Why is motivation important? The answer is simple to most of us: it is what makes people push forward and act. Intrinsic motivation is the kind of motivation that arises from within a person, making her or him strive towards a goal for no other reward than the feeling it will bring. Additionally, this kind of motivation has shown correlations with enhanced learning, creativity, performance, optimal development, and well-being. The article explores the pivotal role of Self-Determination Theory in fostering student autonomy and well-being with the help of academic coaching. As educational paradigms shift towards learner-centered approaches, the development of interventions that promote intrinsic motivation and self-directed learning becomes increasingly critical. This study investigates how the core tenets of SDT – autonomy, competence, and relatedness – can be effectively integrated into academic coaching practices to enhance student engagement and academic performance. The strongest type of motivation that leads a human being when it comes to solving our daily tasks is the intrinsic motivation. Contrary to extrinsic motivation which, in general terms, is guided by rewards or by the value and the importance we give to the things we have to do, the intrinsic motivation is much more powerful. This kind of motivation appears out of the significance of the work we do on a daily basis, without seeking a final reward. Over the years, the researchers have studied The Self-Determination Theory (STD) and tried to determine the conditions and the contexts that support,

This motive is mainly aimed at the final result, that is, the desire to avoid a bad assessment or desire for approval. Therefore, the emotions accompanying it, in this case, reflect the degree of relationship in the form of success or failure in the implementation of the chosen actions. A

The climate crisis has received high levels of attention from the public and scholars over the last few decades. While the search for solutions involves strict regulations and innovation in clean energy sources, changing individual behaviours towards sustainability could prevent us from reaching a point of no return. Inarguably, there is a need for strong involvement of the public and private sector organizations, changing individual organizational behaviours towards sustainability might foster a great impact in terms of lowering the effects of the climate crisis. Specifically, it investigates the relationship between students’ intrinsic motivations, self- regulation, intelligence beliefs and goals adopted in Math

Qualified teachers are a fundamental input for any education system. Yet, many countries struggle to attract highly skilled applicants to the teaching profession. This paper presents the results of a large-scale intervention to attract high performing high-school students into the teaching profession in Chile. The intervention was a three-arm email campaign which made salient three types of motivations typically associated with the teaching profession: intrinsic/altruistic, extrinsic, and prestige-related. The objective was to identify which type of message better appealed to high performing s

This pedagogical approach views the university as an inclusive and adaptable space, where teaching aligns with students’ realities and needs, promoting accessibility, engagement, and holistic development. Flexibility enables students to manage their learning in a personalised manner, adapting to their individual paces, schedules, and environments (whether in-person or virtual), fostering autonomy and a better balance between person

The past decade has witnessed a surge in international interest in the importance of tax morale. This is often defined, broadly, as taxpayer’s ‘non-pecuniary motivations for tax compliance’ (Luttmer and Singhal 2014: 150) – as a key component of strategies for strengthening tax compliance in lower-income countries. Whereas classic models of tax compliance focused on the importance of the threat of enforcement and the cost of compliance in shaping compliance, compliance decisions are also significantly shaped by non-pecuniary motivations. They can, for example, be an intrinsic commitment to pay

A mature teacher who continuously seeks improvement should be recognised as a professional who has autonomy in conducting their job and has the autonomy to engage in a professional community of practice (Hyslop-Margison and Sears, 2010). In this context, teachers’ self-determination can be defined as a feeling of connectedness with their own aspirations or personal values, confidence in their ability to master new skills, and a sen

BACKGROUND: Chronic pain affects a large proportion of the general population – at least 34% of adults in the UK - and it has a huge impact on people’s lives as well as the workplace and health services, accounting for more than 75% of the years lived with disability. Despite this, chronic pain is poorly captured in clinical data which makes it difficult to identify appropriate patient cohorts especially for retrospective observational studies. A different model for pain-related projects is to include the patient voice directly into the team with the addition of funded patient members. Here we
