A tecnologia Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) é um fator impactante na sociedade. Ela tem sido explorada por diferentes meios de transmissão para a entrega de conteúdo multimídia sobre serviço baseado em Internet Protocol (IP). Atualmente, o IPTV é alvo de várias pesquisas, pois pode trazer muitos benefícios para a sociedade, tais como o suporte à interatividade e o aumento da interoperabilidade com redes domésticas. Este trabalho apresenta o desenvolvimento e a implementação de um modelo computacional, baseado na aplicação de metaheurísticas, sobre uma plataforma IPTV, com o objetivo de desenvolver um algoritmo híbrido utilizando as metaheurísticas Busca Tabu (BT) e Algoritmo Genético (AG). Esse algoritmo permite que seja feita a análise e o estudo dos seguinte parâmetros: taxa de transmissão, qualidade de áudio, número de clientes e largura de banda, visando encontrar a melhor configuração dos mesmos para a transmissão IPTV dadas às características do cliente. Após a validação do algoritmo, foram realizados experimentos que auxiliaram a compreensão da dinâmica do sistema e viabilizaram encontrar uma boa solução, passível de simulação no simulador de rede Network Simulator 3 (NS3).
The Internet Protocol Television Technology (IPTV) is an impacting factor on society. It has been exploited by different means of transmission to the delivery of multimedia content over service based on Internet Protocol (IP). Currently, IPTV is the subject of several studies, since it can bring many benefits to society, such as interactivity support and increased interoperability with home networks. This paper presents the development and implementation of a computational model based on the application of metaheuristics on an IPTV platform in order to develop a hybrid algorithm using the metaheuristics Tabu Search (TS) and Genetic Algorithm (GA). This algorithm makes it possible to analysis and study of the following parameters: baud rate, audio quality, number of customers and network bandwidth in order to find the best setting for the IPTV transmission given the client characteristics. After validating the algorithm, experiments are performed to help understand the dynamics of the system and enable a good solution that can be simulated in the Network Simulator 3 (NS3).

Abstract:
Search and retrieval of multimedia content from open platforms such as the Internet and IPTV platforms has long been found to be hugely inefficient. It has been noted that a major cause of such inefficient results is the improper labeling or incomplete description of multimedia content by its creators. The lack of adequate description of video content by the proper annotation of video content with the relevant metadata leads to poor search and retrieval yields. The creation of such metadata itself is a major problem as there are various metadata description standards which users could employ. On the other hand there are tools such as FFprobe that can retrieve important features of video that can be used in searching and retrieval. The combination of such tools and metadata description standards could be the solution to the metadata problem. The Multimedia Content Description Interface (MPEG-7) is an example of a metadata description standard. It has been adopted by TISPAN for the description of IPTV multimedia content. The MPEG-7 standard is rather complex, seeing as it has over 1200 global Descriptors and Description Schemes which a user would have to know in order to implement such technology. This complexity is a nuisance when we consider the existence of multitudes of amateur video producers. These multimedia content creators have no idea how to use the MPEG-7 standard to annotate their creations with metadata. Consequently, overloading of the IPTV platform with content that has not been annotated in a standardized manner occurs, making search and retrieval of the multimedia content (videos, in this instance) inefficient. Therefore, it was imperative to try and determine whether the use of the MPEG-7 standard could be made much easier by creating a tool that is MPEG-7 enabled which will allow for the annotation of video content by any user without concerning themselves about how to use the MPEG-7 standard. In attempting to develop a tool for metadata generation, it was incumbent for us to understand the issues associated with metadata generation for users wishing to create IPTV services. An extensive literature review on IPTV standardization was carried out to determine the issues associated with metadata generation for IPTV and their proposed solutions. An experimental research approach was taken in an attempt to figure out if our proposed solution to the lack of technical expertise by users about the MPEG-7 standard could be the final solution to the metadata generation problem. We developed a Multimedia Content Description and Management System (MCDMS) prototype which enabled us to describe video content by annotating it with 16 different metadata elements and storing the descriptions in XML MPEG-7 format. Incremental development and re-use oriented development were used during the development phase of this research. The MCDMS underwent functional testing; smoke testing of the individual system components and Big Bang integration testing for the combined components. Our results indicate that the more metadata is appended to a video as description the better it is to search for and retrieve. The MCDMS hides the complexity of MPEG-7 metadata creation from the users. With the effortless creation of MPEG-7 based metadata, it becomes easier to annotate videos. Consequently, search and retrieval of video content becomes more efficient. It is important to note that the description of multimedia content remains a complex feat. Even with the metadata elements laid out for users, there still exist other issues that affect metadata creation such as polysemy and the semantic gap. However, the provision of a tool that does the MPEG-7 standardizing behind the scenes for users when they upload a video makes the description of multimedia content in a standardized manner a much easier feat to achieve.

Abstract:
Cette thèse concerne l'investigation détaillée du problème du temps de zapping dans les réseaux d'opérateurs offrant un service IPTY basé sur la technologie multicast. Cette investigation a conduit à plusieurs contributions qui permettent de substantiellement améliorer le temps de zapping dans ce type de réseau. Notre première contribution concerne la partie purement réseau. Nous avons proposé d'optimiser le processus de changement de chaîne et ceci pour chaque version du protocole IGMP. Cette optimisation réduit la latence due au réseau sans pour autant augmenter la consommation de bande passante d'une manière significative. Nous avons modélisé le service IPTV Multicast pour estimer les pics de consommation de la bande passante pour permettre à l'opérateur de dimensionner son réseau. La deuxième contribution concerne la partie traitement du flux IPTV par le récepteur. Dans cette partie, nous avons proposé d'associer au flux principal un flux secondaire, version retardée du principal. La construction du flux secondaire se fait en donnant une priorité élevée aux paquets transportant des éléments d'une I-Frame par rapport à d'autres types d'éléments (P­ Frame, B-Frame, Voix et Data). Cette nouvelle règle de construction permet de réduire le délai d'attente de la première I­Frame nécessaire pour commencer la phase de décodage tout en réduisant le temps de remplissage du buffer. Dans un environnement réel, nous avons évalué cette contribution et constaté une réduction remarquable du temps de zapping
This thesis involves a detailed investigation of the problem of IPTV zapping time in networks of operators providing IPTV service based on multicast technology. This investigation led to some contributions that can substantially improve the channel change time in this type of network.Our first contribution concerns the pure network. We proposed an optimization of the channels changing process for each version of the IGMP protocol. This optimization reduces network latency without significantly increasing the bandwidth consumption. We proposed also a model of multicast IPTV service that we used to estimate the maximum bandwidth demand. This model enables the operator to size the bandwidth availability in its network.The second contribution relates to the processing part of stream IPTV on the receiver. In this section, we proposed to combine the main flow to a secondary flow, delayed version of the main stream. The construction of the secondary stream is clone by giving high priority to packets carrying elements of an I-frame compared to other types of elements (P-Frame, B­-Frame, Voice and Data). This rule of construction can reduce the First I-Frame Delay required to start the decoding phase and at the same time reduce the Buffering Delay. In a real environment, we evaluated this contribution and measured a remarkable decline of the zapping time with our proposal

Efforts to accelerate the deployment of IPTV centralized model which is combined of VHO, encoders, controller, access network and Home network. Regardless of whether the network is delivering live TV, VOD, or Time-shift TV, all content and network traffic resulting from subscriber requests must traverse the entire network from the super-headend all the way to each subscriber's Set-Top Box (STB).IPTV services require very stringent QoS guarantees When IPTV traffic shares the network resources with other traffic like data and voice, how to ensure their QoS and efficiently utilize the network resources is a key and challenging issue. For QoS measured in the network-centric terms of delay jitter, packet losses and bounds on delay. The main focus of this thesis is on the optimized bandwidth allocation and smooth datatransmission. The proposed traffic model for smooth delivering video service IPTV network with its QoS performance evaluation. According to Maglaris et al [5] First, analyze the coding bit rate of a single video source. Various statistical quantities are derived from bit rate data collected with a conditional replenishment inter frame coding scheme. Two correlated Markov process models (one in discrete time and one incontinuous time) are shown to fit the experimental data and are used to model the input rates of several independent sources into a statistical multiplexer. Preventive control mechanism which is to be include CAC, traffic policing used for traffic control.QoS has been evaluated of common bandwidth scheduler( FIFO) by use fluid models with Markovian queuing method and analysis the result by using simulator andanalytically, Which is measured the performance of the packet loss, overflow and mean waiting time among the network users.

Abstract:
Microsoft Mediaroom Internet Protocol TeleVision (MS IPTV), one of the platforms for digital TV, took television to an all new dimension level. MS IPTV is described as a system where a digital television service is delivered to consumers using the Internet Protocol over a broadband connection. Since the infrastructure started to gain complexity and exposure to a number of new risks, never envisaged situations related to television security started to appear. For this reason, MS IPTV security is not only a great asset, but also a necessity. Nowadays it is mandatory to sharpen the wit to get ahead of attackers, who are always waiting for a breach to compromise our systems. MS IPTV log servers collect information about user and system behavior. However, this information only becomes relevant if it can be queried and analyzed with the purpose of providing high-level understanding about the different patterns. This task must comprise powerful data parsing techniques, since MS IPTV is able to generate close to one terabyte of logs per day. This thesis presents an approach that combines data parsing techniques in order to analyze relevant MS IPTV logs, with the main objective to increase security through the investigation of what type of additional information can be extracted from the server log files of a MS IPTV platform. The thesis focus is on diagnosis, trying to understand if it is possible to determine what type of attacks are being perpetrated against the MS IPTV infrastructure. We propose an approach for discovering attacks, where the application logs are scanned to identify coherent groups of occurrences that we call patterns, which are likely to constitute attacks. Our results showed that our approach achieves good results in discovering potential attacks. Our output results can be integrated into the MS IPTV monitoring system tool SCOM (System Center Operations Manager), which is an additional advantage over the other monitoring and log management systems.

Το αντικείμενο της παρούσας διπλωματικής εργασίας είναι η μελέτη της ψηφιακής τηλεόρασης μέσω πρωτόκολλου Internet, γνωστής και ως IPTV (Internet Protocol TeleVision) με ιδιαίτερη εστίαση στον αποκωδικοποιητή που χρησιμοποιείται για την επίτευξη της τηλεοπτικής μετάδοσης. Αυτός ο αποκωδικοποιητής ονομάζεται Set-Top Box. Στην ουσία το IPTV είναι η μετάδοση τηλεοπτικού σήματος μέσω ευρυζωνικής σύνδεσης που χρησιμοποιεί το πρωτόκολλο IP μέσω ενός ιδιωτικού κλειστού δικτύου και όχι του δημοσίου Internet. Το IPTV θεωρείται το παρόν και το μέλλον όσον αφορά τα είδη τηλεόρασης καθώς ο χρήστης έχει την δυνατότητα για πρόσβαση σε τηλεοπτικά κανάλια με ψηφιακή εικόνα ενώ η δυνατότητα που παρέχουν οι on-demand υπηρεσίες για παρακολούθηση τηλεοπτικού περιεχομένου παντός τύπου την ώρα που επιθυμεί ο χρήστης καθιστά το «πακέτο» πολύ πιο ελκυστικό. Συγκεκριμένα, σε αυτή την διπλωματική εργασία, παρουσιάζεται αρχικά ο ορισμός της δικτυακής τηλεόρασης και γενικά όλων αυτών που συνέβαλλαν στην δημιουργία του IPTV. Κατόπιν γίνεται μια συνοπτική ιστορική αναδρομή στα γεγονότα που οδήγησαν στην μορφή του IPTV όπως την ξέρουμε σήμερα. Έπειτα συγκρίνεται το IPTV με το γνωστό μας Internet TV. Στην συνέχεια γίνεται μια γενική περιγραφή ενός δικτύου IPTV ενώ έπειτα εμβαθύνουμε περισσότερο καθώς περιγράφονται και τεχνικές λεπτομέρειες για ένα τέτοιο δίκτυο. Ακολούθως περιγράφονται οι κωδικοποιήσεις που πραγματοποιούνται αλλά και οι διάφορές τους. Επιπλέον γίνεται ιδιαίτερη αναφορά και ανάλυση στα διάφορα είδη των αποκωδικοποιητών (Set-Top Box) που χρησιμοποιούνται και επισημαίνονται οι διαφορές που έχουν στη δομή και στα χαρακτηριστικά τους. Τέλος γίνεται μια αναφορά στους παρόχους πακέτων IPTV στην Ελλάδα ενώ γίνεται και μια σύγκριση αυτών των πακέτων μεταξύ τους.
The theme of this particular thesis is the study of the digital television via Internet protocol, also known as IPTV (Internet Protocol TeleVision) with special focusing on the decoder which is used in order to achieve television broadcasting. This decoder is called Set-Top Box. Essentially, IPTV is the transmission of television signals over broadband which is using IP protocol through a closed private network and not the public Internet. IPTV is considered to be the present and the future regarding the types of television because the user has the ability to access TV channels with digital view, while the ability provided by on-demand services about watching every type of television content at every time the user wants makes the whole “package” much more attractive. Particularly, in this thesis, is firstly presented the definition of networking TV and generally of all these things which have contributed to the creation of IPTV. Following is a brief historical background to the events that led to the form of IPTV as we know it today. Afterwards, the IPTV is compared to the Internet TV, which is familiar to us. After that, a general description of an IPTV network is taking place and then we go further as technical details of such a network are described. Moreover, the encodings performed and their differences are mentioned. Additionally, there is much reporting and analysis in various types of decoders (Set-Top Box) used and marked the differences they have on their structure and their profile. Finally, there is a reference to IPTV packet providers in Greece and is happening a comparison among these packets.

Abstract:
The continuous developments made on the network infrastructures allow to provide quality in multimedia services over-the-top. Also, mobile data traffic has been increasingly growing along with smartphone’s capabilities. This growth motivates the creation of multi-platform solutions that can target not only these devices but, in the case of the IPTV world, also the set-top-boxes, smart televisions and computers. HTTP streaming is a technique directed to stream over-the-top multimedia. Many global platforms make use of HTTP streaming, with names like Youtube or Netflix. In this work, a server architecture for streaming the public Portuguese channels as well as a multiplatform client architecture are proposed. The proposed software can be deployed on any regular server and provide extra functionalities such as tv listings. The client can run on any Media Source Extension (MSE) browser, without the need of any plugin like Flash. Finally, some tests were made on the two entities (server and client) in order to test the performance of the server and behaviour of the client through different network conditions.
Os constantes desenvolvimentos a nível de infraestrutura de rede permitem fornecer serviços multimedia de qualidade sobre redes IP. Além disso, tráfego de dados em redes móveis tem crescido com o aumento de capacidades dos dispositivos móveis inteligentes, crescimento esse que motivou a criação de soluçõesmulti-plataformaquepodemdirecionarnãosóessesmesmosdispositivos, mas, no caso do mundo IPTV, também as set-top-boxes, televisores inteligentes e computadores. HTTP streaming é uma técnica direcionada a transmissão de dados multimedia sobre redes IP. Várias plataformas a nível global fazem uso de streaming HTTP, sendo Youtube ou Netflix dos exemplos mais conhecidos. Neste trabalho, é proposta uma arquitetura para um servidor de streaming dos canais públicos Portugueses, bem como, uma arquitetura de cliente multiplataforma. O software proposto pode ser implementado emqualquerservidorregularefornecerfuncionalidadesextra,comogrelhade programação. O cliente é suportado por qualquer navegador Media Source Extension (MSE) sem a necessidade de programas ou extensões adicionais, como o Flash. Finalmente, foram feitos alguns testes nas duas entidades (servidor e cliente) para testar o desempenho do servidor e o comportamento do cliente através de diferentes condições a nível de rede.

IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) is a type of multimedia TV service that transmits programs as IP package via the broadband Network. Contrary to the consuming type of traditional TV and broadcast, IPTV enables people to choose the TV programs they like at any time and any places, realizing the actual interaction between media-provider and media-consumer. With the application of IPTV, it is more efficient to combine TV, Communication and PC realms together. Just as the mobile phone facilitate our communication life and release the restriction of time and places, the newly-developed IPTV service free us from the restriction of the TV schedule. Combined with the three major realms, TV, Communication and Internet, IPTV service can be depicted as a triple play application and creates new relationships and markets for different industries. Most of the IPTV developments worldwide are dominated by telecom companies. However, in addition to telecom service provider, there are cable TV Multiple service operator, content provider, and internet service provider in Taiwan that providing IPTV service. Among these providers, there are advantages and disadvantages concerning to their operation. By data searching, SWOT analysis, and seven forces analysis, this research focuses on the IPTV developing trend and the circumstances worldwide, the development in current Taiwan and its regulation affairs. Also, the research aims to find the strategy of IPTV services, the upcoming challenge and competition, trying to make some suggestions to those who want to enter the IPTV service market.

Abstract In the digital convergence trend, the application of voice, data, or the media, can be provided by an Internet service provider, consumers, service providers, carriers or cable TV industry is not the focus, the focus is industry can provide a cheaper and more complete service. The revenue of the telecom and cable TV operators are stuck, IPTV service providers the opportunity to increase in revenue, and other carriers also want to take advantage of IPTV services to break the monopoly of China Telecom subscriber loop, if the industry can not in this digital convergence and Triple Play The competition to win a single service provider will be eliminated by the trend for the industry of both sides, this is a life or death competition, winner-take-all, loser eliminated. This study observed around the world to promote the IPTV experience, to collect the basic information of the Taiwan carriers and cable companies, IPTV industry value chain, applicable regulations, the difference between technology and the existing services comparison analysis of these two different industries, in IPTV to compete to have their own strengths and weaknesses, to identify competitive trends and the key to the success of the IPTV industry, expect the industry to develop the reference of the competitive strategy, and to identify industry development strategy. The diffusion mechanism from the network economy, which industry pioneered the use of their own advantage or to overcome the limitations, to master the critical success factors to achieve economies of scale, the number of users, resulting in positive feedback phenomenon and network effects, who is this digital convergence of competition winners. As the telephone network’s (VOIP) prevalence and the cable television system operators provides broadband internet and VOIP besides television services caused the revenue of telecom operators falling down increasingly, even though threaten the survival of the telecommunications operators. For the revenue case, telecom service operators in the world continuing renew the applying services. Transferring television video content has become the most developmentally potential applying service,which is the service of watching TV via internet, and has been so called the Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) of broadband hot service lately. With the theory of usage motivation information technology, this research attempts to explore what services and assistants the IPTV supports will inspire the user’s intension and behavior to use IPTV.。 In this study, as the base of population in Taiwan area, the main purpose is to understand the factors which influence the IPTV’s user’s intention and practically using behavior. Through the network questionnaires, this study collected 262 valid questionnaires with purposive sampling and committed quantitative analysis with Structural equation modeling (SEM). With the structure of UTAUT (unified theory of acceptance and use of technology), researching the impact of user’s intention and behavior to the IPTV through the four dimensions, ” Performance expectation”, “Effort Expectation”, “Social influence”, “Facility conditions”, and explored the moderating effect of the adjusting variations that include sex、age、experience、product、involving degree。 The results of this research as follows: 1.The influence of Performance expectation, effort expectation and social influence to the user’s using intention of IPTV is positive, but the using intention can’t forecast the practical using behavior obviously. Otherwise, the influence of Facility conditions to the user’s practical using behavio of IPTV is positive。 2.The consumer’s practical using intention to IPTV service will be affected by the moderating effect of Performance expectation of sex、age、experience and product involving degree。 3.The consumer’s practical using intention to IPTV service will be affected by the moderating effect of effort expectation of sex。 4.The consumer’s practical using behavior to IPTV service will be affected by the moderating effect of Facility conditions of experience and age。 The result of this research goes to submit suggestions to applying of IPTV service, and increase IPTV’s possibility and applicability。 Key words:Internet Protocol Television (IPTV),Multimedia video On Demand(MOD);Unified Theory of Acceptance and use of Technology (UTAUT), Video On Demand(VOD);product involving degree

In recent years, the IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) has been the important topic of the broadband e-service developments, and to be described that the killer application is for the next-generation Internet (Xiao et al., 2007). Nowadays, the consumers have various substitute choices of kinds of television pattern service, unless the entrepreneurs can keep the customers and increase their consumptions continually, it is difficult to maintain stable earning, not to mention to have profit. Therefore, how to maintain and promote the customer e-service loyal relations and how to earn more profits become the important topics of the IPTV’s development. This research’s goal is to discuss the important variables of e-service loyalty and to find the mutual relations during them by the base of IPTV. This research proposes the model construction by the document revise reorganization, the domestic biggest carrier provider, Chunghwa Telecom, whose MOD(Multimedia On Demand) service as the object of this program, through the questionnaire way and collect the materials and uses the PLS (Partial Least Squares), the analysis as follows: 1.IPTV’s Service Quality, Customer Perceived Value, Customer Satisfaction and Switching Cost have remarkable impact on Customer Loyalty. 2.IPTV’s Service Quality and Customer Perceived Value have remarkable impact on Customer Satisfaction. 3.IPTV’s Service Quality and Customer Perceived Sacrifice have remarkable impact on Customer Perceived Value. 4.The result of the Mutual Adjustment Effect proves that the relation either between Customer Switching Cost and Customer Satisfaction and Customer Loyalty or between Customer Switching Cost and customer perceived value and customer loyalty is nonexistent. The above result of main model construction has 70.5% explanation faith standard and of highly reference value. But the adjustment effect of switching Cost confirmation is failed that shows the present situation of high breaking lease rate in Taiwan. The research of the real diagnosis result will propose the management meanings and related suggestions to be the reference of the practical improvement and the academic following research direction.
