"Women’s fashion has been a steadfast symbol of power and distinction throughout history. In the Baroque Spain, - marked by artifice, theatricality and opulence- the clothing of royal women set a definitive tend for the aristocratic and affluent classes of society, while simultaneously reaffirming their own roles of authority and sovereignty, as well as their privileged and esteemed status. The 17th century portrait offers a valuable lens through which to discover and contextualize that the clothing showed a compendium of tastes on the part of the two wives of Philip IV, marked by the place of

Since the reign of Juan II and especially Queen Isabel I of Castile, we have found that silk fabrics had displaced expensive dyed wool cloths from the first place, at least among the privileged groups. At the same time, a very fine linen fabric, the holanda spread in a spectacular way, at least in the case of the House of Isabel I, especially as body linen and household line. In this article, we discuss how these changes could be transmitted downwards through some examples of different social groups - nobility, townspeople, peasants - considering the economic and social limitations that would

It covers Juana's life as princess, from her childhood in the Castilian court up to her mother's death in 1504. Juana was age twenty-five when she became queen, an unexpected turn of events for a young woman who had been third in the line of succession.
