Intra-articular injection of OVA into c-fos- mice hyperimmunized with OVA induced destructive arthritis with massive lymphocyte infiltration. The c-fos+ mice also developed destructive arthritis comparable in degree with that seen in c-fos- mice. However, joints from the c-fos+ mice

Abstract In RBL-2H3 rat basophilic leukemia cells, Ag that crosslink IgE-receptor complexes stimulate the turnover of inositol phospholipids, the mobilization of Ca2+ from intra- and extracellular sources, the release of serotonin and other substances from granules and the transformation of the cell surface from a microvillous to a lamellar architecture. This study explores the role of GTP-binding proteins (G proteins) in the control of these biochemical and functional responses. Australian canola (Brassica napus L.) has been relatively isolated from the global gene pool and limited knowledge is available for genetic variability based on DNA profiling. In the present study, genetic diversity of recent Australian canola cultivars was determined by simple sequence repeat (SSR) marker analysis. In total, 405 individuals from 48 varieties were genotyped with 18 primer pairs, resulting in 112 polymorphic features. The number of polymorphic features amplified by each SSR primer pair varied from 3 to 16. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) detected 53.7% and 46.3% within-

Abstract The γ-IFN-inducible lysosomal thiol reductase (GILT) is a unique thiol reductase with optimal activity at low pH, and is expressed in Ag presenting cells (APC). GILT is critical to processing protein Ag by catalyzing disulfide bond reduction, thus facilitating the unfolding of native Ag containing disulfide bonds for further processing. GILT-/- mice are defective in processing exogenous protein Ag. However the role of GILT in Ab response is not clear. Here we report that after immunization, GILT-/- mice failed to produce Ab to exogenous bovine insulin (bIns), which has A and B chains

Here we show that upon viral infection, ATR directly activates the p53 isoform Δp53, leading to upregulation of the Cdk inhibitor p21 and downregulation of cyclin A-Cdk2/1 (AK) activity, which force the host to stay in the replicative S phase. Moreover, downregulation of AK activity is a prerequisite for the generation of hypophosphorylated, origin-

First, the APC in the islets of Langerhans were found normally to contain diabetogenic peptides on their I-Ag7 molecules. This was found in freshly harvested islet cells from prediabetic NOD mice and, importantly, from NOD.SCID mice. Second, the presence of diabetogenic lymphocytes improved the presenting function of intra-islet APC. We interpret this to mean that lymphocytes can regulate intra-islet APC function before the d
