In adults intussusception is rare and accounts for 1% of all bowel obstructions. Colo-colic are less frequent representing less than 25% of all intussusceptions and are more likely to have an underlying malignancy as there is higher prevalence of colonic carcinoma. Less than 10% of intussusceptions in adults are idiopathic. Most of the patients present in the emergency setting with nonspecific symptoms consistent with a partial bowel obstruction. We present a patient who developed an ileocolic intussusception within a few hours of undergoing an endoscopic polypectomy found on screening colonoscopy. She underwent a laparoscopic right hemicolectomy with intracorporeal anastomosis. Final histopathological examination showed no evidence of malignancy. Intussusception after colonoscopy is a rare complication, and only 11 cases have been reported prior to this case. Laparoscopic resection with intracorporeal anastomosis is a safe and feasible option in patients who are not candidates or failed conservative management.

One hundred and three patients with intestinal gangrene were managed in Ile-Ife, Nigeria over a 10-year period. The overall mortality in the series was 25.2%. Strangulated hernias were responsible for 65 cases (63%), intussusception 20.4%, adhesions 11.7% and volvulus 2.9%. Avoidable deaths resulted from anastomotic breakdown and inadequate preoperative fluid therapy. Primary intestinal resection and end-to-end anastomosis of large bowel involved in gangrene gave very good results. It was found to be quite safe and economical, and avoided the inconveniences and complications of a colostomy.
