Abstract:
Thrombin and related protease-activated receptors 1, 2, 3, and 4 (PAR1–4) play a multifunctional role in many types of cells including endothelial cells. Here, using RT-PCR and immunofluorescence staining, we showed for the first time that PAR1–4 are expressed on primary human brain microvascular endothelial cells (HBMEC). Digital fluorescence microscopy and fura 2 were used to monitor intracellular Ca2+concentration ([Ca2+]i) changes in response to thrombin and PAR1-activating peptide (PAR1-AP) SFFLRN. Both thrombin and PAR1-AP induced a dose-dependent [Ca2+]irise that was inhibited by pretreatment of HBMEC with the phospholipase C inhibitor U-73122 and the sarco(endo)plasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase inhibitor thapsigargin. Thrombin induced transient [Ca2+]iincrease, whereas PAR1-AP exhibited sustained [Ca2+]irise. The PAR1-AP-induced sustained [Ca2+]irise was significantly reduced in the absence of extracellular calcium or in the presence of an inhibitor of store-operated calcium channels, SKF-96365. Restoration of extracellular Ca2+to the cells that were initially activated by PAR1-AP in the absence of extracellular Ca2+resulted in significant [Ca2+]irise; however, this effect was not observed after thrombin stimulation. Pretreatment of the cells with a low thrombin concentration (0.1 nM) prevented [Ca2+]irise in response to high thrombin concentration (10 nM), but pretreatment with PAR1-AP did not prevent subsequent [Ca2+]irise to high PAR1-AP concentration. Additionally, treatment with thrombin decreased transendothelial electrical resistance in HBMEC, whereas PAR1-AP was without significant effect. These findings suggest that, in contrast to thrombin, stimulation of PAR1 by untethered peptide SFFLRN results in stimulation of store-operated Ca2+influx without significantly affecting brain endothelial barrier functions.

Abstract:
Abstract This study explores energy allocation strategies for hybrid electric-hydrogen fuel cell transport trucks. The focus is optimizing the synergy between hydrogen fuel cells and batteries to balance economic viability and environmental sustainability. An improved RIME (IRIME) algorithm enhances earthmoving transport node efficiency. Addressing the limitations of traditional multi-objective optimization and dynamic constraints, a hybrid framework combining dynamic programming (DP) and IRIME is proposed. DP optimizes multi-stage transport decisions, while IRIME efficiently identifies Pareto optimal solutions. Simulations validate the approach under various scenarios, comparing it to traditional dynamic programming and other optimization techniques. Case studies demonstrate a 9% improvement in efficiency and reduced cycle time compared to traditional dynamic programming and other algorithms.

It is shown that, when sputtered onto the surface of the (111) Ir face in the temperature range 1100–1250 K, beryllium atoms form a surface chemical compound of stoichiometry Ir3Be with a concentration of adsorbed beryllium NBe=5•1014 cm–2, after which the newly deposited beryllium atoms dissolve in the volume of the metal . The Ir3Be surface compound itself is destroyed due to the dissolution of beryllium in the temperature range of 1250–1400 K with an activation energy increasing from 3.2 eV to 3.7 eV with decreasing Be concentration. At T>1400 K, the thermal desorption channel is switched on. The formation of the Ir3Be surface compound significantly lowers the energy barrier E for the dissolution of Be atoms in the bulk of iridium by Δ E>1.7 eV.

Abstract:
An insatiable creator with a complex personality, it is not easy to define the artistic physiognomy of Paul Iribe. In turn, caricaturist, journalist, decorator, jewellery designer, scenographer, stylist, photographer, publisher, screenwriter, director, costume designer, ... Iribe, like Cocteau, with whom he shares the first years of his creative life, touches everything with an uncommon ease and talent, thus defying all those who would be tempted to confine him to an artistic domain. One observation is clear. If Iribe, in the early 1910s, is omnipresent in all fields of the decorative arts, his furniture creations seem to attract little attention from the specialized French press. This lack of interest from French periodicals is explained, among other things, by the young creator's choice to stay outside of all commercial circuits. While being highly sought after by a wealthy clientele and "very imitated" by his colleagues, Iribe remains aloof from official events. Snobbery in the style of des Esseintes, or does he judge the approach to be unproductive in terms of visibility and therefore profitability? There is a certain paradox in considering that Iribe does "everything" to emerge from anonymity and become an important artistic figure of these 10 years but does nothing to cultivate his popularity. The few articles that pay tribute to him testify to this creative effervescence that proceeds both from prodigy and the art of dispersion. For some, Iribe is the precursor of modern Decorative Art, the one "who showed the way", for others, he is more the man of aborted revolutions, never fully exploiting his brilliant intuitions. Also, to follow the artistic itinerary of Paul Iribe is to follow the path of an original artist, fiercely attached to his freedom, but also to follow the aesthetic problems that confront modern decorator artists in these pre-war years when the "cosmopolitanism quarrel" is in full swing. To follow the journey of Paul Iribe is to understand the complexity of this pivotal period, the passage from one style to another, from Art Nouveau to Art Deco. This "new style", which is being developed in the 1910s, owes at least as much to Paul Iribe as to figures now emblematic of this transition, such as André Groult. The rose and the shagreen, so characteristic of this period, owe to Iribe; for the first its iconic status, for the second, its revival, until it becomes the symbol of Art Deco. Exiled to the United States, where he puts his talent at the service of producer-director Cecil DeMille, he misses the effervescence of the 20s and disappears completely from the Parisian scene. But even more painful is the indifference in which the organizers of the 1925 International Exhibition of Decorative Arts hold him. No reminder is made of this "rose" style. He is forgotten. By exiling himself, Iribe has put himself on the index of all the new trends, of which he was one of the precursors, and which the war has given birth to. Bitterness is emerging. The daring decorator of the pre-war years gives way to a virulent pamphleteer. He launches a campaign against the art of his time and puts all his energy into defending the luxury industries and craftsmanship. But are these really his convictions? His conquest of Gabrielle Chanel and his talents as a publicist, however, suggest new perspectives for his work. Their emotional but also artistic complicity is profitable for him. With this last companion, his talent, intact, is expressed again without restraint

Billi, Erica.

Abstract:

Both Samuel Kim and Akira Iriye are Asian American scholars and have conducted researches regarding China in the United States over 40 years. The synthetic-interactive explanation adopted by Kim is not based on mono-causal approach. Instead, various factors would be synthesized in his study. When discussing bilateral or multilateral relations, Iriye would rather take no specific viewpoint and tends to be centrist. Furthermore, he tries to find out a sphere based on culture where each party could accept. In explicit or implicit way, Kim and Iriye claim they belong to the second generation of American scholarship on China studies. Therefore, with the synthetic or centrist approach, those two Asian American scholars not only grab the opportunity to enter the community on China Study, but also initiate the dialogues with other scholars.

This thesis reflects the epistemology and identity strategies of researchers with multiple identities by discussing Japanese-American Akira Iriye’s background and scholar work. Akira Iriye belongs to the second generation of America’s East Asian history researches. He takes the initiative to change the traditional American diplomatic history from a American-centered and realistic views to cultural shift and de-centered views. In Iriye’s texts, he always reveals that his major intention is to pursue universalism and to build a peaceful world. Besides, China seems to mean a great deal for both Iriye himself and his blueprint of a peaceful world. Therefore, dealing with Iriye’s views on the world and China, I find out that Iriye adopts a centric discourse trying to achieve neutral and objective history research. The centric discourse strategy is the one that the researchers with multiple identities get used to adopting when facing the pressures from the homeland and inhabited area. But, Iriye’s texts still reveal implicitly that he tries to defend and favor Japan, which should be related to his multiple identities and growing background. Consequently, Iriye’s centric discourse strategy is not appropriate to be described as neutral and objective.
