Abstract:
Typically, design is approached as a sequence of decisions in which designers select what they believe to be the best alternative in each decision. While this approach can be used to arrive at a final solution quickly, it is unlikely to result in the most-preferred solution. The reason for this is that all the decisions in the design process are coupled. To determine the most preferred alternative in the current decision, the designer would need to know the outcomes of all future decisions, information that is currently unavailable or indeterminate. Since the designer cannot select a single a

Unfortunately, analyzing these simulation results can be difficult, as Acumen supports only two ways of presenting them: raw data tables and 2D-plots. Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to identify communication challenges in micro-organizations. Thisthesis defines theoretical areas such as organizational communication and internalcommunication, with a focus on competence, uncertainty, and work disruptions. The methodsused in the collection of empirical material were participant observation, semi-structuredinterviews, and an e-mail survey. This material in combination with the theoretical backgroundhas showed the importance of technical competence in order for employees to be ableto communicate effectively. The technological solutions available today

Abstract:
Many experiments demonstrate that isotropic ductile materials used in engineering applications develop anisotropic damage and shows significant variation in elongation to failure. This anisotropic damage is manifest by material microstructural heterogeneities and morphological changes during deformation. The variation in elongation to the failure could be attributed to the uncertainties in the material microstructure and loading conditions. To study this deformation induced anisotropy arising from the initial material heterogeneities, we first performed uncertainty analysis using current form

Investigated values include 5%, 10% and 20% for the straight ribbed passages and 10%, 20%, and 40% for both the tip and hub turns. As expected there is a significant dependence of low cycle fatigue life to the variation in internal heat transfer coefficients. For the 20/40% case, variations in life as high as 50-60% are recorded, furthermore a trend is observed showing that as the magnitude of the uncertainty range of internal heat transfer coefficients narrows so does the range of the low cycle fatigue life uncertainty.; Uncertainty in accurately knowing applied internal heat transfer coeffic

The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of three factors, the expectation of events, situational control and situational anxiety, on the coping effort of parents of acutely ill hospitalized children. A secondary purpose was to determine the influence of the parents' locus of control orientation on the parents' coping effort. Coping effort was defined as the amount of behavior, both action oriented and intrapsychic, employed by parents to master, tolerate, reduce or minimize stressful events encountered during their child's hospitalization. The study utilized a mathematical corr

[EN] Patients suffering from Type 1 Diabetes are not able to secrete insulin, thus, they have to get it administered externally. Current research is focused on developing an artificial pancreas, a control system that automatically administers insulin according to patient's needs. The work presented here aims to improve the efficiency and safety of control algorithms for artificial pancreas. Glucose-insulin models try to mimic the administration of external insulin, the absorption of carbohydrates, and the influence of both of them in blood glucose concentration. However, these processes are i

Although the new architecture of experimentalist governance has been influential in academic scholarship as well as in policy debates over the last two decades, its actual impact on policymaking is still largely unclear. Specifically, questions about whether, under what conditions and how it influences policymaking processes remain largely unsolved. Without an adequate analysis of experimentalist policymaking, the current scholarship confines our understanding to the diffusion of experimentalist architectures, ultimately resulting in a poor understanding of their effects on policymaking proces
