The parasitic nematodes Ancylostoma caninum and Oesophagostomum radiatum were collected and analyzed for intestinal inorganic granules. Three means of identification were utilized to determine the composition granules, including birefringence, x-ray diffraction and energy dispersive spectrometric (EDS) analysis. Initial x-ray diffraction results of the two worms showed a calcium sulfide presence within the worms. Closer examination of the granules within Ancylostoma caninum however, utilizing EDS analysis revealed their composition to be zinc sulfide. These results concur with those of Rogers

Introdução: Entre as infecções mais comuns encontradas estão as parasitoses intestinais. Estas prejudicam principalmente as regiões mais pobres e carentes de recursos ao longo do globo. Embora sejam maioritariamente assintomáticas, muitas destas afetam o crescimento físico e desenvolvimento cognitivo de crianças, causando graves problemas de saúde. Introdução: As verminoses impactam em sérios prejuízos para a ovinocultura. São enfermidades com ciclo oro-fecal, em que os animais infectados eliminam os ovos do parasito pelas fezes, e no meio ambiente eclodem, e dão origem, as larvas infectantes. Na espécie ovina são raros os estudos com o diagnóstico da oesofagostomose pela histopatologia. Em cabanhas endêmicas, identificam-se: animais com histórico de emagrecimento progressivo, queda da produção de lã, anorexia, diarreia verde escura, anemia, hipoproteinemia e morte.
