Full textIn this thesis, we study the formation of copper iodide (CuI) and silver copper iodide (Ag,Cu)I thin films from a two-step procedure: deposition of a metallic film by magnetron sputtering and iodination in iodine vapor. Numerous techniques have been used to determine the films properties such as: X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, Hall effect, UV-visible spectroscopy… For CuI films, we obtained transparent p-type semiconductors films crystallizing in the γ-phase with wide bandgap (Eg ≈ 3.05 eV). Copper iodide films grow with a strong preferred orientation along the [111] direction. SEM analysis of thin film morphology demonstrates that iodination conditions can affect crystal size. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) have revealed crystallographic twin domains in CuI crystals, revealing their geometry and orientation. The films are highly conductive, optically transparent and exhibit high value of figure of merit. The properties of (Ag,Cu)I thin films have been studied using the same methods as a function of the silver content. (Ag,Cu)I films can be either p-type or n-type, depending on Ag concentration. Nevertheless, no structural change has been evidenced by XRD. The optical band gap can be monitor by the progressive addition of silver. The same is true for the electrical activation energy. In addition, the PL results showed a tendency of the PL spectral features of CuI to be changed to those of AgI with the increase of the silver content. A correlation between the optical and electrical results was established and evidenced the origin of the electrical behaviour. It is proposed that presence of Ag in (Ag,Cu)I thin films promotes the formation of the I-vacancies, which act as donor type defect, and eventually, with increasing the Ag content, crossover the carriers from p-type to n-type occurs

Full textThe aim of our work was the use of anode buffer layers to improve the performances of organic solar cells based on small molecules such as phtalocyanine, Oligothiophene and triphenylamine. However, the introduction of 3 nm of molybdenum oxide at the interface between the ITO (tin-doped indium ox-ide), used as anode, and the different donors of electron leads to an improvement of charge collection efficiency, therefore, the efficiency of the solar cells. Meanwhile, the replacement of MoO3 by 3 nm of CuI increases the carrier mobility of the conductivity of the organic layers, which consequently improves the density of the short circuit current Jsc. When the hybrid buffer layer MoO3 /CuI is used at the interface ITO/electron donors, best results were obtained irrespective of the electron donor, which can be explained by the double role: MoO3 provides a very good charge collection, and CuI which im-proves Jsc by affecting the growth mode of the organic layers. After validating the applicability of these buffer layers when the ITO was used as anode of the solar cells, other conductive and transparent electrodes such as sputtered aluminum-doped zinc oxide (AZO), tin doped indium oxide (FTO), as well as multi layer structures MoO3/Ag/MoO3 were used as anode. We have shown that these electrodes are considered as an alternative to replace ITO, especially after optimizing their interface with the CuPc used as electron donor using MoO3 , CuI and MoO3 /CuI buffer layers

Full textMaterials exhibiting luminescence stimuli-responsive properties, present potential applications as detection systems. This thesis concerns the study of copper (I) iodide molecular clusters coordinated by phosphine ligands, which exhibit mechanochromic luminescence properties. These compounds are characterized by a change of their emission wavelength in response to mechanical stress. In this thesis, new clusters were synthesized and characterized. The establishment of structureproperties relationships permit to study the mechanisms responsible for their mechanochromic properties. The main characterization techniques used are solid-state NMR, X-ray diffraction, Infrared and Raman spectroscopies. DFT (Density functional theory) calculations were also carried out to rationalize the different results and in particular the optical properties. In addition to the mechanochromic properties, these compounds have the particularity of exhibiting thermochromic luminescence properties. Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties were also demonstrated for these clusters. In order to obtain clusters exhibiting multiple emission, ligands having luminescent groups were also studied

Full textHeterocycles of oxygen, nitrogen and sulfur are patterns found in many natural products possessing interesting biological activities. Several researchers describe the synthesis of oxygen and nitrogen based heterocycles using transition metals as catalyst. In the present study, we focused initially on the copper-catalyzed synthesis of pyrano[3',4':4,5]imidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-1-ones by a tandem coupling-heterocyclisation reaction from derivatives of 3-iodo-, 3,6- or (3,8) diiodoimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine-2-carboxylic acid and terminal alkynes in the presence of copper (I) salts as catalyst in DMF. This procedure does not require the use of any expensive transition metal complexes like palladium and supplement any additives. The extension of this methodology to 2,3,5-triiodobenzoic acid allowed the regioselective synthesis of new isocoumarins substituted in positions 3, 5 and 7. Regioselective reactivity of iodine atoms in position 5 and 7 has been studied by palladium coupling reactions and nucleophilic substitution to broad its synthesis to a wide variety of new substituted isocoumarins
