In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in applying inverse data envelopment analysis (DEA) to a wide range of disciplines, and most applications have adopted radial-based inverse DEA models. However, results given by existing radial based inverse DEA models can be unreliable as they neglect slacks while evaluating decision-making units’ (DMUs) overall efficiency level, whereas classic radial DEA models measure the efficiency level through not only radial efficiency index but also slacks. This paper points out these disadvantages with a counterexample, where current inverse DEA

Tsunami is one of the most dangerous natural hazards in the coastal zone worldwide. Large tsunamis are relatively infrequent. Deposits are the only concrete evidence in the geological record with which we can determine both tsunami frequency and magnitude. Numerical modeling of sediment transport during a tsunami is important interdisciplinary research to estimate the frequency and magnitude of past events and quantitative prediction of future events. The goal of this dissertation is to develop robust, accurate, and computationally efficient models for sediment transport during a tsunami. Ther

These techniques are able to record states of individual components of such networks (neurons, genes, proteins) for a large number of configurations. However, the most biologically relevantinformation lies in their connectivity and in the way their components interact, information that these techniques aren't able to record directly. In this thesis, we present a complete framework to inverse render faces with a 3D Morphable Model. By decomposing the image formation process into a geometric and photometric part, we are able to state the problem as a multilinear system which can be solved accurately and efficiently. As we treat each contribution as independent, the objective function is convex in the parameters and a globally optimal solution can be found. We start by recovering 3D shape using a novel algorithm which incorporates generalisation errors of the model obtained from empirical measurements. The algorithm is extend

Abstract There has been increasing interest in the loads caused during interaction between ship propellers and ice. Recent research into propeller ice interaction has produced inverse models that can be used to estimate the propeller moment induced by ice impacts. These models rely on the measurement of the output response of the propulsion shaft, which is inverted to obtain the input propeller load. The particular model considered here makes use of modal superposition to invert the measured shaft response. Though the model has been validated numerically and used with full-scale response data,

We analyze the complexity of finite model reasoning in the description logic ALCQI, i.e. ALC augmented with qualifying number restrictions, inverse roles, and general TBoxes. It turns out that all relevant reasoning tasks such as concept satisfiability and ABox consistency are EXPTIME-complete, regardless of whether the numbers in number restrictions are coded unarily or binarily. Thus, finite model reasoning with ALCQI is not harder than standard reasoning with ALCQI.
