Abstract:
Humans are inherently unique and have a tendency to think rationally and irrationally. When people think and act rationally, humans will be effective, happy, and competent. Conversely, when thinking and behaving irrationally, individuals will become ineffective. A person's emotional reaction to a situation/event is largely due to conscious or unconscious evaluations, interpretations, and philosophies. Psychological or emotional barriers are the result of illogical and irrational ways of thinking. Emotions accompany individuals who think with prejudice, are highly personal, and irrational. Irrational thinking begins with learning illogically obtained from parents and the culture in which they grew up. Thinking irrationally will be reflected in the verbalization used. Illogical verbalizations indicate wrong ways of thinking and proper verbalizations show correct ways of thinking. This research activity is a form of implementing counseling practices with a Rational Therapy approach to people with mental disorders, in this case, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) at Yayasan Satu Hati Membangun (YASAM).

Abstract:
The research aims to examine the influence of irrational behaviour on stock investment decision, specifically, anchoring, disposition effect, home bias, herding, overconfidence and the risk perception. The research further investigates the moderating role of gender between irrational behaviour and stock investment decision. Finally, it reveals which irrational behaviour is most prevalent. A survey collected the primary data from 425 individual investors. The survey evidence shows that, of six irrational behaviours, anchoring, disposition effect, overconfidence and risk perception were influence the investment decision of individual investors, and risk perception comes out to be the significant irrational behaviour on stock investment decision. It further explores that gender has a significant moderation for anchoring, disposition effect, herding, overconfidence, risk perception, and stock investment decision. We recommend that if individuals are aware of the behavioural biases, it will help them for making the right stock investment decisions. The study also relevant for financial advisors, stockbrokers and policymakers as it facilitates them in gaining a better understanding of their clients’ irrational behaviour. The present study gives a unique insight into the individual investors’ profile of gender corresponding to each main irrational behaviour on investment decision under consideration of stock investment.

Abstract:
Understanding decisions is the fundamental aim of the behavioural sciences. The theory of rational choice is based on axiomatic principles such as transitivity and independence of irrelevant alternatives (IIA). Empirical studies have demonstrated that the behaviour of humans and other animals often seems irrational; there can be a lack of transitivity in choice and seemingly irrelevant alternatives can alter decisions. These violations of transitivity and IIA undermine rational choice theory. However, we show that an individual that is maximizing its rate of food gain can exhibit failure of transitivity and IIA. We show that such violations can be caused because a current option may disappear in the near future or a better option may reappear soon. Current food options can be indicative of food availability in the near future, and this key feature can result in apparently irrational behaviour.

Abstract:
Research background:The progress of business activity depends on current trends in customer shopping behavior in a global environment. The current trend is also becoming a factor of irrationality, which enters the process of purchasing behavior. It is supported by the emotions and desires of consumers. In this sense, it is important to understand the irrational behavior of customers and respect the individual behavioral characteristics in the sales process. By respecting these characteristics, a company can strengthen its brand and marketing strategy with a view to gaining a global competitive advantage. Research will highlight the importance of irrational customer behaviour between the global Lindt and Hershey brands. We will find out whether the pricing policy and the discount are important for influencing shopping behaviour.Purpose of the article:In the article, we pointed out the importance of behavioral characteristics of irrational shopping behaviour in the above-mentioned global brands. We will confirm whether the research of Dr. Ariely and despite the current trends, irrationality prevails in shopping behaviour in the environment of Slovak customers. Methods:In order to assess the theoretical assumptions of behavioral economics and irrational shopping behavior, we used methods of analysis, synthesis. In the analytical part of the article, we also used the method of sociological questioning in order to ensure the credibility of the entire research. In the discussion part of the article, we used the method of induction.Findings & Value added:Pointing out the importance and connection of irrational purchasing behavior in the application of the company’s marketing strategy in a global market environment.

Full text
Abstract:
This study examined the effects of a stress inoculation training program on self-reported Type A behaviour pattern (TABP) and irrational beliefs in a sample of female medical, dental, and graduate students. Thirteen female medical students from the first, second, and third years of medical school, one female dental student from the first year of dental school, and 16 female graduate student volunteers were assigned to a 6-week stress inoculation group (SI; n = 14) or a 4-hour brief treatment group (BT; n = 16) in a repeated measures (pre, post, 11-week follow-up) quasi-experimental design. Participants completed the Rational Behavior Inventory, the Irrational Beliefs Test, the Type A Irrational Beliefs Test, and the Framingham Type A Scale (modified) in order to assess treatment effects. Price's (1982) cognitive social learning model proposes that TABP is elicited and maintained, in part, by specific beliefs and the fears and anxieties that they engender. Following this model, it was hypothesized that self-reported TABP, irrational beliefs, and Type A irrational beliefs would significantly decrease, and rational behaviour, or general rational thinking, would significantly increase, from pre- to post-test and these changes would be maintained at 11-week follow-up in the SI group, compared with the BT group. Repeated measures MANOVAs with pre-planned contrasts indicated that SI was effective in significantly reducing TABP from pre-to post-test. Both SI and BT were effective in significantly decreasing irrational beliefs and Type A irrational beliefs, as well as significantly increasing rational behaviour, or general rational thinking, from pre to post-test. These changes were maintained at follow-up and provide further insight into the relationship between TABP and irrational beliefs. This study provides partial support for Price's model and implicates the use of stress inoculation training in the treatment of TABP in female medical, dental, and graduate students. Implications of these findings and suggestions for future research are discussed.

Abstract:
The basis of this thesis is that weapons of mass destruction will continue to proliferate and will inevitably - given enough time- be used against civilian populations repeatedly. As this occurs the opposition between support for international law and the power of the state will intensify. This will go on for some time and will, in all probability, become extremely destructive. Eventually, however, the states (and individual people) of the world will realize that the simultaneous existence of international anarchy and weapons of mass destruction runs counter to long term human survival. This realization will , very likely, lead people to eliminate anarchy, i.e. create a world government.

Abstract:
Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT: Ellis, 2001) represents the original cognitive behavioural therapy (eBT) model of psychopathology. Although there is much empirical support for the basic theory of REBT (see David, Lynn, & Ellis, 2010), the model has never been tested in the context of posttraumatic stress responses to adverse life events. The first empirical chapter of the thesis investigated the construct validity of the Attitudes and Belief Scale 2 (ABS-2: DiGiuseppe, Leaf, Exner, & Robin, 1988). This chapter employed traditional confirmatory factor analysis and confirmatory bifactor modelling to investigate the psychometric properties of the ABS-2. Results indicated that a bifactoral model conceptualisation was found to offer an adequate representation of the underlying factor structure of the scale. Based on these results, an abbreviated version of the ABS-2 with superior psychometric properties was thus constructed. In the second empirical chapter confirmatory bifactor modelling and composite reliability analysis were employed to investigate the psychometric properties of the Profile of Emotional Distress (PED: Opris & Macavei, 2007). The PED was designed to capture the qualitative distinction between dysfunctional emotions, as predicted by REBT theory. Results indicated that the PED does not capture the distinction between functional and dysfunctional negative emotions, however a bifactor model inclusive of a single general distress factor, and four method factors was found to be an acceptable fit of the data. The third empirical chapter utilised structural equation modelling to test the organisation of the irrational beliefs in the prediction of posttraumatic stress responses. A model consistent with the predictions of REBT theory was found to be a good fit of the data and explained a large percentage of variance in each symptom class of posttraumatic stress. The fourth empirical chapter provided the first piece of empirical evidence that generalised irrational beliefs impact upon posttraumatic stress symptoms via trauma-specific irrational beliefs; a frequently hypothesised relationship which had hitherto remained untested. Results of structural equation modelling offered support for this core hypothesis. Subsequently, the fifth empirical chapter investigated the impact of trauma-specific irrational beliefs in the prediction of reporting posttraumatic stress symptoms while controlling for a number of important sociodemographic factors. Binary logistic regression ~ .. ~ ... analysis was employed and found that three irrational belief process positively predicted belong to the strongly symptomatic group. Finally, the sixth empirical chapter employed sequential moderated multiple regression analysis to determine if rational beliefs could positively moderate the impact of irrational beliefs of posttraumatic stress symptoms. Rational beliefs were found to exert a negative, direct effect on posttraumatic stress symptoms, and to lessen the impact of irrational beliefs on posttraumatic stress responses.

Abstract:
We introduce Forecasting Argumentation Frameworks (FAFs), a novel argumentation-based methodology for forecasting informed by recent judgmental forecasting research. FAFs comprise update frameworks which empower (human or artificial) agents to argue over time about the probability of outcomes, e.g. the winner of an election or a fluctuation in inflation rates, whilst flagging perceived irrationality in the agents' behaviour with a view to improving their forecasting accuracy. FAFs include five argument types, amounting to standard pro/con arguments, as in bipolar argumentation, as well as novel proposal arguments and increase/decrease amendment arguments. We adapt an existing gradual semantics for bipolar argumentation to determine the aggregated dialectical strength of proposal arguments and define irrational behaviour. We then give a simple aggregation function which produces a final group forecast from rational agents' individual forecasts. We identify and study properties of FAFs, and conduct an empirical evaluation which signals FAFs' potential to increase the forecasting accuracy of participants.

Abstract:
Closed-form solutions of infinite Bernoulli-Euler beams on a viscoelastic foundation are available for harmonic excitations with frequency Ω. For more general time-dependent loadings and beam-systems with local perturbations, for example caused by non-linear effects an overall treatment of the system in the time-domain is highly appropriated. Here the analytical dynamic stiffness of the infinite beam in the frequency-domain is approximated by a rational polynomial in the low frequency-domain and by an irrational part representing the asymptotic behaviour for Ω tending towards infinity. Thus, the corresponding description in the time-domain contains a fractional time derivative part and additonal internal variables due to splitting the rational polynomial into a linear system with respect to Ω.
