Abstract:
In work it is proposed in the digital systems of messages transmission for noise immunity's increase with the fixed code rate to use an additional coding called by the authors orthogonal. The way of a definition of orthogonal codes is presented, the synthesis algorithm of system and inverse system matrices of orthogonal codes is developed, and the main parameters of some matrices constructed by the offered algorithm are specified. Orthogonal coding as a special case of convolutional coding is defined by matrices, which elements are polynomials in the delay variable with integer coefficients. Code words are given by multiplication of an information polynomial by a system matrix, and decoding is performed by multiplication by an inverse system matrix. Basic ratios for orthogonal coding are given in article, and properties of system and inverse matrices are specified. Parameters of system and inverse system matrices assure additional gain in signal-to-noise ratio. This gain is got as a result of a more effective use of energy of transmitted signals. For transmission of one symbol energy of several symbols is accumulated.

Abstract:
The most popular method for computing the matrix logarithm is a combination of the inverse scaling and squaring method in conjunction with a Padé approximation, sometimes accompanied by the Schur decomposition. In this work, we present a Taylor series algorithm, based on the free-transformation approach of the inverse scaling and squaring technique, that uses recent matrix polynomial formulas for evaluating the Taylor approximation of the matrix logarithm more efficiently than the Paterson–Stockmeyer method. Two MATLAB implementations of this algorithm, related to relative forward or backward error analysis, were developed and compared with different state-of-the art MATLAB functions. Numerical tests showed that the new implementations are generally more accurate than the previously available codes, with an intermediate execution time among all the codes in comparison.

Abstract:
Let R be a finite commutative chain ring of characteristic p with invariants p,r, and k. In this paper, we study λ-constacyclic codes of an arbitrary length N over R, where λ is a unit of R. We first reduce this to investigate constacyclic codes of length ps (N=n1ps,p∤n1) over a certain finite chain ring CR(uk,rb) of characteristic p, which is an extension of R. Then we use discrete Fourier transform (DFT) to construct an isomorphism γ between R[x]/<xN−λ> and a direct sum ⊕b∈IS(rb) of certain local rings, where I is the complete set of representatives of p-cyclotomic cosets modulo n1. By this isomorphism, all codes over R and their dual codes are obtained from the ideals of S(rb). In addition, we determine explicitly the inverse of γ so that the unique polynomial representations of λ-constacyclic codes may be calculated. Finally, for k=2 the exact number of such codes is provided.

Abstract:
In order to build a large scale quantum computer, one must be able to correct errors extremely fast. We design a fast decoding algorithm for topological codes to correct for Pauli errors and erasure and combination of both errors and erasure. Our algorithm has a worst case complexity of O(nα(n)), where n is the number of physical qubits and α is the inverse of Ackermann's function, which is very slowly growing. For all practical purposes, α(n)≤3. We prove that our algorithm performs optimally for errors of weight up to (d−1)/2 and for loss of up to d−1 qubits, where d is the minimum distance of the code. Numerically, we obtain a threshold of 9.9% for the 2d-toric code with perfect syndrome measurements and 2.6% with faulty measurements.

Abstract:
It is often hypothesized that a crucial role for recurrent connections in the brain is to constrain the set of possible response patterns, thereby shaping the neural code. This implies the existence of neural codes that cannot arise solely from feedforward processing. We set out to find such codes in the context of one-layer feedforward networks and identified a large class of combinatorial codes that indeed cannot be shaped by the feedforward architecture alone. However, these codes are difficult to distinguish from codes that share the same sets of maximal activity patterns in the presence of subtractive noise. When we coarsened the notion of combinatorial neural code to keep track of only maximal patterns, we found the surprising result that all such codes can in fact be realized by one-layer feedforward networks. This suggests that recurrent or many-layer feedforward architectures are not necessary for shaping the (coarse) combinatorial features of neural codes. In particular, it is not possible to infer a computational role for recurrent connections from the combinatorics of neural response patterns alone. Our proofs use mathematical tools from classical combinatorial topology, such as the nerve lemma and the existence of an inverse nerve. An unexpected corollary of our main result is that any prescribed (finite) homotopy type can be realized by a subset of the form [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text] is a polyhedron.

Abstract:
However, the implementation of sensor networks still presents important challenges such as the generation of Multiple-Access-Interference (MAI) with impulsive nature and the relatively high energy consumption. Both the MAI and the thermal noise should be considered due to their strong impairments each may cause on the communication quality. We employ the stable and Gaussian distributions to model the MAI and the thermal noise respectively. Firstly we study the performance of turbo codes in the direct link and we propose the p-norm as a decoding metric. This metric allows a considerable error correction performance improvement which is close to the optimal decoder. Then we investigate cooperative communications. The probability densities in the decision statistic of the optimal receiver are estimated using importance sampling approach when both the stable and Gaussian noises are present. Such a method is computationally expensive. Hence we develop an approximation approach based on the Normal Inverse Gaussian (NIG) distribution. This solution is efficient for calculation and is proximate to the optimal receiver. In addition we show that the p-norm receiver has robust performance no matter what kind of noise is dominant. At last we combine the channel coding and cooperative communication works to establish a distributed channel coding strategy. Through some simulation assessments, the energy saving strategy can be realized by choosing an appropriate distributed channel coding scheme based on the direct link quality and target bit error rate

Abstract:
Mobile devices such as PDAs and cellular phones became indispensible part of business and entertainment world. There are a number of applications run on these devices and they tend to increase day by day causing devices tend to consume more battery power. H.264/AVC is an emerging video compression standard that is likely to be used widely in multimedia environments. As a mobile application, video compression algorithm of H.264 standard has a complex structure that increase the power demand of realizing hardware. In order to reduce this power demand, power consuming parts of the algorithm like deblocking filter and transform&amp<br>quantization need to be specifically changed for low power application. A low power deblocking filter and inverse transform/quantization algorithm for H.264/AVC decoder is to be proposed and implemented on FPGA.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In this thesis the impact of inverted cones on a liquid surface is studied. It is known that with the right combination of velocity, geometry, and surface treatment, a cavity of air can be formed behind an impacting body and extended for a considerable distance. Other investigators have shown that the time and depth of the cone when this cavity collapses and seals follows a different power law for flat objects such as disks, then it does for slender objects such as cylinders. Intuitively it can be expected that a more slender body will have less drag and that the streamlined shape will not push the fluid out of it's way at impact to the same extent as a more blunt body, therefore forming a smaller cavity behind it. With a smaller initial cavity, the time and depth of it's eventual collapse can be expected to be less than that of a much more blunt object, such as a flat disk. To study this, a numerical model has been developed to simulate cones with the same base radius but different angles impacting on a liquid surface over a range of velocities, showing how the seal depth, time at cavity seal, and drag forces change. In order to ensure the numerical model is accurate, it is compared with experimental data including high speed video and measurements made of the force with time. It is expected that the results will fall inside the power law exponents reported by other authors for very blunt objects such as disks on one end of the spectrum, and long slender cylinders on the other. Furthermore, we expect that the drag force exerted on the cones will become lower as the L/D of the cone is increased.<br>Master of Science

Abstract:
Malware analysts often need to search large corpuses of obfuscated binaries for particular sequences of related instructions. The use of simple tactics, such as dead code insertion and register renaming, prevents the use of conventional, big-data search indexes. Current, state of the art malware detectors are unable to handle the size of the dataset due to their iterative approach to comparing files. Furthermore, current work is also frequently designed to act as a detector and not a search tool. I propose a system that exploits the observation that many data/control-flow relationships between instructions are preserved in the presence of obfuscations. The system will extract chains of flow-dependent instructions from a binary’s Program Dependence Graph (PDG). It will then use a representation of each chain as a key for an index that points to lists of functions (and their corresponding files). Analysts will be able to quickly search for instruction sequences by querying the index.

Abstract:
Powerful remote sensing techniques can covert time variability of polarization profiles of stellar spectral lines into vector magnetic fields maps of stellar surfaces. These techniques are widely applied to interpret observations but have been tested using only simplistic tests. It would be of interest to test magnetic inversion methods using polarization spectra simulated for realistic and physical models of stellar magnetic fields provided by recent 3D numerical simulations. Doppler Imaging is a method to reconstruct vector magnetic field maps of stellar surfaces from variation of polarization profiles. The work in this thesis presents numerical experiments to evaluate the performance of Magnetic Doppler Imaging (MDI) code INVERS10. The numerical experiments showed that in given high-resolution observations in four Stokes parameters, the code is capable of reconstructing magnetic field vector distributions, over the stellar surface, simultaneously and without any prior assumptions about the magnetic field geometry. Input data consists of polarization measurements in the line profiles and the reconstruction is performed by solving the regularized inverse problem. Right results were obtained by testing different type of models covering simple, complex and unusual complex magnetic field distribution. Whilst using incomplete Stokes parameter datasets containing only Stokes I and V profiles, the INVERS10 code was able to reconstruct a global stellar magnetic fields of only simple models and give accurate and reliable results. Testing the code with different inclination and azimuth angle successfully gave the lowest deviation when same values are used from the true map.

Abstract:

Abstract:
AbstractVerification of instruction encoders and decoders is essential for formalizing manipulation of machine code. The existing approaches cannot guarantee the critical consistency property, i.e., that an encoder and its corresponding decoder are mutual inverses of each other. We observe that consistent encoder-decoder pairs can be automatically derived from bijections inherently embedded in instruction formats. Based on this observation, we develop a framework for writing specifications that capture these bijections, for automatically generating encoders and decoders from these specifications, and for formally validating the consistency and soundness of the generated encoders and decoders by synthesizing proofs in Coq and discharging verification conditions using SMT solvers. We apply this framework to a subset of X86-32 instructions to illustrate its effectiveness in these regards. We also demonstrate that the generated encoders and decoders have reasonable performance.

Abstract:
Abstract The concluding chapter reviews and compares the modes of biobordering at the EU level and in Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and the UK with a particular focus on the transnational exchange of DNA data within the Prüm system. This analysis reveals the multiplicity of heterogeneous biobordering regimes that enact different visions of Europe and nationhood and that have implications for de facto hidden integration and disintegration processes in the EU. ‘European integration’ is believed to be achievable by the harmonization of scientific and technical procedures in different countries. However, the mandatory elements of the Prüm Decisions were politically enforced without taking into consideration the significant differences between EU countries. Thus, hidden disintegration comes as a contingency regarding operational and organizational traditions, legislation, the nature of the criminal justice system, and national variations around the human and economic resources to invest in forensic DNA databases and DNA profiling technologies. The conclusion ends with a proposal of a typology systematizing biobordering dynamics derived from the empirical case studies.

In the digital era, more and more information is shared through the internet. This may lead to editing, transmitting, misusing detection and usage of information by unauthorized persons. To avoid such a problem we use the digital right management (DRM) with blockchain. In our daily life, blockchain is a powerful utensil to share the data in decentralized and distributed technology. The DRM process provides security and authentication for the content and owner of the data. In our proposed system, the following steps have been implemented Watermark Embedding with Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), Arnold Transform (AT), Perceptual Hash, Hash Code generation (md5), Watermark Extraction and Blockchain Creation. Discrete Wavelet Transform provides better image quality and robustness. Arnold Transform provides the best watermark encryption. The hash code generation gives a numeric value which helps in the recognizable proof of a ediget during equality testing. Blockchain is used to store the information in a secured manner and also provide timestamp authentication. Watermark extraction is achieved with the inverse of Arnold transform, inverse Discrete Wavelet Transform with the matching of hash code. This system provides secure transactions with copyright-protected data and safe transparent management.

Abstract:
One of the main concerns when it comes to mitigating the effects of the concentration of the particulate matter PMx in an area of study is the fact to determine its behavior over time, overcoming both physical and mathematical limitations in terms of a phenomenon of dispersion. Therefore, this chapter develops and analyzes a model based on the principles of evolutionary computation (EC) in order to determine the space-time behavior of the concentration of the particulate matter PMx in a study area. The proposed model has three submodels within an integrated solution, which constitute the individual to evolve. The transformation of the possible solutions or generational population is made by using an asynchronous evolutionary model, due to genetic dependency between substructures. The proposed model was validated for configurations of n sources of emissions and m monitoring stations that measure the quality of the air in a study area.

Abstract:
Based on the “General Theory of Three-Dimensional Flow in Turbomachines”, an improved method for designing centrifugal impeller blades has been developed. The design procedure is performed with the help of the combination of an S2 inverse problem code, a code for generating a profile on a revolution surface by a two-step series expansion and the codes of S1 direct and inverse problems. After the calculation of the inverse problem on the S2 stream surface is completed, a special series expansion method is used for obtaining a preliminary blade profile, then the relative flow field is predicted by the S1 direct code and is improved by the S1 inverse code. The method is favourable for smoothing the velocity distribution on the blade surface, eliminating the separation bubble and raising the efficiency of the impeller. The present method has been successfuly applied to improving the design of a centrifugal impeller.

Abstract:
Design of centrifugal compressors in different applications from industrial to turbochargers to aeroengine is subject to difficult multi-disciplinary ( aerodynamics and mechanical) and multipoint/multi-objective requirements. These multi-disciplinary and multi-point requirements have to be met by iterations between aerodynamics and mechanical design, leading to long development times and bottlenecks in the design process. In this paper, for the first time, a commercially available solution, compatible with industrial development times, is presented for 3D multi-disciplinary and multi-point design optimisation of turbomachinery blades. The methodology combines 3D inverse design method, automatic optimizers, 3D CFD and 3D FEA codes. The key aspect of the approach is to parameterise the 3D geometry through the blade loading distribution used in 3D inverse design code TURBOdesign1, which results in ability to access large part of design space with very few design parameters. The Design of Experiments method is used to generate a number of geometries which are then analysed by 3D CFD code STAR-CCM+ and 3D FEA code Abaqus. Different performance parameters related to aerodynamics (efficiency, stable operating range etc) and structural integrity (maximum principal stress, etc) are then evaluated. The data is then used to create a response surface. The validity and accuracy of the response surface is evaluated by CFD and FEA and then once confirmed a Multi-objective Genetic Algorithm is run on the response surface to explore the trade-offs between different design parameters, such as peak efficiency, stable operating range and mechanical stress. In this paper the methodology is applied to the redesign of the well-known Eckardt centrifugal compressor impeller.

Abstract:
We analyze the complexity of finite model reasoning in the description logic ALCQI, i.e. ALC augmented with qualifying number restrictions, inverse roles, and general TBoxes. It turns out that all relevant reasoning tasks such as concept satisfiability and ABox consistency are EXPTIME-complete, regardless of whether the numbers in number restrictions are coded unarily or binarily. Thus, finite model reasoning with ALCQI is not harder than standard reasoning with ALCQI.

Jury, William A., and David Russo. Characterization of Field-Scale Solute Transport in Spatially Variable Unsaturated Field Soils. United States Department of Agriculture, 1994. http://dx.doi.org/10.32747/1994.7568772.bard.

Abstract:
This report describes activity conducted in several lines of research associated with field-scale water and solute processes. A major effort was put forth developing a stochastic continuum analysis for an important class of problems involving flow of reactive and non reactive chemicals under steady unsaturated flow. The field-scale velocity covariance tensor has been derived from local soil properties and their variability, producing a large-scale description of the medium that embodies all of the local variability in a statistical sense. Special cases of anisotropic medium properties not aligned along the flow direction of spatially variable solute sorption were analysed in detail, revealing a dependence of solute spreading on subtle features of the variability of the medium, such as cross-correlations between sorption and conductivity. A novel method was developed and tested for measuring hydraulic conductivity at the scale of observation through the interpretation of a solute transport outflow curve as a stochastic-convective process. This undertaking provided a host of new K(q) relationships for existing solute experiments and also laid the foundation for future work developing a self-consistent description of flow and transport under these conditions. Numerical codes were developed for calculating K(q) functions for a variety of solute pulse outflow shapes, including lognormal, Fickian, Mobile-Immobile water, and bimodal. Testing of this new approach against conventional methodology was mixed, and agreed most closely when the assumptions of the new method were met. We conclude that this procedure offers a valuable alternative to conventional methods of measuring K(q), particularly when the application of the method is at a scale (e.g. and agricultural field) that is large compared to the common scale at which conventional K(q) devices operate. The same problem was approached from a numerical perspective, by studying the feasibility of inverting a solute outflow signal to yield the hydraulic parameters of the medium that housed the experiment. We found that the inverse problem was solvable under certain conditions, depending on the amount of noise in the signal and the degree of heterogeneity in the medium. A realistic three dimensional model of transient water and solute movement in a heterogeneous medium that contains plant roots was developed and tested. The approach taken was to generate a single realization of this complex flow event, and examine the results to see whether features were present that might be overlooked in less sophisticated model efforts. One such feature revealed is transverse dispersion, which is a critically important component in the development of macrodispersion in the longitudinal direction. The lateral mixing that was observed greatly exceeded that predicted from simpler approaches, suggesting that at least part of the important physics of the mixing process is embedded in the complexity of three dimensional flow. Another important finding was the observation that variability can produce a pseudo-kinetic behavior for solute adsorption, even when the local models used are equilibrium.

Bennett, Alan B., Arthur Schaffer, and David Granot. Genetic and Biochemical Characterization of Fructose Accumulation: A Strategy to Improve Fruit Quality. United States Department of Agriculture, 2000. http://dx.doi.org/10.32747/2000.7571353.bard.

Full text
Abstract:
The goal of the research project was to evaluate the potential to genetically modify or engineer carbohydrate metabolism in tomato fruit to enhance levels of fructose, a sugar with nearly twice the sweetness value of other sugars. The specific research objectives to achieve that goal were to: 1. Establish the inheritance of a fructose-accumulating trait identified in F1 hybrids of an inferspecific cross between L. hirsutum XL. esculentum and identify linked molecular markers to facilitate its introgression into tomato cultivars. This objective was completed with the genetic data indicating a single major gene, termed Fgr (Fructose glucose ratio), that controlled the partitioning of hexose in the mature fruit. Molecular markers for the gene, were developed to aid introgression of this gene into cultivated tomato. In addition, a second major gene encoding fructokinase 2 (FK2) was found to be a determinant of the fructose to glucose ratio in fruit. The relationship between FK2 and Fgr is epistatic with a combined synergistic effect of the two hirsutum-derived genes on fructose/glucose ratios. 2. Characterize the metabolic and transport properties responsible for high fructose/glucose ratios in fructose-accumulating genotypes. The effect of both the Fgr and FK2 genes on the developmental accumulation of hexoses was studied in a wide range of genetic backgrounds. In all backgrounds the trait is a developmental one and that the increase in fructose to glucose ratio occurs at the breaker stage of fruit development. The following enzymes were assayed, none of which showed differences between genotypes, at either the breaker or ripe stage: invertase, sucrose synthase, FK1, FK2, hexokinase, PGI and PGM. The lack of effect of the FK2 gene on fructokinase activity is surprising and at present we have no explanation for the phenomenon. However, the hirsutum derived Fgr allele was associated with significantly lower levels of phosphorylated glucose, G1c-1-P and G1c-6-P and concomitantly higher levels of the phosphorylated fructose, Fru-6-P, in both the breaker and ripe stage. This suggests a significant role for the isomerase reaction. 3. Develop and implement molecular genetic strategies for the production of transgenic plants with altered levels of enzymes that potentially control fructose/glucose ratios in fruit. This objective focused on manipulating hexokinase and fructokinase expression in transgenic plants. Two highly divergent cDNA clones (Frk1 and Frk2), encoding fructokinase (EC 2.7.1.4), were isolated from tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) and a potato fructokinase cDNA clone was obtained from Dr. Howard Davies. Following expression in yeast, each fructokinase was identified to code for one of the tomato or potato fructokinase isoforms Transgenic tomato plants were generated with the fructokinase cDNA clone in both sense and antisense orientations and the effect of the gene on tomato plants is currently being studied.
