Environmental Context. Aquatic life requires access to sufficient nutrients and trace metals in the surrounding waters. Measuring the speciation (in solution or precipitated, free ionic or complexed) of trace metals is a traditional procedure to assess the potential of waters for life. Iron, an important nutrient, is relatively insoluble, and metal–ligand complexes are required to keep the iron in solution and bioavailable. Sunlight often degrades these metal–ligand complexes, and the subsequently released iron can outcompete other (trace) metals for their ligands. A ‘domino’ effect on weaker

Abstract Iron sulfide scaling can manifest both downhole and topside in sour production scenarios. Topsides development can be mitigated via continuous strategic application of an appropriate sulfide scale inhibitor package, however downhole sulfide scaling presents a more complex challenge. Continuous downhole application of sulfide scale inhibitors via capillary string and valve, or routed to valve via existing gas lift architecture are two common delivery options available to the operator, but are unfortunately both limited to providing scale control at injection valve depth and up-string.

Abstract:

The publication is devoted to the results of an archaeological study of mound 10 of the Tulebaitobe-III burial ground, located in South Kazakhstan, in which a collective burial in a catacomb was discovered, a complex of artifacts was obtained, including tableware (pot and jug), remote weapons (a bone middle lining on the bow handle, iron stalked arrowheads), melee weapons (calling), horse harness (parts of a bridle, bit), household items (iron knives, belt buckles) and a ritual stone artifact. This complex, by its origin and ethno-cultural parameters, is associated with the state of Kangyui, a

Cast iron (FC and NCM) and forged steel (ST) discs, and four types of sintered friction material pads have been employed in the braking systems of Japanese high-speed trains. These sintered friction materials have complex microstructures. This paper reports result of an investigation to establish correlations between friction, wear and temperature characateristics of the disc–pad friction pairs and pad microstructure. A scale friction rig was used to examine friction, wear and temperature performance of the selected brake friction pairs. Area fraction of lubricants in the sintered friction mat

III в. до н. э.): фундаменты строений, каменные вымостки, водосборный водо

We need a new way of talking about global warming. UN Secretary General António Guterres underscored this when he said the “era of global boiling” has arrived. Although we have made remarkable progress on a very complex problem over the past thirty years, we have a long way to go before we can keep the global temperature increase to below 2°C relative to the pre-industrial times. Climate models suggest that this next decade is critical if we are to avert the worst consequences of climate change. The world must continue to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and find ways to adapt and build resili

Significant sedimentation issues persist within the St. Francis Basin as a result of extensive drainage alterations. The objective of this study is to characterize the bed and bank sediment throughout the study reach and identify potential sources of sediment contributing to the sanding issues below Holly Island. The sedimentation below Holly Island increases the Memphis District’s maintenance needs in the St. Francis River Basin by requiring millions of dollars for channel cleanout and bank stabilization projects. Between 1911 and 1984, the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) conducted a large number of corrosion studies that included the measurement of corrosion damage to samples exposed to real-world environments. One of these studies was an investigation conducted between 1922 and 1940 into the corrosion of bare steel and wrought iron pipes buried underground at 47 different sites representing different soil types across the United States. At the start of this study, very little was known about the corrosion of ferrous alloys underground. The objectives of this study were to determine (i) if coatings

Several grape varieties and red wines were found to contain large concentration of phenolic compounds which work as antioxidant in-vitro and in-vivo. Wastes from wine production contain antioxidants in large amounts, between 2-6% on dry material basis. Red wines but also white wines were found to prevent lipid peroxidation of turkey muscle tissues stored at 5oC. The antioxidant reaction of flavonoids found in red wines against lipid peroxidation were found to depend on the structure of the molecule. Red wine flavonoids containing an orthodihydroxy structure around the B ring were found highly
