Abstract:

I looked at the restoration of Santa Cruz Island National Park to examine the interconnected relationship between nature and culture in the United States. I conducted literature research on the changes in conceptual construction and environmental policy, and grounded my analysis in interviews I conducted with National Park Employees involved in the Primary Restoration Plan. Through the language of their responses, I analyzed how specific words, process and possibility, affect the restoration and consequently our concept of nature.

In 1742, the settlement of Augusta was established as an outpost of English royalization on Roatán Island, Honduras. This military camp housed a mix of English soldiers, English colonists, and local indigenous Miskitu peoples. Dental annuli analyses were performed on 170 ringed seal (Phoca hispida) canines recovered from five Thule semisubterranean houses located at site PaJs-13 at Hazard Inlet, Somerset Island in the central Canadian Arctic. Season of death results indicate greater seal hunting during the spring. This study attempts to demonstrate symbolic whale bone patterning within 31 Thule winter houses along the southeast coast of Somerset Island, Northwest Territories, Canada. All visible architectural whale bone incorporated within the dwellings was mapped. This work, its task coming from an architectural and urban design competition requested by the city of Prague, gives a proposal of a new definition of the island of Štvanice in Prague. It deals with the problems of incorporating into the urban structure, connection to the main transport routes, functional usage of the island by choosing suiting schedules with urban functions. The proposals of objects, new spatial layout of the public spaces of the island, using the Vltava river's potential, its embankment and cultivation are the main themes of this work.
