Abstract:
Background: While entrepreneurship is now seen as an important focus in Egypt to elevatepoverty and improve the economic status, a strong and coherent entrepreneurialecosystem is necessary to achieve this. The Egyptian ecosystem is lacking a lotof principal elements such as access to finance, proper entrepreneurialeducation, and a culture that supports entrepreneurship. Developmentorganizations, whose aim is to sustainably develop the society, have recentlyjoined the Egyptian entrepreneurial ecosystem, equipped with funding, knowledge, and capacity. They aim to contribute to the Egyptian entrepreneurialecosystem and support entrepreneurship as a mean for sustainable development. Purpose: Despite their promising role, development organizations have not beenemphasized in the literature on entrepreneurial ecosystems. This could bereturned to the fact that most of the research on ecosystems is done in the contextof developed countries. Our aim is to shed light on the new role of developmentorganizations in the Egyptian ecosystem, explore what they offer toentrepreneurs, understand their impact, and analyze how they can improve theecosystem further. Method: The study is conducted through a multiple case study approach. Data is collectedthrough in-depth interviews with 21 employees and entrepreneurs from 3different development organizations in Egypt Conclusion: The results show that development organizations have a massive impact on theentrepreneurial ecosystem in Egypt. On the Isenberg model, developmentorganizations have the highest impact on market, support, and finance. Whilethey already impact culture and human capital, more emphasis needs to be puton these two domains to improve the mindset of entrepreneurs and the differentplayers in the ecosystem. Development organizations do not contribute to thepolicy domain since its mostly dominated by the government.

Abstract:
Beginning in 1848, the circum-Pacific world experienced dozens of gold rushes; they punctuated the histories of the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Although individual prospectors dominate the national narratives of gold rushes, by the mid-1850s, industrial mining technologies had largely replaced individual miners with their pans and shovels. Notable among these industrial technologies was hydraulic mining, which used high-pressure water hoses to flush large amounts of gold-bearing gravel into sluice boxes saturated with mercury. Industrial mining technologies were portable—engineers who perfected hydraulic mining in California exported the practice to Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. Hydraulic mining exacted startling environmental costs: floods, deforestation, erosion, and toxic pollution. This chapter is by Andrew Isenberg.

Abstract:
Newman declared Knowles as the only adult educator who provided an andragogical means to assess the needs of adult learners. Isenberg provided a breakthrough framework for bringing together the interaction of theoretical and practical aspects of andragogical and internet learning. Zollar and Harrison concluded that Knowles' expanding upon his earlier work propelled the movement of the differences between individual adult and child learners. Boucouvalas underscored, clarified, and strengthened Knowles' andragogical emphasis being on organizational as well as individual learning. Vodde's research on police preparation found better results with using Knowles' andragogy than with using pedagogy. Henschke discovered the same with Brazilians in 30 corporations. Henry's dissertation on Knowles was number eight and was published later as a history of Knowles' thought. Brights and Mahdi's andragogical research in Iraq fostered and secured long-term peace and stability. This chapter explores all of this.

Abstract:
This study is going to focus on the Algerian entrepreneurship ecosystem by adopting an investigation approach to explore the efficiency of the entrepreneurship process and actions. A proper survey has been conducted among several Algerian entrepreneurs to understand the national entrepreneurial ecosystem: environment, financial capacity, collaboration with the external environment, innovation capacity, etc. This chapter reports the findings of entrepreneurship ecosystem concerning the six entrepreneurship-related domains described by Isenberg to identify and develop. Results show that Algerian efforts still need a lot of enrichment due to the importance of the issue and the need for environmental and technological changes in the country. These changes should be substantially generated depending on the nature of entrepreneurship and should require the necessity of keeping up with these changes especially when shaping strategies and policies to address these challenges.

Abstract:
Savicevic provided a critical consideration of fairly scientific andragogical concepts in 10 European countries, five each eastern and western. Knowles provided the most articulate American conception of andragogy with six assumptions and eight process elements, tested and refined with 12 entities. Knowles was criticized by Welton for neglecting democratic social action and Hartree failing his promise. Knowles' andragogy was supported from Long seeing its vibrant strength, Griffith on practice, Tough on warmth, Maehl on advocacy of learners, Isenberg on connecting internet learning, and Houle on learner-centeredness. Lindeman was the first to bring andragogy to the USA. Kessels and Peoll brought together such things as andragogy, self-directed learning (SDL), learning organization, and learning in the workplace. Merriam et al. suggested andragogy be replaced with ‘transformative learning' as the new andragogy. Henschke and Boucouvalas updated and published Malcolm's autobiographical journey. This chapter explores all of this.

Abstract:
Lindeman published the first andragogy idea in America. It was later that Knowles got serious with andragogy by engaging numerous practitioners in successfully applying andragogy in 33 different groups within seven educational and societal categories. Henschke's Modified Instructional Perspectives Inventory (MIPI) helped substantiate Drinkard's finding that nurses schooled in an andragogy doctoral program are more trusting of students than nurses doctoral educated in nursing. The MIPI was used successfully in 30 doctoral dissertations. Bellamio from Xerox Corporation in Italy was a force in applying andragogy with Italian HRD professionals. Isenberg coupled andragogy with internet learning. Henschke successfully applied andragogy between 1985 and 2009 with 1,128 Brazilian adult educators in 28 workshops within 21 states in 36 entities. LeNoue et al. vigorously asserted that in a world increasingly characterized by digital connectivity, lifelong learning requires andragogues specialized in digitally mediated learning environments. This chapter explores all of this.

Abstract:
Entrepreneurship plays a significant role in national economies around the world, including the Republic of Zimbabwe, which has largely focused on the socio-economic devolution program. The necessity for entrepreneurship and policymakers around the world currently is to advance the quality of the entrepreneurship outcomes rather than just increase the number of entrepreneurs. To strengthen the context of entrepreneurship and innovation, the authors suggested that governments need to move to what is called an entrepreneurial ecosystem approach. Isenberg's model for the entrepreneurial ecosystem is applied as a catalyst for building a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem under circular economies.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the inter-relationships between government policy and higher education in the development of entrepreneurship in Oman. Grounded in Isenberg's entrepreneurship ecosystem framework, the role of higher education in driving entrepreneurialism, as a distinct subset of ‘education capital', is examined in the context of policy development and implementation in Oman. Interviews are utilised to gain insights into government initiatives deployed in the Omani higher education sector to develop indigenous entrepreneurs. Findings point to a dislocation between the approaches adopted in Omani higher education institutions and the context in which they have been employed. This is evidenced through three emergent themes: a desire for ‘joined-up' policy on entrepreneurship, the role of higher education institutions in encouraging entrepreneurship, and the challenge of work preference. The study concludes that a lack of holistic appreciation of the entrepreneurial ecosystem precludes the emergence of entrepreneurship as a driver of sustainable economic development in Oman.

In ASME 2008 Summer Bioengineering Conference. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2008. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/sbc2008-192583.

Abstract:
Tissue engineering provides a means to create fully functional tissue-equivalents that can grow, repair and remodel in vivo. Our laboratory’s approach to fabricating artery- and heart valve-equivalents utilizes cell-seeded fibrin gels. However, even after 4–5 weeks of static incubation, the mechanical properties of these constructs are below those of native tissue. Previous studies in our laboratory have shown a significant role of mechanical stretching in improving properties of collagen-based tissue constructs (Isenberg and Tranquillo, 2003). We examined the effects of cyclic distention (CD) of cell-seeded fibrin-based tubular constructs (TC) and valve-equivalents (VE) after five weeks of culture. We used human dermal fibroblasts and porcine valve interstitial cells as the cell sources. Circumferential strain amplitudes from 2.5% to 15% were applied to evaluate the effects of CD on remodeling of the TC. We further hypothesized that during long-term conditioning, cells adapt to CD of constant strain amplitude, diminishing the remodeling into tissue. We tested this hypothesis by applying step-wise incremental CD (ICD) from 5%–15% strain amplitude and compared this group to a set of samples subject to CD of constant strain amplitude in this range. Based on the outcome of the cyclic distension study with tubular constructs, we applied CD to VE in a novel bioreactor.
