Quality plan can not only provide guidelines to manufacture quality and construction execution for contractors, but also offer a basis for monitoring and checking of the construction results. Therefore, quality plan has become indispensible for quality management of the public works. ISO 10005 provides guidelines for the development, review, acceptance, application and revision of a quality plan and a supporting standard as well. Quality plan could be elaborated in accordance with ISO 9001. Consequently, the research focuses on ISO 10005:2005 “Quality management systems-Guidelines for quality plans” and carries on the preliminary study of content and explanation. The research supplements to ISO 9001:2008“Quality management systems-Requirements” and the“ Guidelines for quality plans” published by Public Construction Committee, and states the quality plan’s contents and meanings. This research expects to enable those who develop a quality plan and relevant engineers are aware of requirements for a quality plan and conform to the quality management system for construction project. It could improve performance of quality management and promote the corporate image for the contractors and public construction quality through feedback of a quality plan.

Project Quality Management The main purpose is to ensure that the project can meet the needs of projects undertaken. Quality, usually refers to the quality of products. Generalized also includes the construction of quality. Quality is degree to which a set of inherent characteristics fulfils requirements. The construction quality is the product quality assurance. Isto significa que, dada esta importância, é fundamental o recurso a boas práticas e standards que permitam uma gestão eficaz dos serviços de TI. Neste sentido, diversas frameworks de TI têm surgido, nos últimos anos, para apoiar gestores e decisores de TI, não só a melhorar a previsibilidade e performance dos serviços de TI, mas também a alinhá-los com os objectivos de negócio. Um bom exemplo destas frameworks é o ITIL, um conjunto de boas práticas para gestão de serviços de TI muito popular na comunidade e que tem vindo a ser acompanhado, nos últimos tempos, pela implementação de um standard de gestão de serviços de TI - o ISO 20000 - em empresas que desejam alcançar um novo patamar de qualidade na gestão de serviços. A proposta apresentada neste projecto de investigação é, por isso, altamente relevante e assenta na criação de um modelo de maturidade para ISO 20000. Esta é uma ferramenta que permitirá a qualquer organização não só avaliar o nível maturidade dos seus processos actuais de TI, em particular Incident e Service Request Management, mas também obter indicações de como poderá alinhar-se com os requisitos ISO 20000 e obter certificação. In recent years the domestic public works construction, the governmental agency have handled procurement by turnkey increasing day by day. Turnkey projects mainly organized by the company assigned to the joint implementation of projects, and the company engaged a technical advisory role by customers transformed into a turnkey team, this transformation of business pattern has taken the relatively high risk and changed management consultants to the original thought. If the lack of interface in the implementation phase of integration, communication and coordination mechanisms and project management concepts, will affect the executed results and efficiency. Full textO presente relatório pretende apresentar o trabalho desenvolvido durante o estágio curricular integrado no Mestrado em Gestão da Faculdade de Economia da Universidade de Coimbra. O estágio decorreu na empresa ISA – Intelligent Sensing Anywhere, S.A., entre os dias 3 de fevereiro de 2020 e 29 de junho de 2020. Com o aumento da competitividade entre as empresas, torna-se necessário que estas criem valor para o cliente e que respondam eficazmente a situações de insatisfação. As falhas são inevitáveis em qualquer serviço, mas a forma como estas são resolvidas é bastante importante e um fator diferenciador entre muitas empresas. Por vezes a insatisfação de um cliente aparece em forma de reclamação, e estas não podem ser vistas como ameaças, mas sim como oportunidades para a empresa melhorar o seu serviço e processos. Um sistema de gestão de reclamações tem como objetivos manter a lealdade do cliente e minimizar os seus efeitos da insatisfação e utilizar as indicações que surgem das reclamações como oportunidades. O bom acolhimento da expressão insatisfação deve fazer parte de qualquer sistema de reclamações de forma a que os clientes se sintam encorajados em reclamar.Como qualquer outra empresa, também a ISA implementa este tipo de sistema devido a todos os seus benefícios inerentes. A norma que está associada à gestão de reclamações é a ISO 10002, que se trata de um documento que fornece diretrizes para o processo de tratamento de reclamações relacionadas com produtos e serviços dentro de uma organização. Esta norma é importante para uma empresa pois ajuda no processo de tratamento das reclamações. Este trabalho tem como objetivo caracterizar o sistema de gestão de reclamações da ISA e deixar algumas sugestões para a sua melhoria, de forma a obter no futuro ainda maiores níveis de satisfação de clientes.
This report aims to present the work developed during the curricular internship integrated in the master’s in management at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra. The internship took place at ISA - Intelligent Sensing Anywhere, S.A., between February 3, 2020 and June 29, 2020.With the increase in competitiveness between companies, it is necessary that they create value for the customer and respond effectively to situations of dissatisfaction. Failures are inevitable in any service, but how they are resolved is very important and a differentiating factor among many companies. Sometimes a customer's dissatisfaction appears in the form of complaints, and these cannot be seen as threats, but as opportunities for the company to improve its service and processes.A complaints management system aims to maintain customer loyalty and minimize the effects of dissatisfaction and to use the indications that arise from complaints as opportunities. The good reception of the expression dissatisfaction must be part of any complaints system so that customers are encouraged to complain.Like any other company, ISA also implements this type of system due to all its inherent benefits. The standard that is associated with complaints management is ISO 10002, which is a document that provides guidelines for the process of handling complaints related to products and services within an organization. This standard is important for a company as it helps in the complaints handling process. This work aims to characterize ISA's complaints management system and leave some suggestions for its improvement, to obtain even higher levels of customer satisfaction in the future.

The purpose of the thesis is to build the project management office (PMO) operational mechanism that could decrease the consumption of enterprise planning and project development cost. The PMO focuses on the improvement of project management process and the building of project information system. This research employs the process management tool ARIS to implement the ISO 10006 that could help the project manager to have the whole view on the project management and maintain the operation of project management process with the project information system. The research focuses on the setting of ISO 10006 processes and combines the concept of processes with the domain knowledge of project management to construct the process-oriented charts of project management system that include the ISO 10006 using the process management tool ARIS.

Full textIn a business market environment highly marked by competition, standardization has proven to be distinctive to answer challenges. Thus, organizations have been investing in obtaining ISO certifications, being ISO 9001 – Quality management systems one of the most popular. In the current context of market with processes every day more computerized and automatized, to not stagnate in the knowledge already acquired, searching to find new ways to do and create from practices and methodologies already achieved, is showing distinctive for the organizations, not only in the moment of conception of innovative products/services, but also in the moment of making strategic decisions. This empirical study aims to identify the relationship between the implementation of knowledge management practices, the Quality System and organizational performance. That is, it intends to verify if the introduction Knowledge Management principles in the Standard ISO 9001 had effect in the overall organizational performance of the companies. The proposed analysis methodology is supported by the application of a questionnaire to a sample of 36 Portuguese Small and Medium Enterprises, from Rede PME Inovação COTEC. The results of the investigation allowed to infer that knowledge management, while not directly influencing organizational performance, acts as a mediator between the Quality System and performance. That is, within the companies studied, holders of certification in ISO 9001, through the applications of knowledge management practices, shown improvements in the management of the Quality system, with a consequent increase in organizational performance.

They need to be able to demonstrate that they can identify and control food risks and conditions with an impact in food safety. Nowadays, and due to an environment of huge market pressure, Organizations are forced to make constant changes in order to remain competitive and thus survive. In today’s competitive environment, Organizations have to deal with an increasing complexity in the phenomena related to their business. There is a need to have the appropriate means to make decisions and find solutions based on sustainable approaches. All of these aspects must be taken into account when implementing any type of certification, so as to build satisfaction on all concerned parties and, therefore, achieve a performance improvement that leads to sustainable development. The decision to implement and certify food safety systems, namely NP EN ISO 22000:2005 (Food safety management systems) is, nowadays, a strategic decision that may allow for the sustainable and visionary development that Organizations need. There is a growing concern with food safety among companies with an international presence; at the same time, demands from many German, French and Italian retailers and wholesalers reinforce the need to implement specific references, as is the case with IFS Food. This work studies the basic needs for an Organization that, having already implemented NP EN ISO 22000:2005, must now satisfy in order to implement IFS Food, be it due to Customer demand or Organizational strategy. In a preliminary step, the latest IFS Food version, published in January 2012, was studied. Afterwards, an analysis of the comparison elements for both benchmarks was performed (IFS Food vs NP EN ISO 22000:2005), and thus the differences regarding the requirements. Finally, an economical analysis was performed in order to understand the viability of certification implementation.

Full textThe main goal of this project consists of proposing an methodological approach towards the development of Qompetitiveness in companies, based on the strategy map proposed by Robert Kaplan and David Norton, and using the QFD methodology, considering the principals of the standard ISO 9001: 2008. The term proposed: Qompetitiveness means that the concept of quality, proposed by the standard ISO 9001 must be understood as a source of competitive advantage. It’s not new to anyone, that some companies start processes of certification ISO 9001, without a clear idea about the contribution of quality management. For those companies, a certification is an end to achieve, and not an aim to compete towards it’s best. Due to this fact, they start to work towards quality adding a problem to the management: feeding an administrative machine that auto consumes itself. The idea is not exactly that, but due to the lack of clarification of what quality management means, unfortunately, this happens. In its simplest form, without subtracting the rigor towards the concept, we can define quality by the following formula: Q = P/E ≥ 1, in which : Q - is quality; P - is the performance of the company; E - is the clients’ expectations. In other words, the performance of the company, is the result of the operation of its system of processes, that has to overpass the clients’ expectations. It’s in this perspective, that we propose an methodological approach, that fits the best of the three areas of its knowledge strongly connected: the quality management, the formulation and concretization of the strategy (BSC) and the methodology to reach the quality.

Full textO objetivo principal deste projeto é analisar a oferta pública inicial da Flexdeal, SIMFE, SA, confrontando o preço de entrada na bolsa com os valores estimados através dos métodos de avaliação utilizados. A Flexdeal, SIMFE, SA é uma empresa que surge como uma alternativa de financiamento, tendo como principal atividade o investimento em pequenas e médias empresas e também em “mid caps” e “small mid caps”. A Flexdeal, SIMFE, SA é a primeira e única Sociedade de Investimento Mobiliário para Fomento da Economia (SIMFE) em Portugal. Para atingir o objetivo deste projeto foram aplicados três modelos de avaliação: os fluxos de caixa descontados, através da avaliação na ótica da empresa; os múltiplos e o valor económico adicionado. Considerando um horizonte previsional de cinco anos e as projeções realizadas com base no ano histórico de 2018 e no 1º Semestre de 2019, foi possível inferir três diferentes valores por ação. O preço mais baixo foi obtido através da avaliação dos múltiplos, 5,73 euros, já o preço mais elevado resultou da avaliação do valor económico adicionado, 6,43 euros. A avaliação dos fluxos de caixa descontados originou um preço de 6,21 euros. Comparando estes resultados ao preço de fecho de 4,93 euros, a recomendação é comprar.

The main purpose of this study was to explore the factors that handle the customer complaints efficiently, and through the viewpoint of ISO 10002:2004 to investigate the errors, obstacles and misunderstandings during the complaint handling that usually encounter. This study included document analysis, and method of analyzing with a semi-structured interview. Participants in this study are eight experienced overseas sales representatives from the small and medium-sized enterprises. These interviewees expressed their perspectives and experiences toward the customer complaints to communicate, negotiate and then solve the problem in order to reach customer satisfaction successfully. Moreover, the interview is mainly probed into the management, planning, execution, and improvement of how to enhance the internal operation procedure and then boost the efficiency on the complaint handling. For further examination, an observance goes through ISO 10002:2004. Based on the document analysis and the results of the interviews, this study reaches the following conclusions: 1. There are four key elements of efficient complaint handling: promptness, positive attitude, customer focused approach and full participation. 2. The main principle of ISO 10002:2004 is continual improvement not only on the complaint handling, but the product, service quality as well. 3. Justice is positively related with the complaint handling and according justice theory, verify its attributes and elements on the complaint handling.

Full textEste projeto tem como objetivo avaliar o valor da Science4you e, consequentemente, analisar a opção de executar uma estratégia de saída através da emissão de uma OPA (Oferta Pública de Aquisição). De forma a obter um resultado fundamentado, são apresentados os conceitos teóricos necessários dos diversos métodos de avaliação, bem como o histórico geral e financeiro da empresa e da indústria. Os métodos de avaliação utilizados são o Discounted Cash Flow e o Método de Avaliação por Múltiplos. Ao aplicar ambos os métodos, é possível comparar a Science4you com o grupo de pares e ter uma avaliação justificável da empresa. O valor final da empresa resulta da média dos três resultados obtidos, originando um valor de 66 milhões de euros. Também foram apresentadas várias estratégias de saída, tendo sido dado especial ênfase em estudar a possibilidade de emitir uma OPA. Considerando uma capitalização de mercado igual ao valor do acionista, e mantendo o número de ações existentes, os investidores da empresa obteriam um valor por ação de 120€.

Full textO mercado da moda de luxo tem vindo a crescer nos últimos 20 anos, apresentando uma taxa de crescimento anual de 6%, sendo que em 2017 registou um valor superior a 300 mil milhões de dólares. Os continentes americano e europeu são, do ponto de vista geográfico, os principais mercados, representado 65%, ainda que o mercado asiático tenha demonstrado um forte crescimento nos últimos anos, devido ao seu desenvolvimento económico. Em relação aos canais de distribuição, o segmento online do mercado da moda, tem vindo a crescer, impulsionado pelo forte e rápido desenvolvimento tecnológico, sendo que representa 9% do valor total e registou um crescimento anual de 24% de 2016 para 2017. O forte crescimento deste segmento deve-se à mudança geracional que se tem vindo a assistir nos últimos anos, sendo que têm vindo a crescer o número de consumidores da geração Y e Z. Assim sendo, a Farfetch vai aproveitando as oportunidades que este mercado proporciona, para o seu desenvolvimento e crescimento, tendo-se tornado uma empresa cotada na bolsa norte americana NASDAQ. Este projeto visa a avaliação da empresa aquando da sua entrada em bolsa, onde irá ser avaliado o preço por ação através de diferentes modelos e os valores obtidos serão comparados entre eles e com o preço da OPI da Farfetch. Considerando os resultados obtidos, concluiu-se que o valor da OPI de 20 dólares por ação, fica aquém dos valores obtidos pelos modelos de DCF, sendo assim é recomendado a compra das ações ao preço da OPI.

Full textThe concept of Social Responsibility is vast, ambiguous and does not reach consensus among individuals. After reviewing the literature about the evolution of this concept, establishing the different approaches that have been outlined and the alignment of this concept with other ones, such as Sustainable Development, there is still one thing we don’t know: Social Responsibility’s perception. Using the focus group technique, efforts were made in order to assess the perception of a group of individuals. This investigation led to conclude that the multiplicity of approaches, models and theories have helped to increase the noise around this concept. Social Responsibility is still not perceived as a whole system that belongs not only to companies – a fact that reveals that it is central to develop integrated solutions for these concerns and to provide a wider dissemination of the definition, in order to standardize this notion and, above all, to raise the status of Social Responsibility as the best tool to meet the challenges of contemporary societies.

Full textThe main subject of my master’ Project concerns the implementation of a quality management system in Escola Superior de Enfermagem de Lisboa (ESEL). My Project starts with the theory of the main authors regarding quality, since ESEL is an organization that provide services in which quality is a critical factor. It was needed to analyze some implementation issues as tools, costs, strategy for a better understanding of the advantages and difficulties for these quality systems. At the end, these are proposals of quality management system for ESEL. The transformation of an organization requires some fundamental changes in the cultural behavior of the organization. In Quality Management we can consider three areas: Tools (more superficial), the commitment to quality for the customers and the organization culture, the values and principles (the strongest). The changes within the organization can provide better results which will lead to higher levels of satisfaction. The main issue starts with the acceptance of all collaborators. Over the implementation process, the challenges will be harder since everyone of the organization must be aligned with this strategy.

Full textThe ISO 9001 certification does not ensure organizational excellence and conclusions about the benefits and their impacts on organizational performance are contradictory. In this context, we sought to examine whether the joint or integrated ISO 9001 and lean tools/methodologies enhances the expected benefits of quality certification. To this end, we used ISO 9001 and lean thinking as conceptual basis. A questionnaire was developed based on literature review on the benefits of quality management systems and lean tools, to test the hypotheses and propositions developed. This was sent to 4068 companies certified by ISO 9001 in Portugal. 231 responses were obtained, corresponding to 6% of the study population. Data were analysed using simple statistics and parametric and nonparametric tests. The results showed that Portuguese certified companies felt the same benefits reported in the literature. These benefits vary in type and expression, depending on the motivation for certification, age of the certificate and company size. The implementation of lean tools in certified companies caused an average positive increase in all the benefits gained from certification, with values higher than those experienced by the certification on reducing costs and reducing delivery time. The most commonly used tools and the integration of lean tools used with ISO 9001 has similarities with international results.

Full textToday’s global world, result of the fast technological evolution and the development of new products and processes, is characterized by the strong interaction between nations, companies and people. Global trade gains a whole new dimension in light of the exchanges between borders and the economies depend more and more on their international relationships. Standards have the purpose of promoting trade on a large scale, as they establish requirements and create interchangeability between products’ components and processes. Standardization aims to eliminate informational and technical trade barriers that are created, reducing transaction costs. Nevertheless, standards’ range goes beyond trade, reaching other society areas, such as health, security or ICTs (Information and Telecommunications Technology). Due to the volume and reach of standards, there are organizations, such as ISO (International Standards Organization) that dedicate themselves to the development of standards and support the countries on their search of standardization. Standards can be of use, particularly, to developing countries, localized on specific regions of the globe that may have difficulties on participating on global economy, mainly due to their economic, social or political problems. This study seeks to provide information on the propagation of standards as a way of promoting good practices in the companies and analyze standards through a geographic perspective, focusing on the less developed regions. In this study we aim to describe and understand de adoption of standards in several countries of the world and in Portugal as well. Our analysis, on an “inter-national” level (with a focus on developing countries) and on an “intra-national” level (with special attention to the the Portuguese regions that are struggling the most), intends to contribute to learn about the heterogeneities of standardization, that exist on both levels.

Para elaborar esta avaliação serão aplicados os modelos mais usados pelos analistas financeiros como os modelos de Fluxos de Caixa Descontados e os Múltiplos. Para além disto, será analisado o preço da empresa um ano depois da sua venda e verificado se a empresa valorizou ou desvalorizou depois da entrada na Bolsa de Valores. Com este resultado será dada uma recomendação aos investidores para a atitude que devem ter tendo em conta o possível comportamento da ação no mercado no futuro.

Full textIncluded in the mobile applications thematic, this study focusses in assessing the satisfaction of telemedicine mobile application users. The applications selected in the study were the two market leaders in their sector. The prime objective of this study consists in assessing the satisfaction of telemedicine mobile application users in four perspectives, namely acceptance, has a software product, content quality and usage quality. The survey was built upon the metrics defined in the ISO 25010:2011 and 25012:2008, with the objective of gathering data to evaluate the user’s opinion of this type of mobile application and therefore to complete this study. From the results obtained it was possible to verify that the percentage of acceptance of this type of application is 90.3% and a global satisfaction degree of 84.4%. Based in the opinion of the enquiries it was possible to assess future improvements, mainly suggesting doctors in the residence area, medical follow-up after exams and warnings if an exam needs preparation at home (such as fasting,). We conclude a direct connection between the acceptance and the content quality of telemedicine application, being possible to identify that the users consider the content quality has a fundamental factor to accept these applications.

The project’s objective is to know and develop the procedure’s design which, in accordance to EN ISO 9001:2008 standards, aims to detect either non-conform products or services, and to proceed with continually developing the Quality Management Systems. Additionally, having chosen the clinic’s staff perceptions as data collection object, this study aims on one hand to increase their involvement on the Quality Management System, and on the other hand to obtain their support to the process of organizational change in course. The method used for this study was an exploratory case study. The bibliography research done, focused on Quality and on the implementation of Quality Management Systems in healthcare organizations, identified the following as the literature referenced dimensions involved in similar contexts: Organizational Culture and Learning; Reliability/Efficiency; Motivation/Learning; Leadership. These were the conceptual framework bases used on the inquiries, which by means of written questionnaires evaluated those dimensions throughout the clinic. Complementary to the referred questionnaires, one focus group was appointed. This initiative enabled its participants, all being members of the clinic’s staff, to evaluate the existing local conditions along the process of change. These conditions, having identified in the clinic’s context the same dimensions present in the conceptual framework, were paramount to diagnose the process of change and to project the intervention design in the future.

Um número crescente de organizações procuram demonstrar aos seus pares que possuem um modelo de gestão de segurança da informação, através da obtenção da certificação BS 7799-2 (futura ISO 27001). A presente dissertação examina a aplicação dos requisitos desta certificação britânica de gestão de segurança numa organização de pequena dimensão, tendo como finalidade apresentar e discutir uma metodologia de implantação de gestão da segurança da informação, adequada às pequenas e médias organizações.
Information security in organizations is more than a technological issue. To attain higher information security, organizations have to implement technological safeguards, as well as modify their internal procedures and promote the adoption of a security attitude by their employees. Therefore, organizations have to adopt a managerial approach towards security. An increasing number of organizations aimed to demonstrate to their peers that they possess an internal model of information security management through the attainment of the BS 7799-2 certification (future ISO 27001). Full textIn a global and competitive market, the certification of the quality management system has become a crucial element for competitiveness, leadership and continuous improvement of organizations. In this context, the dynamic and consistent application of quality management models helps to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of an organization and to promote its competitiveness. This study aims to characterize and identify the motivations and benefits of certification in quality management system. The data were collected from a survey applied to a sample of Portuguese organizations certified in ISO 9001. The data were analyzed using a statistical software (SPSS 20.0.). The analyses of the results revealed that the organizations surveyed decided for certification of quality management system mainly for internal motives, related to the improvement of: (i) the processes and procedures; (ii) the quality of the product and/or service and (iii) the productivity and/or efficiency. In turn, the organizations considered that the benefits obtained from certification are mainly internal, namely: (i) standardization of processes and procedures and (ii) improvement of quality-consciousness.

Uma análise de conteúdo entre ontologias indicou que havia diferenças mais pronunciadas por ontologias OWL no campo da cibersegurança. Os resultados mostram um aumento da relevância de expressividade para a variabilidade. Além disso, não foram encontradas diferenças em estratégias utilizadas na maioria dos incidentes. O conhecimento das ontologias precisa de ser enfatizado para se entender os fenómenos de qualidade. Além disso, as ontologias são um meio de representar uma área de conhecimento através da sua estrutura semântica e facilita a pesquisa de informações e a integração de dados de diferentes origens, pois fornecem uma base comum que garante a coerência dos dados, categorizados e descritos, de forma normativa. A unificação da informação com o mundo que nos rodeia permite criar sinergias entre entidades e relacionamentos. No entanto, a área de cibersegurança é um dos domínios do mundo real em que o conhecimento é incerto e é fundamental analisar os desafios de escolher a representação apropriada de informações não estruturadas. As vulnerabilidades são identificadas, mas a resposta a incidentes não é um mecanismo automático para se entender e processar textos não estruturados encontrados na web.

Full textThe shipping and mailing services have registered a negative trend in Europe and in Portugal due to a latent substitution of the physical mail for electronic communication channels. On the other hand, besides the volumes decrease on the express and parcels sector, this is considered one of the main sources of potential growth due to e-commerce proliferation. In 2013, as a result of several measures imposed by the European Commission, the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund, the Portuguese Government was obligated to privatize a set of assets held by itself, where CTT was included. In this context, and in CTT’s privatization scenario, the solution defined for this Company was to make an Initial Public Offering (IPO) where the Company would become publicly traded in the Portuguese stock market (EURONEXT Lisbon). The present project intends to analyse and establish analyse and define the range price that should be offered to investors and, subsequently, assess if the share price offered is below the fair price, as argued by several literature The analysis of CTT’s case is based a methodology of establishing the Company’s operation value throughout a discounted cash flow approach and by an analysis of comparable firms and past transactions in the sector. In the present case, there was reached a range price of [€4.5;€7.9] which compares with the range price settled by the Company and its financial advisers [€4.1;€5.5]. With the results obtained and the subsequent stock price evolution on the market, there are evidences that the IPO underpricing phenomenon of CTT’s stock price has occurred.

This activity is high risk and always in their files received high rates of accidents at work, which brings wear the image of companies, irreparable losses and consequent decrease in profits. The quest for business excellence in the nineties is leveraged by the implementation of standards of quality, which has in its proposals of deployment process and the improvement of operational safety. These standards, ISO 9001 (quality of products and processes), ISO 14001 (the waste generated by industry does not degrade the environment) and OHSAS 18001 (brings physical integrity of employees) can make implemented after a "management system Integrated - SGI ", which comes seek to ensure good practice, and consequent reduction of diversion, directly influencing the rates of accidents at work, which for companies Oil reflects how competitive differential. Full textOver the years, quality has provided evidence that it can help companies and national economies to develop themselves in a solid way, turning them into international players. Therefore, it is a viable option to boost growth and progress of the Portuguese business. In this sense, the present work aims to provide a picture of what was the effort that many companies in the metalworking sector have committed to in order to obtain the ISO 9001 certification, by studying the motivating reasons for this initiative, the difficulties and changes experienced, the decisions taken to overcome the obstacles and the evaluation of the process. To this end, the empirical component of the work was based on the responses from the semi-structured interviews conducted with 6 companies of the sector. Thus, the evidence obtained shows that top management plays an important role in ensuring the harmonization of the interests of stakeholders in the process and consequent guarantee of its completion. In addition, companies should be warned about the resulting impact in terms of structure, processes and culture. The main difficulties faced in the process relate to the human factor of the company and its aversion to change and work overload that many employees feel. However, in general, companies consider it a rewarding endeavor.

According to Chemmanur and Fulghieri (1999), this appears when a company intends to raise capital, having to issue a certain number of shares at a certain price. Farfetch is a Portuguese e-commerce platform that gathers and sells clothes and accessories from various brands in the luxury fashion sector. Founded by José Neves, in 2007, it is the first Portuguese company to achieve the status of "unicorn" - a company valued at more than one billion dollars - and the first national technological company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. This case study has as main objective the study of Farfetch's IPO. Full textThe role of venture capital (VC) in the economic development, as entrepreneurship and innovation support, of great importance in the developed financial markets, is still relatively irrelevant in the Portuguese economy. However there are increasing signals of change. In this context this paper provides a current overview of the VC industry in Portugal, using the available statistics as well as an inquiry. Besides generic data this inquiry tried to understand the investment decision-making process, management control and exit strategies Additionally it was developed a case study of a VC backed IPO (Initial Public Offer), not frequent in Portugal and an isolated case considering the evolvement of international venture capitalists. This study shoes a venture capital undeveloped industry, used as an alternative source of financing for mature business expansion or even as a conversion of overdue bank debt, not assuming an active role of innovation and entrepreneurship, due to the bank-oriented characteristics of the financial market. Nevertheless there are evidences of industries development with the entrance of new players, national and foreigners, operating as business angels or venture capitalists. Regarding the decision-making process, there are similarities with more upfront markets, specifically the existence of a well-structured process, with common phases and critical decision factors. The management control and exit strategies evidence typical characteristics of undeveloped industries, with a passive presence in management of the participated company and trade-off or repurchase agreements as main exit vehicles.

Full textO presente trabalho teve como objectivo avaliar o desempenho da actividade de capital de risco no Brasil num período bastante conturbado da actividade a nível mundial. Visto que o Brasil é actualmente uma das principais economias emergentes no mundo, e que a actividade de capital de risco neste país tem evoluído de uma forma bastante positiva (Enest&Young, 2011) o estudo desenvolvido permitiu avaliar não só a evolução dos fundos que estão implementados no mercado Brasileiro, mas também entender os principais factores que conduziram a este crescimento. Através deste trabalho foi também possível comparar o crescimento do capital de risco com a evolução do principal índice bolsista no Brasil (IBOVESPA) com o intuito de se poder parametrizar o nível de risco face às duas alternativas estudadas. Os resultados obtidos sugerem que a actividade de capital de risco no Brasil apresentou um comportamento ligeiramente superior ao do IBOVESPA, sendo que a principal nota de destaque prende-se com o facto de os fundos de capital de risco, em média, terem apresentado um risco bastante inferior ao do mercado bolsista. Assim sendo o presente estudo revela-se importante para que esta nova realidade do capital de risco no mercado Brasileiro possa ser conhecida em toda a sua plenitude por todos os investidores que tenham interesse no mercado Brasileiro.

Além disso, este papel explora com o Lean tem sido progressivamente aplicado a uma PME, se há espaço para melhorias e como podem ser alcançadas. Finalmente, este trabalho procura perceber se o Lean pode fazer parte do sistema de gestão. Metodologia: Esta investigação foca-se numa PME em Portugal, a qual opera na indústria de refrigeração. Foi utilizada uma metodologia qualitativa na elaboração deste trabalho e foi suportada com um estudo de caso. Foi colecionada informação através de entrevistas gravadas e documentação fornecida pela empresa. Conclusões: Concluiu-se que é possível implementar Lean numa PME, apesar das dificuldades encontradas. Ainda, baseado na literatura e práticas encontradas na empresa foram sugeridas melhorias como implementar Lean. Concluindo, o Lean mostrou-se crucial para implementar com sucesso um sistema de gestão de qualidade, integrado no sistema de gestão. Implicações de Investigação: Este trabalho mostra que PMEs também podem implementar processos e técnicas Lean. Esta conclusão é muito importante para os académicos e para os práticos, particularmente em empresas industriais. Originalidade/Valor: Existe um gap na literatura no que toca à aplicação de Lean em PMEs. Muito pouca investigação é está feita nesta matéria. Este trabalho mostra que PMEs podem implementar técnicas Lean com sucesso.

Full textA sobrevalorização dos IPO’s após a entrada em Bolsa é um tema que desperta desde há muito o interesse de académicos e investidores mais informados. São diversos os estudos e explicações que surgem para justificar o facto das empresas muitas vezes se sujeitarem a colocar as suas acções no mercado a um preço substancialmente inferior ao que os investidores estariam dispostos a pagar. Neste Caso, para além de se analisar o underpricing aplicado à Martifer, pretende-se ao mesmo tempo entender a decisão das empresas em proceder à abertura do seu capital ao público em geral e explanar as vantagens e desvantagens que advêm desta operação. Este trabalho enuncia também as diversas exigências e procedimentos que esse “passo” acarreta para uma Empresa. A escolha da Martifer, teve como intuito compreender o percurso que as empresas que têm a pretensão de alcançar o sucesso e marcar a diferença nas suas áreas de negócio, devem prosseguir de modo a alcançar esses mesmos objectivos. Esse trajecto passa nomeadamente pela expansão das suas áreas de negócio, pela internacionalização e muitas vezes pelo recurso ao mercado de capitais. Com a elaboração deste Caso, concluiu-se que apesar do underpricing ser uma realidade, esta performance inicial não explica o desempenho que se vem a verificar no longo prazo.
The over-valuation of the IPO’s, after admittance to the market constitutes a theme of high interest to academics and to the most informed investors. There are several studies and explanations which try to justify the fact that companies, many times face the placement of its shares in the market for a substantially lower price than the one the investors would be willing to pay. In this Case Study we will analyse the underpricing of Martifer and at the same time, we will try to understand the company’s decision to open its share capital to the public and explain the advantages and disadvantages that rise from this operation. This work also states the several requirements and procedures which the company is bound to fulfil in order to make such a step. The choice of using Martifer for this Case Study, was made for the purpose of allowing the understanding of the path that companies which want to achieve success and make the difference on their business areas have to undertake in order to reach their goals. Such path generally involves the expansion of its business lines, internationalization and in most cases, the resource of the capital market. The execution of this study allowed us to conclude that, even though underpricing is a reality, the share’s initial performance does not explain is long term performance.

O desempenho bolsista dos IPOs foi analisado através de uma amostra de 22 OPVI listadas na Bolsa de Valores de Lisboa e Porto (BVLP) entre Janeiro de 1993 e Fevereiro de 2001. Encontrou-se uma rendibilidade inicial positiva e uma rendibilidade a prazo ajustada pelo PSI Geral tendencialmente negativa. Na análise da performance operacional dos IPOs compararam-se as médias de vários indicadores (3 anos antes, durante e 3 anos depois) de 17 empresas introduzidas na BVLP, entre 1 de Janeiro de 1990 e 31 de Dezembro de 2002. Não se detectaram diferenças significativas em relação à amostra total, já o mesmo não se passa quando se divide a amostra em subgrupos. Por último, analisou-se a eficiência informacional do mercado accionista português, através do estudo das rendibilidades anormais em torno dos anúncios de resultados para a totalidade de dados existentes na I/B/E/S. Verificou-se a persistência de rendibilidades anormais na janela anterior ao evento e no dia 0 (i.e. no dia anterior ao anúncio ser efectuado). Pelo que se conclui pela não eficiência do mercado em termos informacionais. Detectou-se ainda que o mercado português apresenta um efeito de optimismo de previsões relativamente aos Resultados, Dividendos e “Cash Flow” por Acção.
This study deals with the efficiency of the Portuguese Stock market in its semi-strong form, based on the performance of IPOs and in the analysis of the effects of earnings announcements on market prices. The analysis of the performance of IPOs was done through a sample of 22 new listed companies during January 2001 up to February 2001. The outcomes point to a positive initial return (due to underpricing) and a negative market adjusted return in the long run. In order to analyse operating performance the average (3 years before; during; and 3 years after) of several indicators was compared for a sample of 17 IPOs, listed in BVLP between January 1990 and December 2002. There are no differences except when partial samples are considered. The information efficiency of the market was also tested, through the study of cumulative abnormal returns around earnings announcements, considering all the information available on I/B/E/S on that subject. There are abnormal returns before the announcement date, and exactly on the last trading day before the announcement. That fact seems to point out that the market is not efficient in informational terms. There is also evidence of the existence of forecast optimism for Earnings per share, dividends per share and cash flow per share.

Full textNowadays, we live in a world where technology is tied to a person's everyday life and football is the sports king for which billions of spectators fall in love. However, football lives in a parallel world, the world of professionalism where there are millions and millions of euros involved, due to marketing, sponsorships, but above all due to the huge financial investments made by investors in professional clubs. However, in the world of amateur and training clubs they are trying to survive due to the financial difficulties they face daily and thus have no technological means to improve their working conditions, specifically and focused on the scouting process. In the current context of amateur and training football, we have proposed and developed a system that can be used for the scouting process. This system allows to record the actions of a particular player in a distributed way, that is, there may be more than one user observing/analyzing the same player and thus reducing possible registration errors. Subsequently, the collected records will be stored in the database, resulting in statistical data that can be consulted by users. What's more, this system, which is free of charge, allows amateur and training clubs to enjoy it at no additional cost, making it an additional and valuable tool for the recruitment and selection department.

For this template to be easily accepted by auditors and audited, we propose the use of a reference set of control standards and methodologies specially conceived to assess information technology environments, such as, CobiT® 4.1, ITIL® V3 and ISO/IEC 27002. Therefore, this research will be based on three pillars: I. The State of the Art: a. Data Warehouse The components of this architecture are the primary object of evaluation; b. Internal Control and Audit Means to achieve optimum performance of a DW; c. IT Governance Summary of the most recent and international accepted best practices to control and manage IT environment II. Development of a framework to assess the DW internal control, all its components and stages III. Model validation through a case study comprising an internal auditory action to a Financial Institution Data Warehouse environment The research findings will focus on the advantages that organizations may obtain from using a specific template to assess and control the Data Warehouse management.
