration use of members of the university community brought more and more to produce some. The actual situation requires the use of open and shared specifications to produce and describe the numerical documents (we present the specifications in the educational field). Our approach is based on the production in autonomous mode of the numerical documents. This production is favoured according to us by the new characteristics of the document (numerical), by the possibilities of generation automated in a standardized context. We pose the following assumption : in the numerical context, in particular in the numerical work environments (ENT), teachers produce, diffuse and use numerical documents, in particular for a teaching context. Our problem is thus to see how they could do it in a standardized way. Our demonstration is based on a study of the specifications in order to check their applicability according to the principle of production in autonomous mode (and semi autonomous) and on a study of the uses in progress (starting from an investigation) near members of the university community (Aquitaine, France). Our work thus consists in contributing to the reflexion in progress on the numerical document in particular in a standardized form for the teaching context at the University

Abstract:

Abstract:
Thesis (MBA (Business Management))--Stellenbosch University, 2008.
The objective of this specific research report is to analyse the internet marketing function within the South African tourism industry. Furthermore, the hotel industry is analysed to establish how the introduction of the internet changed the playing field in terms of marketing and how customer behaviour has changed over the past 13 years with the introduction of the internet to the already established global distribution systems (GOS) and computer reservation systems (CRS). An in-depth literature review is conducted to analyse the marketing function in general, after which an analysis in terms of production and services organisation is discussed. Here, the focus is on the 4 P and 7 P marketing mix theories of Michael Porter. The influence of the internet on the service marketing mix is discussed with specific reference to the luxury hotel industry. The specific research and interviews conducted in this study are focused on the luxury hotel industry in the Cape Town city area. Abstract:
AbstractCompared with Norwegian kindergartens that emphasize how outdoor activity benefits young children’s integrated development, Chinese kindergartens reluctantly encourage children to go outside for long time. A county named Anji in South China’s Zhejiang province has started to change this approach to outdoor play. Kindergartens there provide outdoor equipment to support children’s outdoor activities for longer periods of time. This approach is called Anji Play and has been recommended by Chinese Ministry of Education for all of the country. It has also attracted ECE experts overseas. In this chapter, we describe and analyse children’s outdoor play in an Anji setting and in a Norwegian kindergarten from the perspective of the utilisation and design of kindergarten outdoor space. The study takes an ethnographic approach. We collected photo observations, anecdotal recording and interviews from one kindergarten in Bergen, Norway and one in Anji, China. The observation results focusing on outdoor play in the two kindergartens were discussed with kindergarten teachers, principals, professors and college students from China and Norway. Our aim was to interpret the core concepts, goals and concerns of Norwegian and Anji play from multiple perspectives to understand children’s cultural formation in the two cultural contexts. We found the cultural values and traditions influence how outdoor play is performed and there are clear links between culture and children’s cultural formation.

Abstract:
The chapter reports on research that was done in information systems at the University of Cape Town on the benefits of Internet utilisation and the barriers to its adoption amongst small businesses in South Africa. It addresses how these small businesses in a developing country perceive the potential benefits of e-commerce and look at their consequent adoption of e-commerce activities in their own organizations. Comparisons are made between studies conducted in first world countries, particularly regarding the role of government initiatives. A secondary aim of this research was to determine the current level of e-commerce adoption by small businesses in South Africa. This was achieved by circulating a questionnaire to test the perception of e-commerce benefits and e-commerce adoption levels amongst small businesses from various sectors in South Africa. If the global usage of the Internet for electronic commerce by small businesses is compared to the South African situation, this research clearly indicates that the available technologies are not adopted to the extent that is necessary for survival in a rapidly changing environment.

Abstract:
The utilisation of digital devices and technologies is an integral part of children’s daily lives. Besides the multiple opportunities associated to online environment, like education entertainment and communication, it has also been associated with various risks like grooming and cyber bullying. It is therefore important to assess the level of risk, mediation and digital literacy among children as they form the most vulnerable part of the society. We therefore in this chapter introduce a novel approach to analysing digital children’s right by viewing it from the human right perspectives, where we focus and extensively discuss on digital child rights as they relate to digital divide, technological access, gender issues, internet opportunities and risks, previous studies, policies and rights, frameworks as well as rights of children as a human right.

Abstract:
The rapid uptake of technology offers potentially innovative approaches to promoting mental health amongst young people, addressing a significant public health challenge. The advent of Web 2.0 has seen a shift from text heavy content to the development of communities that foster connectivity. This area of research, its potential to engage young people at risk of isolation, and the mental health benefits it may have, has received little attention. This chapter considers evidence regarding technology’s role in mental health promotion, particularly for marginalised young people. Results are presented from an Australian study, “Bridging the Digital Divide,” which investigated technology access and utilisation by young people experiencing marginalisation. Finally, Australian policy regarding the digital divide and Internet safety is reviewed. The authors conclude that policy responses should move beyond just access and safety and explore innovative ways of ensuring safe and supportive online communities accessible for all young people.

Abstract:
Video streaming is expected to acquire a massive share of the global internet traffic in the near future. Meanwhile, it is expected that most of the global traffic will be carried over wireless networks. This trend translates into considerable challenges for Service Providers (SP) in terms of maintaining consumers' Quality of Experience (QoE), energy consumption, utilisation of wireless resources, and profitability. However, the majority of Radio Resource Allocation (RRA) algorithms only consider enhancing Quality of Service (QoS) and network parameters. Since this approach may end up with unsatisfied customers in the future, it is essential to develop innovative RRA algorithms that adopt a user-centric approach based on users' QoE. This chapter focus on wireless video over Critical communication systems that are inspired by QoE perceived by end users. This chapter presents a background to introduce the reader to this area, followed by a review of the related up-to-date literature.

Abstract:
Considering a Flow Shop production line in an Industry 4.0 setting where the Cyber-Physical System (CPS) and Internet of Things (IoTs) can be deployed, a newly Performance-based Decentralised Dispatching Rule (PDDR) is proposed. It combines known dispatching rules with the knowledge of the monitored production system state. The goal is to provide a novel dispatching rule based on production line performance oversight. The governance system considers the machine condition in terms of machine utilisation. Regarding the assessment scenario, the proposed rule has been tested and compared with the well-known Short Processing Time (SPT) and the First-In-First-Out (FIFO) rule in a higher generality way by taking into account unforeseen events that may occur in production (such as breakdowns, potential rework, micro-stops, and unplanned machine setups). The simulation results showed interesting results where the flexibility of this rule, as well as its practical use with real hypotheses are its main advantages.

Abstract:
The aim of this research was to develop a scale that could evaluate an individuals confidence in using the Internet. Web-based resources are becoming increasingly important within higher education and it is therefore vital that students and staff feel confident and competent in the access, provision, and utilisation of these resources. The scale developed here represents an extension of previous research (Cassidy & Eachus, 2002) that developed a measure of self-efficacy in the context of computer use. An iterative approach was used in the development of the Web User SelfEfficacy scale (WUSE) and the participants were recruited from the student body of a large University in the North West of the United Kingdom, and globally via a web site set up for this purpose. Initial findings suggest that the scale has acceptable standards of reliability and validity though work is continuing to refine the scale and improve the psychometric properties of the tool.

The iWindCr system, designed and developed to comprise miniaturised corrosion sensors to form a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), has been piloted in one of the 116 offshore wind turbines located in the south region of the UK. The iWindCr system that was equipped with low power-low current sensor interface incorporating the Open Circuit Potential (OCP) and Zero Resistance Ammeter (ZRA) electrochemical technique analysis and the Internet of Things (IoT) was employed to detect and/or monitor electrochemical activities in relation to corrosion on the surface of the M72 stud, part of the monopole (MP) foundation and transition piece (TP) flanged connection of the wind turbine. Through the utilisation of the corrosion threshold database that has been extensively generated also through this project for various materials and environment of wind turbine components, the state of corrosion or damage of the M72 stud can be determined. The provision of the corrosion threshold data could also allow for life prediction.

Abstract:
In most disciplines, research findings take a long time to filter into practice, if they ever do at all. The result of this is under-utilisation of research results and sub-optimal practices. There are a number of reasons for the lack of knowledge transfer. Firstly, practitioners don’t have the time to keep up with the latest research%in professional practice, there is little time available to read academic journals. Once they have completed their formal education, they tend to rely on tacit knowledge acquired through experience rather than explicit knowledge in the form of academic research. In addition, the volume and geometric growth of research literature results in a massive problem of information overload%it is not humanly possible for practitioners (and challenging even for full-time researchers) to keep up with all the research published in their field. From the “supply side”, academic research is primarily focused on the production rather than distribution of knowledge%there is little investment in the distribution of research results beyond academic communities. The Internet provides a potential solution to this problem, in that it provides a common information infrastructure for connecting those who produce knowledge (researchers) and those who need tc apply it (practitioners). This paper describes two projects which use the Internet to make research results directly available to practitioners in the workplace. The first is a project in a health department which provides medical staff with on-line access to the latest medical research at the point of care. The second is a project currently in progress to implement a similar system to support IS practitioners. Finally, we draw some general lessons about how to improve transfers of knowledge from research and practice, which could be applied in any discipline.

Abstract:
NOx pollution from Diesel engines causes over 10 000 premature deaths annually and the trend is increasing. In order to decrease this growing global problem, exhaust after-treatment systems for Diesel engines have to be improved. The most common SCR systems in the market place inject an aqueous Urea solution, DEF that evaporates prior the catalytic surface of the SCR-catalyst. Due to a catalytic reaction within the catalyst, NOx is converted nominally into Nitrogen and Water. Currently, the evaporative process is enhanced by aggressive mixer plates and long flow paths; these, negatively, create extra exhaust back pressure and cool the exhaust gases decreasing engine and catalyst efficiency. To achieve future emission legislation targets SCR efficiency has to be improved especially under low catalyst temperature conditions, plus Ammonia slip has to be avoided as it is now legislated against. Swedish Biomimetic’s novel μMist® platform technology, inspired by the Bombardier Beetle, injects a hot, effervescent, finely atomised, highly dispersed spray plume of DEF into the exhaust stream. This is achieved by raising the temperature of the DEF, in a closed volume, above its saturated vapour pressure. The DEF is then rapidly released creating effervescent atomisation. This study investigates a back to back study of the evaporating and mixing behaviour of the μMist® injector and a class leading DEF injector. The test conditions are with and without a mixer plate and the use of two different flow path designs. Spray distribution across the face of the catalyst is assessed by measuring NOx conversion whilst Ammonia slip is also measured post catalyst. This report describes how the novel μMist® injector significantly increases NOx conversion and catalyst surface usage whilst considerably reducing Ammonia slip.

Abstract:
Aim/Purpose: The goal of this study is to advance understanding of ICT utilization by SMMEs by checking access, ability (in terms of technological skills) and usage of ICT among some SMMEs entrepreneurs operating their businesses in an underdeveloped areas to enhance their business activities in order to utilizes the digital opportunities 21st century digital economies present. Background: In today’s world no nation or region is untouched by the forces of globalization and digital economy. One of the key pioneering forces of globalization is the advances of ICT like internet, social networks, etc. In the sphere of business, this pioneering force has also altered the way businesses and organizations communicate and interact with customers and society at large. Such alternation presents obvious opportunities for wealth creation and growth for businesses and organizations that are well-equipped to take advantages of them. But for those that are less-equipped, particularly SMMEs, globalization can easily lead to fore-closures and marginalization. It is a common knowledge that SMMEs entrepreneurs mostly rely on ICT gadgets like mobile phone, Laptops, Tablets to conduct their business activities as many of them don’t have enough capital to set up offices with necessary equipment. Therefore, using various ICT functions/programs on these ICT devices to enhance their business activities are critical to their businesses in the 21st century digital economies. Methodology: Purposeful sampling was used to approach fifty-four SMMEs entrepreneurs operating their businesses in underdeveloped areas locally called Townships in Buffalo City Metropolitan. Microsoft excel was used in the descriptive statistics. Contribution: This research will add to the growing knowledge ICT usage in SMMEs in the 21st century digital economies. Findings: The results indicate that the participating SMMEs entrepreneurs need to be educated, trained and supported in the use of the ICT applicable to enhance their business activities in order for them to take advantages of 21st century digital economies present. Recommendations for Practitioners: The agencies tasked with looking after SMMEs in South Africa needs to consider the lacked of utilisation of ICTs by SMMEs entrepreneurs operating their businesses in underdeveloped areas as one of the barrier to growing of their businesses and take necessary steps to address it. Recommendation for Researchers: Since age and gender have been proven to be key-moderating variables in many technology acceptance models. There is a need to explore in depth whether the factors of gender and age also act as barriers. Impact on Society: The research will assist stakeholders, policy makers and agencies tasked with looking after SMMEs to identify the barriers hindering SMMEs to grow and address them accordingly. Future Research: More work needs to be done to check whether gender, age of the SMMEs entrepreneurs have some effects on their attitude towards the integration of ICT into their business activities.

Abstract:
Within an industrial setting, mesh adaptation has so far found very limited use. This is, in part, due to the complexity of the geometries and flow features that are to be dealt with. However, the successful utilisation of grid modification techniques, could help engineers achieve more accurate estimates of quantities of interest quickly and efficiently. For this reason, in this paper, adjoint error mesh adaptation technology is developed and applied to steady-3D turbo-machinery solutions. The grid modification strategy proposed comprises of a combined mesh movement and mesh refinement procedure, entirely based on errors related to the functional of interest. The node addition scheme makes use of the output to the flow adjoint solver and an interpolation to an embedded grid. The determined error is used in an edge-refinement approach developed in the in-house MeshPost software. The mesh relocation technique, instead, employs the sensitivity of the functional of interest with respect to the nodes’ coordinates to compute a Riemmannian metric. This parameter is then equi-distributed over the mesh by applying a spring-stiffness approach.

Abstract:
• Renewable energy (RE) projects in Indonesia usually have IRR between 10% and 15% and PP around 6 to 30 years • Attractive return usually could be found in large scale RE projects, although there are numerous other factors involved including technology developments, capacity scale, power purchasing price agreements, project locations, as well as interest rates and applied incentives. • Crowdfunding (CF) has big potential to contribute to the financing of RE projects especially financing small scale RE projects. • P2P lending usually targeted short-term loans with high interest rates. Therefore, it cannot be employed as an alternative financing for RE projects in Indonesia. • Three types of CF that can be employed as an alternative for RE project funding in Indonesia. Namely, securities, reward, and donation-based CF. In addition, hybrid models such as securities-reward and reward-donation could also be explored according to the project profitability. • Several benefits offer by securities crowdfunding (SCF) compared to conventional banking and P2P lending, as follows: (1) issuer do not need to pledge assets as collateral; (2) do not require to pay instalment each month; (3) issuer share risks with investors with no obligation to cover the investor’s loss; (4) applicable for micro, small, medium, enterprises (MSMEs) with no complex requirements; and (5) there is possibility to attract investors with bring specific value. • Several challenges that need to be tackled such as the uncertainty of RE regulations; (1) issuer’s inability in managing the system and business; (2) the absence of third parties in bridging between CF platform and potential issuer from RE project owner; (3) the lack of financial literacy of the potential funders; and (4) lastly the inadequacy of study regarding potential funders in escalating the RE utilisation in Indonesia.
