Abstract:
The Raman spectrum of the indocyanine-type dye IR-820 has been assigned for both solid and solution. SERS spectra of IR-820 on both silver and gold nanoparticles suspensions excited at 1064 nm were obtained. AgNPs allowed the detection of the dye through SERS down to 0.1 micromoles per liter; for the AuNPs the lowest concentration of the dye detectable was 10 micromoles per liter. Changes in the SERS relative intensities compared to the Raman spectrum in solution are subtle, mostly due to the preresonance effect of the dye. However, a perpendicular orientation relative to the metallic surface

Abstract:
Introduction: In the applications of room temperature detector for high-energy radiation, there are two critical requirements for the semiconducting material cadmium zinc telluride (CdZnTe): (1) high electrical resistivity to reduce the bulk leakage current and (2) low levels of structural defects which hinder the detectivity as trapping and recombination centers for the carriers. To enhance the performance of the detectors, an optimal single process has been developed in the melt growth of Cd0.8Zn0.2Te by directional solidification with controlled Cd overpressure to maximize the electrical re

Lipoprotein changes often precede incident type 2 diabetes and may be diabetogenic, but effects of lipid-lowering medications, ethnicity and sex on these associations are unclear. In the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis, among 5636 men and women, ages 45-84, without baseline diabetes or CVD, 694 diabetes cases were identified during mean follow-up of 7.7 years. NMR spectroscopy was used to measure lipoprotein particle concentrations and size, including a calculated lipoprotein-related insulin resistance score (LP-IR), on baseline plasma. Analyses were stratified by baseline lipid-lowering

ABSTRACTThe deposition of in-situ YBa2CU3O7-δ Superconducting films on polycrystalline diamond thin films has been demonstrated for the first time. Three different composite buffer layer systems have been explored for this purpose: (1) Diamond/Zr/YSZ/YBCO, (2) Diamond/Si3N4/YSZ/YBCO, and (3) Diamond/SiO2/YSZ/YBCO. The Zr was deposited by dc sputtering on the diamond films at 450 to 820 °C. The YSZ was deposited by reactive on-axis rf sputtering at 680 to 750 °C. The Si3N4 and SiO2 were also deposited by on-axis rf sputtering at 400 to 700 °C. YBCO films were grown on the buffer layers by off-a

AbstractA novel approach to making a material with negative index of refraction in the infrared frequency band is described. Materials with negative dielectric permittivity ε are utilized in this approach. Those could be either plasmonic (metals) or polaritonic (semiconductors) in nature. A sub-wavelength plasmonic crystal (SPC), with the period much smaller than the wavelength of light, consisting of nearly-touching metallic cylinders is shown to support waves with negative group velocity. The usage of such waves for sub-wavelength resolution imaging is demonstrated in a numerical double-slit
