Abstract:
The dramatic development of cognitive–behavioural therapy (CBT) over the past 30 years, with associated high-quality research into the evaluation of its treatment effects, is to be welcomed and applauded. This form of therapy is now a recognised psychological treatment of choice for a wide variety of psychological disorders. The role of cognitive processes in the development and prolongation of psychological symptoms has been studied, and resulted in the development of coherent and effective treatment models.

Abstract:
Interpersonal therapy of depression was created and established in American psychiatry in the 80ties. At that time european and especially german psychiatry was still dominated by the concept of endogenous depression, which suggested a somehow biologically determined aetiology which was not very likely to be influenced by psychotherapeutic access. However, the empiric approach to evaluate therapy regardless of aetiology, which is very typical for IPT, produced strong evidence for the effectiveness of IPT in unipolar depression and many other psychiatric disorders. On this basis, a diversity of biological studies became possible which aimed to the elucidation of neurobiological mechanisms of psychotherapy. The first data indicate that biological state markers change when the patient responds, regardless if he received Psycho- or pharmacotherapy. However, no empirical findings suggested, how IPT might be linked to neurobiological phenomena. We followed the suggestion by E. Kandel, that the phosphorylation of cAMP-responsive-binding-protein (pCREB) could be a crucial factor in the process of psychic improvement. Therefore we studied pCREB in human T-lymphocytes under different treatment conditions in unipolar depression. The results will be presented.

Worthington, Hannah Ruth. "Termination in therapy : a comparison of cognitive behaviour therapy and interpersonal psychotherapy." Thesis, University of Edinburgh, 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/1842/25338.

Full text
Abstract:
A significant amount of literature and research exists exploring the development of the therapeutic relationship in psychotherapy; however in comparison literature on termination remains relatively lacking. This study compares Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) on various components of termination and also aims to correlate amount of termination activity with therapeutic outcome. A content analysis of 42 final (or penultimate) therapy sessions was carried out using a coding scheme derived from the Termination Behaviour Checklist – Therapist (Quintana & Holahn, 1992). Qualitative analysis sought to illustrate quantitative findings in more detail. Overall there was a significantly greater amount of termination activity in IPT sessions compared to CBT. In particular, specific findings were significantly more evaluation of therapy, closure of the therapeutic relationship and greater patient expression of affect, in IPT in comparison to final sessions of CBT. There was no significant difference between therapeutic interventions in terms of discussion of the patient’s future. A significant positive correlation between amount of termination activity and a reduction in symptoms of depression was found. These findings are consistent with theoretical orientation, in which IPT explicitly defines a phase of termination of therapy and a cognitive-behavioural approach emphasises relapse prevention. Implications are for a greater focus on other aspects of the termination process in CBT. In addition the finding that amount of termination activity was related to a reduction in symptoms of depression, alerts therapists to an awareness of managing termination when patients have not experienced an expected improvement in presenting symptoms.

Abstract:
This study explores women’s experiences of therapy for victims of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) within a specialist Domestic Violence service. It aims to shed light on the lived experiences of the women and their perspectives on therapy. The research took a form of a qualitative enquiry. Due to the sensitive nature of the topic, the multifaceted nature of IPV, the researcher’s epistemological position, and the relative lack of qualitative research on the topic, it was deemed appropriate to remain rooted to the participants’ experiences. Eight women with the experience of exposure to IPV who have undergone therapy for victim-‐survivors of IPV within the specialist Domestic Violence service took part in this study. Individual semi-‐ structured interviews were conducted to gain insight into participant’s experiences of therapy within the service, and these interviews were analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) and Visual Methods. Derived from the IPA is the over-‐arching theme ‘recovery as a process’, with four inter-‐related constituent themes: ‘abuse as disintegrating the self’, ‘oblivion of abuse and awakening’, ‘therapy as a journey of empowerment’ and ‘therapy as a continuous experience’. Each constituent theme consists of a number of different sub-‐themes. Derived from the analysis of the drawings are researchers interpretations of participants’ representation of their experiences of therapy as a part of their journey towards recovery. These findings are presented through four points of reference: ‘recovery as a process’, ‘therapy as a transforming experience’, ‘therapy as a safe place’, and ‘therapy as a process’. The findings are considered in relation to the wider literature, including theoretical models and empirical studies. Links, consistencies, disparities and controversies are discussed. Potential implications for research and practice are addressed.

Levin, Laura. "Adolescent Interpersonal Predictors of Early Therapeutic Alliance in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy." Scholarly Repository, 2011. http://scholarlyrepository.miami.edu/oa_dissertations/701.

Full text
Abstract:
This study examined interpersonal predictors of early therapeutic alliance in a cognitive-behavioral treatment study for adolescents with anxiety and/or depressive disorders. Client, therapist, and observer rated measures of alliance were obtained from the third session of treatment in a sample of twenty-seven adolescents. Results indicate that alliance ratings across the three perspectives are significantly associated with one another, but that pretreatment interpersonal variables were differentially associated with varying informant perspectives. Adolescents’ perceptions of their relationships to their caregivers positively related to their perceptions of the therapeutic alliance, such that adolescents with more positive representations of relationships with their attachment figures were more likely to endorse stronger working alliances early in treatment. Adolescent-reported symptom severity at pretreatment predicted observer ratings of alliance, such that adolescents who indicated greater symptoms at pretreatment were rated as having stronger early alliances with their therapists by independent observers. Adolescent perceptions of social support also predicted observer ratings of alliance. Therapists perceived having weaker alliances with adolescents showing clinically significant depression, as compared to adolescents diagnosed with anxiety disorders alone. Future research is needed to examine whether identification of relevant interpersonal factors can help improve therapeutic engagement and outcomes for the psychosocial treatment of adolescents with anxiety and depressive disorders.

Abstract:
The sphere of interpersonal relations is very important for a person's happiness. High levels of alexithymia interfere with interpersonal relationships. Our study showed a significant negative correlation between alexithymia and happiness. People with high rates of alexithymia should be less happy than others. But experiencing happiness can reduce a person's level of alexithymia. If alexithymia manifests itself as a temporary reaction or a certain state of a person, the experience of happiness can reduce level of alexithymia. Various methods of art therapy are effective in the treatment of alexithymia. Intense experience of happiness can be an additional factor in the effectiveness of art therapy in the treatment of alexithymia. But, it needs further research. KEY WORDS: Emotions, happiness, alexithymia, art therapy.

Abstract:
This article is devoted to identifying the possibilities of promoting the development of listening skills in preschool children with phonological insufficiency. Underdeveloped listening skills and phonological insufficiency have a negative impact on speech development and language acquisition. During life, in interpersonal communication, people engage in four types of linguistic activity: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Listening is considered the most important skill, as it is through listening that an individual acquires most of their information and knowledge, including understanding the pronunciations of speech sounds, learning to distinguish them by hearing, and acquiring an understanding of words, sentences and texts. Children learn to perceive, comprehend and respond to hearing information by providing oral or written answers. The aim of this study is to theoretically investigate and practically evaluate the possibilities of promoting listening skills in children with phonetic-phonemic deficiencies. Methodology: The research was carried out using a literature review and speech therapy sessions to improve listening skills in preschool children with phonological insufficiency. Results: 42 children aged 5–6 years with phonological insufficiency were involved in the study. The study was conducted in speech therapy sessions over a period of three months. Initial and repeated assessments of listening skills were carried out. The evaluation criteria were based on speech therapy and educational theories. The repeated assessment of listening skills showed dynamic growth in all children included in the study.

Abstract:
As it is known, long-term psycho-emotional stress in professions from the helping, supporting sphere leads to the occurrence of syndrome of professional burnout (SPB). In SPB , there are violations of mental and psychophysiological adaptation: a decrease in efficiency in the profession, depletion of emotional, energy and personal resources, dysfunction of interpersonal contacts with colleagues and clients. The consequences of occupational stress are characterized by a pronounced combination of symptoms of disorders in the mental, somatic and social spheres of human life. 175 Assistance to persons with SPB is divided into three levels: 1) individual: development of adaptive forms of behavior, treatment of clinical manifestations; 2) interpersonal: optimization of relationships with colleagues, treatment of clinical manifestations; 3) organizational: optimization of the working environment, improvement of working conditions, etc. We have developed a program of medical and psychological assistance for specialists in the social sphere of Russia with SPB. It has been implemented since 2018. The program includes a set of measures of identifying and preventing SPB, decreasing its severity, reducing or alleviation clinical manifestations. Clinico-psychological diagnostics and subsequent individual and group psychotherapy of identified neurotic, psychosomatic disorders are carried out. In the treatment of clinical manifestations of professional stress, such eco-friendly methods of psychotherapy with creativity as: art therapy, ethnotherapy, fairy tale therapy, esthetotherapy, landscape therapy, psychotherapy with creative travel, creative photography, etc. are used in the treatment of clinical manifestations of professional stress. The methods were originally developed and tested by the author on the basis of the method of creative self-expression therapy by Professor M.E. Burno for our patients with various adjustment disorders in dissertation research and within the framework of federal targeted programs commissioned by the Russian Ministry of Labor. At present, we are successfully applying these effective methods in the programs of medical and psychological rehabilitation for SPB specialists in the social sphere of the Russian Federation.

Abstract:
E-learning has been spreading more and more in the Romanian schools in order to support the traditional teaching process. Computer-assisted instruction has many advantages, such as active learning strategies, students' involvement in learning, and development of more complex technical skills in tune with greater demands for social and societal insertion. However, there are still many controversies related to the phenomenon of human alienation, reduction of basic interpersonal relations, therefore having negative effects upon the emotional-affective dimension of personal and interpersonal relationships. Referring to persons with disabilities, it is commonly agreed that technology is not just their ally, but often the only chance to compensate their natural induced impairments. People with disabilities use technology to communicate, move, fulfill their basic needs, and self-care, overcoming the 'assisted-person' status and gaining more independence and greater control upon the quality of their lives. Still, questions remain: can or will technology ever help them decisively to overcome social barriers, those last challenges to social progress and the emergence of societies showing an inclusive frame of mind? Those 'walls of discrimination' created between ignorance and tolerance can actually be torn down, at some point, so that disability may be addressed as a sample of human diversity and not as a disadvantage? How can we use technology to get a positive answer to this issue sooner? Using these questions for starters, a project dedicated to the training of inclusive mindsets through play and teamwork from the early age has begun in Bucharest at the Special Kindergarten for the Hard of Hearing no. 65 in March 2014. Fun Lab is a project that combines latest learning technologies through sensory stimulation using cutting-edge equipment with problem-solving strategy based on mutual interaction and support in order to solve amusing tasks, which brings persons with sensory disabilities and regular people of all ages together. We wish to reform the way of looking at disability within the community, to prevent indifference or intolerance, discrimination (even the positive one). We wish to reform the way of thinking of persons with disabilities, both with or without sensory impairments, but having "ignoring or indifference disabilities", in the way of a common effort to real equal opportunities and rights to life and education of all those involved. And because communication between these dramatically different communities is often difficult or impossible, we chose a universal way, so to speak, to communicate, at local, international or even intergalactic level... what else could unite us more tightly and make us interact to each other than technology? We bet on technology, this gigantic destroyer of humanity, as it was often described, to reverse it against its long standing meaning, that is to maim and extinct human relationships and human in generally in the favor of the machine. We plan to reverse the poles and use technological systems to close different communities, to make them interact and know each other, to accept each other and to support each other, completing to one each other in order to achieve a common goal - progress. Project Goal Our goal is a kind of "domino" relationship between the progress of approach and education strategies for rehabilitation of preschoolers with sensory and associated multi-sensory disabilities and the social progress of the community within they will find their place. Non-acceptance and indifference come from ignorance and lack of relationship; by offering a common "toy", we hope to improve not only the life of persons with deficiencies, but the personal progress desire of those from the greater community, referring to attitude toward deficiency in general, toward impairment and limits, even physical ones, toward knowledge or relationship. Activities and results What we plan for ourselves through this project is offering work techniques and abilities for teachers, students and parents, as education partners, by organizing of interactive workshops "Sensory-lab"-like, in which we blend fun, relaxation and out of daily routines with a subtle and positive learning process through play and fun. We use multi-touch technologies and sensory responsive equipments, such as: multi-touch 27" monitor computer charged with hundreds of apps and games from the mains AppStores (sensory training, speech therapy apps, deaf signs apps, sport and motric coordination games, music, team play games, memory and attention games, cognitive and communication development games using virtual realities), 3D archive library and also sound, light and movement responsive equipments. Through participation at "sensory-lab" workshops, the life of the school community will improve and the mutual interactions between the two categories of persons: those who can hear and those who cannot, even if we talk about preschoolers or their parents. As a result of "sensory-lab" activities we expect an increase of the interest in common events and an increased involvement in education and extra-curricular activities of parents and local community.

Abstract:
Abstract This article investigates how Khaita- Joyful Dances promote an understanding of peace from a transrational and Buddhist perspective. Khaita dances have been created by the Buddhist Dzogchen master Namkhai Norbu as a practice of presence and collaboration, promoting an inner attitude of peace spreading from the individual to the group. Peace is hereby understood as a multi-faceted, intra- as well as interpersonal, dynamic state perceived and experienced not only by the intellectual mind but also through the body and subtle energies. This article is structured in three parts. First, I will explore peace theory in the context of Khaita. Second, I will illustrate the peace understanding promoted by the Tibetan artists through examples from the Khaita songs. The Tibetan song lyrics thereby express the wish for unification amongst Tibetans and the desire for (world) peace. Third, I will investigate the principles of accessible participation, equality as well as collaboration as parameters for peace experiences through examples from the Khaita practice sessions as well as Khaita Kordros, circle dances. The circle dances thereby offer an easy, non-hierarchical immersion in a diverse group of dancers and require presence and self-observation. Abstract:
Technology is evolving at a rapid rate, thereby introducing more complex problems that engineers must be able to engage with. Increasingly complex problems require new ways of thinking, and more innovative, creative, and collaborative responses. To lead this technological evolution, engineers are challenged to engage with lifelong learning and ongoing problem solving. The learning and creative thinking skills needed for innovation relies on an open and receptive mindset – a key component of mindfulness. Mindfulness has previously been shown to enhance creativity, focus, mental clarity, and divergent thinking skills required for problem solving. Furthermore, mindfulness has been shown improve interpersonal relationships and communication – paramount to effective collaboration when working on solutions to complex problems as a team. In this paper, the perceptions of mindfulness and its effects on engineering professionals in the workplace are explored. Data were collected using structured interviews with a purposive sample of practicing South African engineers, and a survey sent out to a larger sample. Data were analysed using content analysis for the interviews and statistical regression analysis for the survey. It was found that engineers believed that consistent learning was a vital aspect of job performance. Findings revealed that mindfulness was correlated to lower stress, fatigue, and turnover intention, while improving productivity, innovation, emotional intelligence, and communication. Results indicate that through cultivating mindfulness, engineering professionals will be more equipped to continuously learn, create, and innovate in a productive manner. The study proposes that mindfulness is introduced at undergraduate level in engineering education as a key skill in preparing graduates for the workplace.

Abstract:
This article covers some new forms of publicness in the field of art culture of the Russian city of Perm, e.g. dramatics as a performance in a street environment, and synthetic museum-theatrical form under the conditions of a stage box. The study was accomplished mainly via culturological method. At one time theatre left the urban environment, but in the 21st century theatrical forms have begun to permeate urban space again, the statement primarily concerns site-specific theatre. This is equivalent to the birth of new theatrical-city publicity, a new modality of the interpenetration of the public and the private. One of the best-known theatrical projects in this field is ‘Remote X’ (‘Rimini Protokoll’ band). Here, the close co-existence habitual to city dwellers turns into a social substrate, and a way to implement interpersonal artistic communication, thereby largely changing the disposition of the former, and transforming itself. Another new form of relationship between collective and individual aspects in the public sphere is the synthetic museum-theatre form, on the example of immersion dramatics ‘Permian Pantheon’ (Perm Academic Theatre, stager Dmitry Volkostrelov). The natural ‘calendar-seasonal’ tempo-rhythm of the dramatics creates a triple semantic effect risen from artistic reality. It immerses the viewer into the process of traditional subsistence in whole (actualisation of the cultural collective unconscious), represents cultural phenomena (which corresponds to the culture-focused paradigm of artistic consciousness of the second half of the 20th century to the early 21st century), reaches the level of worldview values, the philosophical generalisation of cultural-existential reality. Thus, on the example of two Perm theatrical plays the author can speak about the origin of new forms of publicness in contemporary culture to entail new relationships between publicity and privacy in the current realities.
