Abstract:
The progress and evolution trends in the area of ICT and ICT infrastructure based on convergence processes create new opportunities. Service providers and network operators can provide a wide spectrum of multimedia services and applications to end users. The IPTV services represent a specific group of multimedia services which are in the sphere of interest of the telecommunication technical community but also subscribers. Standardization bodies like ETSI TISPAN or ITU-T have defined standards for NGN-based IPTV architecture and services (IMS and non-IMS). The paper evaluates possibilities and potential architecture for concept of converged NGN IPTV. New vision of the converged NGN IPTV architecture is presented together with proposed enhancements compared to IMS-based IPTV where single converged platform can serve fixed, mobile, or wireless terminals. The concept for IPTV service roaming with mobility support and different interconnection scenarios are discussed with intention to show potential user benefits.

Abstract:
In mobile open Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) which is one of the major attracting technologies recently, the security is a key issue for reliable service, because the mobility and the openness in IPTV could cause much more vulnerabilities to various attacks compared with traditional IPTV services. In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient and secure channel group key establishment and rekeying management scheme for mobile open IPTV services. Our scheme provides the data authentication between an Evolved Node B (eNB) or a Base Station and the mobile devices for the security enhancement and efficiently rekeys the group key when the membership changes. Additionally, it proposes a pairwise key establishment mechanism for open IPTV services through eNBs. Our proposal can cope with the security vulnerability in mobile open IPTV services and guarantee the secure group key rekeying in addition to decreasing the storage and communication overhead.

Abstract:
In recent years, many telecommunication companies have regarded IP network as a new delivery platform for providing TV services because IP network is equipped with two-way and high-speed communication abilities which are appropriate to provide on-demand services and linear TV programs. However, in this IPTV system, the requests of VOD (video on demand) are usually aggregated in a short period intensively and user preferences are fluctuated dynamically. Moreover, the VOD content is updated frequently under the management of IPTV providers. Thus, an accurate popularity prediction method and an effective cache system are vital because they affect the IPTV performance directly. This paper proposed a new window-based popularity mechanism which automatically responds to the fluctuation of user interests and instantly adjusts the popularity of VOD. Further, we applied our method to a commercial IPTV system and the results illustrated that our mechanism indeed offers a significant improvement.

Abstract:
The emerging multimedia Internet application IPTV over P2P network preserves significant advantages in scalability. IPTV media content delivered in P2P networks over public Internet still preserves the issues of privacy and intellectual property rights. In this paper, we use SIP protocol to construct a secure application-layer multicast overlay network for IPTV, called SIPTVMON. SIPTVMON can secure all the IPTV media delivery paths against eavesdroppers via elliptic-curve Diffie-Hellman (ECDH) key exchange on SIP signaling and AES encryption. Its load-balancing overlay tree is also optimized from peer heterogeneity and churn of peer joining and leaving to minimize both service degradation and latency. The performance results from large-scale simulations and experiments on different optimization criteria demonstrate SIPTVMON's cost effectiveness in quality of privacy protection, stability from user churn, and good perceptual quality of objective PSNR values for scalable IPTV services over Internet.

Abstract:
Providing IPTV in the IMS network is increasingly a problem solved today. All households are gradually passing through innovation and slowly every equipment becomes the so-called intelligent or smart and can be connected to a private or public network where it can be monitored, configured, diagnosed and then repaired.. This same upgrading takes place in television, and its current output is in the form of IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) provided in the IP Multimedia Subsystem Network, a new generation network that provides both audio and video data. IMS has originated in 1999 for the 3GPP standard in the 5th edition when switching from a 2G network to a 3G network. It has supported the older GSM and GPRS networks, but also a new UMTS network. In the sixth edition, it also has began to work on WLAN networks, more voice-oriented, or speech recognition services. This paper focuses on the provision of IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) in the IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) network. The aim of our paper is to design IPTV services in the IMS network, define the IMS architecture and the IMS network components such as HSS (Home Subscriber Server), various types of CSCF (Call State Control Function), describe the functionality and services provided by IMS and IPTV and, finally, compare the quality of the IPTV service provided by our network and by network of selected operator.

Abstract:
This paper proposes a solution for solving packet loss and out-of-sequence problems in standard Hierarchical MIPv6. These days, the need for Mobile IPTV on Wireless devices which provide IPTV is rapidly increasing. Due to the development of Internet-based IPTV and wireless devices using an increased Mobile network, which uses mobile devices, handovers during movement are bound to be inevitable. Standard MIPv6 (Mobile IPv6) in the event of a handover needs more time to process which will lead to problems, such as packet loss and the out-of-sequence problems. For these reasons, providing wireless services is more difficult than providing wired services. To solve these problems, many protocols have been developed, but a lot of challenges still remain to be solved. We proposed a scheme to solve the packet loss and packet out-of-sequence problems and it also focused on providing better services for Mobile IPTV. We used HMIPv6 (Hierarchical Mobile IPv6) for improvement of handover procedures.

Abstract:
This study takes a holistic approach to understanding the diffusion of IPTV services by combining the adoption-diffusion model and the use-diffusion model of innovation. IPTV service, a leading converged application that couples media content with telecom services, was recently launched commercially in Korea. We created a structural model of adoption-diffusion, using the perceived ease-of-use and usefulness of TAM (Technology Acceptance Model) as mediating variables, and a structural model of usediffusion, with the rate of use and the variety of use as mediating variables. To empirically analyze these models, non-users of IPTV were surveyed using the adoptiondiffusion model to identify factors influencing their intention to subscribe to the service. Meanwhile, users of IPTV were surveyed using the use-diffusion model to determine the factors that influence their satisfaction with the service and their intention to re-use it. Under the adoption-diffusion model, we found that trialability, household innovativeness and perceived risk were the determinants of user satisfaction with IPTV, and perceived ease-of-use, the mediating factor. Under the use-diffusion model, complementarity and communication were shown to be the determinants of users’ satisfaction with IPTV, and variety of use, the mediating factor. We also found that consumers’ intentions to re-use IPTV was strongly influenced by its relative advantages and perceived risks.

Abstract:
Technologies providing copyright-infringing IPTV content are commonly used as an illegal alternative to legal IPTV subscriptions and services, as they usually have lower monetary costs and can be more convenient for users who follow content from different sources. These infringing IPTV technologies may include websites, software, software add-ons, and physical set-top boxes. Due to the free or low cost of illegal IPTV technologies, illicit IPTV content providers will often resort to intrusive advertising, scams, and the distribution of malware to increase their revenue. We developed an automated solution for collecting and analysing malware from illegal IPTV technologies and used it to analyse a sample of illicit IPTV websites, application (app) stores, and software. Our results show that our IPTV Technologies Malware Analysis Framework (IITMAF) classified 32 of the 60 sample URLs tested as malicious compared to running the same test using publicly available online antivirus solutions, which only detected 23 of the 60 sample URLs as malicious. Moreover, the IITMAF also detected malicious URLs and files from 31 of the sample’s websites, one of which had reported ransomware behaviour.

Abstract:
Mobile IPTV services over wireless cellular networks become more and more popular, owing to the significant growth in access bandwidth of wireless cellular networks such as 3G/4G and WiMAX. However, the spectrum resources of wireless cellular networks is rare. How to enhance the spectral efficiency of mobile networks becomes an important issue. Unicast, broadcast, and multicast are the most important transport schemes for offering mobile IPTV services over wireless cellular networks. Therefore, bandwidth usages and blocking rates of unicast, broadcast, and multicast IPTV services were analyzed and compared in this paper. Simulations were also conducted to validate the analytical results. Numerical results demonstrate that the presented analysis is correct, and multicast scheme achieves the best bandwidth usage and blocking rate performance, relative to the other two schemes.

Abstract:
These days, the advancing of smart devices (e.g. smart phones, tablets, PC, etc.) capabilities and the increase of internet bandwidth enables IPTV service provider to extend their services to smart mobile devices. User can just receive their IPTV service using any smart devices by accessing the internet via wireless network from anywhere anytime in the world which is convenience for users. However, wireless network communication has well a known critical security threats and vulnerabilities to user smart devices and IPTV service such as user identity theft, reply attack, MIM attack, and so forth. A secure authentication for user devices and multimedia protection mechanism is necessary to protect both user devices and IPTV services. As result, we proposed framework of IPTV service based on secure authentication mechanism and lightweight content encryption method for screen-migration in Cloud computing. We used cryptographic nonce combined with user ID and password to authenticate user device in any mobile terminal they passes by. In addition we used Lightweight content encryption to protect and reduce the content decode overload at mobile terminals. Our proposed authentication mechanism reduces the computational processing by 30% comparing to other authentication mechanism and our lightweight content encryption reduces encryption delay to 0.259 second.

Abstract:
The pervasive acceptability of a revolution from monodirectional push-based media broadcasting to a bidirectional interactive pull-based internet protocol television (IPTV) has spotted significant development in recent years. The pervasive acceptability is because of the mammoth number of exhilarating television (TV) channels that IPTV offers. However, the channel switching feature of a TV system requires additional development despite the increased implementation of IPTV systems worldwide. Subscribers of IPTV services must be able to swiftly explore live TV stations and video contents of interest seamlessly, but zapping delay is a deterrent that occurs during a channel change that causes a significant glitch in IPTV systems. Many of the literature approaches such as channel prediction based on behavior analysis have shown flaws in resolving zapping delay. The approach of this study uses adaptive channel switching with a personalized electronic program guide to resolving zapping delay. The resolution saves the subscribers the time of channel navigation by eliminating the need to search for channels they want to view.

This article describes the IPTV system, as well as its implementation methods and related protocols. The concept of IPTV includes both real-time television and recording television, the so-called VoD. In real time, streaming data is sent using only the RTP protocol and in addition to it, the RTSP protocol is used for streaming VoD. In addition, methods for measuring QoS parameters are analyzed, considering practical applications for estimating IPTV traffic parameters. An important feature of providing quality IPTV services is a high level of quality of service. Also, in theory, an Internet connection model with insufficient network bandwidth is considered. The following characteristics are taken into account: bandwidth, one-way delay, inter-packet jitter, the number of lost packets, the number of duplicated packets, packets with errors, and damaged packets. A reordering issue is mentioned. In addition, two important QoS parameters for VoD are measured: START delay and PAUSE / RESUME delays. Service messaging is considered while providing IPTV service. The maximum, average, and minimum values for the network quality of service parameters are found.

Abstract:
IP networks are indispensable nowadays and they are some of the most efficient platforms. The constantly growing number of users and new services in these networks – the largest being the Internet – require a satisfactory quality of service from any application they use. So, determining the QoS in real-time services is particularly important. This work shows how to quantify the suitability of reference signals for analyzing the quality of video streaming in IPTV. The assessment relies on two different algorithms: PEVQ and VQuad-HD. Three different reference signals – two real ones and an artificial one – are used in this study, and a numerical measurement system is used, which simulates mean network impairments. These measurements provide valuable information for determining the QoS of actual IPTV services in practice.

Abstract:

The world of telecommunications continues to provide radical technologies. Offering the benefits of a superior television experience at reduced long-term costs, IPTV is the newest offering. Deployments, however, are slow to be rolled out; the hardware and software support necessary is not uniformly available.
This paper examines the challenges in providing IPTV services and the limitations in developments to overcome these challenges. Subsequently, a proposal is made which attempts to help solve the challenge of fulfilling real-time multimedia transmissions through provisioning for differentiated services. Initial implementations in Opnet are documented, and the paper concludes with an outline of future work.

Abstract:
With the rapid advance in multimedia streaming and multicast transport technology, current IP multicast protocols, especially PIM-SM, become the major channel delivery mechanism for IPTV system over Internet. The goals for IPTV service are to provide two-way interactive services for viewers to select popular program channel with high quality for watching during fast channel surfing period. However, existing IP multicast protocol cannot meet above QoS requirements for IPTV applications between media server and subscribers. Therefore, we propose a cooperative scheme of hybrid-tree based on explicit routed multicast, called as HT-ERM to combine the advantages of shared tree and source tree for QoS-supported IPTV service. To increase network utilization, the constrained shortest path first (CSPF) routing algorithm is designed for construction of hybrid tree to deliver the high-quality video stream over watching channel and standard quality over surfing channel. Furthermore, the Resource Reservation Protocol- Traffic Engineering (RSVP-TE) is used as signaling mechanism to set up QoS path for multicast channel admission control. Our simulation results demonstrated that the proposed HT-ERM scheme outperforms other multicast QoS-based delivery scheme in terms of channel switching delay, resource utilization, and blocking ratio for IPTV service.

Abstract:
Many standards and even more proprietary technologies deal with IP-based television (IPTV). But none of them can transparently map popular public broadcast services such as DVB or ATSC to IPTV with acceptable effort. In this paper we explain why we believe that such a mapping using a light weight framework is an important step towards all-IP multimedia. We then present the NetCeiver architecture: it is based on well-known standards such as IPv6, and it allows zero configuration. The use of multicast streaming makes NetCeiver highly scalable. We also describe a low cost FPGA implementation of the proposed NetCeiver architecture, which can concurrently stream services from up to six full transponders.
