Abstract:
BACKGROUND: Little is known about how to effectively train residents with point-of-care ultrasonography (POCUS) despite increasing usage. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess whether handheld ultrasound devices (HUDs), alongside a year-long lecture series, improved trainee image interpretation skills with POCUS. METHODS: Internal medicine intern physicians (N = 149) at a single academic institution from 2016 to 2018 participated in the study. The 2017 interns (n = 47) were randomized 1:1 to receive personal HUDs (n = 24) for patient care vs no-HUDs (n = 23). All 2017 interns received a repeated lecture series regarding cardiac, thoracic, and abdominal POCUS. Interns were assessed on their ability to interpret POCUS images of normal/abnormal findings. The primary outcome was the difference in end-of-the-year assessment scores between interns randomized to receive HUDs vs not. Secondary outcomes included trainee scores after repeating lectures and confidence with POCUS. Intern scores were also compared with historical (2016, N = 50) and contemporaneous (2018, N = 52) controls who received no lectures. RESULTS: Interns randomized to HUDs did not have significantly higher image interpretation scores (median HUD score: 0.84 vs no-HUD score: 0.84; P = .86). However, HUD interns felt more confident in their abilities. The 2017 cohort had higher scores (median 0.84), compared with the 2016 historical control (median 0.71; P = .001) and 2018 contemporaneous control (median 0.48; P < .001). Assessment scores improved after first-time exposure to the lecture series, while repeated lectures did not improve scores. CONCLUSIONS: Despite feeling more confident, personalized HUDs did not improve interns’ POCUS-related knowledge or interpretive ability. Repeated lecture exposure without further opportunities for deliberate practice may not be beneficial for mastering POCUS.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Background Medical students’ skills in radiographic image interpretation is neither known nor assessed in the case of most medical schools in Brazil. Objective The purpose of this study was to assess intern students’ performance in the interpretation of radiographic images of the chest and abdomen. Methods A 10-item test was developed using non-contrasted radiological images from the chest and abdomen. Internship students from two public medical schools (Classroom Group, n=50) and doctors (Control Group, n=20) answered the test. A third group (Online Group, n=38) composed of students from different medical schools answered a web-based form with the same 10-item test. Results Doctors and students were able to accurately interpret only 30% of the radiographic images; 50% of the students and 30% of the doctors performed poorly. The rest produced average levels of performance. There were minimal differences between the Classroom and Online Groups. A point-by-point analysis of their answers has been presented and discussed. Conclusion Efforts must be made, including the framing of medical curricula interventions, to improve student interns’ skills in radiological image interpretation.

Abstract:
Abstract Background Point-of-care ultrasound has emerged as a powerful diagnostic tool and is also being increasingly used by clinicians to guide procedures. Many current and future internists desire training, yet no formal, multiple-application, program-wide teaching interventions have been described. Intervention We describe a structured 30-hour ultrasound training course in diagnostic and procedural ultrasound implemented during intern orientation. Internal medicine interns learned basic ultrasound physics and machine skills; focused cardiac, great vessel, pulmonary, and abdominal ultrasound diagnostic examinations; and procedural applications. Results In postcourse testing, learners demonstrated the ability to acquire images, had significantly increased knowledge scores (P < .001), and demonstrated good performance on practical scenarios designed to test abilities in image acquisition, interpretation, and incorporation into medical decision making. In the postcourse survey, learners strongly agreed (4.6 of 5.0) that ultrasound skills would be valuable during residency and in their careers. Conclusions A structured ultrasound course can increase knowledge and can result in learners who have skills in image acquisition, interpretation, and integration in management. Future work will focus on refining and improving these skills to allow these learners to be entrusted with the use of ultrasound independently for patient care decisions.

ABSTRACT Background There is insufficient knowledge about how personal access to handheld ultrasound devices (HUDs) improves trainee learning with point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS). Objective To assess whether HUDs, alongside a yearlong lecture series, improved trainee POCUS usage and ability to acquire images. Methods Internal medicine intern physicians (n = 47) at a single institution from 2017 to 2018 were randomized 1:1 to receive personal HUDs (n = 24) for patient care/self-directed learning vs no-HUDs (n = 23). All interns received a repeated lecture series on cardiac, thoracic, and abdominal POCUS. Main outcome measures included self-reported HUD usage rates and post-intervention assessment scores using the Rapid Assessment of Competency in Echocardiography (RACE) scale between HUD and no-HUD groups. Results HUD interns reported performing POCUS assessments on patients a mean 6.8 (SD 2.2) times per week vs 6.4 (SD 2.9) times per week in non-HUD arm (P = .66). There was no relationship between the number of self-reported examinations per week and a trainee's post-intervention RACE score (rho = 0.022, P = .95). HUD interns did not have significantly higher post-intervention RACE scores (median HUD score 17.0 vs no-HUD score 17.8; P = .72). Trainee confidence with cardiac POCUS did not correlate with RACE scores. Conclusions Personal HUDs without direct supervision did not increase the amount of POCUS usage or improve interns' acquisition abilities. Interns who reported performing more examinations per week did not have higher RACE scores. Improved HUD access and lectures without additional feedback may not improve POCUS mastery.

Abstract:
Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a leading cause of low vision and blindness. We evaluated the feasibility of using a handheld, noncontact digital retinal camera, Pictor, to obtain retinal images in dilated and undilated eyes for DR screening. We also evaluated the accuracy of ophthalmologists with different levels of training/experience in grading these images to identify eyes with vision-threatening DR. Methods: A prospective study of diabetic adults scheduled to have dilated eye exams at Duke Eye Center from January to May 2014 was conducted. An imager acquired retinal images pre- and postdilation with Pictor and selected 1 pre- and 1 postdilation image per eye. Five masked ophthalmologists graded images for gradability (based on image focus and centration) and the presence of no, mild, moderate, or severe nonproliferative DR (NPDR) or proliferative DR (PDR). Referable disease was defined as moderate or severe NPDR or PDR on image grading. We evaluated feasibility based on the graders’ evaluation of image gradability. We evaluated accuracy of identifying vision-threatening disease (severe NPDR or PDR documented on dilated clinical examination) based on the graders’ sensitivity and specificity of grading referable disease. Results: Images were gradable in 86-94% of predilation and 94-97% of postdilation photos. Compared to the dilated clinical exam, overall sensitivity for identifying vision-threatening DR was 64-88% and specificity was 71-90%. Conclusions: Pictor can capture retinal images of sufficient quality to screen for DR with and without dilation. Single retinal images obtained using Pictor can identify eyes with vision-threatening DR with high sensitivity and acceptable specificity compared to clinical exam.

Abstract:
In the essay, it carried out the visual analysis of the famous painting by I. Bosch, “Cure of Folly (Stone Operation),” which deals with the allegory of surgical cure for mental disorders. The literal embodiment of the metaphor and paths of insanity of both the patient and the quack doctor are included in the wide tradition of the early renaissance. The author follows the method of sequential analysis of visual images from a dense description of the visual series to the reconstruction of the meanings of the symbolic order and socio-cultural interpretation. The image of genre scene with the doctor, the patient and observers is structured through a rounded tondo method and combined with a textual frame in the style of the Gothic fracture, which refers to the client’s personal heraldic coat of arms. The bricolage of allegorical words and images complements each other and creates an intertextual space of meaning, to which semantic incongruity becomes a vehicle — flowers instead of expected stones. The hermeneutic tradition that has developed around the work of I. Bosch contradictory interpret this scene — from lithotomy by medical historians to a flower as an image of voluptuousness or a flower of wisdom (as a visual allegory of a philosopher's stone, elixir). But, the interpretation of the flower as a heraldic lily becomes more appropriate, taking into account the addressee of the picture, the reputation of customers and the rhyme of the formal characteristics of the picture with the style of the coat of arms of the customer. Bosch's painting with its hidden moral message is addressed to influential customers, metaphorically combining the meanings of folly stones and symbols of power.

Abstract:
Competition for talent is heating up and will probably intensify, since demographic trends make it increasingly difficult for companies to replace valued employees when they retire. In response, many companies are trying to sharpen the way they market themselves to recruits, by applying branding techniques to recruitment. For a company to exploit its brand effectively when it fishes for talent, it must think of recruits as customers, determine which corporate attributes matter most to specific types of recruits, and understand how best to reach them. This diploma thesis analyzes Belgian business graduates' aspirations in terms of first employment and their perception of our company as potential employer and brings constructive and creative recommendations on how to improve its position as employer of choice.

Abstract: The aim of the work is to analyse different factors that make some information more salient than others during the process of brasilian digital newspaper reading. Two different types of salience are being considered: visual salience and subjective salience. The possibility of constructing visual salience during the process of hypertext construction questions the widely accepted idea that hypertext offers a total freedom of choice to readers. We believe that the reader's choice for specific links or informations may be highly influenced by the visual salience constructed for instance through the specific size of images and location in the screen. However, to understand the choices of links or informations during the reading process one must also considerate the role of more subjetive factors: the personal history of the reader or his/her purpose for reading may also affect issues realized as relevant during reading. Such perception may also guide his/her choices. We label this second type of salience as subjective salience. The empirical study offers some example of both types of salience

The reputation of an organization is composed of perceptions of its internal public - direct and indirect employees - and its external stakeholders - customers, suppliers, the media, local community (Davies, Chun, Silva & Roper 2001). In business-to-business industrial sector organizations, most employees have no direct contact with external stakeholders (suppliers, among others). Thus, it could be expected that internal communication had no impact on the opinion that external stakeholders have about the organizations. This dissertation seeks to understand whether there is a link between internal communication and organizational reputation of an industrial company in the logistics sector and automotive components production. To map and strengthen perceptions of internal communication, organizational reputation and the link between the two constructs, it was conducted a qualitative study consisting of semi-structured interviews to the director general, the director of human resources, six employees of the organization who contact directly with different stakeholders and a supplier. The results indicate that there are links between internal communication and the organization's reputation, both in terms of identity (perceptions of employees) as image (perceptions of external stakeholders).

We chose deep interviews to give the respondents an opportunity to speak freely about the subject from their perspective. Empirical foundation: Our empirical material is based upon interviews with people who have strategic positions and marketing related titles. Conclusions: Our research concludes that the employees of an organization need to be included in the rebranding process and that their vision of the corporative activities are crucial in how external stakeholders perceive the changes. It is also necessary to have clearly defined goals and that research on all levels is a must in order to succeed.

Abstract:
X-ray test is a fast, simple, non-destructive, high-precision test that allows you to examine in detail the internal morphology of the seed, identify damaged areas, their location and types of damage. One of the current approaches to X-ray seed imaging research is to ascertain the extent to which the relationship between the degree of embryonic development and the available space in the internal cavity of the seeds is associated with seed performance. In the literature there are several works with promising results for different species; however, this information is scarce for citrus seeds. In this sense, the objectives of this research were: a) to evaluate the efficiency of the X-ray test in relation to the internal morphology of the seeds with the germination of \'Swingle\' citrumelo seeds; b) to verify the possibility of using the X-ray test to evaluate the polyembryony of the \'Swingle\' citrumelo seeds; c) to verify if there is a relation of free space in the internal cavity with the performance of \'Swingle\' citrumelo seeds. Seven lots of treated \'Swingle\' citrumelo seeds were used, the research was divided into three experiments: experiment I - evaluation of the internal morphology of seeds by X-ray; experiment II - evaluation of seed polyembryony by X-ray test; experiment III - evaluation of the physiological potential of the seeds by traditional tests of vigor and evaluation of the free space of the internal cavity of the seeds by of ImageJ software. The first and second experiments were conducted at a time of evaluation, but the third experiment was conducted in two seasons, spaced in eight months of storage (0 and 8 months), during which time the seeds were stored cold chamber with temperature of 5 °C and relative humidity of 75 %. The X-ray test was performed in the three experiments and related to germination, but in experiment II it was also related to the direct method (counting of the embryos) and in experiment III the radiographic images were analyzed by of the ImageJ software to determine the space of the seeds. In order to determine the physiological potential, seed lots were submitted to germination and vigor tests (first germination count, speed of germination, mean time germination, emergence of seedlings in sand, length and dry mass of aerial part and root of seedlings), we also evaluated the average number of seedlings per seed and the polyembryony rate of each lot. It was verified that X-ray image analysis allows identification of internal damage in the seed with negative effects on germination; is an efficient method to evaluate the polyembryony of the seeds; and the high percentage of seeds with internal free space greater than 22.1% impairs the germination potential of \'Swingle\' citrumelo seeds.

Abstract:

God kommunikation

Hänsyn till kundens kund

Dubbelriktat lärande

Planering är ett inlärningsförlopp

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter explores a series of thought experiments for an investigation of what one casually calls the image. In this endeavor, images will be rendered as bodies compiled from versions of themselves (bodies of images), explored embedded in dissemination processes (memeplexes), and hence contoured as highly effective structures with sophisticated potential for transformation (image objects). Basing on three major theoretical concepts (meme theory, object-oriented ontology, and network effects), this re-interrogation of the image is the suggestion of a reading of images as entities that actively, or inactively, form structural assemblages and maintain energetic human and non-human constellations which shape the present. At the close of the exploration, a professional habitus is sketched in which art educators are experts for image relations.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter examines the concept of the poor image in relation to a contemporary, critical art education. Coined by Hito Steyerl in 2009, the term describes digital, sometimes poorly resolved image copies, which are proliferating on the internet, often deprived of any context or image information. These new visual forms are accompanied by a shift in the way images are used and reflected, which in turn is central to post-internet art education. The article examines the term poor image and, in a second step, situates it in a contemporary teaching practice. In doing so, the author investigates its performative potential and speculates on how pictorial poorness may lead to pedagogical richness.

This paper proposes and evaluates a new framework for website image manipulation and its protection using ASP.NET framework in watermarking technique. The proposed framework shows how to protect the valuable website images from the unauthorized users and to preserve web server’s bandwidth by preventing other unauthorized websites from directly linking to the images of the authorized web server. This framework effectively preserves the quality of the website image by embedding JPEG file metadata as EXIF tags in website images. This framework provides additional features to users, such as rotate, colors, and contrasts, and also reduces installation time required by supplementary software for image manipulation. The results show that ASP.NET framework in watermarking technique for Image manipulation and protection are encouraging.

Abstract:
Internal waves have been observed by lots of high resolution satellite images, such as Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and optical images of SPOT and Landsat. These images are usually expensive. In this study, some free but lower spatial resolution satellite images are applied to observe the internal wave phenomena. The internal waves in the Sulu Sea are detected from the Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) onboard the Orbview-2 satellite. The SeaWiFS image has a spatial resolution of 1.1 km. It is acceptable to observe the internal wave phenomena while the soliton width is larger than the image resolution. The results show that the internal solitary in the Sulu Sea can be observed successfully with SeaWiFS chlorophyll images. The internal waves in the Sulu Sea have amplitudes of 10 to 90 m and wavelengths of 5 to 16 km. The large-amplitude internal solitary waves may significantly influence the near-surface chlorophyll concentration. The chlorophyll concentration would be lower when the depression internal waves passed through. A theoretic model is proposed and tested to estimate the amplitudes of internal waves from chlorophyll concentration images.

Abstract:
This paper describes an innovative apparatus and method that has been developed to volumetrically examine dielectric materials, including high density polyethylene piping fusion joints. The method employs a first of a kind apparatus that is based on the creation of an image using electromagnetic energy in the microwave frequency range. The results of comprehensive laboratory testing and actual field inspection of HDPE thermal fusions using the microwave method and apparatus are presented. The specimens examined included both sound thermal fusions and those that included different types of internal flaws that commonly occur in industrial application. Through this research and field application, the apparatus has been shown capable of detecting the presence of internal flaws, such as lack of fusion (i.e. - cold fusion) and inclusions. Also, thickness changes and voids in the HDPE pipe base material were detected and imaged. The results of the NDE technique are compared to mechanical pull test validation. Finally, the scan images of the PE pipe thermal fusions are compared to theoretical fusion microstructure. Relationships between the HDPE fusion images and the basic fusion microstructure are developed.

Abstract:
Abstract Investigations of the fuel injection process for large bore natural gas engines are performed on an off-engine test fixture. Two types of fuel injectors are studied, a low pressure (0.39 MPa) and a high pressure (3.5 MPa) gas injection valve. Planar laser induced fluorescence is implemented to image fuel jet concentration. The fuel jet from each injector is imaged from the start of injection though their valve-open duration. Effects of injection pressure, piston interaction, and injection event repeatability are investigated. The results are related to previous engine studies of high pressure fuel injection and Schlieren photography of in-cylinder events on a Cooper-Bessemer GMV large bore natural gas engines. The images indicate that the low pressure valve achieves more effective mixing during jet penetration. The high pressure injection event shows relatively little mixing during jet penetration. However, the high pressure jet has much more energy when it impinges on the piston. It is evident that the important time for mixing using high pressure injection occurs after piston impingement.

Abstract:
Abstract As a mature flow field measurement technology, particle image velocimetry (PIV) has been widely used to calculate the instantaneous motion of particles by identifying and comparing the positions of tracer particles between successive image frames. For example, the ambient air velocity distributions around fuel spray can be measured using LIF-PIV However, due to the need to accurately identify the tracer particles, PIV is limited in its applications, such as measuring the flow field in turbid media. Optical flow calculates apparent velocities of movement of brightness patterns in an image. Different from PIV, optical flow segments images into regions that corresponds to different objects without requirement of tracer particles. Since it is based on brightness patterns, optical flow may be widely used in measuring flow field in the area of fuel spray and in-cylinder combustion. To check the accuracy and robustness of optical flow, this study will calculate the 2-dimensional velocity fields of the same PIV image sequences using iterative optical flow and PIV respectively. Using PIV results as criterions, precision and accuracy of optical flow are studied.

Abstract:
Image reconstruction is the transformation process from some other data forms to image pixels. It can be utilized as a method to retrieve material composition information in materials characterization and design. In our previous work, a so-called surfacelet model was proposed to construct the geometric boundary and internal material distribution of heterogeneous materials at the same time. A surfacelet transform is able to efficiently represent boundary information in images of materials. In this paper, new constrained-conjugate-gradient-based image reconstruction methods are proposed as the inverse surfacelet transform. With geometric constraints on internal boundaries of materials, the proposed method is able to automatically identify the locations and orientations of the internal boundaries based on prior knowledge so as to reconstruct material composition with incomplete data.

Abstract:
Abstract The growth of the Internet over the past four years provides the failure analyst with a new media for communicating his results. The new digital media offers significant advantages over analog publication of results. Digital production, distribution and storage of failure analysis results reduces copying costs and paper storage, and enhances the ability to search through old analyses. When published digitally, results reach the customer within minutes of finishing the report. Furthermore, images on the computer screen can be of significantly higher quality than images reproduced on paper. The advantages of the digital medium come at a price, however. Research has shown that employees can become less productive when replacing their analog methodologies with digital methodologies. Today's feature-filled software encourages "futzing," one cause of the productivity reduction. In addition, the quality of the images and ability to search the text can be compromised if the software or the analyst does not understand this digital medium. This paper describes a system that offers complete digital production, distribution and storage of failure analysis reports on the Internet. By design, this system reduces the futzing factor, enhances the ability to search the reports, and optimizes images for display on computer monitors. Because photographic images are so important to failure analysis, some digital image optimization theory is reviewed.

Abstract:
Abstract In this paper we discuss the role of different image segmentation methods that are used for the analysis of the micro computed tomography (micro-CT) data of damage in the carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites due to low velocity impact. Segmentation is one of the most critical steps in the image processing of the three dimensional (3D) CT data and accurate assessment of the damage from CT data depends to a great extent on the image segmentation. We have extensively studied low velocity impact damage in the CFRP composites using 3D CT. CFRP textile composite laminates were impacted using an Instron 8200 Dynatup drop-weight impact machine. ZEISS METROTOM 1500 CT scanner was used to evaluate internal impact damage. VGStudio MAX was used for reconstruction of CT images. Different segmentation procedures were used during image processing of the CT images. Differences in the estimates of the damage zone obtained using different segmentation techniques have been assessed.

Abstract:
This paper focuses on the real-world automatic makeup problem. Given one non-makeup target image and one reference image, the automatic makeup is to generate one face image, which maintains the original identity with the makeup style in the reference image. In the real-world scenario, face makeup task demands a robust system against the environmental variants. The two main challenges in real-world face makeup could be summarized as follow: first, the background in real-world images is complicated. The previous methods are prone to change the style of background as well; second, the foreground faces are also easy to be affected. For instance, the ``heavy'' makeup may lose the discriminative information of the original identity. To address these two challenges, we introduce a new makeup model, called Identity Preservation Makeup Net (IPM-Net), which preserves not only the background but the critical patterns of the original identity. Specifically, we disentangle the face images to two different information codes, i.e., identity content code and makeup style code. When inference, we only need to change the makeup style code to generate various makeup images of the target person. In the experiment, we show the proposed method achieves not only better accuracy in both realism (FID) and diversity (LPIPS) in the test set, but also works well on the real-world images collected from the Internet.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the peculiarities of the media content shaping and transformation in the convergent dimension of cross-media, taking into account the possibilities of augmented reality. With the help of the principles of objectivity, complexity and reliability in scientific research, a number of general scientific and special methods are used: method of analysis, synthesis, generalization, method of monitoring, observation, problem-thematic, typological and discursive methods. According to the form of information presentation, such types of media content as visual, audio, verbal and combined are defined and characterized. The most important in journalism is verbal content, it is the one that carries the main information load. The dynamic development of converged media leads to the dominance of image and video content; the likelihood of increasing the secondary content of the text increases. Given the market situation, the effective information product is a combined content that combines text with images, spreadsheets with video, animation with infographics, etc. Increasing number of new media are using applications and website platforms to interact with recipients. To proceed, the peculiarities of the new content of new media with the involvement of augmented reality are determined. Examples of successful interactive communication between recipients, the leading news agencies and commercial structures are provided. The conditions for effective use of VR / AR-technologies in the media content of new media, the involvement of viewers in changing stories with augmented reality are determined. The so-called immersive effect with the use of VR / AR-technologies involves complete immersion, immersion of the interested audience in the essence of the event being relayed. This interaction can be achieved through different types of VR video interactivity. One of the most important results of using VR content is the spatio-temporal and emotional immersion of viewers in the plot. The recipient turns from an external observer into an internal one; but his constant participation requires that the user preferences are taken into account. Factors such as satisfaction, positive reinforcement, empathy, and value influence the choice of VR / AR content by viewers.

Abstract:
An approach to increasing sensor performance and detection reliability for buried objects is to better understand which physical processes are dominant under certain environmental conditions. The present effort (Phase 2) builds on our previously published prior effort (Phase 1), which examined methods of determining the probability of detection and false alarm rates using thermal infrared for buried-object detection. The study utilized a 3.05 × 3.05 m test plot in Hanover, New Hampshire. Unlike Phase 1, the current effort involved removing the soil from the test plot area, homogenizing the material, then reapplying it into eight discrete layers along with buried sensors and objects representing targets of inter-est. Each layer was compacted to a uniform density consistent with the background undisturbed density. Homogenization greatly reduced the microscale soil temperature variability, simplifying data analysis. The Phase 2 study spanned May–November 2018. Simultaneous measurements of soil temperature and moisture (as well as air temperature and humidity, cloud cover, and incoming solar radiation) were obtained daily and recorded at 15-minute intervals and coupled with thermal infrared and electro-optical image collection at 5-minute intervals.
