Full textA lack of media art in Iceland at the turn of last century, whether electronic or digital, initiated this research. The deficiency encouraged the author to undertake analysis of the history of art in Iceland, at a time when it was becoming independent from Denmark. This period is characterized by the nation's quest of identity, where the definition of cultural particularity dominated the discourse on art. By placing the art of the past in the context of the colony, and modern art in that of the struggle for independence, it is possible to show that the lack of media arts can be explained by the postcolonial situation after the war. Finally, it shows how the isolation of artists was broken in this context. To conclude it examines how the political and cultural institutions have reacted to the globalization of electronic and digital technology that has contributed to change the artistic creation and practices

Full textProteins were studied starting from the19th century by various chemical methods (analytical and organic chemistry, physical chemistry). Our study wants to understand the pplication to these special molecular objects of the more recent concepts and practices of theoretical and computational chemistry. This reconfiguration process of the field of protein chemistry, which we follow between 1960 and 1990, is related to the development of the methods of molecular mechanics and molecular dynamics. We discuss the origins of those methods (IR spectroscopy, stereochemistry of organic molecules and statistical physics of liquids) and the way these methods were applied to the special case of protein macromolecules. During this historical analysis, we precisely study the models and simulations built in the scientific corpus of texts we constituted. To understand the epistemological specificity of this reconfiguration in protein chemistry, we discuss beforehand the concepts of model and simulation, such as they are analyzed in the philosophy of science. The historical analysis mixed with the epistemological analysis then makes il possible to understand how the studied research tradition is built between roblem of calculability and necessary integration to proteinic knowledge previously instituted. We thus describe how a knowledge of theoretical nature could be built in protein chemistry, in the context of a problematic theoretical application and of computational complexity. Our work thus offers a case study on thé impact of thé computer on sciences in second naïf of thé twentieth century

Full textThis dissertation tries to reconstruct the geography, cultures and policies about homosexuals in France and Spain between 1945 and 1975. Through arquives of Brigade Mondaine of Paris and of Courts of Vagos y maleantes, and Peligrosidad y rehabilitación social of Barcelona essentially, this work examines the myth of "liberation" since 1970's. Thus I demostrate that France defended a sexual moral view stricter than Spain and that explains partially the delay in France to grant equal rights

Full textThe participation of women in the 1926-1929 civil war oppossing the mexican state and the catholic church, has so far been neglected by social researchers. The main sources of information about the role women played in this war, have been written by men. In order to unveil the representation and the concepts conveyed about these women and women in general, literary, historiographical and testimonial sources are analysed in this work. While historiographical and testimonial sources do not permit to see the participation of women in the rebellion as a collective answer, coherent with the social circumstances under which women lived, literary sources reduce the historical experiences of these women to a normative feminity outside of which there is nothing but anomaly and transgression regarding the stablished social order. The whole is confronted against the life-stories of women that took active part in the rebellion. Their behavior puts them afar from literary representation as well as from the place historiography has assigned them within the cristero movement. What these women sought, was to afirm themselves in front of men, to obtain recognition for the new spaces of activity opend to them, to confirm their traditional tasks and their place in society
