This master thesis deals with the topic of Internet of Things and its use in technical diagnostic. In theoretical part, there is a description of IoT systems and its parts, history of the IoT, communication modules and cloud systems. The second part of the thesis is focused on the description of technical diagnostic, diagnostic signal, and detailed description of two methods, most appropriate for use in IoT systems and that is vibrodiagnostic and thermodiagnostic. The practical part is focused on the application of the IoT system in technical diagnostics, including the measurement of vibrations and temperature, on the description of application in cloud system and analysis of measured results in cloud system. Prior to the end the more actions in this field of IoT systems has been recommended.

Home surveillance is a major concern in this day and age as with the rapid increase in the technology around us. There is a need to get updated with new possibilities to make our lives better and easy. Some cases and situations exhibit the need for home monitoring. So, we set out to discover a solution to this problem of home monitoring. Generally, we have issues with pets and kids alike such as approaching dangerous places like electric switches, stairs, and hot things. Not only a problem with kids and pets but also a chance of burglary and stranger's unusual activities. To overcome this problem we are designing and prototyping a system to keep an eye on kids, pets, and older people. This system is used in other applications like theft monitoring. The device can monitor the field all the time. In this way, this system helps in-home monitoring. The system consists of Arduino, which is the brain of the system, the PIR sensor, ESP32-CAM, and buzzer. The PIR sensor detects motion then gives input to the Arduino. Arduino gives output to the ESP32-CAM and buzzer. The ESP32-CAM can be activated and sends information to the user through the web Interface and the application. The user can see the video streaming on the PC screen or any other display. The buzzer can emit a high volume signal indicating that "there is an alert at the home".

The Internet of Things (IoT) has seen a huge growth spurt in the last few years which has resulted in the need for more standardised IoT technology. Because of this, numerous IoT platforms have sprung up that offer a variety of features and use different technologies which may not necessarily be compliant with each other or with other technologies. Companies that wish to enter theIoT market are in constant need to find the most suitable IoT platform for their business and have a certain set of requirements that need to be fulfilled by the IoT platforms in order for the application to be fully functional. The problem that this thesis project is trying to address is a standardised procedure for selecting the IoT platforms. The project aims to suggest a list of requirements derived from the available IoT architecture models, that must be followed by IoT applications in general, and a subset of these requirements may be specified by the companies as essentials for their application. This thesis project also aims at development of a Web platform to automate this process, by listing the requirements on this website and allowing companies to input their choices,and accordingly show them the list of IoT platforms that comply with their input requirements. A simple Weighted Sum Model is used to rank the search result in order to prioritise the IoT platforms in order of the features that they provide. This thesis project also infers the best IoT architectural model available based on a comparative study of three major IoT architectures with respect to the requirements proposed. Hence the project concludes that this Web platform will ease the process of searching for the right IoT platform andthe companies can therefore make an informed decision about the kind of IoT platform that they should use, thereby reducing their time spent on market research and hence their time-to-market.

Cloud-based system for IoT data acquisition
The purpose of IoT is to bring the physical world into a digital one and allowing it to be controlled
and monitored from a virtual standpoint.
The interest in IoT has increased due to its many applications in various fields, but IoT systems still
deal with challenges such as the support of a high volume of connections or the low processing
capacity of devices faced with data security algorithms.
The objective of this dissertation is to create a data collection for air quality sensors system, that
solves those challenges based on state of the art technologies, giving preference to open-source
tools.
Implementation was done around Apache Kafka, with Spring Boot and VerneMQ receiving data,
HMAC granting a level security on data transport and PostgreSQL with the plugin Timescale storing
the data. A prototype of the system was implemented in Docker containers, but we were unable to
orchestrate them through Kubernetes.

Andresen<br>With an improvement in technology and miniaturization of sensors, there have been attempts to utilize the new technology in various areas to improve the quality of human life. One main area of research that has seen an adoption of the technology is the healthcare sector. The people in need of healthcare services find it very expensive this is particularly true in developing countries.
As a result, this project is an attempt to solve a healthcare problem currently society is facing. The main objective of the project was to design a remote healthcare system. It’s comprised of three main parts. The first part being, detection of patient’s vitals using sensors, second for sending data to cloud storage and the last part was providing the detected data for remote viewing. Remote viewing of the data enables a doctor or guardian to monitor a patient’s health progress away from hospital premises.
The Internet of Things (IoT) concepts have been widely used to interconnect the available medical resources and offer smart, reliable, and effective healthcare service to the patients. Health monitoring for active and assisted living is one of the paradigms that can use the IoT advantages to improve the patient’s lifestyle. In this project, I have presented an IoT architecture customized for healthcare applications. The aim of the project was to come up with a Remote Health Monitoring System that can be made with locally available sensors with a view to making it affordable if it were to be mass produced.
Hence the proposed architecture collects the sensor data through Arduino microcontroller and relays it to the cloud where it is processed and analyzed for remote viewing. Feedback actions based on the analyzed data can be sent back to the doctor or guardian through Email and/or SMS alerts in case of any emergencies.

The newly defined NB-IoT standard currently lacks a toolkit and simulator. In order to develop algorithms for this new standard there is a need for channels and signals as reference during tests. MATLAB is commonly used for testing LTE signals and therefore the toolkit was developed in this environment. The toolkit focuses primarily on the Layer 1-relevant functionality of NB-IoT, the grid generation, encoding, rate-matching and modulation of channels. The simulator focuses on testing the developed toolkit in a virtual LTE NB-IoT environment. The virtual environment attempts to emulate a base station and a terminal. The path followed is scheduling, channel processing, grid generation, QPSK and OFDM modulation through a modeled channel, OFDM demodulation, channel estimation, equalisation, QPSK demodulation and reversal of channel processing. The simulator tests primarily the NPDSCH channel implementations. Measurements of bit error and block error rates were made and it was concluded that they follow the expected trends. More testing is required to validate the remaining channels. A sector equaliser and an interpolating equaliser were tested by measuring block error rate and checking constellation diagrams and it was concluded that the performance of the interpolation equaliser is more consistent. In order to improve the equalisation further the noise estimation must be reworked.

Urban expansion is a key driving force of our modern world. Increasing environmental footprint is an example issue that is directly caused by it. The city of St. Petersburg employs on average almost 500 garbage trucks on a daily basis and spends more than 1 million US Dollars every year to collect, process and manage waste. In order for megacities, such as St. Petersburg, to cope with its effects, new ideas are needed. This seems to be an obvious area in which technology can be used to improve current practices and help save resources. In this study, we investigate how the Internet of Things, blockchain and Quantum Key Distribution systems can be integrated to provide a safe and efficient method for improving the waste management process in the context of Smart City projects. Our implemented simulations in Mininet show that there are some clear challenges with regards to the adoption of blockchain technology in an IoT environment. However, the integration of quantum channels and the use of Quantum Key Distribution within the blockchain infrastructure shows good potential for balancing the advantages and disadvantages of blockchain. With the implemented simulations we demonstrate the superior capabilities of the Proof of Infrastructure blockchain solution, which can facilitate secure transactions within the waste management scenario.

This thesis studies the phenomenon of human-system interaction in smart homes as a practice of Internet of Things. The research was conducted through interviews, workshops and observations and followed an interpretive research paradigm of phenomenologically-situated paradigm of HCI and a qualitative research approach. The theories of Phenomenology and Postphenomenology were used to interpret the experiences, beliefs and views of the participants. The empirical findings were processed and a thematic analysis was followed in order to identify the main themes that emerged out of the interviews, workshops and observations. The discussion of the findings showed that the research questions were answered to the grade that the participants of the research design, use and interact with smart homes in a multiple and complex way.

The thesis deals with the design and creation of a weather station suitable for gardeners. The created device is able to measure temperature, pressure, humidity, amount of precipitation, wind speed and direction, UV index and also temperature and soil moisture at several depths. The weather station is powered by a battery with auxiliary charging from a photovoltaic panel. The thesis is divided into several parts. The theoretical part describes the individual physical principles of measurement of the considered physical quantities. Subsequently, a comparison of available sensors is made and then a final selection is made. The third part deals with the design and implementation of the hardware circuitry including the creation of the PCB. In this section, the holders of each sensor are also designed for printing on a 3D printer, which are then printed. The fourth section deals with software design issues, which is described in more detail. Finally, the whole weather station is assembled, wired and the functionality of all components is verified by sending the measured data to Thingspeak.

This work presents an energy system design for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) after applying our design the WSN should theoretically have an infinite lifetime. Energy harvesting sources can provide suitable energy for WSN nodes and reduce their dependence on battery. In this project, an efficient energy harvesting and storage system is proposed. By using (two supercapacitors and four DC/DC converters with step up /step down capabilities) all of them controlled by Microcontroller via switches to consider the best way to save energy to keep the WSN alive as long as possible. The usage of supercapacitors as an energy buffer to supply the sensor components (microcontroller and radio) with energy it needs to work. We could control the energy flow according to a specific voltage levels in supercapacitors to guaranty the full functionality for WSN with minimizing the loss of energy, and that’s leads to long time life for the wireless sensor node WSN. Another important thing we find in our experiment that is the inner leakage of the supercapacitor and how it has a critical effect on how long it can serve our system with energy. This paper contains on two theoretical sections (Part one and part two) which are based on literature reviews, and one experimental section (Part three) based on experimental building the prototype, coding and testing.

The goal of this diploma thesis is to design and develop a system for collecting, processing and storing data from large IoT networks. The developed system introduces a complex solution able to process data from various IoT networks using Apache Hadoop ecosystem. The data are real-time processed and stored in a NoSQL database, but the data are also stored in the file system for a potential later processing. The system is optimized and tested using data from IQRF network. The data stored in the NoSQL database are visualized and the system periodically generates derived predictions. Users are connected to this system via an information system, which is able to automatically generate notifications when monitored values are out of range.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has the vision to interconnect everything of the physical world and the virtual world. Advanced automated and adaptive connectivity of objects, systems, and services is expected to be achieved under the IoT context, especially in the industrial environment. Industry 4.0 with the goal of intelligent and self-adaptable manufacturing is driven by the IoT. The Object Layer, where real-time and reliable information acquisition from the physical objects carried out, is the basic enabler in the 3-layer industrial IoT system. Such acquisition system features deterministic access, reliable communication with failure resistance mechanism, latency-aware real-time response, deployable structure/protocol, and adaptive performance on various QoS demands. This thesis proposes a reliable RFID communication system for acquisition in the industrial environment. A discrete gateway structure and a contention-free communication protocol are designed to fulfill the unique system requirements. Such gateway structure offers a flexible configuration of readers and RF technologies. It enables a full duplex communication between the objects and the gateway. The designed MF-TDMA protocol can enhance the failure resistance and emergency report mechanism thanks to the separation of control link and data link in the gateway. Specifically, an optional ARQ mechanism, an independent/uniform synchronization and control method, and a slot allocation optimization algorithm are designed besides time-division and frequency-division multiplexing. Protocol implementations for different industrial situations illustrate the system ability for supporting the demands of various QoS. Finally, a 2.4-GHz/UWB hybrid positioning platform is explored based on the introduced RFID system. Taking advantage of the UWB technology, the positioning platform can achieve positioning accuracy from meter level to centimeter level. Hybrid tag prototype and specific communication process based on the MF-TDMA protocol are designed. An SDR UWB reader network, capable of evaluating multiple algorithms, is built to realize accurate positioning with an improved algorithm proposed.<br><p>QC 20161109</p>

IoT industry is growing at a rapid pace since everyone wants to connect everything to internet in order to use various services and applications using shared data. Openness is observed as an emerging trend in IoT industry. Security & privacy of the data are very important aspects in the design and deployment of the connected devices or Internet of Things. Fast growth in number of connected devices, heterogeneity, constrained resources, privacy, software upgrades and operational environment create important security related challenges in this domain. It is difficult to address challenges even with the considerable amount of existing work that has been done for decades in the area of security & privacy. In this research, a semi-systematic literature survey of the state of the art is conducted related to security & privacy aspects within the IoT area. The results were validated by conducting qualitative survey with IoT practitioners. The efforts have resulted towards identifying several security trends & challenges and security design aspects that can be considered by IoT practitioners in order to design an open and secure IoT system.It can be concluded from the study that security is not only needed but is a mandatory characteristic for IoT. However, there are no general guidelines that can be proposed to address security issues since security is not only a technical problem but is more of an awareness, mindset, people and process issue. In this thesis, a novel model is proposed with openness and security characteristics. This model is grounded based on the theoretical findings and empirical data obtained from IoT practitioners. Each of the characteristics has its own design aspects that needs to be considered by IoT practitioners to design a more secure IoT system.

Air pollution is a global issue which has negative impacts not only on the environment but also on human health. Therefore, it is important to design and implement systems to allow cities and villages to monitor air quality so that they take the required actions to maintain a good air quality in the city/village. Since IoT facilitates implementing efficient monitoring systems, many IoT systems have been proposed to monitor air pollution. In this paper, we review different IoT-based systems to monitor air quality. In addition, we do an experiment where we propose and evaluate our system to monitor air pollution in a smart village, Veberöd, utilizing the LoRaWAN and the IoT platform, Yggio, which is already used in the village. Our proposed system is used to monitor temperature, humidity, pressure, PM1, PM2.5, PM10, CO2, and CO. As a result of our experiment, we found that the data received by Yggio was encoded, and Yggio did not provide the decoding functionality to decode the data sent from our devices. Therefore, another IoT platforms were used to decode, visualize, and analyse the data. The results of the experiments shows that as far as PM1, PM2.5, PM10, and CO are concerned, the air quality in the village is good. The results also showed that some LoRaWAN messages were lost and never received on Yggio.

Global logistics market is expected to reach US$15.5 trillion by 2023 but many companies loss billions of dollars because of improper handling, theft and tracking problems. Especially when high value goods are transported there is a need to monitor their condition because they can be affected by the environmental changes that might be harmful or due to any dangerous mechanical conditions during transportation. Real time condition monitoring applications serve the purpose of providing alerts, analytics and reports of these harmful or dangerous conditions to ensure that goods are transported without any damage or with minimal damage. This thesis considers how to combine software and hardware solution to monitor different conditions and report during transportation. This report focusses on designing and testing the device for real time condition monitoring of consumer goods package during transportation. The proposed device, called Asset Condition Monitoring System, uses FTP protocol to transfer the GPS information along with monitored information through different sensors as an event over a GSM network to a server. The design can be adapted to any type of product. The prototype developed is equipped with different sensors that assess the environmental conditions along with some of mechanical aspects of the package throughout the transit. The device is tested in a real time environment and provides information on the possible events that might compromise the integrity of the package. The system enables the customer to assess the quality of the package. The design is based on agile method in a user driven framework. The thesis design, model and tests the condition monitoring system according to the requirements and constraints, which can be different to different assets while considering packaging and mode of transportation. For this project, Seagate Hard Drives are considered as an asset to monitor.

The objectives of the thesis were: (i) to evaluate the use of automatic systems and the related sensor-based technologies (Precision Dairy Farming – PDF - systems) in three important areas of a dairy farming; (ii) to assess different methods of estimating liner compression (LC) by using a new test device and a novel artificial teat sensor, both specifically designed and built. Four studies were carried out to achieve these goals.
In the first study “Use of a proactive herd management system in a dairy farm of northern Italy: technical and economic results” the reproductive and economical performances of an AMS farm that adopted a proactive herd management system (Herd Navigator™) were analyzed. Reproductive and economic data were recorded before and one year after the installation of Herd Navigator™. Number of days open reduced from 166 to 103 days, number of days between the first and second insemination decreased from 45 to 28 days, and days for identifying an abortion were 80 % less, from 31 to 6 days. The preliminary results highlighted the usefulness of the proactive herd management system implemented for the reproduction management. A basic economic model was proposed to evaluate the potential economic benefits coming from the introduction of this technology. The model considered the benefits deriving from the reduction of reproduction problems and, consequently, of days open. Considering the effects related to the above mentioned aspects in a case study involving 60 dairy cows, a return on investment over 5 years was calculated.
In the second study “Evaluation of an electronic system for automatic calving detection on a dairy farm”, a GSM-based remote alarm system for automatic calving detection was evaluated - in terms of sensitivity and PPV- as useful and reliable tool to detect the exact moment of calving in the field. Up to date, various monitoring technologies and protocols have been proposed to predict the exact moment of the calving but none of them have been adopted widely by producers due to high costs, difficulties of execution or lack of quality staff. Visual observation of the cow’s behavior is still the most frequent. The system object of the study, showed very high sensitivity and PPV, respectively 100% and 95 %, allowing the farm staff to be present at the moment of calving in 100 % of cases when cow were monitored using this system. Cows not monitored by this system, were assisted only in 17% of cases (P<0.001). The farm staff, if present during this crucial and important moment, could assist the animal preventing possible problems for the cow and the calf. This possibility would be of great interest particularly with heifers and with problematic cows.
In the third study “Evaluation of the performance of the first automatic milking system for buffaloes”, the response of buffaloes to automatic milking and the related performance of the system were investigated. Automatic milking systems (AMS) are a revolutionary innovation in dairy cow farming and can now be considered a well-established technology. In 2008, automatic milking of dairy buffaloes was introduced for the first time in a commercial farm in southern Italy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the response of buffaloes to automatic milking, examining the relationships between milking interval, milk production, and milking time for this species. A total of 7,550 milking records from an average of 40 buffaloes milked by an AMS were analyzed during a 3-mo experimental period at a commercial farm with Italian Mediterranean buffaloes in southern Italy. Date and time of animal identification, milk yield, milking duration, milking interval, and average milk flow rate were determined for each milking. The results were also used to predict the maximum number of milkings per day and the optimal number of buffaloes per AMS for different levels of milk production. The average interval period between 2 consecutive milkings was 10.3 h [standard deviation (SD) 3.3]. Overall, 3.4 and 25.7% of the milkings had an interval of ≤6 h or >12 h, respectively. Milking duration averaged 8.3 min per buffalo per milking (SD 2.7). The average milk flow rate was 1.3 kg/min (SD 0.5) at a milk yield of 2.8 kg per milking (SD 1.4). Assuming that the milking station is occupied 80% of the time, the number of milkings ranged from 136 to 152 per day and the optimal number of buffaloes per AMS ranged from 59 to 66 when the production level increased from 2 to 5 kg of milk per milking. Automatic milking systems seems suitable for buffalo, opening new options for the management of dairy buffalo farms.
In the last study “Methods of estimating Liner Compression” the aim was to compare different methods of estimating liner compression (LC) by using a new test device and a novel artificial teat sensor, both specifically designed and built.
Liner compression (LC) is the pressure applied to the teat end when liner collapses during the d-phase of pulsation. Liners with higher LC are thought to increase the occurrence of teat-end hyperkeratosis. Overpressure (OP)has been proposed as a relative indicator of LC. By using the new test device developed,
two methods of measuring overpressure were compared: liner overpressure (OP) was measured with no pulsation (OPnp) and with limited pulsation (OPlp) repeatedly on the same cow during a single milking. Each of the six liners (three round liners and three triangular liners) used in this study were tested on the same six experimental cows. OPnp and OPlp were measured on all four teats of each experimental cow twice for each liner. The order of OPnp and OPlp alternated sequentially for each cow test. The OP results for the six liners were also compared to LC estimated on the same liners with a novel artificial teat sensor (ATS). The OPlp method showed small but significantly higher values than the OPnp method (13.9 kPa vs. 13.4 kPa). The OPlp method would be recommended as the preferred method as it more closely approximates normal milking condition. OP values decreased significantly between the first and the following measurements, (from 15.0 kPa to 12.4 kPa). Thus, performing the OP test at a consistent time, one minute after attaching the teatcup to a well-stimulated teat, to reduce the variability produced by OP changing during the peak flow period would be recommend. The new test device showed several advantages over previously published methods of measuring OP. A high correlation between OP and LC estimated by the ATS was found, however, difficulties were noted when using the ATS with triangular liners.

Genom intervjuer med potentiella kunder kunde information tas fram angående dagens läge inställningen till ny teknik. Den informationen som kom fram under dessa intervjuer användes för att skapa en affärsmodell som ska användas som grund för en affärplan för Safeline.En affärsmodell skapades för Safeline Sweden AB och deras nya produkt IMS. I affärmodellen framgår det bland annat hur företaget bör lansera den nya produkten, hur kundrelationer ska skapas, utvecklas och behållas. The company Safeline Sweden AB has developed a product that will make it easier to monitor elevators from a distance. An investigation of this product has been done and what their advantages were. After that, a buisness model was formed for Safelines new product IMS. By interviewing potential customers, the information about the sitaution today and the approach for new technology was discovered. The information from the interviews was then used to create a good and sustainable business model for Safeline.A buisness model was created for Safeline Sweden AB and the produkt IMS. The business model describes how the company should launch the new product, how the customer relations should be created, developed and retained. The information from the interviews made it clear that the IMS should be sold as a system solution because it is considered to be more attractive and be more valu-able for the customers.

The research work presented in this thesis is based on the concept and defintion of network that can spread in several and different real world contexts. Indeed, we can refer to a network in a telecommunications sense considering a collection of transmitters, receivers, and communication channels that send or are used to send information to one another. However, as a matter of fact, in nature there are other several examples of networks: the human brain is one of them. The relationship between the actors in Hollywood can be studied in terms of network as well, a generic social community can be compared to a network, eco-systems are networks of species. The recent Network Science aims at studying all these systems using a set of common mathematical methods. In the following of the thesis, we will focus on some of well known telecommunications networks issues using standard telecommunications procedures to address them, with relevant reference to video flow transmissions and management of electric vehicles networks. At the same time, different models aiming at reach the same goals in contexts that may differ from a telecommunications setup can be used. In more details, we will evaluate queueing systems, jamming problems, groups recognition in networks, and mobile computing using game theoretic approaches. It is worth noting that this aspect can be also seen in a reverse order. Indeed, we will discuss how standard telecommunications analysis can be used to investigate on problems not directly related to a telecommunications background. Network Science è la disciplina scientifica che si propone di studiare tutti questi sistemi usando un insieme comune di modelli matematici. In questa tesi ci focalizzeremo su alcune ben note problematiche relative a reti di telecomunicazioni usando classici metodi e modelli nati nell'ambito delle telecomunicazioni per analizzarle; in particolare, valuteremo trasmissioni video e la gestione di reti di veicoli elettrici. Allo stesso tempo, si può pensare di applicare a queste, o simili, tematiche modelli diversi che si propongono di raggiungere gli stessi obiettivi ma in contesti che possono differire da quelli propri delle telecomunicazioni. These data are used to help people to do studies, produce goods, improve the efficiency of the industrial development, and so on. Especially considering the Internet of things which connects all the smart machines together, the importance of data integrity gets unprecedented attention from us. In order to keep the data integrity, blockchain comes to its birth using its own structure to guarantee the data integrity efficiently. This project is focus on the simulation of data system based on the blockchain in the background of industrial internet of things which is shown in a form of a website with coding language jade and the environment is Node.Js. The main task is to measure the time consumed in the process of block mining under different parameters include data length, nonce, difficulty, sensor number in order to find the correlation between block mining time and different parameters. Thus, the rule about the impact of different parameter on the mining time are concluded. According to the rule I found, the evaluation about scalability, efficiency and safety of this system are given and I also summarize two formulas to calculate the efficiency of block mining. Ethical consideration and future work are addressed in the conclusion part.

The Internet of Things (IoT) comprises a large number of heterogeneous devices. It is forecasted that up to 50 billion devices will be connected to the Internet by 2020. All of them have to be configured. Due to the heterogeneity of devices and the enormous increasing number of devices, manual configuration becomes more and more complex and inefficient. Zero configuration is put forward to solve this problem, which makes device configured automatically without additional manual involvement. Besides that, there are many security threats we want to avoid in the future. These security problems include unauthenticated nodes accessing to IoT data, denial of service, lack of confidentiality, malicious attack from hackers and so on. This paper studies the characteristics of IoT firstly and then highlights the implementation of zero configuration and security to IoT. This paper describes the underlying features of zero configuration and primary requirements of security, as well as finds some related mature technologies, based on that proposes a concise solution – combining the Bonjour and many security approaches for implementation of a secure zero IoT system. In addition, this solution is implemented in a small environment scenario of IoT, a smart home. All the programs are in Java language. Evaluation and conclusion are done in final phase.

The rapidly evolving Internet of Things (IoT) systems demands addressing new requirements. This particularly needs efficient deployment of IoT systems to meet the quality requirements such as latency, energy consumption, privacy, and bandwidth utilization. The increasing availability of computational resources close to the edge has prompted the idea of using these for distributed computing and storage, known as edge computing. Edge computing may help and complement cloud computing to facilitate deployment of IoT systems and improve their quality. However, deciding where to deploy the various application components is not a straightforward task, and IoT system designer should be supported for the decision. To support the designers, in this thesis we focused on the system qualities, and aimed for three main contributions. First, by reviewing the literature, we identified the relevant and most used qualities and metrics. Moreover, to analyse how computer simulation can be used as a supporting tool, we investigated the edge computing simulators, and in particular the metrics they provide for modeling and analyzing IoT systems in edge computing. Finally, we introduced a method to represent how multiple qualities can be considered in the decision. In particular, we considered distributing Deep Neural Network layers as a use case and raked the deployment options by measuring the relevant metrics via simulation.

According to the model architecture of the current IoT system, I have developed an IoT system that can be applied to microprocessors. It is mainly divided into three parts: FPGA, AX88796 network chip and human machine interface. The FPGA part consists of an internal controller and an enhanced 8051 CPU core. The internal controller is responsible for trajectory planning and motor control and peripheral I/O. The enhanced 8051 core is responsible for network chip communication and upper layer network packet parsing. Processing, file system management. The AX88796 network chip is mainly responsible for packet reception and transmission, physical layer network packet parsing and processing. The human-machine interface is an instant monitoring system that provides instant access to sensor information under the system.
The research of this thesis is mainly for the application of CoAP protocol and the establishment of Internet of Things system and network communication protocol based on FPGA core. First, use the Internet of Things model to integrate TCP/IP-related communication protocols, use Keil C software to write network system programs, and use WireShark as a network inspection and verification tool to design and implement IoT systems. On the other hand, it is based on the human-machine interface, providing an interface for system applications for users to use, and providing a CoAP monitoring interface to monitor all sensor information under the network to achieve real-time monitoring and network communication.

In this thesis, we concern two main challenges： one is secure IoT framework and the other is a Green-House IoT system under this framework.
In Taiwan agriculture practice, each farmer usually has a very limited space and limited facilities. In such conditions, a green-house system augmented with effective IoT systems could improve the productivity and the quality of the produce. The traditional control interface of a green-house system is not friendly (some are just manual setting), costly and not data-driven. With the advent of the cloud computing and low-cost Internet-of-Things (IoT) platforms, we can apply these low-cost and effective technologies to monitor/control the environment conditions and the facilities. And, a real-time data analysis is crucial to the success of an agriculture IoT system. With RethinkDB, raspyberry pi, tornado, and Splunk, we develop an efficient-and-effective greenhouse system to achieve the above goals.
Regarding the secure IoT framework, we especially focus on the device management and authentication of those Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT)-based IoT systems, because they are very popular. We propose a secure MQTT-based IoT framework and design an effective device management and authentication mechanism. With this framework and mechanism, we can effective manage/authenticate the devices. One advantage of our design is that the mechanism can be easily integrated with existent MQTT standards and platforms.

Under such circumstances, the life of the elderly will become an increasingly serious problem for the community. In the end, it is a very important issue how to help the elderly to take care of their health. Nowadays, families often can not live with their elders because of their work needs. At this time, they can not afford to spend more time looking after their elders. Therefore, we need an action-based care system to help measure blood pressure, heartbeat and follow-up management, and more effective and convenient for elderly care. In addition, the system also proposes "Operational Security", "Access Control" and "Voice Calling" functions. In our opinion, operational safety may sometimes turn into an elderly killer. If the surrounding environment is not safe, it may easily cause the elderly to fall or wounded. The consequences will be disastrous. Safety management is also very important because quite a number of older people are slowly frustrated, causing problems to be missed. We hope to use dynamic cameras and three-axis sensors to dynamically detect elderly activity areas and detect facial features with face recognition to further enable the care givers to control elderly people's safety.

To do this project first moisture sensor which is giving ADC value instead of moisture percentage validity and comparison of soil moisture sensor is done through iteration method by putting sample in oven .It was observed that for high moisture content the value of sensor output is low and for dry soil the value is high .in this manner some threshold value is set at which motor will start irrigating the farm field .This provides a great relief to farmers as far as their crop production is taken in to consideration because over irrigation allows the salt to come on the surface of farm field which degraded the quality of soil leads to poor production of particular crops .

It plays a role of integrating the operation flow between practitioners, employees and customers, to achieve the effect of reducing the manpower demand cost and improving the overall operation efficiency.
As the current restaurant systems are mostly of stand-alone operation or closed system design. de informação permitem a deteção precoce de condições anormais e ajudam na
sua prevenção. O objetivo é criar um destes sistemas compostos por uma rede
de sensores que é implementada numa peça de roupa através de fios condutores
com sensores conectados. Em contato com o corpo humano tem a função de fazer
várias leituras, e.g., temperatura corporal, pulsação, entre outras. Outro objetivo
é detetar quedas do utilizador. A deteção de quedas é cada vez mais importante
para o utilizador, pois é uma situação que pode colocar em risco a sua saúde.
Para o desenvolvimento deste conceito, são utilizadas Comunicações Móveis e o
Sistema de Posicionamento Global. A primeira é uma tecnologia que permite criar
chamadas de emergência em resposta a alarmes do sistema, o segundo indica qual
a sua posição geográfica. Para complementar o sistema, existe uma plataforma
online que regista a posição do utilizador tal como os seus dados. Tem também

rise to new concepts that aim to improve or even prolong people’s lives. Wearable
monitoring systems, along with wireless communications, form the basis of an
emerging class of sensor networks. These information technologies enable the
early detection of abnormal conditions and help in their prevention. The goal is to
create one of these systems composed by a network of sensors that is implemented
in a garment through conductive wires with connected sensors. In contact with the
human body it has the function of doing several readings, e.g., body temperature,
heartbeat, among others. Another goal is to detect user falls. The detection of
falls is increasingly important for the user, as it is a situation that can endanger
people’s health. For the development of this concept, Mobile Communications
and the Global Positioning System are used. The first is a technology that allows
to create emergency calls in response to system alarms, the second indicates the
geographical location. To complement the system there is an online platform that
registers the position of the user as well as his data. There is also an alert area
in which the user can check his alarming values. In case of emergency the system
contacts the emergency services or in special cases help can be obtained through
an UAV.

Os sistemas de Internet of Things (IoT) estão a experienciar um rápido crescimento devido à sua aplicabilidade em vários domínios, desde cidades inteligentes até aos cuidados de saúde. Nestes sistemas, os dispositivos comunicam entre si, ou com a infraestrutura, recorrendo a comunicações machine-to-machine (M2M). Uma vez que muitos destes dispositivos são simples, com escassa capacidade de processamento, foram desenvolvidos protocolos M2M como o Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) e o Messaging Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT), bem como frameworks de suporte de comunicações M2M. Apesar dos desenvolvimentos nesta tecnologia, ainda são encontrados desafios no desenvolvimento de aplicações M2M e IoT a nível da interoperabilidade, escalabilidade e padronização, por exemplo. Consequentemente, vários standards M2M foram desenvolvidos para superar estes desafios, sendo o oneM2M um deles. Atualmente, existem vários dispositivos disponíveis com uma interface WiFi embebida, o que significa que quando inseridos num sistema IoT, não necessitam de uma gateway (GW) para o acesso à Internet, uma vez que o WiFi é uma tecnologia omnipresente na sociedade atual. Esta é uma característica fundamental visto que diminui o custo global do sistema. Além disso, estes dipositivos, como o módulo ESP32, oferecem modos de poupança de energia que permitem explorar recursos de gestão de energia definidos pelo standard IEEE 802.11.
As instituições de cuidados de saúde procuram oferecer os melhores serviços em termos de confiabilidade, segurança e conforto aos seus pacientes. Recentemente, tecnologias IoT foram abordadas, desenvolvidas e utilizadas para melhorar o serviço aos pacientes.
O trabalho proposto nesta dissertação é um sistema de monitorização contínua via IoT capaz de monitorizar os sinais vitais de um paciente e apresentá-los aos profissionais de saúde. Para além disso, o sistema pode ser utilizado em diversos cenários desde salas de emergência, uso doméstico até à competição desportiva.
O sistema possui dois componentes principais: um dispositivo wearable com uma antena WiFi e um sistema de monitorização orientado ao profissional de saúde. O wearable é composto por um sensor fotopletismográfico (PPG) MAX30100/MAX30102 para medir o ritmo cardíaco e os níveis de saturação de oxigénio no sangue, um ESP32 com uma antena WiFi incorporada para processar e enviar os dados do sensor para o sistema de monitorização e, finalmente, uma bateria de Lítio Polímero (LiPo) para fornecer energia aos dois componentes mencionados. No que refere ao sistema de monitorização, este é composto por uma base de dados orientada a eventos temporais para armazenar todos os dados necessários, um software de visualização gráfica para a visualização dos sinais vitais do paciente e, por fim, uma Interface Gráfica com o objetivo de ser um painel de controlo para todo o sistema.
Para além disso, o sistema segue a norma oneM2M devido a questões de interoperabilidade relativas à arquitetura, e implementa o modelo de comunicação publisher-subscriber pois este é eficiente em termos de sensorização e monitorização remota.
Por último, o objetivo desta dissertação é desenvolver um sistema de monitorização de baixo custo focado na gestão energética e que ao mesmo tempo não comprometa a sua confiabilidade e robustez.<br>Internet of Things (IoT) systems are experiencing rapid growth due to their applicability in several domains, from smart cities to healthcare among many. Additionally, these devices, such as the ESP32 module, offer sleep modes that allow exploiting the power management features by the IEEE 802.11 standard.
Healthcare institutions always strive to provide the best services concerning the reliability, safety and comfort of the patients. To do so, IoT technologies have been embraced and developed in recent years to improve these services.
The work proposed in this dissertation is an end-to-end continuous monitoring system via IoT capable of monitoring a patient's vital signs and displaying them to the medical personnel. Moreover, the system can be applied to a wide range of application scenarios from emergency wards and home environment to sports training and competition.
The system has two major components, a low-cost and low-power WiFi-enabled wearable device for the user and, at the upper end, a monitoring interface for the medical personnel. The wearable is composed by a MAX30100/MAX30102 PhotoPletysmoGraphy (PPG) sensor to measure the heart rate and oxygen saturation levels, an ESP32 with a built-in WiFi antenna to process and send the sensor data to the monitoring system and, finally, a Lithium Polymer (LiPo) battery to power-up the previous two components. At the upper end, the monitoring interface is composed of a time-series database to store all the data, a graphics visualisation software of patient's vital signs and a Graphic User Interface (GUI) serving as a control panel.
Additionally, the system relies on the oneM2M standard for the interoperability concerning the architecture and follows a publish-subscribe communication model due to its efficiency in sensing and remote monitoring.
Furthermore, the goal of this dissertation is to develop a low-cost and energy-efficient monitoring system while not compromising the reliability and robustness of traditional machines and systems.

IoT has penetrated many industries such as smart cities, smart homes, smart cars, healthcare, agriculture and manufacturing. In the health sector, the number of use cases has increased as a consequence of the improvement in the quality and effectiveness of the provision of hospital and care services. This work presents a solution to reduce the distance between caregivers and patients in a non-intrusive way, allowing information about the health status and mobility of patients to be available and accessible anywhere, anytime. Consecutively, it will increase the confidence of caregivers in relation to the health status of monitored patients and, on the other hand, it will increase the confidence of patients that their health status is being monitored frequently. Thus, this thesis presents a framework for physical monitoring of elderly people based on smartwatch devices. As an integral part of the solution, we present a cross-platform mobile application and a software framework assembled to support the processes of collecting, processing, storing, displaying and analyzing data.<br>A Internet das Coisas (IoT) é uma das tecnologias mais promissoras para o futuro próximo. ITETS can record user motions when doing exercises and process the recorded images into skeleton information. Professionals in different kinds of exercises can also record their standard postures and create training modules, respectively. In order to provide a self-learning environment, an IoT object, called RGB-D Capturer, is proposed. Three sample (standard) postures of volleyball players are introduced to test and evaluate the proposed system. The results show that a beginner can self-learn and improve standard postures by the assistance of the proposed system.

AWS Web Server unit uses Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) to host web static

As the name suggested, the incidence of the syndrome has higher probability of occurrences in fifties or older. However, as working hours becoming longer, the chances of suffering from the insidious onset of diffusing pain are greater, especially for workers who have been sitting in front of computers and using mouse for a long period of times without any exercises. This painful shoulder syndrome associated with working men happens more often than those of average persons.
The paper applies Internet of Things （IoT） methodologies connecting a simple sensor to detect which hand of a person is operating the mouse of a computer and controls the usage time of the mouse. The records of the usage period are captured by an Arduino application and a Raspberry Pi. After the data been collected from the sensor, the data are published into a broker by Message Queueing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) techniques and subscribed by a smart phone via a Wi-Fi wireless module. In addition, the built-in sensor of the smart phone can initiate simple rehabilitation actions automatically. The aggregated data are integrated into a database. Therefore, doctors can retrieve and review the mouse usage time and the rehabilitation records at any moment. Furthermore, according to the data, doctors can give the suggesting immediately to improve the condition of the symptom for the workers.

Along with more cures being found, doctors kept building their medical knowledge by accumulated experience and academic researches. Though there is no 100% guarantee treatment that doctors usually instruct the closest one and proceed necessary adjust after observation until find the right cure.
According to the latest official statistic published that the malignant tumor is the top one national cause of death in Taiwan in 2012 [6]. The record stays over thirty years science 1982. Since chemotherapy is one of the cures of malignant tumor and cancer, the compounding process would be a gray area of patients’ healthcare [7]. Any mistakes in patient identification, drug dosage, drug type or administration may lead to harsh consequences.
A well designed process review mechanism seems in need. A process design of sterile room with assistance of technologies should be on the way for further improvement [8]. The concept of communications between goods and people has been introduced in 1995 as well as data collecting automatically, The Internet of Things (IoT) by Bill Gates [9]. Also the techniques became more mature and now are wildly implemented in our daily life. The related development will be covered in later chapters. However, the link between IoT to sterile environment, in chemotherapy compounding specifically, and how it can help for the process improvement will be the main stream of this research.

Most of the traditional embedded devices are updated by wired way and the main purpose of the firmware update is to fix bugs in system or to add new functions in applications. Obviously, this approach is not feasible for the IoT environment because there will have billions of IoT devices in the future to be updated simultaneously.
In addition, the current update resources of devices cannot be used to update by those devices made by different manufacturers since major brands of equipment companies use their own private machine to machine protocol. Therefore, in order to use the resources they need to build extra interface to transform update resources, it will also cause an additional burden for updating IoT devices, and thus it is not conducive to build IoT ecosystem.
The contributions of this thesis are as follows:
(1) Implement low-cost IoT devices OTA (over the air) update system.
(2) Use international standards, CoAP protocol, to control device update.
(3) Define remote update resources that meet IPSO standard.
(4) Build a software and firmware OTA update system for NodeMCU low-cost IoT platform.
(5) Use TLS security mechanism to protect IoT devices in update processes.
(6) Implement IoT update cloud by MQTT.
We exploit NodeMCU IoT platforms to implement IoT devices update, and our system can be applied in public facilities of smart building, central air conditioning, access control system, fire alarm system and monitoring system.

The main purpose is security and monitoring home environment. Most of smart living products are pure sensing technology but not the thing we familiar with at home. In user point of view, platform structure means that users have to buy whole platform even they only need one single sensor. Furthermore, smart living products from different companies use their own communication protocol and profile. It is difficult for users to integrate smart living products from two or more companies. Therefore, the existing smart living products in platforms are not highly acceptable for customers.
This research presents a smart living IoT system structure. This structure is consist of four parts, hardware, IoT processor, cloud server and smart device App, by the concept of “Body – Cerebellar - Brain”. Modularizing each program and sharing the same structure can reduce the development cost and time. In this structure, all of sensors and actuators are designed into houseware or a thing we familiar with at home. MQTT is the main internet protocol which provides the possibility for M2M communication. Because of the REST feature in MQTT, this structure is able to create the API. Therefore, products using this structure can easily cooperate with products from other companies.

The observation and treatment of animals in veterinary hospitals is still very dependent on manual procedures, including the collection of vital signs (temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure). These manual procedures are time-consuming and invasive, affecting the animal’s well-being.
In this work, we purpose the use of IoT technologies to monitor animals in hospitalization, wearing sensors to collect vitals, and low-cost hardware to forward them into a cloud backend that analyses and stores data. The history of observed vitals and alarms can be accessed in the web, included in the Pet Universal software suite.
The overall architecture follows a stream processing approach, using telemetry protocols to transport data, and Apache Kafka Streams to analyse streams and trigger alarms on potential hazard conditions.
The system was fully implemented, although with laboratory sensors to emulate the smart devices to be worn by the animals. We were able to implement a data gathering and processing pipeline and integrate with the existing clinical management information system.
The proposed solution can offer a practical way for long-term monitoring and detect abnormal values of temperature and heart rate in hospitalized animals, taking into consideration the characteristics of the monitored individual (species and state).<br>A observação e tratamento de animais hospitalizados continua muito dependente de procedimentos manuais, especialmente no que diz respeito à colheita de sinais vitais (temperatura, frequência cardíaca, frequência respiratória e pressão arterial). Estes procedimentos manuais são dispendiosos em termos de tempo e afetam o bem-estar do animal.
Neste projeto, propomos o recurso a tecnologias IoT para monitorizar animais hospitalizados equipados com sensores que medem sinais vitais, com hardware acessível, e envio dos dados para um serviço na cloud que os analisa e armazena. O histórico dos valores e alarmes podem ser acedidos na web e incluídos na plataforma comercial da Pet Universal.
A arquitetura geral segue uma abordagem de processamento funcional, usando protocolos de telemetria para transportar dados e Apache Kafka Streams, analisando e lançando alarmes sobre potenciais condições de risco de acordo com a temperatura e pulsação.
O sistema foi totalmente implementado, embora com sensores de laboratório para simular os dispositivos a serem usados pelos animais. Conseguimos implementar um circuito de colheita e processamento de dados e integrar com o sistema de gestão clínica já existente.
A solução proposta oferece uma forma prática de monitorização continuada e de deteção de valores anormais de temperatura e frequência cardíaca em animais hospitalizados, tomando em conta as características do indivíduo monitorado (espécie e estado).<br>Mestrado em Engenharia Informática

Although the above-mentioned standard operating procedures, regulations, guidelines and relevant information systems can meet their related management needs, but the current SOP has gradually become inconsistent with the actual operation and continue to face emerging threats.
In this study, through the integration systems, a set of exclusive "intelligent security system" is built so that the camp commander and relative Management units will not be submerged in a large number of false alarms, and can automatically identify high-risk anomalous behavior, effective use of early warning effect. In addition, the system can automatically determine the extent of possible threats and their extents so that the camp commander and management units can quickly control the movements of personnel, and make early detection of abnormal staffs or damage behavior within the camp. It also can do a quick analysis of the cause of security incidents, effective control the degree of damage or extent of damage, strengthen the overall camp security degree.

Through the concept of Internet of Things (IoT), We can integrate the Internet with people and their home environments to realize smart home networking systems that bring us more intelligent and user-friendly home service quality. Doing so also provides us a more convenient, healthier way to live.
In this thesis, we use two Raspberry Pi 3 Model B platforms and the Linux operating system to develop the main cores of our system. Particularly, one core serves as a Smart Home Lock that allows the Raspberry Pi 3 to control and transmit data with sensors directly via its GPIO, WiFi, and Bluetooth interfaces. Moreover, the other serves as the server-side Smart Home Server that can communicate with sensors for capturing home environment data so as to achieve automatic control on home appliances. In this way, we can significantly reduce manual operations from the users and make the smart home environment more humane and comfortable.

In order to prevent such incidents, some products have been properly protected. With the rapid development of the technology of the Internet of Things (IoT), this paper studies the face recognition technology and applies it to the IoT smart car. The smart car combined with face recognition gives the corresponding action through the result of the recognition. If the identification is successful, the user can activate the smart car. If it is not successful, the smart car can notify the owner through the connection of the IoT. This application can increase the safety of the car and increase the convenience of IoT-related applications. If one forgets to bring a key, he can still use the applications because the face is the key.
This paper constructed an application that combines the face recognition technology with a car based on the Raspberry Pi and Raspberry Pi Camera. The process first installs the operating system on the Raspberry Pi and builds a face recognition system by the tools of Python and OpenCV. It can detect the face through the Raspberry Pi lens and captures the features of the face to build a model through the features. For recognition, the Raspberry Pi detects the user’s face, and compares it with the trained model. If the recognition result matches with the existing model, it will successfully log in to the smart car and applications.

It plays a very important role in life management, environmental monitoring, car networking, home security and smart cities. The Internet of Things uses various things through the Internet. Linked to make it easier for people to access information and use more convenient services, and the information security of the Internet of Things is also closely followed. If the IoT system is attacked by information security, the attacker can not only peep into the user's habits. , location, personal data and images, and even the transmission of fake data may make the system make a wrong decision.
Therefore, an information security detection platform for the Internet of Things service system will be developed. The detection platform is presented by the web interface, providing easy operation for non- information related background users and easy to interpret. The detection content is divided into three parts. First, the first part is on the Internet of Things service system. The IoT service system enables service scanning, which allows users to know whether the service system has additional information to open the communication and cause potential risks. The collected data can also provide the second part of analyzing SSL (Transport Layer Security Agreement Transport Layer) Security) credentials. The purpose of analyzing the SSL certificate is to check whether the IoT service system provides SSL encryption for verification. SSL is also called secure communication protocol. The network packet transmission can be encrypted through SSL, so that the transmitted content cannot be obtained even if it is intercepted. SSL encryption, the user's personal information, account number, password and credit card information will be easily intercepted during the transmission process. The third part is to do a weak point scan on the IoT service system, and provide information to the user service system about potential risks and repair methods.
