Abstract:
Abstract Abstract 1040 Background: Iron(III) polymaltose complex (IPC) shows similar efficacy to ferrous sulfate for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia but with superior tolerability. The stable structure of IPC prevents unregulated uptake of iron from the gut, avoiding an increase in non-transferrin bound iron with associated oxidative stress. IPC similars have been developed which vary in structure from the originator IPC preparation (Maltofer®, IPCM). A direct comparison between the originator and IPC similars in their potential to induce oxidative stress has not been performed. In this study, we compared acute and early toxicity in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and liver in healthy rats randomized to IPCM, an IPC similar (Vitalix, IPCV) or a control arm. Methods: LD50 values were determined by administering single increasing doses of IPCM or IPCV (each n=12) and counting deaths at 24 hours. Three groups of rats (each n=12) then received doses equivalent to 10% of LD50 for IPCM (280 mg iron/kg/day) or IPCV (280 mg iron/kg/day), or tap water (controls) for 28 days. Iron-induced lesions in the GI tract were scored: 1, superficial 1–5 hemorrhagic points; 2, superficial 6–10, hemorrhagic points; 3, sub-mucosal hemorrhagic lesions with small erosions; 4, severe hemorrhagic lesions and some invasive lesions. Iron deposits (Prussian blue) and tissue ferritin in the liver and small intestine were assessed by immunohistochemistry. Ferritin immunostaining in the small intestine was scored: 1, none; 2, mild; 3, moderate; 4, very intense. Results: LD50 was the same for IPCM and IPCV (>2800 mg iron/kg). Animals treated with IPCV had lower food consumption and body weight vs those treated with IPCM and controls. IPCV was associated with increased serum iron and transferrin saturation vs the IPCM group, suggesting bypass of the regulated iron uptake system. Microscopically, the villi/crypt ratio and the number of Goblet cells per villi in the small intestine were significantly lower with IPCV vs IPCM or controls, and the number of eosinophils per villi was increased in IPCV-treated animals. Gross anatomy and microscopy findings showed that IPCV- treated animals experienced variable degrees of inflammation in the GI tract while the IPCM and control groups showed no lesions. Ferritin immunostaining of liver tissue indicated that iron was appropriately stored in IPCM-treated within Kupffer's cells (Prussian blue). Ferritin deposits in the small intestine were also higher with IPCM. Differences were statistically inferior for IPCV versus IPCM for clinical and iron parameters, gross anatomy, microscopic findings and ferritin immunostaining (Table). Conclusions: IPCV showed the same LD50 as IPCM, but considerably greater early GI tract toxicity. Increased numbers of eosinophils in the IPCV group suggest an allergic component of the small intestine injury in these groups. Markers of iron transport and distribution indicated less well controlled uptake and storage following ingestion of IPCV compared to IPCM. The increased levels of ferritin deposits in the small intestine of IPCM-treated animals suggests that excess iron is stored in the gut wall instead of saturating the iron transport mechanism and increasing non-transferrin bound iron levels. Abstract:
cDNA copies of the coat protein (CP) gene of Indian peanut clump virus (IPCV)-H were introduced into cells of Nicotiana benthamiana or Escherichia coli by transformation with vectors based on pROKII or pET respectively. In both plant and bacterial cells, IPCV CP was expressed and assembled to form virus-like particles (VLP). In plant extracts, the smallest preponderant particle length was about 50 nm. Other abundant lengths were about 85 and about 120 nm. The commonest VLP length in bacterial extracts was about 30 nm. Many of the longer VLP appeared to comprise aggregates of shorter particles. The lengths of the supposed ‘monomer’ VLP corresponded approximately to those expected for encapsidated CP gene transcript RNA. Immunocapture RT–PCR, using primers designed to amplify the CP gene, confirmed that the VLP contained RNA encoding IPCV-H CP. The results show that encapsidation does not require the presence of the 5′-terminal untranslated sequence of the virus RNA and suggest that if there is an ‘origin of assembly’ motif or sequence, it lies within the CP gene. When transgenic plants expressing IPCV-H CP were inoculated with IPCV-L, a strain that is serologically distinct from IPCV-H, the virus particles that accumulated contained both types of CP.

Abstract:
Abstract BACKGROUND Adding intensive-procarbazine, lomustine, and vincristine (iPCV) to radiotherapy (RT) prolonged progression-free (PFS) and overall survival (OS) for patients with 1p19q codeleted anaplastic oligodendroglial tumors (AOTs); some benefit was also observed for IDH-mutant non-codeleted cases (Cairncross et al 2013, 2014, 2016). Now, 25 years after study activation, we updated survival, further assessed IDH as a predictive biomarker, and are exploring the benefit from vincristine. METHODS Eligible adults (KPS ≥ 60, adequate end-organ function) were randomized to pre-RT iPCV (4 cycles x 6 weeks each) vs. RT alone, stratified by age (< or ≥ 50), KPS (60–70 or ≥ 80), and level of anaplasia. Histology (anaplastic oligodendroglioma/oligo-astrocytoma required) and biomarkers (IDH and 1p19q, post-hoc) were determined centrally. Survival was estimated by Kaplan-Meier and Hazard Ratios (HRs) by Cox-regression. RESULTS Overall (n=289), median follow-up was 16.4 years vs. 11.3 years at last report. In codeleted cases, 40% randomized to iPCV remained alive vs. 53% at last report; 5, 10, and 14 year-PFS and -OS rates were 62%, 50%, 41% and 70%, 57%, 46%, respectively; and iPCV unequivocally prolonged PFS (median 9.8 vs. 2.9 years, HR 0.46, 95% CI 0.3–0.7, p< 0.001) and OS (median 13.2 vs. 7.3 years, HR 0.61, 95% CI 0.40–0.94; p=0.02). With IDH mutation but without codeletion (n=66), iPCV prolonged PFS (median 2.8 vs. 1.9 years, HR 0.58, 95% CI 0.34–0.99, p=0.046); OS was longer with a trend for significance (median 5.5 vs. 3.3 years, HR 0.6, 95% CI 0.34–1.03, p=0.06) on this underpowered exploratory post-hoc analysis. CONCLUSION For codeleted AOTs, long-term analyses confirmed that pre-RT iPCV produced meaningful and significant prolongations of PFS and OS. With IDH mutation but without codeletion, iPCV significantly prolonged PFS and showed a trend for prolonged OS. The value of vincristine is being assessed. Abstract:
The inverse problem of the calculus of variations (IPCV) is solved for a second-order ordinary differential equation with the use of a local bilinear form. We apply methods of analytical dynamics, nonlinear functional analysis, and modern methods for solving the IPCV. In the paper, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for a given operator to be potential relative to a local bilinear form, construct the corresponding functional, i.e., found a solution to the IPCV, and define the structure of the considered equation with the potential operator. As a consequence, similar results are obtained when using a nonlocal bilinear form. Theoretical results are illustrated with some examples.

Abstract:
An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) procedure was developed to test peanut seed for Indian peanut clump virus (IPCV). A double antibody sandwich form of ELISA detected the Hyderabad isolate (IPCV-H) in seed of peanut. Correlation was established between the results from ELISA performed on cotyledons of peanut seed and grow-out tests. Seed transmission in the field-infected peanut plants ranged from 3.5 to 17%, depending on the genotype. The transmission frequency was 48 to 55% in seed collected from plants infected through seed. Because testae of all seed contained viral antigen, their removal was essential for the determination of frequency of seed transmission. Apparently the virus present only in cotyledons and embryo contributed to the seed transmission. For the first time, IPCV-H was shown to be seed transmitted in finger millet (Eleusine coracana), foxtail millet (Setaria italica), and pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum) at frequencies of 5.2, 9.7, and 0.9%, respectively. Seed transmission was not observed in sorghum (Sorghum bicolor). Significance of seed transmission in millet crops is discussed.

Abstract:
Background. Idiopathic polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (IPCV) is uncommon condition. It is considered to be a variant of neovascular age-related macular degeneration, but it can be also found in younger patients. Case report. We presented a case of otherwise healthy, 36-year-old women, with sudden unilateral visual impairment in the left eye and metamorphosia. Slit lamp biomicroscopy examination of the eye anterior segment was normal. Intraocular pressure determined by aplanation tonometry was 16 mmHg in both eyes. Indirect slit lamp biomicroscopy examination showed signs of serosanquinous detachments of the retinal pigment epithelium. Fluorescein angiography showed a subretinal vessel network through the pigment epithelial atrophy with hyperfluorescence in superior part of serohemorrhagic pigment epithelial detachment and the inferior hypofluorescence, caused by hemorrhage. Optical coherence tomography proved detachment of the retinal pigment epithelium. Conclusion. In patients with IPCV a mild, natural course with spontaneous resorption of exudations and hemorrhage and improvement in visual acuity can be observed. There is no approved treatment at present.

Abstract:
Groundnut or peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is an important legume cultivated in several developing countries in the tropics and subtropics. It plays a significant role as a food crop in regions with alarming population growth rates. The disease “peanut clump”, which is caused by viruses in the genus Pecluvirus, has been reported from India and from several countries of West Africa. In India, the causal agent is the Indian peanut clump virus (IPCV), which is transmitted by a soil-borne root parasite, Polymyxa graminis. The virus is also transmitted by infected seed and so far no economical method of control has been found. Therefore efforts have been concentrated on understanding the epidemiology of peanut clump disease with the aim of devising cultural methods of control. The work addressed in this thesis describes how investigation in various aspects of clump disease epidemiology, including identification of alternative hosts of the virus and the vector, and of factors that contribute to survival and spread of inoculum, has led to formulation of simple cultural practices that could reduce disease incidence.

Abstract:
The distribution of television is currently dominated by three technologies: over-the-air broadcast, cable, and satellite. The advent of IP networks and the increased availability of broadband access created a new vehicle for the distribution of TV services. The distribution of digital TV services over IP networks, or IPTV, offers carriers flexibility and added value in the form of additional services. It causes therefore no surprise the rapid roll-out of IPTV services by operators worldwide in the past few years. IPTV distribution imposes stringent requirements on both performance and reliability. It is therefore challenging for an IPTV operator to guarantee the quality of experience expected by its users, and doing so in an efficient manner. In this dissertation I investigate some of the challenges faced by IPTV distribution network operators, and I propose novel techniques to address these challenges. First, I address one of the major concerns of IPTV network deployment: channel change delay. This is the latency experienced by users when switching between TV channels. Synchronisation and buffering of video streams can cause channel change delays of several seconds. I perform an empirical analysis of a particular solution to the channel change delay problem, namely, predictive pre-joining of TV channels. In this scheme each Set Top Box simultaneously joins additional multicast groups (TV channels) along with the one requested by the user. If the user switches to any of these channels next, switching latency is virtually eliminated, and user experience is improved. The results show that it is possible to eliminate zapping delay for a significant percentage of channel switching requests with little impact in access network bandwidth cost. Second, I propose a technique to increase the resource and energy efficiency of IPTV networks. This technique is based on a simple paradigm: avoiding waste. To reduce the inefficiencies of current static multicast distribution schemes, I propose a semi-dynamic scheme where only a selection of TV multicast groups is distributed in the network, instead of all. I perform an empirical evaluation of this method and conclude that its use results in significant bandwidth reductions without compromising service performance. I also demonstrate that these reductions may translate into significant energy savings in the future. Third, to increase energy efficiency further I propose a novel energy and resource friendly protocol for core optical IPTV networks. The idea is for popular IPTV traffic to optically bypass the network nodes, avoiding electronic processing. I evaluate this proposal empirically and conclude that the introduction of optical switching techniques results in a significant increase in the energy efficiency of IPTV networks. All the schemes I present in this dissertation are evaluated by means of trace-driven analyses using a dataset from an operational IPTV service provider. Such thorough and realistic evaluation enables the assessment of the proposed techniques with an increased level of confidence, and is therefore a strength of this dissertation.

Abstract:
This thesis explores how to use gamification for an IPTV platform to increase user engagement. Gamification has been defined as the use of game elements in non-game contexts. This thesis describes the fundamental concepts about gamification and taps on the practical use of these concepts for media and TV consumption. Based on interviews and an online survey we developed and evaluated low-fi prototypes to study some key aspects of Gamification for IPTV solutions. 19 people, not real users, participated in the final evaluation of the last designed low-fi prototype providing qualitative results through an evaluation survey. The result of this case study is a set of game techniques that could be valid for a platform like Ericsson Multiscreen TV, which is the base platform in this thesis. None precedent studies have been found in the research community on the use of gamification on an IPTV platform.

Abstract:
ITC/USA 2012 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Eighth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 22-25, 2012 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California<br>The execution of experimental Flight Test Campaign (FTC) provides all information required for the aircraft development, operation and certification. Typically the execution of a FTC encompasses three major systems as follows: Flight Test Instrumentation System (FTI) that is basically a measurement system; Real-Time Telemetry Link (RTL); and Ground Telemetry System (GTS). At the early days, for the development of small aircrafts (i.e. Fighter), the primary source for FTI data was provided by the RTL due to inherent limitations of the open reel airborne data recorders (i.e. media and size), operating under high-dynamics condition. Nowadays with the introduction of solid-state data recording devices, data integrity and reliability is no longer an issue. At the ITC 2010 Blue Ribbon Panel, Mr. Thomas Beard, the executive Director of the Air Force Flight Test Center in Edwards Air Force Base emphasized the need to reduce refly and to improve FTC efficiency. Such statement imposes a new paradigm in Telemetry, which is to improve RTL integrity and reliability level equivalent to the solid-state data recording devices. Therefore the Telemetry community will be able to execute test point validation for refly reduction and quasi realtime data reduction analysis for efficiency improvement. The major solutions that address such issue are Spatial Diversity (SD) architectures and the iNet. The SD solution requires multiple antenna system (which is very expensive) that could still produce ineffective results at high-dynamics test points (e.g. Spin). At the beginning the iNet consortium proposed the usage of TCP protocol for data transmission. Problems associated with TCP limitations such as data latency and overhead lead to the usage of UDP protocol that does not guarantee the packet delivery. To properly address these issues the IPEV R&D group proposes the iPCM Telemetry architecture to be used as RTL. The iPCM uses hybrid architecture for data transmission taking the advantage of legacy digital transmitters combined with iNet-based transceivers to retrieve missing data. The development and the evaluation of iPCM architecture will be executed as a PhD Thesis in ITA University. The expected performance and benefits of iPCM are presented and discussed.

Abstract:
This master’s thesis project concerns implementing and evaluating Web 2.0 services for IPTV. This thesis project was carried out at Accedo Broadband during the period August to December 2008. Accedo Broadband is a provider of interactive applications and on-demand content for IPTV. The report will analyze, specify, create, and evaluate a solution for adding Web 2.0 functionality from the most popular sites as IPTV content. We will evaluate several different web services APIs and examine how suitable they are for implementation in the context of IPTV. An IPTV set-top box has limited CPU processing power, memory capacity, screen resolution is generally limited to 720 by 576 pixels, and only a limited set of input devices and interfaces are available. The IPTV set-top box receives digitally encoded audio and video content through IP and renders this content so it is viewable on an analogue TV and the audio is output via speakers. The goal of this project is to reduce the amount of integration work and configuration necessary for creating Web 2.0 IPTV applications by creating a general framework for Web 2.0 applications. We will present and evaluate the most common web programming technologies and see which are most suitable for our purposes. We have developed four different interactive demonstration services to illustrate the usage of an IPTV platform.<br>Denna rapport är ett examensarbete beträffande implementering och evaluering av Webb 2.0 tjänster för IPTV.

The adaptation of those networks to transport data trafic has some ineficiencies, which results, that the operator`s revenues do not follow the bandwidth provided to customers. This fact has become a growing problem with the development of services such as IPTV, a service which requires high bandwidth, high transmission rate variation and point-multipoint connections. The Ethernet appears as a starting point (and ending as well, since more than 95 % of the data tra c is generated or is destinated to an Ethernet port [1]) for new aggregation network's technologies, called Carrier Ethernet technologies. This paper, presents a study of the Ethernet technology, requirements for Carrier Ethernet technologies and the promising MPLS-TP, still in the standardization process. In order to optimize IPTV service distribution, there is proposed a scenario, where it was verified that the combined use of unicast and multicast transmission can result in an eficient use of network resources.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract A unique containment and confinement system is under development to conduct small explosively driven physics experiments containing hazardous materials at the Proton Radiography facility at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). In these experiments, the detonation of high explosives (HE) is used to drive materials to extreme loading conditions, where some of the materials tested can be extremely hazardous (e.g. nuclear materials). The main components of the system are the Inner Pressure Confinement Vessel (IPCV, which hosts the physics experiment), the Outer Pressure Containment Vessel (OPCV) and Beam Pipes and Auxiliary Hardware (BPAH). This paper describes the design and preliminary analyses of the IPCV. The body of the IPCV, also referred to as the Inner Vessel, is being designed to the criteria of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Division 3, Code Case 2564, with the exception of the materials of construction. The closure covers have different devices mounted on them, such as feedthrough devices for sending or receiving electrical and optical signals across the pressure boundary, and valves for venting the vessel interior. The unique feature in the vessel design are the radiographic windows, tentatively made of Beryllium, which need to be strong enough to maintain the pressure boundary during dynamic events, while being radiographically low-attenuating for the purpose of proton imaging.

Abstract:
Abstract A containment system is being developed to expand the capability of proton radiography of small-scale shock physics experiments at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The detonation of high explosives (HE) drives materials to extreme loading conditions, which are imaged using a proton beam and an imaging system. A qualified confinement and containment boundary needs to exist between a high-explosive experiment and the environment, and is comprised of the Inner Pressure Confinement Vessel (IPCV) and the Outer Pressure Containment Vessel (OPCV). The Inner Vessel is designed to the criteria of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Division 3, Code Case 2564. The vessel contains an Experimental Physics Package, fragment mitigation structure, and radiographic windows. The windows need to minimize radiographic blur contribution (thin, radiographically transparent material such as Beryllium) over the field of view for imaging, but also need to maintain the pressure boundary during and after the dynamic event. Further, the vessel covers need to seal before, during, and after the experiment . In addition, the covers have miscellaneous feedthroughs, to enable high-voltage signal (for HE detonator), instrumentation and control signals (e.g. valves, pressure and vacuum gauge, optical fibers). We present the preliminary design, analyses, and testing of the Inner Vessel components.

Abstract:
Abstract A containment and confinement pressure vessel system is under development to expand the capability to perform small explosively driven physics experiments at the Proton Radiography facility at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). Two barriers of this vessel system are the Inner Pressure Confinement Vessel (IPCV) and the Outer Pressure Containment Vessel (OPCV). To achieve high spatial resolution of proton images, radiographic windows (covers) of the Inner Vessel are located extremely close to the experiment containing high explosive (HE). While the Inner Vessel is designed to meet the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Division 3, Code Case 2564 criteria, the small separation between the explosive and the pressure-retaining boundary presents a unique requirement for designing dynamically loaded vessels. We present numerical simulations of HE detonation in the Inner Vessel for several HE configurations. Eularian hydrodynamic code is used to calculate pressure-time history on the inner vessel surface. The pressure-time loading is then imported into a Langrangian structural model, and high-fidelity structural dynamic simulations are performed to obtain stress and strain as functions of time. Simulations are compared against experimental measurements from dynamic testing. Dynamic experiments are conducted in a low-fidelity (LoFi) vessel prototype, to measure the pressure and strain in regions of interest in different vessel locations (body, radiographic windows, covers).
