Abstract This chapter focuses on case management as a key person-centered practice in the interprofessional coordination and integration of care, exploring its unique role in intersectoral and multiagency communication. The authors define case management, tracing its roots in North American health and social care. Emphasis is placed on case management’s critical role as a systemwide support that promotes continuity of care across the health and social care network. Key advantages include its integration of actors who are not traditionally included in interprofessional collaboration, such as family and informal caregivers, and its patient-centered focus on advocating for the patient. In Bangladesh, the integration of One Health approaches into outbreak investigation and response can be traced back to the advent of outbreaks of Nipah and avian influenza viruses. Through accounts from epidemiological, anthropological, ecological, and animal health investigations, this chapter narrates a case study of partnership among the government, development partners, and research organizations in Nipah virus outbreak management. It depicts how persuadable, collaborative and problem-solving leadership, cooperative approaches, common goals and mutual support could result in strong partnerships among different individuals and organizations towards building a One Health platform to achieve common goals.

Abstract The multisectoral approach to health clearly states that, in addition to health services, health status is determined by a range of economic, social, and environmental factors. We might mention education, housing, food production and nutrition, water, sanitation, and income levels. Therefore, when we seek to manage and determine health, we should be concerned with more than the management of health services. Attention should be paid to, for example, the management of water and sanitation services, education, and housing. The health of a population is much more than the concerns of the MoH. It requires the participation of sectors that have health implications and are involved in the broader development tasks. In this chapter we shall look at the links between the management of health services and the management of health related sectors. Our concern is with intersectoral cooperation and coordination for health-the constraints and means for its potential development in management terms.

Abstract This book carries three major messages. Firstly, the adherence of national governments to a policy of PHC poses a major challenge to health management and organizations. PHC is a particularly difficult policy to formulate and implement, not least due to the political resistance it engenders. Also, the public sector in many countries is ill-adapted to the managerial and organizational needs of PHC. Secondly, changes in the organizational structure will have an important impact on the development of PHC. Important changes can be made in the organizational structure of the health sector. Particular attention should be paid to decentralization, intersectoral coordination, and the reorientation of bureaucratic systems and structures.

Abstract This chapter expounds on the social construction and development of an integrated child protection system in Indonesia as the country continues to reconstruct its identity as a nation and renegotiate its structural and institutional boundaries through social-cultural, political, and economic changes. While progress has been made in realizing the critical role of intermediary structures and intersectoral coordination in the decentralized governance of social service provisions, Indonesia continues to front the challenges of having millions of children living in poverty and the risk of child labor, trafficking, and early marriage. Despite the decline in the national poverty rate, levels of income and gender inequality are soaring, and the poverty rate reduction is slowing. The chapter identifies key challenges in building critical public discourse about child abuse and neglect, translating, and implementing the laws, policies, and strategies in protecting children and their families.

How will routes and sources of donations affect philanthropic roles and regulation? How will wider social trends influence the way in which raising and distribution of philanthropic funds are governed? How will philanthropy deal with demands for greater intra- and intersectoral coordination – and what might be the effects? And will, or should, philanthropic giving in disaster become more focused on justice, equity and root causes rather than immediate relief? These questions and provocations are designed to highlight unknowns and ambiguities, to suggest extensions and unexplored spaces, to invite attention to challenges and paradoxes – and above all, to recognise that generosity is complex, conditional and subject to change. Combined with the rest of this volume reflecting on the past and present, these final questions may contribute to a clearer picture of the challenges of the future.
