Abstract:
This study uses citation analysis from two citation tracking databases, Google Scholar (GS) and ISI Web of Science, in order to test the correlation between them and examine the effect of the number of paper versions on citations. The data were retrieved from the Essential Science Indicators and Google Scholar for 101 highly cited papers from Malaysia in the field of engineering. An equation for estimating the citation in ISI based on Google scholar is offered. The results show a significant and positive relationship between both citation in Google Scholar and ISI Web of Science with the number of versions. This relationship is higher between versions and ISI citations (r = 0.395, p<0.01) than between versions and Google Scholar citations (r = 0.315, p<0.01). Free access to data provided by Google Scholar and the correlation to get ISI citation which is costly, allow more transparency in tenure reviews, funding agency and other science policy, to count citations and analyze scholars’ performance more precisely.

Abstract:
This paper examines the growth and development of the literature of “environmental communication” research. The paper collects citations of all papers matching specified keywords covering environmental communication topics in the social science journal literature from relevant indices. The indices used were: the Institute for Scientific Information's (ISI) Social Sciences Citation Index (Web of Science), the ISI Arts and Humanities Citation Index (Web of Science), Communication Abstracts, PsycINFO, Anthropological Literature, Sociology Abstracts and Periodical Abstracts (Pro-Quest Direct). The paper analyzes the collected citations for journal of publication, date, and frequency of publication by year, author, and keywords and topics. The paper shows what topics of attention, what fields, and what journals have been interested in publishing environmental communication research, and some of the authors leading the way. In addition, basic topics of interest for environmental communication research are discerned. The literature review shows the need for a more centralized point of publication for environmental communication research.

Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to evaluate two pearl growing methods in ISI Web of Science. The methods tested are Find Related Records FRR, an automatic service that uses bibliographic coupling, and Author Keywords AK, where searches are performed using the two first keywords from this field. Both search methods were used on twenty initial documents and the first twenty hits were evaluated for relevance using a binary scale 0,1. The relevance criteria were based on specific information needs connected to every initial document. The measures used to evaluate the effectiveness of the search methods were Precision at DCV=10, P10, and Uninterpolated Average Precision AP. Wilcoxons signed rank test was used to evaluate if there were any significant differences between the two methods. The results showed that FRR achieved the highest average values for both P10 and AP. However, neither of the methods excelled in effectiveness, something that the Wilcoxons test corroborated. When it comes to FRRs results one could state that bibliographic coupling does not always perform well when a specific information need is requested. One reason for AKs results is that keywords can be too wide or too narrow and consequently affect the retrieval of information. If a search starts with a relevant initial document, pearl growing can be a useful search method, especially if both FRR and AK are combined.<br>Uppsatsnivå: D

Abstract:
Our increasing ability to construct large and complex computer and information systems suggests that the classical manner in which such systems are understood and architected is inappropriate for the open and unstructured manner in which they are often used. With the appearance of mathematically complex and, more importantly, high scale, non-deterministic systems, such as the World Wide Web, there is a need to understand, construct and maintain systems in a world where their assembly and use may not be precisely predicted. In Addition, few have thus far attempted to study such Web-scale systems holistically so as to understand the implications of non-programmable characteristics, like emergence and evolution – a matter of particular relevance in the new field of Web Science. This collection of prior published works and their associated commentary hence brings together a number of themes focused on Web Science and its broader application in systems and software engineering. It primarily rests on materials presented in the book The Web’s Awake, first published in April 2007.

Abstract:
<p> The objective of this thesis was to explore the topic of scalable web development, and it answered the question, &ldquo; How do you scale a website to handle more traffic at peak times without wasting resources?&rdquo; This is important research to any web company that has issues with rising costs as demand for their website increases. It would be wise for every online business to be prepared for more web traffic, before it occurs, without spending the budget of a multi-million user web company in low traffic periods. The last thing you want is an error as your customer base starts to arrive, giving them a bad experience for their first impressions, which would result in lost revenue.</p><p> Scalable software development architectures, including microservices, big data, and Kubernetes were studied, in addition to similar web service companies including Facebook, Twitter, and Match.com. A scalable architecture was designed for a social media web service, MeAndYou, using the big data configuration with a shared Aurora database, which was configured using an auto-scaling group attached to a load balancer in Amazon Web Services (AWS). It was tested using a custom threaded Selenium-based Python script that applied simulated user load to the servers. As the load was applied, AWS added more Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instances running a virtual disk image of the web server. After the load was removed, the instances were terminated automatically by AWS to save costs.</p><p> Countless steps were taken to make the web service bigger and more scalable than it originally was, before testing, including adding more fields to user profiles, adding more search types, and separating the layers of code into different Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) files in the front-end. A version control system was configured on the servers using GitHub and rsync. The systems architecture designed suggests the Match Engine should use a stream processing message queue, which would allow the system to factor searches one at a time as they are created, with horizontal scaling capabilities, rather than grabbing the entire database and storing it in memory. The backend Match Engine was also tested for accuracy using Structured Query Language (SQL) injection, which determined how the match algorithm should be improved in the future.</p><p>

Abstract:
Includes bibliographical references (leaves 113-116).<br>The growth of the World Wide Web has in large part been made possible by the technologies that power it. These are the Web servers and Web browsers that many take for granted. Each has evolved to support the changing needs of users of the WWW from simple static text to highly interactive and dynamic multimedia. The Web servers, in particular, have evolved into a spectrum of different technologies to support what are now known as Web applications. These are usually installed and accessed through a Web server. Security is a problem in Web server environments and therefore the Web servers are usually run as an un-privileged user. Performance is another problem as some of these technologies require re-initialization of the execution environment with every subsequent request. These security and performance shortcomings have been dealt with by numerous Web application technologies.

Abstract:
Structural equation modeling (SEM), especially partial least squares path modeling (PLS-PM) has become a mainstream method in many fields of research. In the last years it has been increasingly disseminated in a variety of disciplines. The researchers have been promoting this new statistical methods for the evaluation of policies. Generally, policy evaluation applies evaluation principles and methods to examine the content, implementation or impact of a policy. To better understand and characterize this trend, a bibliometric study of international papers on this subject has been developed in order to describe the use of SEM and PLS-PM approaches in the policy evaluation in the almost last 20 years. A total of 450 articles from 2000 to 2020 have been selected and analyzed in order to discover the research trends in this field and the main dimensions and words related to the terms “decision making” and “SEM-PLS” approach, that are most commonly employed in the scientific literature. The research has been conducted in theWeb of Science from ISI Web of Knowledge database and Scopus database, with the aim of identifying the major themes, authors, areas, types of the sources, titles, years of publication and countries of these publications, as well as the main themes related to the two topic analyzed

Abstract:
AbstractOur daily life has experienced significant changes in the Internet age. The emergence of e-science is regarded as a dramatic one for science. Wikis, blogs, virtual social networks, grid computing and open access are just a brief selection of related new technologies. In order to understand the changes, it is necessary to define these aspects of e-science precisely. Right now, no generally used term or common definition of e-science exists, which limits the understanding of the true potential of the concept. Based on a well-known approach to science in terms of three dimensions—human, task and technology—the author provides a framework for understanding the concept which enables a distinctive view of its development. The concept of e-science emerged in coherence with the technological development of web 2.0 and infrastructure and has reached maturity. This is impacting on the task and human dimensions as in this context, the letter “e” means more than just electronic.

Abstract:
AbstractScholars are only beginning to understand what digitization means for their work, that is, the conduct of science. Taking a broad perspective on e-science, this paper provides empirical insights about two important aspects of the digitization of science, namely the use of digital tools in scholarly activities and scholars’ perceptions of the change such use entails. The results of a German-wide survey of scholars and supplementary qualitative interviews in the years 2012 and 2013 show that the majority of scholars have adopted digital tools and that scholarly practice is affected profoundly by the use of such tools. This does not apply to web 2.0 tools, which remain a niche medium for some scholars. Small but significant differences exist between disciplines, and decisions about individual tool use are utilitarian. Further research is needed to assess the changes from a longitudinal perspective.

Abstract:
Abstract:
The modern development of science and technology has provided high quantity of information. This information must be systemized and classified. For taxonomization of educational materials, it was proposed to use existing graph-generators and graph-visualizers of the TODOS IT platform. A separate aspect of the TODOS IT platform is the possibility of using a centralized web-oriented learning environment. Creation of the system and transdisciplinary knowledge is a problem of modern education, which can be solved by creating a centralized web-oriented educational environment. Using this approach is an important part of the learning process. Such a centralized web-oriented environment based on the ontological approach involves filling, adaptive educational services with information resources that reflect the conceptual system of a particular discipline. One of the systems providing not only collection of information but include its systemizing is centralized web-oriented educational environment based on Ontology4 system. Ontology 4 use elements of the TODOS. The paper presents specific developments of one centralized web-oriented educational environment can be used to teach different subjects such as biology, chemistry, Ukrainian language and literature, using the STEM approach.

Langlais, Pierre-Carl. Open Science Infrastructure. Comité pour la science ouverte, 2023. https://doi.org/10.52949/75.

Full text
Abstract:
Open Science infrastructure plays a fundamental role in research. Large ecosystems of interconnected scholarly infrastructures have emerged in Europe, South and North America since 2000, through the development of new open science projects and the conversion of legacy infrastructures to open science principles. In 2021 the Unesco described Open Infrastructures as “shared research infrastructures that are needed to support open science and serve the needs of different communities” and acknowledged them as one of the four pillars of Open Science. The landscape of open infrastructure is significantly decentralized. While a few very large actors exist, most infrastructures have a small size and rely on limited costs (less than €50,000 per year). While diverse, the ecosystem is still highly integrated: most infrastructures belong to a wider ecosystem of scholarly commons, with privileged interaction through free services (ORCID, Datacite), free software (OJS) or open knowledge projects (Wikidata). Open science infrastructure became technically feasible after the creation of the World Wide Web. While scientific computing infrastructures have been developed since the 1960s, they were generally inaccessible to their end users. Electronic diffusion of articles, databases and other scientific outputs quickly developed after 1990, which stirred increasing concerns on the sustainability of online research projects. After this initial period of rapid and uncontrolled expansion, the 2000s saw a movement of consolidation, as large projects were able to secure recurrent fundings. Numerous initiatives have been taken after 2015 to better define, support and protect open science infrastructures, as large commercial publishers have begun acquiring critical common infrastructures such as open repositories. The Principles for Open Scholarly Infrastructure laid influential recommendations on sustainability, collaborative governance and the funding of open infrastructures, based on the theory of common-resource management of Elinor Ostrom. They have influenced in turn major reports, policies and initiatives. By 2022, major historical scientific infrastructures have endorsed open science as an integral part of their activity and identity. It has become an essential topic of debate for the future of research along with the conversion of the publishing system: in 2021, a collective of researchers called for a Plan I or Plan Infrastructure in reaction to the plan S of the cOAlition S.
