Abstract:
The management of maintenance spares has frequently been treated as part of the management of the total inventory in production-oriented organizations. In this article it is suggested that maintenance spares should be grouped into four categories: non-stock, usage stock, project stock and insurance stock. Rather than using a common inventory control approach to all spares, different techniques should be applied to each category. Developments in reliability-centred maintenance will result in less reliance on forecasting maintenance spares requirements, thereby permitting a higher service level without an increase in inventory carrying costs.

Abstract:
The inventory control system has a strategic role for the business in managing inventory operations. Management of conventional inventory creates problems in the stock of goods that often runs into vacancies and excess goods at the retail level. This study aims to build inventory control system that can maintain the stability of goods availability at the retail level. The implementation of Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) method on inventory control system provides transparency of sales data and inventory of goods at retailer level to supplier. Inventory control is performed by calculating safety stock and reorder point of goods based on sales data received by the system. Rule-based reasoning is provided on the system to facilitate the monitoring of inventory status information, thereby helping the process of inventory updates appropriately. Utilization of SMS technology is also considered as a medium of collecting sales data in real-time due to the ease of use. The results of this study indicate that inventory control using VMI ensures the availability of goods ± 70% and can reduce the accumulation of goods ± 30% at the retail level.

Abstract:
Objectives: A research has shown that the construction materials account for more than 55%-60% of the total expenditure of a project. Efficient material planning plays a major role in the successful handing over of a project within the estimated cost and schedule. Methods: This paper mainly focuses on materials planning and inventory control as these are the major aspects of material management. S-curve analysis is performed to measure the fluctuation between estimated materials cost and market materials cost. The major reasons for this are identified by interviewing engineers and contractors. Inventory control techniques such as ABC classification as well as EOQ analysis are conducted. Findings: The result of the S-curve analysis show that the actual materials cost is higher than the planned materials cost in most cases. ABC and EOQ analysis are applied to maintain sufficient stock in inventory and any given point of time, to protect the materials in the inventory against damages, to reduce inventory holding costs, to overcome stock-out problems and to maintain the inventory in an optimal level. Sensitivity check is applied to the results of EOQ analysis. The stock-out of A class and B class material problems faced in the construction site can be reduced by the application of ABC classification and BOQ analysis. The total expenditure of inventory is less after the adoption of these simple inventory control techniques. Conclusion: Instead of using costly software for inventory management, the engineers and contractors may use these simple inventory control techniques which are equally beneficial and economical.

Abstract:
This paper addresses the resource distribution problem in logistic networks with a complex, multi-echelon interconnection structure. The considered class of systems encompasses two types of nodes: controlled nodes subject to inventory management decisions and sources providing goods to the system to sustain the sales. The stock gathered at the controlled nodes is used to satisfy an exogenous, uncertain demand that may be placed at any controlled node. The stock is replenished from the sources and other controlled nodes, and the flow of goods proceeds with positive lead-time delay. The network topology does not assume any structural simplifications typically considered in inventory control problems, i.e., the nodes can form a link with any other node which leads to a mesh, multi-echelon structure. The contribution of this paper is twofold: First, the classical order-up-to policy is analyzed formally with respect to such nontrivial connectivity architectures, and conditions for full demand satisfaction under any bounded demand pattern are established. Next, a networked extension of the classical policy is proposed. The introduced networked policy is shown to generate smaller holding costs while maintaining the same service level as the classical policy. The formal study is supported by numerical tests involving genetic algorithms and simulation-based optimization.

Abstract:
In this study, we investigated the optimal material inventory policy with regard to the iron and steel industry’s effort to reduce massive overstocking issues in the face of increased corporate competitiveness. We gathered actual data, including sales and inventory numbers, from a steel and iron company over a period of 216 weeks between January 2010 and February 2014. We then utilized the Markov decision process (MDP) to analyze this data for inventory problems, such as relevant reorder points and reorder quantity issues as they relate to lead time, stock on hand and the limitations of having stock in-transit. The purpose of the study was to determine the most effective method for minimizing costs by using the optimal inventory policy to calculate and verify the effectiveness of the results. The final 52 weeks of data were put aside, while the initial 164 weeks were used to create an inbound material receipt system to ultimately establish a yearly (52-week) policy based on the inventory and sales data for weeks 113–164. Finally, we verified the effectiveness of the policy using the data from the final 52 weeks. The results showed that our proposed categorization method was effective for reducing the quantity of inventory while still meeting quarterly demands.

Abstract:
We consider optimal pricing and manufacturing control of a continuous-review inventory system with remanufacturing. Customer demand and product return follow independent Poisson processes. Customer demand is filled by serviceable product, which can be either manufactured or remanufactured from the returned product. The lead times for both manufacturing and remanufacturing are exponentially distributed. The objective is to maximize the expected total discounted profit over an infinite planning horizon. We characterize the structural properties of the optimal policy through the optimality equation. Specifically, the optimal manufacturing policy is a base-stock policy with the base-stock level nonincreasing in the return inventory level. The optimal pricing policy is also a threshold policy, where the threshold level is nonincreasing in the return inventory level.

Abstract:
In this paper, a discrete two item inventory model for deteriorating items with a linear stock dependent demand rate without regular supply is given first; then, regular supply is taken into account, which may be regarded as feedback control. An objective function is formed to calculate the net profit with respect to possible profits and possible loss. A necessary criterion for the steady state optimal control problem for optimizing the objective function subjected to the constraints given by the difference equations of the inventory is obtained. At last, an improved model is put forward.

With the widely acception of extended producer responsibility system, reverse logistics has attracted more and more attention. For manufacturers, reverse logistics activities is not inseparable to the general forward logistics, and they constitute the closed-loop supply chain. Decision makers of enterprises need to control the new products inventory and the recovered materials inventory to make the enterprises get the maximum profit. In this paper, the inventory characteristics under the closed-loop supply chain be analyzed and a inventory model for a single repair period, many production period is proposed .On condition that the number of recovery is controlled by the recycling price and is equal in different cycles, the recovered products can be sold as new.A economic production quantity and recycling price can be solved to make the total cost of a single cycle lowest ,which provides a basis for business decisions.

Abstract:
We investigate delayed state feedback control of a periodic-review inventory management system with perishable goods. The stock under consideration is replenished from multiple supply sources. By using delayed states as well as current states of the inventory system, a delayed feedback $H_{\infty }$ control strategy is developed to mitigate bullwhip effects of the system. Some conditions on the existence of the delayed feedback $H_{\infty }$ controller are derived. It is found through simulation results that the proposed delayed $H_{\infty }$ control scheme is capable of improving the performance of the inventory management significantly. In addition, the delayed controller is better than the traditional delay-free $H_{\infty }$ controller.

Abstract:
Traditional inventory models focus on operational decisions and inventory control. Quite few models consider the financial constraint and decision bias such as loss aversion, which are the reality in today's business environment, especially for the fashion and textiles industry. In this paper we study the inventory control problem for a loss-averse retailer with financial constraint for operations in a periodic review setting in a finite horizon. We characterize the optimal inventory control policies with self-financing or with borrowing as capital-dependent base-stock policies. We demonstrate with numerical examples that the optimal base-stock level is nonincreasing in the accumulated wealth and the loss-aversion indicator.

Abstract:
The blood bank system is a typical example of a perishable inventory system. The commodity arrival and customer demand processes are stochastic. However, the stored items have a constant lifetime. In this study, we introduce a diffusion approximation to this system. The stock level is represented by the amount of items arriving during the age of the oldest item; it is assumed to fluctuate as an alternating two-sided regulated Brownian motion between barriers 0 and 1. Hittings of level 0 are outdatings and hittings of level 1 are unsatisfied demands. Also, there are two predetermined switchover levels, a and b, with 0 ≤ a < b ≤ 1. Whenever the stock level process upcrosses level b, the controller generates a switch in the drift from γ = γ0 to γ = γ1, while downcrossings of level a generate switches from γ1 to γ0. A useful martingale is introduced for analyzing the stationary law of the controlled process as well as the total expected discounted cost.

Abstract:
Health Transformation Program (HTP) of Turkey, initiated in 2003, improved access to care and quality of health care services. In 2009, HTP implemented a centralized web-based information system to manage inventories of public hospitals. Prior to the introduction of inventory management, significant medical resources were wasted because of misuse, non-use and expiration of medical supplies. The objective of inventory management was to improve the efficiency of hospitals by projecting quantities of items likely to be needed by hospitals over a three-month period. The system also allowed transfer of unneeded and surplus items from one hospital to another. This article estimated cost savings for the health care system through the inter-hospital transfer of items. The success of inventory management was evaluated by using indicators such as the value of medical commodities purchased per unit of service delivered, value of stock to purchase ratios and the value of inter-hospital transfers. Trends in purchase, storage and transfer indicate that the new web-based inventory management infrastructure helped the hospital sector to become more efficient in terms of size of stocks held and inter-temporal changes in the value of stocks. It reduced system-wide waste of medical goods and pharmaceuticals, improved effective use of commodities and reduced storage cost.

Abstract:
Controlling the bullwhip effect and reducing the propagated inventory levels throughout the supply chain layers has an important role in reducing the total inventory costs of a supply chain. In this study, an optimal controller that considers demand as control variable is designed to dampen propagated inventory fluctuations for each node throughout the supply chain network. The model proves to be very useful in revealing the dynamic characteristics of the chain and provides a proper interface to study decisions taken into account at each node of the supply chain in different periods by decision makers (DMs). In the proposed approach, two feedback loops and online updated values of net stock quantities are used for calculation of the orders. To investigate the efficiency of the proposed approach, a real case of bicycle industry is conducted. The acquired results justify the efficiency of the proposed approach in controlling and dampening the bullwhip effect and reducing inventory levels, net stock quantities and inventory attributed costs throughout the supply chain network layers.

Abstract:
At the fierce level that companies generally find themselves in, it is no longer allowed to let the missing material off the shelf of a stock, be it material that is part of the product or indirect material that assists in assembly activity. People involved in the item buying activity need to have full control of inventory, whether planning, changing the planned or planning the unexpected. For the preparation of this study, the daily activity of indirect stock operators of a White Line Company was observed. The factory material control system (ERP) has many functions that made control complex. In parallel to the ERP system, a material control worksheet was created and shared in the cloud that allows all necessary information regarding an item to be easily viewed, where the indirect material worksheet manager needs to update daily by downloading every morning information from the ERP system. Getting better inventory supply chain management, better execution of activities.
