Abstract:

Abstract:
The research conducted in The Bubble That Burst – Isabella Löwengrip’s Crisis Communication Through Blog Posts aims to answer how Isabella Löwengrip attempted to save both her and her companies images during a crisis in the fall of 2019. Benoit’s Image Repair Theory and Goffman’s Self-Presentation Theory were combined to create the framework of this study. The material studied were blog posts uploaded onto her personal blog that mainly concerned the crisis during the months of October and November 2019. To demonstrate how the crisis evolved, additional material was added from February 2020. A textual rhetorical analysis method was used to investigate how Löwengrip aimed to persuade the blog’s readers that both she and her companies are still trustworthy. The results showed that Löwengrip used several Image Repair as well as rhetorical strategies. Löwengrip also changed her self-presentation during the crisis. Furthermore, it demonstrates how aware she is about her image. Additionally, the personal character of the blog medium makes the crisis communication more emotionally based and relationship building than traditional Image Repair and crisis communication efforts.

Abstract:
This study is scientifically aimed at the problematic question of the present situation regarding the climate in the Bible Education classroom in secondary schools. A possible cause of the problems experienced with Bible Education and the negative view prevalent with regard to the subject, can be ascribed to the prevailing climate in the Bible Education classroom in the secondary school. An empirical study was conducted by means of a structured questionnaire distributed to the Bible Education teachers and a stratified sample of ten pupils per class at four Afrikaanse secondary schools. The four schools were chosen at random and served as test sample. According to the answers of the respondents, it became clear that the present classroom climate puts a very high premium on rules and control in the classroom. Therefore it would appear as if a lot of work needs to be done concerning the mutual relationship between teacher and pupil for the effective improvement of the climate in the classroom.<br>Skripsie (MEd (Didaktiese Opvoedkunde))--PU vir CHO, 1995

Claasen, Cornelia Isabella. "The formulation and evaluation of urea containing products / Cornelia Isabella Claasen." Thesis, North-West University, 2003. http://hdl.handle.net/10394/251.

Full text
Abstract:
Almost every person will experience dry skin during his or her lifetime. Many people experience occasional episodes, but some have a chronic problem with xerosis that is irritating and troublesome. Moisturisers are the mainstay of treatment for dry skin, daily maintenance of normal skin, and adjunctive therapy for many skin diseases (Flynn et al., 2001:387). The objectives of this study were the formulation and evaluation of urea containing products. Seven different cosmetic products were formulated: hair gel, shampoo, facial toner, facial cleanser, day cream, foot and heel balm and a body cream. The product development program started with a pre-formulation study, followed by formulation of the seven skin care products, which were followed by stability testing, based on the requirements of the South African Medicines Control Council (2003:21, 22, 23) for new products. The stability of all skin care products must he matched to the expected period of usage by the consumer, as well as to the user's requirements. The formulations were tested under ICH conditions (accelerated stability studies) over a period of three months at three different storage temperatures, i.e. 5"C, 25"C/60%/RH, 40°C/75%RH. Stability indicating tests that applied to these formulations, were conducted: pH, relative density, viscosity, appearance, penetration, spreadability, assay of urea, the assays of the preservatives and the release study of urea by means of membrane release. Chapter 1 gives a literature overview of the skin and the properties and uses of urea. Chapter 2 deals with the formulation of the urea products and the chemicals that have been used. Chapter 3 describes the methods used for accelerated stability testing. Chapter 4 finally deals with the results obtained and the conclusions that were made. The test results showed the following: There was a prominent change in the pH of all the formulated products, this can be due to the decomposition of urea into carbon dioxide and ammonia (Beiersdorf, 2003). Higher temperature and moisture increase this decomposition and cause the pH to increase to values as high as 9 (Anon, 2003:20). However, urea compositions can be stabilised when they contain methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) (Herschler, 1981:l). The viscosity, spreadability, penetration, relative density and appearance of the products remained more or less the same over three months, except for the day cream and the facial cleanser where phase separation occurred after 1 month. The urea content decreased with time, but only dropped to below 90% in the day cream after 3 months at 4O0C/75% RH. HPLC analysis of the preservatives confirmed their stability in the formulated products. The preservative efficacy results proved that the products were sufficiently protected from microbial contamination. The release study indicated that urea is released at a steady rate from the preparations tested. The release of urea from the hair gel is about four times faster than that from the body cream and the foot and heel balm. In general, the release is influenced by the viscosity of the medium and should be faster from the gel than from the creams (Shah et al., 1991:55). In conclusion it can be said that urea was successfully formulated into the seven cosmetic products except for the facial cleanser and day cream which must be stabilised.<br>Thesis (M.Sc. Paoletti, Erika. "Rhetorique d'Imagination et de Sprezzatura Chez Louise Labe et Isabella Andreini." Thesis, Boston College, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/2345/3713.

Full text
Abstract:
Thesis advisor: Laurie Shepard<br>"Rhetoric of Imagination and of Sprezzatura in Louise Labé and Isabella Andreini" redefines the relationship between gender and imagination in the act of writing. The goal is not to argue that women write in a different manner than men, rather, by reading their texts together with male contemporaries, this work illustrates how writers engaged in various strategies, and in particular the rhetoric of imagination and of sprezzatura, to establish themselves within the literary culture of the period. Labé (c.1520-1566) and Andreini (1562-1604), grant themselves the authority to write by modeling their needs on the examples set by their male counterparts. The Introductory Chapter consists of a statement of the purpose of the study, its significance, and an outline of the work; it also includes biographies of Louise Labé and Isabella Andreini and contextualizes their socio-economical status. Chapter 1: Prefaces in Louise Labé and Isabella Andreini, A Means to Self-Promotion, analyzes the prefaces of Labé and Andreini, in which they solicit patronage. This practice is an important tool for those seeking social mobility, security, and recognition by others. Chapter 2: Rhetoric of Imagination in Louise Labé and Isabella Andreini, elaborates the role and essential androgyny of imagination. By focusing on the fundamental characteristics of this faculty, its "power of sensory representation," this dissertation argues that Petrarca and Montaigne's idea of imagination is intimately related to man's desire to transform reality, to produce images and, ultimately, to engage in the act of writing, and both Labé and Andreini self-consciously reflect on this function in their words. Both writers develop a rhetoric of imagination that permits them to surpass the very question of gender by taking a position of power with respect to their writing and their rights as authors. Chapter 3: Rhetoric of sprezzatura in Louise Labé and Isabella Andreini, examines how Labé and Andreini use sprezzatura as a rhetorical strategy that allows them to identify with their male ounterparts and cross the boundaries of society while seeking "fame." From my analysis of imagination and sprezzatura I have observed that these are two conditions that create tension between their private and public spheres of Labé and Andreini. On the one hand, imagination is a mental effort, and belongs to the realm of the private; and, on the other, sprezzatura is tied to the rules of eloquence, thus belongs to the realm of the public. In their texts this duality manifests itself through the interplay of the androgynous "I" which masks their identity. In conclusion, this study shows how Labé and Andreini manipulate the existing dominating structure of society to fit gender expectations<br>Thesis (PhD) — Boston College, 2013<br>Submitted to: Boston College. Abstract:
Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The present work examines the literary criticism expressed by Isabella Teotochi Albrizzi in several of her unpublished letters.<br>The first part outlines the cultural and historical tradition of Venice during the Eighteenth Century. Particular attention is subsequently given to the intellectual role of women, their contribution to the literary salons of the time, and the neoclassical tradition. This first part is essential in that it supplies a valuable context to Isabella Teotochi Albrizzi's writings.<br>In the second part, I examine Isabella Teotochi Albrizzi's literary criticism of major European authors and works. Through these criticisms she exposes her misvision of the literary world to which she aspired, and reveals that although she was influenced by the subtle preromantic tendencies, she remained faithful to the neoclassical school.

Due to the widespread use of several terms to define the existence of sensationalism in the news and to theoretical imprecision in the subject, we have seen the need to seek concise and clear theories for this area of the journalistic studies. Because of the existent gap relating to this genre, this study tries to unravel the properties – linguistic ones or not – that are necessary to describe the occurrence of sensationalism in the journalistic activity. As a case study, we will address the death of the girl Isabella Nardoni, which happened in March 2008, in Sao Paulo, and that received spectacular media coverage, touched Brazilian’s lives and became a landmark for the studies regarding the course of journalism in the country. The media – including a variety of programmes and editorial views – “elected” the case to be given extraordinary coverage, working, many times, ahead of the police investigation. But why did the little girl Isabella get such attention from the press and the society itself, which followed this crime so closely? And why is journalism essential to not only announce the news, but also to make value judgments about the facts? In this research, aiming to answer these questions, the importance of journalism in society will be addressed, by showing how it is able to influence the public opinion directly and instigate, very often, the violence in the people. It is evident that the wide exposure of this case in the media has caused the public outcry and that it was a determining factor to the conviction of the defendants, during the jury trial held in March 2010.<br>Este trabalho nasceu das investigações acerca do jornalismo sensacionalista no Brasil.

Abstract:
The Women's Section (Seccion Femenina) of the Franco regime's bureaucratic framework was founded in 1934 as an offshoot of the small fascist party, the Falange. Its leader, Pilar Primo de Rivera, was the sister of the Falange's founder, Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera and remained in post throughout the regime. The present study is of Seccion Femenina (SF) as it developed following the death of Jose Antonio during the Spanish Civil War, becoming part of the regime's bureaucracy while retaining its original ideological base. The thesis examines the emerging role of SF in the Spanish Civil War as a supporter of the Nationalist cause and its mandate in 1939 to train and prepare the women and girls in Spain for life under the new regime. SF's influence on government legislation and its contribution to the nation's economic and social stability up to 1959 are examined in relation to the political events of the period as well as the compromises made as SF faced opposition from other sectors of the regime. The second focus of the thesis is SF's ideological base and inner identity, and particularly the degree to which it exhibited features of fascism. This is examined in relation to its elite members, whose belief system was so enduring that it survived the decline of Falangism in the regime. In the face of political realities, SF always saw its 1939 mandate as its own 'Falangist Revolution' and its elite members as capable of transforming society. The origins of these beliefs, the contribution of foreign influences and the transmission of SF ideology in SF's elite academy are analysed in relation to the work and self-image of the elites. The paradox of SF as a loyal supporter of Francoism while challenging the class and social base of the regime is also examined, and religion is shown as the most significant area where SF differed from mainstream opinion and practice. SF's programmes have been studied via primary sources, journals and archive materials. The major primary source, however, is the set of forty-five interviews, conducted principally in Madrid but also in Salamanca, Santiago de Compostela, Palencia, Medina del Campo, Zaragoza, Toledo, the province of Leon and Britain between 1994 and 1999. Interviewees are mainly former elite members of SF together with unaffiliated women, male Falangists and others with experience of SF's programmes.

And it is in crimes with great repercussion with its vast media coverage that it is possible to have a better view of the hindrance which involves “media and justice”. For this reason, the focus of this research are the reports from the maganizes Época, Isto É and Veja which broach the “case Isabella” during the four following weeks of April 2008. This paper investigates how the discourse of such magazines was organized both to receive the juristic system participation through the sources which represent it, and to meet the deadlines of their journalistic productions, when they reported the case Isabella. Based on the methodological approach of the Content Analysis, we analyzed the frequency and the participation of the sources which represent the juristic field in the case Isabella. Moreover, we identified the circumstances in which the weeklies turned to other sources of information in order to deal with the conflict of temporality and the way these sources filled in information gaps produced by the silence of justice. Among our conclusions, it is noticeable that Época magazine searched for official sources that made it be neutral and careful, and also often suggest what should be done in the investigation process. Isto É turned to official sources to gather not only initial but also final information over the investigation process which could assure the guilt of the ones involved in the crime. Veja behaved as if it had all the information over the investigation process and did not have the need to search for them in the discourse of legal agents.

Cockram, Sarah D. P. "The self-presentation and power sharing of Isabella D'Este (Marchesa of Mantua,1490-1539)." Thesis, University of Glasgow, 2007. http://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.518852.

Full text
Abstract:
Isabella d'Este (marches a of Mantua, 1490-1539) has traditionally been studied for her importance as a female patron of art, music, and literature, in research often focussed on one discipline alone. In contrast the patronage of her husband, Francesco Gonzaga (fourth marchese of Mantua, 1484-1519), was largely dismissed until recently. Francesco has also been disadvantaged by the important studies of the late nineteenth-/ early twentieth-century historians Luzio and Renier, who saw the marches a as a talented stateswomen working in contrast to a politically inept husband. Although Francesco's significant cultural contributions have lately been proven, his diplomatic collaboration with Isabella has yet to be reassessed, and their power sharing relationship explored. This study addresses two key needs in Isabellian studies. In analysing Isabella's multifaceted patronage as a political activity, it demonstrates for the first time her comprehensive exploitation of a range of cultural products to promote her authority, projecting virility along with female virtue and fortifying her co-rule. It also shows power sharing in action, with shared human, material, and cultural resources, joint administration and exercise of authority and justice, and common diplomatic policy. In revealing or re-evaluating the Gonzaga response to domestic and international threats, a characteristic strategy emerges: the marchesi apparently dividing fronts, Francesco and Isabella appearing to back different factions in order to regroup behind the strongest. The bias against Francesco's political contribution is rebalanced, and a blueprint for the power sharing of ruling couples is provided, in what future research may reveal to be a far from rare scenario. This study quotes a considerable amount of unpublished archival material, also made accessible to an English-speaking readership through translation of key passages. It sheds light on episodes of intrigue, seduction, and masking, simulation and dissimulation, in court life and diplomacy. Chapter 1 provides a brief biography of the marchesi before giving an introduction to letter writing and epistolary networks. Isabella's self-presentation, projecting an authoritative right to co-rule in an image campaign for dynasty as well as self, is analysed in Chapter 2. In this context are re-evaluated her widespread cultural patronage, and her image making in visual and literary portraiture, through imprese, music, costume, and jewellery. The couple's power sharing is then illustrated. Chapter 3 shows that rather than being isolated the marchesi's activities and resources were to a great extent shared. The three opening chapters give an overview of trends and the remainder of the Thesis shows teamwork in action. Chapters 4 and 5 examine the influence of outsiders on the couple's relationship, including Francesco's possible sexual liaisons. Chapter 4 questions Isabella's role in the elimination of threats to her authority; Chapter 5 provides evidence of the marchesi dividing fronts, with each placating courtiers the other had offended. The final two chapters reveal cooperation in response to international threats. Chapter 6 shows Francesco and Isabella working together against the machinations of the Borgia. Chapter 7 considers the later years of the couple's co-rule and demonstrates continued power sharing despite periods of strain, as when Francesco was a prisoner of the Venetians or when Gonzaga/Este family interests clashed.
