The potential accessibility of Fe2S(CO)n derivatives with 1:2 sulfur to iron ratios by the decarboxylation of iron carbonyl thionyls has led to their investigation using density functional theory. The lowest energy Fe2S(CO)n (n = 8, 7, 6) structures are predicted to be singlet structures with all terminal CO groups, a bridging sulfur atom, and a formal Fe–Fe single bond of length ∼2.5 Å. The Fe−S distances in these structures shorten from ∼2.3 to ∼2.1 Å as CO groups are lost, suggesting an increase in the formal Fe−S bond orders. The thermochemistry of CO dissociation suggests that both Fe2S(C

We study the effect of a single non-magnetic impurity and vortex core states in iron-selenide superconductors by solving the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations self-consistently based on a three-orbital model. Various pairing symmetry are considered in the calculation. The impurity-induced in-gap bound states are found only for attractive impurity scattering potential, as in the cases of doping of Co or Ni, which is characterized by the strong particle-hole asymmetry, in the nodeless d_(x^2-y^2 ) wave pairing state. Abstract Due to its attractive combination of cost, mechanical properties and castability, use of Spheroidal Graphite Cast Iron (SGCI) has lately, to some extent, replaced steel for use in structural and mechanical components in subsea applications. Subsea structures are typically protected by use of sacrificial anodes attached to the host structure. Under such conditions nascent hydrogen is generated on the surface of the protected material due to the cathode reaction, hence Hydrogen Induced Stress cracking (HISC) is a constant concern for subsea components subjected to tensile stress. Often, this mechanism of electrochemical action is generated from various sources, such as cathodic protection systems, direct current power trains or street cars, arc-welding equipment, direct current transmission systems, and electrical grounding systems. For underground pipelines, the most frequent source is from an impressed current cathodic protection system. Typically, corrosion engineers deal with stray current corrosion on welded-steel,

Abstract The protective effect of H2S on steel corrosion arises from the formation of iron sulfide (FeS) passive films on steel surfaces. Various iron sulfides with different crystal structures, including mackinawite, cubic ferrous sulfide, pyrrhotite, and greigite, can develop as corrosion products for steel. The effect of those scales on corrosion damage is intricately linked to their physicochemical attributes and morphology. As multiphase streams move through pipelines, interplaying physical and chemical factors can lead to localized pitting attacks, especially where the iron sulfide film
