Mason, Robert T. "Interoperability Gap Challenges for Learning Object Repositories & Learning Management Systems." NSUWorks, 2011. http://nsuworks.nova.edu/gscis_etd/231.

Full text
Abstract:
An interoperability gap exists between Learning Management Systems (LMSs) and Learning Object Repositories (LORs). Learning Objects (LOs) and the associated Learning Object Metadata (LOM) that is stored within LORs adhere to a variety of LOM standards. A common LOM standard found in LORs is the Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) Content Aggregation Model (CAM). In contrast, LMSs are independent computer systems that manage and deliver course content to students via a web interface. This research addressed three important issues related to the interoperability gap: (a) a lack of a metadata standard that defined the format of how student assessment data should be communicated from LMSs to LORs, (b) a lack of an architectural standard for the movement of data from LMSs to LORs, and (c) a lack of middleware that facilitated the movement of the student assessment data from the LMSs to LORs. This research achieved the following objectives: (a) the SCORM CAM LOM standard was extended to facilitate the storage of student assessment data, (b) Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) was identified as the best architecture to resolve the interoperability gap between LMSs and LORs, (c) a panel of Computer Information Systems (CIS) experts participated in a five-stage, web-based, anonymous Delphi process that approved and ranked 28 functional requirements for a proposed middleware application, and (d) the functional requirements were verified via the development of a prototype that transferred student assessment data from a LMSs into the LOM of LOs that are stored within a LOR. In conclusion, the research demonstrated that there are three acceptable approaches to extending the SCORM LOM standard: (a) new metadata elements, (b) new vocabulary values, and (c) the reference of an internal or external XML file using a location element. The main accomplishments of the research were the gathering of SOA functional requirements and the development of a prototype that provided an approach for the resolution of the interoperability gap that exists between LMSs and LORs.

Abstract:
The current technological environment is evolving increasingly fast, and the development of new devices, technologies, and architectures has opened an emergent era where the digital and physical world work together. The implementation and use of systems based on a service-oriented architecture (SOA) in conjunction with the Internet of Things (IoT) and cyberphysical systems (CPS) have been extended during the last decades in numerous scenarios in industry and other domains. However, some of the major barriers to this approach are the lack of interoperability and the amount of engineering effort required for their integration.   The research presented in this thesis targets issues related to digitalization and automation. It is framed by the Industry 4.0 paradigm, which promotes the rise of efficiency and sustainability on industrial production. The interoperability between heterogeneous systems and different domains is one of the main challenges of Industry 4.0. The quest for solutions that help to increase interoperability is an important part of this research.   This thesis proposes a set of architectural design principles and tools in order to reduce engineering effort by means of finding solutions that enable autonomous integration and increase interoperability without human intervention. The research is focused on the IoT field, taking into account resource-constrained devices, system of systems integration, and data models.   A detailed investigation of various interoperability mismatch problems is presented in this thesis. The proposed solution is an adapter system that can aid in the generation of new service consumer interfaces at both compile-time and run-time. The proposed approach requires a new point of view in the service description field that can provide a holistic description of the information required for the generation of consumer interfaces. In addition, aspects related to interoperability, such as the multiple IoT frameworks in the current market, naming conventions, syntactic modeling and translation, and security, are also partially analyzed.   On a separate track, service composition in resource-constrained devices  is analyzed in terms of latency, using the orchestration provided by the Arrowhead Framework.

Abstract:
As the number of Internet-connected devices rapidly grows, it has become ever more challenging to develop and maintain purpose-made tightly integrated distributed embedded systems. Instead, the Internet of Things (IoT) approach, based on standardized interfaces and open communication protocols, enables support for various applications with the possibility of extension to provide additional services that were not necessarily available at the initial deployment. This thesis presents methods and tools for the development of standard-based Web services for the Internet of Things. Some of the key challenges in using Web services on resource-constrained devices are due to the overhead of the communication protocols, which leads to the need for greater network bandwidth, processing power, and memory usage. A common solution to these problems is to use gateways that translate between the protocols used on one end of the connection (i.e. low-capability devices) and those on the other end (i.e. powerful Web servers). However, this increases the overall complexity of the system. The work presented herein answers the following research questions: 1) Is it feasible to deploy standard Web services on IoT systems without using application layer gateways? 2) What are the trade-offs in using Web services for end-to-end interoperability of resource-constrained embedded systems? 3) What levels of efficiency and functionality can be achieved using binary coding schemes for XML data exchange? The research questions are tested by building and evaluating several prototype IoT systems. These evaluations show that the use of Web services requires more powerful hardware (i.e. CPU and RAM) and a larger form factor in exchange for better interoperability compared to the use of ad hoc application protocols. The main challenge in employing embedded Web services is the large size of the messages, which is due to the use of verbose data formats such as XML. Although it is shown that it is possible to deploy XML-based Web services on low-capability devices without application layer gateways, this approach has severe performance limitations. Using the Efficient XML Interchange (EXI) binary coding scheme overcomes some of these limitations by substantially reducing the size of the XML messages. The main outcome of this thesis is the design and implementation of a software toolkit, called EXIP, for building EXI-based embedded Web services. The trade-offs in the use of embedded Web services are likely to change in the near future as the importance of application layer interoperability increases and IoT devices become faster, more energy efficient, and equipped with more memory. The dominating importance of interoperability can be seen in highly heterogeneous systems such as energy management systems (i.e. smart grids), where embedded Web services are already in use today. With this in mind, future research directions and extensions of this work include the development of performance optimization strategies for the EXIP toolkit to foster the expansion of embedded Web services to an even wider range of IoT applications.<br>Godkänd; 2014; 20140909 (rumkyu); Nedanstående person kommer att disputera för avläggande av teknologie doktorsexamen. Glauser, Ivan. "Improving Alarm Interoperability with External Systems for a Wearable Command Unit Using Service-Oriented Architecture." Thesis, KTH, Kommunikationssystem, CoS, 2007. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:kth:diva-92027.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis investigates different aspects of implementing a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) for an alarm and crisis management system called Wearable Command Unit (WCU) developed by Saab Security Systems. The WCU system must be able to integrate easily with external systems in order to move into new markets and survive as a product. The focus of this report is a general solution for communicating alarm information from external systems to the WCU. A given requirement was that the solution must be based on SOA. Therefore, the concept of SOA is investigated and its applicability is considered for the WCU architecture. A design proposal based on a combination of open information and communication technologies was made to show how WCU may use SOA to receive alarm information from external systems. The design proposal was evaluated by a load test as well as comparing its conformance to SOA. The load test showed that the proposed solution can process incoming messages at a rate of 2 ms per message when client and server are run on the same machine. The result of the comparison showed that the WCU can, with small modifications, apply a SOA. While this thesis has only investigated the use of SOA in the context of alarm information, there is a clear trend toward integrating information for diverse systems to enable users to have better quality information. Providing first responders with the information that they need, when and where they need it can enable them to save lives, save property, and reduce the risk to the public of incidents. An important result from this thesis is the observation that a system that needs to integrate with many distinct systems can be better prepared if made SOA conformant. This requires the system to have an interface towards other systems based on platform independent protocols. Systems such as the WCU, which are based on Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), can easily add such an interface by configuring WCF in an appropriate way.<br>Detta examensarbete undersöker olika möjligheter att implementera Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) för ett larm- och krishanteringssystem kallat Wearable Command Unit (WCU) utvecklat av Saab Security Systems.

Abstract:
This dissertation document deals with the development of a project, over a span of more than two years, carried out within the scope of the Arrowhead Framework and which bears my personal contribution in several sections. The final part of the project took place during a visiting period at the university of Luleå. The Arrowhead Project is an European project, belonging to the ARTEMIS association, which aims to foster new technologies and unify the access to them into an unique framework. Such technologies include the Internet of Things phe- nomenon, Smart Houses, Electrical Mobility and renewable energy production. An application is considered compliant with such framework when it respects the Service Oriented Architecture paradigm and it is able to interact with a set of defined components called Arrowhead Core Services. My personal contribution to this project is given by the development of several user-friendly API, published in the project's main repository, and the integration of a legacy system within the Arrowhead Framework. The implementation of this legacy system was initiated by me in 2012 and, after many improvements carried out by several developers in UniBO, it has been again significantly modified this year in order to achieve compatibility. The system consists of a simulation of an urban scenario where a certain amount of electrical vehicles are traveling along their specified routes. The vehicles are con-suming their battery and, thus, need to recharge at the charging stations. The electrical vehicles need to use a reservation mechanism to be able to recharge and avoid waiting lines, due to the long recharge process. The integration with the above mentioned framework consists in the publication of the services that the system provides to the end users through the instantiation of several Arrowhead Service Producers, together with a demo Arrowhead- compliant client application able to consume such services.

Abstract:
In this work an electronic warfare system is restructured to service oriented architecture. Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a paradigm that realizes rapid and low cost system development. The most important characteristics of SOA are standard based interoperability, which allows services developed on different platforms to run together, and dynamic composition via discovery, which provides dynamic composition of application at runtime using the existing services. The old warfare system that was developed by ASELSAN Inc. contained embedded software and was designed using traditional object oriented techniques. In this thesis, we have extracted services out of the system and restructured the warfare system based on service oriented principles. In this thesis, we have focused on the dramatic effect of reusability when SOA is introduced to the electronic warfare system. To understand the effect of service orientation, the new system is evaluated in terms of line of code, memory consumption and extra CORBA interface communication overhead.

Abstract:
This Master’s Thesis examines and documents challenges related to the flexible interchange of web services within a cross-cloud Service Oriented Computing scenario (SOC).Starting with a theoretical approach, hypotheses are defined and processed to create testing scenarios for a practical examination. Both examinations are used to identify possible challenges. Next, encountered challenges are described, discussed and classified. Lastly, solution approaches to identified challenges are presented. The solution approaches concern related topics, such as service standardization, semantic methods, heuristics, and security/trust mechanisms. Several approaches to different challenges are reviewed in this particular context, to present an overview for future research on the subject. It is remarkable that there will be more service standardization in the future, but to achieve full automation it will be, on the long run, necessary to evolve and adopt more sophisticated solution approaches such as semantic methods or heuristics. This work is embedded into the framework of a research co-operation between the Linnaeus University Växjö and the University of Applied Sciences Karlsruhe. Results however are also applicable to other research scenarios.

Abstract:
The main topic of this thesis is the application of best practice methodology to the development of services in public administration and e-Government. The work focuses on interoperable services that can be integrated across departments of public administration or businesses in the private sector. In section 2 we describe the various aspects influencing the development of interoperable services in public administration using the European Interoperability Framework (EIF) as a basis for classifying interoperability dimensions. Section 3 evaluates current state of services in public administration focusing on information interoperability that addresses syntactic, structural and semantic heterogeneity. We have found that Services of Public Administration Portal (PVS) suffer from high levels of structural and syntactic heterogeneity, and we discuss possible ways to standardize service interfaces in public administration in order to improve interoperability. Creation of standardized library of services has been proposed as a possible way forward. In section 4 of the thesis we propose a methodological framework for the development of e-Government services using the best practices methods identified in the private sector domain. The main emphasis is placed on library services and its role in the lifecycle of services. Stages of lifecycle of services are decomposed into sub-phases so that they match phases in the MMDIS methodology.

Abstract:
Vidare förefaller den slutligt föreslagna lösningen vara mindre komplex än den nuvarande arkitekturen på lång sikt, men det skulle behövas en större insats och väsentliga förändringar för att uppgradera systemarkitekturen.<br>SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems have been widely used during the last decades delivering excellent results for the power network operation and management. However, some current customer requirements are for SCADA systems to integrate external components in order to perform advanced power network studies and develop both existing and new business processes. This novel viewpoint will make these systems evolve from a monolithic infrastructure towards a loosely coupled and flexible architecture. Hence, new needs have arisen with the aim of improving the system interoperability, reducing the complexity and enhancing the maintainability. This master´s thesis project presents an Interoperability Prediction Framework (IPF), that supports the architecture design process during the early stages of product development. In addition, this work has also investigated some alternative architectures, which have been modelled and verified using the previously mentioned framework. A first conceptual architecture has been designed to improve the internal system interoperability, reducing the coupling between the basic SCADA and the Energy Management System (EMS). Later, a second architecture that allows the integration of external components has been introduced to promote the external interoperability. Results show that the proposed architectures are correct (according to the IPF) and the interoperability of the system is improved. Furthermore, initial conclusions suggest that the final proposed solution would be less complex than the current architecture in the long term, although a large effort and substantial changes would be needed to upgrade the system architecture.

Abstract:
Simulation software is being increasingly used in various domains for system analysis and/or behavior prediction. Traditionally, researchers and field experts need to have access to the computers that host the simulation software to do simulation experiments. With recent advances in cloud computing and Software as a Service (SaaS), a new paradigm is emerging where simulation software is used as services that are composed with others and dynamically influence each other for service-oriented simulation experiment on the Internet. The new service-oriented paradigm brings new research challenges in composing multiple simulation services in a meaningful and correct way for simulation experiments. To systematically support simulation software as a service (SimSaaS) and service-oriented simulation experiment, we propose a layered framework that includes five layers: an infrastructure layer, a simulation execution engine layer, a simulation service layer, a simulation experiment layer and finally a graphical user interface layer. Within this layered framework, we provide a specification for both simulation experiment and the involved individual simulation services. Such a formal specification is useful in order to support systematic compositions of simulation services as well as automatic deployment of composed services for carrying out simulation experiments. Built on this specification, we identify the issue of mismatch of time granularity and event granularity in composing simulation services at the pragmatic level, and develop four types of granularity handling agents to be associated with the couplings between services. The ultimate goal is to achieve standard and automated approaches for simulation service composition in the emerging service-oriented computing environment. Finally, to achieve more efficient service-oriented simulation, we develop a profile-based partitioning method that exploits a system’s dynamic behavior and uses it as a profile to guide the spatial partitioning for more efficient parallel simulation. We develop the work in this dissertation within the application context of wildfire spread simulation, and demonstrate the effectiveness of our work based on this application.

Abstract:
Ces travaux s'inscrivent au sein du projet européen FP7 CHOReOS<br>Over the last years, the globalization, the increase of customers requirements, and the constant search for lower costs, have induced a steep complexity of organization's management. Therefore, inter-organizational collaboration becomes essential to maintain and enhance the competitiveness of enterprises. In this context, the information system may, depending on its flexibility and its robustness, hamper or facilitate this collaboration. One approach to resolve this problem has been taken by the MISE (Mediation Information System Engineering) project. It aims to provide an effective implementation of a collaborative information system, based on Model-Driven Engineering, coupled with a Business Process Management approach (BPM) and supported by Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). This solution consists in two steps: (i) the generation of a business processes map from the description of a collaborative situation (business level), and (ii) the transformation of these process models into an executable system (technical level). The works detailed in this PhD take roots in this solution and improve it by adding non-functional aspects management during the transition from the business level to the technical level. We present an approach that: first (i) annotates the business activities with Non-Functional Requirements (NFR) in the processes modelling stage, second (ii) rationalizes the management of services and their non-functional properties through SOA Governance, and third (iii) makes a non-functional reconciliation between activities and services. We validate our approach through two prototypes: Petals BPM-NFR for modelling and non-functional annotation of business process, and EasierGov-NFR for the governance of services and their non- functional properties, and the non-functional reconciliation. A case study illustrates our approach to demonstrate its applicability. This work is supported by the FP7 European project CHOReOS

Abstract:
In the new economic environment enterprises must achieve both interoperability and agility. In this thesis the main research question is the following: How to design a service oriented architecture methodology driven by business to support inter-organizational collaboration? To overcome the conceptual and technological barriers of interoperability. We propose a top-down model driven method based on BPM and SOA principles to ensure collaboration efficiency and effectiveness. Abstract:

Abstract:
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 22-25, 2001 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada<br>Foundation Initiative 2010 (FI 2010) is a joint interoperability initiative of the Director, Operational Test and Evaluation. The vision of FI 2010 is to enable interoperability among ranges, facilities, and simulations in a timely and cost-efficient manner and to foster reuse of range assets and future range system developments. To achieve this vision, FI 2010 is developing and validating a common architecture with a common range object model, a core set of tools, inter-range communication capabilities, interfaces to existing range assets, interfaces to weapon systems, and recommended procedures for conducting synthetic test events and training exercises. During FY 01, the project is developing the second Test and Training ENabling Architecture (TENA) Middleware Prototype as a basis for range communication. FI 2010 will advance a simulation-based acquisition or a ‘distributed engineering plant’ methodology to streamline weapon system acquisition. Benefits from the FI 2010 products include cost effective replacement of customized data links, enhanced exchange of mission data, organic TENA-compliant capabilities at test sites to be leveraged for future test events, and instrumentation system reuse. Through FI 2010, future inter-range operations, instrumentation development, and range capability sustainment will cost less and incur less risk.

Abstract:
With the emergence of cloud computing and mobile applications, it is possible to find a web service for almost everything. We propose a framework for helping at the resolution of these issues, in the form of an architecture that integrates different orchestration languages with heterogeneous service providers around a pivot language. As a pivot language we propose an orchestration language based on the chemical programming paradigm. Concretely, this dissertation presents the language Criojo that implements and extends the Heta-calculus, an original calculus associated to a chemical abstract machine dedicated to service-oriented computing. The consequence of adopting this approach would bean improvement in the interoperability of services and orchestration languages, thus easing the development of composite services. The high level of abstraction of Criojo could allow developers to write very concise orchestrations since message exchanges are represented in a natural and intuitive way

Abstract:

Abstract:
Since the early 2000s, Service Oriented Architectures (SOAs) have played a key role in the development of complex applications within a virtual organization (VO) context. Grids and workflows have emerged as vital technologies for addressing the (SOA) paradigm. Given the variety of Grid middleware, scientific workflow systems and Grid workflows available, bringing the two technologies together in a flexible, reusable and generalized way has been largely overlooked, particularly from a scientific end user perspective. The lack of domain focus in this area has led to a slow uptake of Grid technologies. This thesis aims to design a framework for Grid-enabling workflows, which identifies the essential technological components, how these components fit together in layered architecture and the interactions between them. To produce such a framework, this thesis first investigates the definition of a Grid-workflow architecture and mapping Grid functionality to workflow nodes, focusing on striking a balance between performance, usability and the Grid functionality supported. Next, it presents an examination of framework extensions for supporting various forms of Grid heterogeneity, essential for ii VO based collaboration. Given the complex nature of Grid technologies, the work presented here investigates abstracting Grid based workflows through high-level definitions and resolution using semantic technologies. Finally, this thesis presents a way to resolves abstract Grid workflows using semantic technologies and intelligent, autonomous agents. The frameworks presented in this thesis are tested and evaluated within the context of domain-based case studies defined in the SIMDAT, BRIDGE and ARGUGRID EU funded research projects.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Nodehi, Tahereh. "A new MDA-SOA based framework for intercloud interoperability." Doctoral thesis, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10362/14377.

Abstract:
Cloud computing has been one of the most important topics in Information Technology which aims to assure scalable and reliable on-demand services over the Internet. The expansion of the application scope of cloud services would require cooperation between clouds from different providers that have heterogeneous functionalities. This collaboration between different cloud vendors can provide better Quality of Services (QoS) at the lower price. However, current cloud systems have been developed without concerns of seamless cloud interconnection, and actually they do not support intercloud interoperability to enable collaboration between cloud service providers. Hence, the PhD work is motivated to address interoperability issue between cloud providers as a challenging research objective. This thesis proposes a new framework which supports inter-cloud interoperability in a heterogeneous computing resource cloud environment with the goal of dispatching the workload to the most effective clouds available at runtime. Analysing different methodologies that have been applied to resolve various problem scenarios related to interoperability lead us to exploit Model Driven Architecture (MDA) and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) methods as appropriate approaches for our inter-cloud framework. Moreover, since distributing the operations in a cloud-based environment is a nondeterministic polynomial time (NP-complete) problem, a Genetic Algorithm (GA) based job scheduler proposed as a part of interoperability framework, offering workload migration with the best performance at the least cost. A new Agent Based Simulation (ABS) approach is proposed to model the inter-cloud environment with three types of agents: Cloud Subscriber agent, Cloud Provider agent, and Job agent. The ABS model is proposed to evaluate the proposed framework.<br>Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) - (Referencia da bolsa: SFRH SFRH / BD / 33965 / 2009) and EC 7th Framework Programme under grant agreement n° FITMAN 604674 (http://www.fitman-fi.eu)

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立成功大學<br>測量及空間資訊學系碩博士班<br>95<br>Full accessibility and correct use of distributed geospatial resource are two of the critical issues to recent GIS developments. With the innovated progress of recent geospatial SOA, open geospatial data format and web service have largely removed data acquisition obstacles. How to develop a middleware environment to effectively integrate heterogeneous geospatial resource, take advantages of the chaining capability of geospatial web services and develop built-in professional geospatial knowledge have emerged as our future challenges. Map interface operations in middleware environment were chosen as the major topic of this research. Besides taking full advantages of the accessibility of heterogeneous geographic data via web service, we expect to further improve the map interface display and application via built-in cartographic knowledge in middleware environment. To achieve better interoperability of heterogeneous data, a general-purpose data description framework based on the fundamental characteristics of geographic data is proposed. Complying with the ISO/TC211 19100 series international standards, the description framework enables all distributed geospatial features to automatically carry common and necessary description information. The middleware can therefore interpret the acquired data content in a standardized way and ensure the correct use of map operations. Served as a common description framework, it can be applied to any application domains and can be expanded whenever necessary. We further established a primitive geospatial SOA following various OGC standards(WMS、WFS、WCTS、OpenLS and Catalogue Service) that allows the middleware to collect and process required data via loose-coupling of web service. Based on the proposed description framework and built-in cartographic knowledge, the developed middleware can meet the demands of the correct display and operation of heterogeneous data in map interface, as well as avoid the possible wrong data use of nave users. It is clear that middleware will play a dominant role to bridge the gaps of users and data providers in the future GIS environment. Though we only focus on the common characteristic of geographic data in this research, the proposed fundamental middleware environment has sufficient flexibility to further improve the integration of heterogeneous data by including additional domain-specific knowledge.

Serrão, Carlos. "iDRM - Interoperability Mechanisms for Open Rights Management Platforms." Doctoral thesis, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/10071/1156.

Full text
Abstract:
Today’s technology is raising important challenges in the Intellectual Property (IP) field in general and to Copyright in particular [Arkenbout et al., 2004]. The same technology that has made possible the access to content in a ubiquitous manner, available to everyone in a simple and fast way, is also the main responsible for the challenges affecting the digital content IP of our days [Chiariglione, 2000]. Technological solutions and legal frameworks were created to meet these new challenges. From the technological point of view, Rights Management Systems (RMS) and Copy Protection Systems (CPS) have been developed and deployed to try to cope with them. At first, they seemed to work however, their closed and non-interoperable nature and a growing number of wrong strategic business decisions, soon lead to a strong opposition. One of the strongest negative points is the lack of rights management interoperability [Geer, 2004]. The work presented on this thesis primarily addresses the RMS interoperability problems. The objective of the thesis is to present some possible mechanisms to improve the interoperability between the different existing and emerging rights management platforms [Guth, 2003a]. Several different possible directions to rights management interoperability are pointed in this thesis. One of the most important is openness. Interoperability between different rights management mechanisms can only be achieved if they are open up to a certain level. Based on this concept, an open rights management platform is designed and presented in this thesis. Also, some of the interoperability mechanisms are presented and explained. This platform makes usage of the emerging service-oriented architectures to provide a set of distributed rights management services. Rights management solutions rely heavily on the establishment of authenticated and trust environments between its different elements. While considering different RMS, the establishment of such trust environments can be somehow complex. This thesis provides a contribution to the establishment of interoperable RMS trust environments through the usage of Public-Key Infrastructure (PKI) mechanisms. Modern rights management systems have to handle with both keying material and licenses which are used mostly to define how content is governed by the system. Managing this is a complex and hard task when different rights management solutions are considered. This thesis presents and describes a generic model to handle the key and license management life cycle, that can be used to establish a global interoperable management solution between different RMS.

Abstract:
As the complexity of markets and the dynamicity of systems evolve, the need for interoperable systems capable of strengthening enterprise communication effectiveness increases. This is particularly significant when it comes to collaborative enterprise networks, like manufacturing supply chains, where several companies work, communicate, and depend on each other, in order to achieve a specific goal. Once interoperability is achieved, that is once all network parties are able to communicate with and understand each other, organisations are able to exchange information along a stable environment that follows agreed laws. However, as markets adapt to new requirements and demands, an evolutionary behaviour is triggered giving space to interoperability problems, thus disrupting the sustainability of interoperability and raising the need to develop monitoring activities capable of detecting and preventing unexpected behaviour. This work seeks to contribute to the development of monitoring techniques for interoperable SOA-based enterprise networks. It focuses on the automatic detection of harmonisation breaking events during real-time communications, and strives to develop and propose a methodological approach to handle these disruptions with minimal or no human intervention, hence providing existing service-based networks with the ability to detect and promptly react to interoperability issues.

Abstract:
Em ambos os casos, a aplicação do modelo do NIST possibilita a identificação e correção de incoerências semânticas, descobrir e definir requisitos, auxiliar a conceção de arquiteturas, definir serviços, sistematizar normas e protocolos para as respetivas arquitetura decloud computing.<br>The evolution of the Internet has provided the growth of new business models supported by information and communication technologies and has enabled the development of new services models based in cloud computing. The alignment of business and service architectures for the cloud can be achieved by the use of reference models, which specify the main activities and functions of cloud computing. The purpose of the present dissertation is to demonstrate the application of the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) Reference Model for Cloud Computing that supports the design of cloud computing architectures. This model is the most recognized and used by industries to discuss and analyse cloud computing activities and functions. In spite this fact, similar approaches of their application were not identified in contexts related with the purpose of this dissertation. The NIST model was applied in two demonstration cases. In the first case, the model is used to support the design of cloud computing architecture for the system that supports the availability of Enterprise Resource Planning software in a Software-as-a-Service cloud-based model. In this case, the model is applied to use-cases that describe the main functionalities of the system. In the second case, the model is used to support the design of cloud computing architecture for the system that supports the availability of cloud-based services for a specific context in the Ambient Assisted Living domain. In this case, the model is applied to architectural component of the process-level logical architecture that specifies the main activities and needs in context. In both cases the application of the NIST model enables the identification and the correction of semantic incoherence’s, discovers and defines requirements, supports the design of architectures, defines services, and systematizes standards and protocols for the respective cloud computing architectures.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立臺灣海洋大學<br>資訊工程學系<br>94<br>The purpose of this thesis is about e-Learning standard SCORM and web service SOAP. SCORM is most popular technology used in e-Learning today. SCORM was developed in Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative promoted by the Department of Defense (DOD) and scientific and technological organization of White House. The objectives of e-Learning standard SCORM are Reusable, Accessible Interoperable and Durable for existing digital teaching material and learning management system. The e-learning standard SCORM also be wanted to help integrate the existing various e-Learning standard. Although there many e-Learning manufacturers claim to accord with SCORM standard, still can’t approach the objectives above. In this research will discuss what such a result that can’t approach the objectives of e-Learning standard SCORM. This research points put to take advantage of SOAP that can pass by the firewall. And design the interoperable experimental to analysis the shortcoming about e-Learning standard SCORM. Last, this research would implement a LMS based on SOAP to approach e-Learning standard SCORM interoperable and accessible issue. Hopefully, the research is practical and to complete the e-Learning standard SCORM.

Abstract:
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)<br>The emergence of information exchange and act of offering features through external interfaces is a vast but immensely valuable challenge, and essential elements of learning environments cannot be excluded. Nowadays, there are a lot of different service providers working in the learning systems market and each of them has their own advantages. On that premise, in today's world even large learning management systems are trying to cooperate with each other in order to be best. For instance, Instructure is a substantial company and can easily employ a dedicated team tasked with the development of a video conferencing functionality, but it chooses to use an open source alternative instead: The BigBlueButton. Unfortunately, different learning system manufacturers are using different technologies for various reasons, making integration that much harder. Standards in learning environments have come to resolve problems regarding exchanging information, providing and consuming functionalities externally and simultaneously minimizing the amount of effort needed to integrate systems. In addition to defining and simplifying these standards, careful consideration is essential when designing new, comprehensive and useful systems, as well as adding interoperability to existing systems, all which subsequently took part in this research. In this research I have reviewed most of the standards and protocols for integration in learning environments and proposed a revised approach for app stores in learning environments. Finally, as a case study, a learning tool has been developed to avail essential functionalities of a social educational learning management system integrated with other learning management systems. This tool supports the dominant and most popular standards for interoperability and can be added to learning management systems within seconds.

Abstract:
Além disso, percebeu-se que as aplicações da loja Microsoft para sistemas Windows 8/RT não são um substituto de aplicações mais tradicionais, mas podem complementar as mesmas.<br>Information exchange happens nowadays very quickly, and it is possible to perform collaborative tasks more easily, which allows for the achieving of higher efficiency and performance. Web services are a technology that has emerged, allowing the easier implementation of interactions between heterogeneous applications. Several standards were developed to support the development of web services, such as WSDL and SOAP, but at the same time, other forms of services, based on the REST architectural principles and the http protocol, have emerged. In this dissertation, in the context of the company Primavera BSS, a study of software development using the principles of service oriented architecture has been done. A solution delivered as a service was designed and developed using the Primavera CloudServices infrastructure that aims at the development of such solutions. A Microsoft Windows Store Application was also developed. The rationale behind its conception was to understand how can this kind of applications be used in the context of a service oriented architecture, and which are the changes comparing it with traditional applications of Microsoft’s operating systems. We conclude that using service oriented architecture in software development makes room for new functionality and provides a form of interoperability with legacy systems. In addition, it was concluded that Microsoft Windows Store Applications are not a replacement for more traditional applications but can complement them.
