Abstract:
Martin Ivarsson, manager and part owner at Landeryd’s Mechanical Workshop (LMW), Landeryd, Sweden, initiated this project. This because of a new released ISO 9001 version that LMW has to implement before the 15th of September 2018 to remain certified. Since LMW is ISO 9001:2008 certified the project members only needed to identify the differences among the 2015 and 2008 version to see what LMW has to do to get certified. There are approximately 1.1 million ISO 9001 certificates issued worldwide. An ISO 9001 certification increase organizations ability to satisfy customer needs and customers can rely on that the products and services provided are of consistently good quality. ISO 9001 can also work as a tool to streamline the organization’s processes and make them more efficient. Since the ISO 9001 is reviewed every five year it helps organizations to keep current in an ever- changing world. Landeryd’s Mechanical Workshop has been ISO 9001 certified since 2002 and the “ISO- think” is deeply rooted within the company. LMW is a small owner-controlled company with only 18 employees. ISO 9001:2015 is applicable on different kinds of organizations in various scales. Comparing to previous versions of ISO 9001 the new version is more adaptable. This makes it more beneficial for the organizations but harder for the auditors that certifies. One major conclusion is that LMW will have more freedom of document handling with the new ISO version. This report highlights LMW’s status today in accordance to the new ISO 9001 version, and estimates how much effort that is needed for a successful revision. Readers of this report will benefit from the results, since much is applicable on all types of organizations or companies.

Abstract:
This report is written as a thesis for a degree of master. In this report you can read about increasing demands from customers that want their suppliers to be certified by some type of standard, like ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. ISO 9001 is a standard of requirements for implementing a quality management system within an organisation and is built on seven main principles which the organization need to fulfil. ISO 14001 is a standard of requirements for implementing an environmental management system and is like ISO 9001 built on seven main principles. Implementation and the work with the standards are based of the PDCA-cycle. The thesis is made together with AGES Kulltorp AB, a company based in Kulltorp, Värnamo. They supply diecasted and machined products in aluminium and has realised that they are in need to get certified by ISO 14001 and needs an effectivization of their quality management system according to ISO 9001. To be able to implement a standard of this kind, it requires an involved, determined management team and an acceptance that work will be time and resource consuming. The organizations shall also be able to accept changes and the employees must be motivated and empowered to simplify the implementation. This report determines most of the theories from academic work by the practical work of updating the whole management system at AGES Kulltorp to fulfil all the requirements of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. This report will also state what type of documents and routines that is required for the quality and environmental management system. The report will also describe how AGES Kulltorp made their journey against effectivisation of ISO 9001 and certification of ISO 14001. The survey that were performed at AGES Kulltorp expose most of the internal obstacles that the company must work with to be able to fully implement the management system to the organization.

Abstract:
Since ISO 9000 was introduced in 1987 the number of organisations in developed and developing countries with ISO 9000 certification is increasing dramatically. Up to the end of 2006, the number of ISO 9001:2000 certified organisations reached 40,909 in the UK and 44,883 in the USA. Within Arab countries the number reached 1,928 in Egypt, 710 in Saudi Arabia and 1,040 in the United Arab Emirates. In Libya, however, this number up to the end of 2006 was only 46 and, according to the results of the conducted preliminary interviews of this study, the number of certified Libyan Manufacturing Companies (LMCs) up to the end of September 2007 was only 7 companies which is, relatively, a very low number. Accordingly, this thesis aims to "investigate the critical success factors (CSFs) affecting the implementation of ISO 9001:2000 in Libyan manufacturing companies'". A comprehensive review of literature was carried out to identify the critical success factors affecting the implementation of ISO 9001:2000 that were experienced by different organisations around the world, including its key aspects. The summarized factors were subsequently used in the empirical investigation of the relevant factors in LMCs. The employed research methodology involved the adoption of a quantitative approach, a survey strategy, utilising a self-administrated questionnaire method. All 7 certified companies were included in the survey. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analysis the data using appropriate statistical techniques. The survey findings revealed that LMCs experienced many factors, these mostly being the same as those experienced by other companies in different countries. There was a relative degree of difference in the importance. These factors as identified in this study are presented in five groups. These groups in descending order are: management and people involvement, culture, training, communication, and support mechanism. The most critical success factor for ISO 9001:2000 implementation in LMCs is represented in the management and people involvement group which is the "top management commitment" factor. The study, therefore, contributes to the existing body of knowledge in the quality management discipline and fills the gap in knowledge in Libyan studies. Recommendations for further research also have been derived from this research.

Abstract:
ISO 9001: 2015 is the latest edition of the Quality Management System from the International Standard Organization. One of the most noticeable changes about the new edition is the emphasis on risk-based thinking. This study introduces a template for developing a Quality Manual and a systematic approach to Risk Assessment using a risk-based decision-making framework embedded in the Quality Management System. An extensive discussion on decision-making, risk and opportunity analysis is provided with the aim of developing a seamless integration between QMS, risk analysis, and decision-making. This study proposes a decision-making framework that aligns ISO 9001 requirements with the decision-making process. The proposed decision-making methodology is aimed specifically at product and service selection. A case study is used to demonstrate the methodology.

Abstract:
Thesis (MTech (Quality))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2017.
The diffusion of a Quality Management System (QMS) to improve business performance depends upon the quality management strategy used. The aim of Eskom’s QMS strategy was to create a sustainable quality drive throughout the company to improve customer and stakeholder satisfaction. This research project’s objective is to determine how the diffusion of a QMS can improve the electricity supply industry in the Western Cape division of the electricity sector in South Africa. The key research objectives within the research study are:  to assess what effect a QMS has on a sustainable long-term solution for energy supply;  to assess how a QMS contributes to the establishment of world class processes and practices;  to determine how a QMS affects quality culture;  to determine what factors of a QMS play a role in a continual improvement process, and  to determine what barriers affect a sustainable QMS implementation. The research question is: “how can the diffusion of a QMS bring improvement to the electricity supply industry?” A quantitative research methodology was employed in the study. The responses to a survey questionnaire were analysed and conclusions were drawn. The research finding is that diffusion of a QMS improves the electricity industry by positively affecting attitudes towards the challenge of securing a sustainable long-term energy supply, improving processes and practices, engendering a quality culture and contributing towards continual improvement. At the same time, certain barriers to the implementation of a sustainable QMS were identified.

Abstract:
There is a growing tendency in the application of the quality management system to the construction industry. Within this perspective, some quality management standards, like ISO 9001, are utilized to assure the quality in projects. Application of this system to water resources projects is also of importance since they are very large systems having various components for which quality management would improve the overall efficiency. The aim of this thesis is to examine the implementation of the quality management in the design and construction processes of a sample irrigation network in order to evaluate its benefits by the cost of quality, which is assumed to be the most effective performance measure. To this end, the prevention and appraisal costs and failure costs, which constitute the cost of quality, are identified separately and their interactions are investigated on a case study in which the causes of these failures are analyzed and quantified in the form of graphs.

Abstract:
The management of quality is a consideration in all industries. The ISO 9000 standard defines a management system framework which includes the necessary and sufficient elements for the systematic management of quality. Some organizations experience positive results from implementing an ISO 9000 based quality management system while others do not. Given its widespread use and the economic implications of ineffective implementation, this study analyzes the implementation process steps, the performance of system elements after certification and organization performance metrics. The methodology combines publicly available financial data and survey results to characterize the determinants of success for ISO 9000 quality management system implementation.

Abstract:
Thesis (MTech (Business Administration))--Cape Technikon, 2003.
This research report is based on a case study. It follows up on the research of a previous study by Muregerera (1996). His thesis was compiled in order to develop a model for a world-class manufacturing organization. For his case study, he chose Omnigraphics. Although his focus was on world class manufacturing principles, he did address Omnigraphics prior to the organization receiving ISO 9000 certification through the SASS. This research report therefore looks at the transformation that Omnigraphics went through, from an organization without a formal quality management system, to one with a functional quality management system. Chapter one defines quality management systems and the benefits of a formal quality management system. Current research is discussed in chapter two together with the benefits and requirements of the ISO system. Chapter three addresses the challenges, which Omnigraphics faced prior to ISO 9000 implementation and the changes that occurred once this organization was certified to ISO 9001. A comprehensive survey was done to identify the actual benefits that suppliers and customers see in dealing with an ISO 9000 listed organization. Chapter four looks at the participants of the survey as well as the questions posed. Chapter five gives the results of the survey in a graphical format as well as an interpretation of the results. The research report also focuses on the new revision of the ISO 9000 series and this is addressed in chapter six. The report closes by reviewing the research and looking at the future of the ISO 9000 series.

Abstract:
Since the introduction of ISO 9000 in 1987 there has been a tremendous growth in the number of companies seeking registration and certification, both in developed and developing countries. Although there is a wealth of literature on ISO 9000 implementation in developed countries and in some developing countries, it was found that there is relatively little materials related to recent study on the factors that influence ISO 9000 implementation in Saudi manufacturing industry. This topic has not received enough attention and certainly there is lack of these studies in the Middle East countries. Therefore, the aim of this research is to investigate, identify and analyse the factors that influence implementation of ISO 9000 in Saudi manufacturing industries. Both questionnaires and pairwise comparison interviews were employed to achieve the study objectives. The questionnaire aimed to investigate the ISO 9000 implementation factors in Saudi manufacturing industry, while pairwise comparison interviews aimed to rank the priorities of the most important factors. In terms of data analysis, a variety of analytical tools were used to deal with qualitative/quantitative and objective/subjective nature of the study. The tools used include multiple regression analysis, hypothesis testing and Analytical hierarchy process (AHP), Data analysis is contribution of this research to enhance a body of knowledge concerning ISO 9000 in relation to manufacturing organizations in Saudi Arabia. The findings revealed that top management support, work system and quality guidelines are the most important factors influencing the successful implementation of ISO 9000 in the manufacturing industry. Additionally, AHP result shows that Saudi manufacturing organisations should be aware of three main factors in order to successfully implement ISO 9000. These factors are; top management commitment, customer satisfaction and training and education. This research will fill the gaps in the existing literature. Moreover, the result of the findings from this industrial survey is also applicable to some extent to ISO implementation in the other Arab countries.

Abstract:
Introduction: In order to maintain strong relationships with customers, a lot of firms have invested in improving quality; this has led to an increase of quality programs. One of the most prominent quality standards is the ISO 9000 series, however prior research has different views whether or not the standards are beneficial. Two of the areas where disagreement exists regarding ISO 9000, are its effect on customer satisfaction and furthermore how the different motives behind the implementation can affect the outcome of ISO 9000. Hence this paper aimed to seek an explanation between these two matters and fill the research gap, where it was conducted on companies deployed in Sweden. Purpose: The purpose with this research is to explain how the different motives behind the implementation of ISO 9000 effect customer satisfaction. Methodology: A quantitative study was performed, with a cross-sectional research approach, where a questionnaire was used to collect the data. This resulted in 102 answers, where the questionnaire was sent out by e-mail to one representative for each firm. Conclusion: The study concluded that it was no difference between extrinsic and intrinsic motivation to implement ISO 9000 and its effect on perceived quality, perceived value and customer expectations. It was also discovered that those who had the ISO 9000 series performed well with regards to their customer satisfaction

Sharif, I. M. "The barriers affecting the implementation of quality management system-ISO 9000 in Libyan manuafacturing public sector organisations." Thesis, University of Salford, 2005. http://usir.salford.ac.uk/26909/.

Full text
Abstract:
The number of organisations with ISO 9000 certification over the world has increased dramatically in the last decade in developed and developing nations. The new standard ISO 9001:2000 is a way for an organisation to manage internal and external customer satisfaction and demonstrate continuous improvement. In Libya four Manufacturing Public Sector Organisations (LMPS0s) have got ISO 9000 certification, for exporting their products to reduce Libya's reliance on oil revenue. The low number of certified LMPSOs suggests that there are barriers affecting these organisations achieving ISO 9000 certification. In similar countries, for example, UAE they have more than nine hundred organisations registered with the certification. Therefore the aim of this research was "to identify and analyse the barriers that affect the implementation of a quality management system (QMS-ISO 9000 in Libyan Manufacturing Public Sector Organisations (LMPS0s))". From the literature review many barriers faced by many organisations, from different countries around the world, in their implementation process, were identified. Also, a conceptual framework was developed. There is a lack of empirical research on barriers affecting the new standard implementation, and the number of studies in Arabic countries is very limited with respect to the available literature in Western countries. To get an in-depth understanding of the barriers affecting LMPS0s, two case studies were carried out. A comprehensive list and in-depth understanding of barriers was identified by this research. Some of them (19) were identified as being unique to the Libyan culture in that they have not been reported before in the literature. Some of them are similar to barriers reported in Arabic (20), Islamic (19), Western (20) and other countries (32) such as Asian and South American countries. Therefore, this research makes a contribution to this area by adding to the limited literature. Another contribution of this research is that it has specifically filled the gap in knowledge in Libyan studies and in Arabic studies in general. Some recommendations for further research have been derived from this research.

Abstract:
The objective of the reported research is to investigate the contribution which can be made to Quality Management System design and implementation through the application of discrete event simulation methods. Today's highly competitive world has forced manufacturing and service organisations to find ways to reduce costs while maintaining customer satisfaction and making continuous improvement to both products and/or services as well as processes. In approaching these demands the establishment of quality systems standards, such as ISO 9000, has been considered as one of the possible solutions. From another point of view, businesses have been making increasing use of simulation modelling as a powerful technique to reduce the risk in the process of decision-making by evaluating and analysing alternative strategies and solution in system design and improvement. Having considered the importance of quality management systems and standards as well as the capabilities of computer systems a generic simulation model for Quality Management Systems, as defined by the relevant standards, is defined and its use in a case study is demonstrated and evaluated in detail. The overall result of the research illustrates the feasibility of using computer simulation in the area of quality management and great benefits achieved by this application.

Full text
Abstract:
Software implementation projects struggle with the delicate balance of low cost, on-time delivery and quality. The methodologies and processes used to create and maintain a quality software system are expensive to deploy and result in long development cycle-time. However, without their deployment into the software implementation life-cycle, a software system will be undependable, unsuccessful. The purpose of this research is to identify a succinct set of software implementation success criteria and assess the key independent constructs, activities, carried out to ensure a successful implementation project. The research will assess the success of a software implementation project as the dependent construct of interest and use the software process model (methodology) as the independent construct. This field research involved three phases: (1) criteria development, (2) data collection, and (3) testing of hypotheses and discriminant analysis. The first phase resulted in the development of the measurement instruments for the independent and dependent constructs. The measurement instrument for the independent construct was representative of the criteria from highly regarded software implementation process models and methodologies, e.g., ISO9000, Software Engineering Institute's Capability Maturity Model (SEI CMM). The dependent construct was developed from the categories and criteria from the Delone and McLean (1992) MIS List of Success Measures. The data collection and assessment phase employed a field survey research strategy to 80 companies involved in internal software implementation. Both successful and unsuccessful software implementation projects (identified by the Delone/McLean model) participated. Results from 165 projects were collected, 28 unsuccessful and 137 successful. The third phase used ANOVA to test the first 11 hypotheses and employed discriminant analysis for the 12th hypothesis to identify the "best set" of variables, criteria, that discriminate between successful and unsuccessful software implementation projects. Twelve discriminating variables out of 67 were identified and supported as significant discriminators between successful and unsuccessful projects. Three of the 11 constructs were found not to be significant investments for the successful projects.

Abstract:
Activity-based costing (ABC) is one of the most-researched management accounting areas that can improve organisational performance (OP). However, the studies on ABC and its impact on OP were still deficient and contradictory. Furthermore, ABC might be the most advantageous approaches used concurrently with ISO 9000. This study aims to investigate the impact of the extent of ABC use and the extent of ISO 9000 implementation on OP in order to identify the role of ABC and ISO 9000 in improving OP, and, in addition, to assess the combined effects of ABC and ISO 9000 on OP. Two conceptual models were developed to illustrate the relationships between variables. There were 601 usable questionnaires (19.36 percent) received; 191 organisations that adopted both ABC and ISO 9000 compared to 410 organisations that adopted only ISO 9000. Three data analysis techniques were employed: exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and structural equation modelling (SEM). EFA and CFA results provide evidence that the extent of ABC use (CA: cost analysis, CS: cost strategy, CE: cost evaluation), the extent of ISO 9000 implementation (MP: management principle, CP: Cooperation principle) and organisational performance (OPP: operational performance, FP: financial performance) are multidimensional. SEM results indicate the extent of ABC use directly improves OPP and subsequently indirectly improves FP through OPP. On the other hand, the extent of ISO 9000 implementation of organisations that adopted only ISO 9000 improves neither OPP nor FP. However, the management principle (MP) of organisations that adopted both ABC and ISO 9000 can directly improve both OPP and FP, and subsequently indirectly improve FP through OPP. The result implies a potential synergy effect of ABC and ISO 9000, which extends the body of knowledge of management accounting and quality management research.

Abstract:
The ISO 9000 standards are widely used throughout the world, and are becoming the most important quality standards. Thousands of enterprises all over the world have already adopted these standards, with many more in the process of doing so. A range of benefits can be achieved by the implementation of ISO 9000 standards, such as increased customer satisfaction, reduced defects, improved efficiency of the quality system, and improved market share. However Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) face difficulties when implementing ISO 9000 standards. This can be due to employees’ internal resistance to change, paperwork consumption, and high implementation and maintenance costs. Most SMEs are unable to cover the expenses of training and development programmes as a result of restricted financial resources. The managers of SMEs planning to implement ISO 9000 standards and maintain the certification of ISO 9001 standard for long periods should create an empowering work environment in which continuous improvement can take place. The aim of this research is to examine the relationships between the work environment and success of ISO 9000 implementation in the context of SMEs. This study begins with the completion of a comprehensive literature review focused on Enterprise Strategy, ISO 9000 Standards and Organisational Development. The literature review is followed by the research methodology, which illustrates the methods and research tools used to collect data pertinent to this research. These include exploratory survey and case studies which led to the main findings of the research. The collected data have been analysed through the use of Social Package Statistical Software (SPSS) and Microsoft’s Excel software. The findings of this research show that there are critical success factors that impact the work environment. These factors are represented in terms of temperature, noise, job security, individual recognition, salary, reward systems, quality awareness, and relationships. By integrating the literature review and the research findings, a simple work environment model has been devised. This model has been designed with consideration to the combination of factors described in the motivation theories of Maslow and Herzberg, along with health and safety legislations in the work place. This research contributes to the redefinition of the work environment in ISO 9001 standard. The researcher has designed the Work Environment Assessment Guide as a document to aid SMEs in evaluating and subsequently improving their work environment.

Abstract:
106
Taiwan's economy is mainly composed of small and medium-sized enterprises, accounting for 97.69% of the total number of entrepreneurs. In 2011, the ratio is 79% in micro-enterprises, showing that micro-enterprises are the largest number of business and service industries in Taiwan. However, the changes in the overall international and domestic environment bring a great impact on these industries and carry severe challenges. What’s worse, China’s rapid growing economy even makes the development of the small and medium-sized enterprises in Taiwan more difficult, especially when China established ASEAN10+6. In order to increase the competition, companies can choose to establish an ISO 9001 quality management system, hoping to increase customer satisfaction through product quality improvement and company management. ISO is an abbreviation of the International Standards Organization and it is an international standard recognized by the world. This is a case study and aims to examine whether it improves product quality and enterprise management by using the ISO International Standards Organization Quality Management System.

Abstract:
This research studies implementation issues related to the emergence of the latest version of the ISO 9000 quality standard, ISO 9001:2000. This version has abandoned the structure of 20 sections and now has five comprehensive sections covering all the previous requirements, with some modifications and the introduction of new requirements. The ISO 9001:2000 standard has introduced a process-based approach that considers the quality management system as a single large process consisting of many smaller processes. The thesis focuses on the implementation of ISO 9001:2000 through an empirical study on Canadian firms. Results show that, whether external or internal reasons provided the impetus for registration, Canadian companies registered under the new ISO standards generally face the same degree of difficulty in implementation. However, internally driven companies have less difficulty for certain items. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)

Abstract:
The term quality doesn’t leave anyone indifferent this days, in the industrial world. It refers to several concepts that can be found and studied from a Quality Management System. Quality and customer satisfaction are the main goal of a company, and with the help of an efficient Management System it becomes increasingly a way of differentiating companies towards their clients. Organizations recognize that the road to implementing and certifying a Quality Management System can be complex, nevertheless, it is necessary for companies to implement this standard, since quality is fundamental today and is a differentiation factor. This study aims to describe the implementation of a Quality Management System in a textile company. In this way, this dissertation aims to study whether the implementation of a Quality Management System, according to ISO 9001, brings value to the company or not, and what are the company results after the implementation. In order to analyze this impact, data were collected before and after the implementation in order to compare them and evaluate the improvements developed by the Management System. Through these results it can be seen that ISO 9001 standard has, in fact, brought significant improvements in to the company. This standard not only helps the company to measure its problems but also helps to solve them. Before implementation, BeStitch did not make any measurements and did not even set goals for not having something to base it on. After the standard implementation, it was already possible for BeStitch to take measurements and thus be able to quantify its main problems.

Abstract:
Thesis is submitted in partial fulfilment for the degree of Masters of Science in Building (Project Management in Construction) to the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, School of Construction Economics and Management at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, 2017
Purpose: There has been much assertion about how ISO 9001 facilitates TQM implementation among ISO 9001 registered construction companies. However, the success rate of TQM implementation among ISO 9001 registered companies varies. The aim of this study was to investigate TQM implementation among ISO 9001 registered construction companies in South Africa. Three objectives were also established to aid in achieving the aim. Methodology: A cross-sectional survey design using structured questionnaire to collect quantitative and qualitative data was adopted. Respondents were purposively sampled among ISO 9001 registered construction companies in South Africa. 70 completed questionnaires were obtained from the target of 100. Text-based (i.e., qualitative) data were analysed using qualitative content analysis while quantitative data were analysed descriptively. Findings: The main three findings include: (1) the prevalence of defining quality as meeting clients’ expectations and assessing quality through internal inspection; (2) highest level of agreement on TQM being implemented through checking design conformance to standards and lowest level of agreement on formal training on TQM; and (3) customer feedback exercises and supplier relationship were indicated as being the least implemented ISO 9001 principles. Implications: The main practical implication of this study is identifying how TQM is being implemented among ISO 9001 registered construction companies in South Africa and the challenges they face. The main theoretical implication is being able to add to the existing studies validating ISO 9001 registered construction companies can and should implement TQM across their processes. Limitations: The main limitation has been restricted to not collecting data on the professional backgrounds and years of experience of the study participants. A finding during the pilot testing necessitated the preference to indicate job roles as against professional backgrounds.
XL2018

Abstract:
The global construction market is currently worth $9.5 trillion. With an estimated volume output growth of 85% by 2030, it is going to register an increase of a $6 trillion in its value. The construction industry is a vital industry to achieve economic prosperity. Nonetheless, Tunisia, among other developing countries, is facing some barriers, affecting its construction companies’ performance, specifically when it comes to quality and cultural practices. In 2013, this dynamic industry is contributing by 7% to the Tunisian GDP ($3.3 billion), employing 3,555 people in total, and is expected to grow by 1.54% in the next four years. Nevertheless, this industry is facing a competitiveness problem. With only 11.2% of ISO 9001 certified companies, this industry is lacking some quality practices. The review of literature has demonstrated the relevance of the QMS and ISO 9001 certification in construction. They enhance companies’ performance, by ensuring cost efficiency and customer satisfaction. However, implementing such a system does not necessarily validate its effectiveness. Previous studies have shown that the organizational culture is underrated in this field, while it is a critical component of ensuring the success of the implementation of QMS. The objective of this thesis is to answer the following questions that arise from this context: - What is the construction companies’ effectiveness in achieving the principles of ISO 9001 in Tunisia? - What is the impact of the implementation of QMS by construction companies on its performance? - What are the principal barriers to the implementation of the ISO 9001 in Tunisia? The methodology used, in this context, includes a primary research of the ISO 9001 practices in the global market, and a survey distributed to 15 ISO 9001 certified Tunisian companies working in construction. It identified the barriers related to this matter, examines the current status of the QMS implementation. A specific company was then selected to evaluate the contribution of ISO 9001 certification towards achieving its qualitative objectives in quality management and its financial performance. This assessment has been effectuated based on the most relevant tangible and intangible KPIs of the company. The outcomes from this research led to a set of recommendations that would help companies in the Tunisian construction industry improve the effectiveness of their QMS and enhance their customer satisfaction and their competitiveness.

Abstract:
The increase on the implementation of Quality Management Systems, QMS, namely the ISO 9001, shows the awareness that quality is a factor of competitiveness and differentiation between organizations. However there are some clear difficulties in the implementation of a QMS, most notably the lack of methodology, mainly on small and medium-sized enterprises, SME.The present thesis is supported on the work developed on an internship at the company XRW - Racing Parts, a SME, the main focus was the implementation and certification of their Quality Management System by the NP EN ISO 9001:2015. Based on this case, it is intended to present a methodology of implementation of a QMS, compliant with ISO 9001:2015, directed to industrial SME. It is intended that the model identifies and characterizes the main conceptual stages of the implementation, and also the quality management tools that can be used to help the implementation. In short, this paper intends to clarify the main activities within the stages to be developed in order to meet the ISO 9001:2015 requirements. In order to achieve this goal, the adopted methodology was structured in two main steps: the literature review and the development of a case study. With the literature review a conceptual model is built for the implementation of a QMS. Later it is applied on a successful case study, a metal sector SME, which helps making the understanding more practical and illustrative for future implementations of the ISO 9001:2015.As a result an implementation methodology of the ISO 9001:2015 was obtained, suited for SME that can support these companies in overcoming the setbacks found throughout the implementation process. It can be called an integrated methodology since it includes all the stages from before deciding to adopt the ISO 9001:2015, until the certification of the enterprizes by an external entity. This does not intend to be an example of strict application to possible implementation projects, instead it should an example that can be adjusted. In order to do that the reader must understand the foundation that led to the main conceptual stages of this thesis, and thus adapt to other contexts.

Abstract:
98
In face of new, complicated, and variable world conditions in the 21st century, the National Armed Forces Logistics Management System needs to possess necessary abilities and professional knowledge so as to construct an effective logistics support system. Military factories play a critical role in the research, development, production, and maintenance of military weapons. To cope with modern high-tech weapon systems, they should introduce ISO9001 quality control system to strengthen their production and maintenance techniques and maintain the performance of all weapon equipment through quality management. This study used a military factory of Combined Logistics Command, Ministry of National Defense, as an example. Through literature review and collection of expert opinions on motivation for introduction of ISO9001 and key factors of introduction, this study induced the main factors affecting introduction of ISO9001, success of introduction, and organizational performance. The factors were modified according to high-ranking managers and experts. Later, a survey was conducted to statistically extract motivation factors and key success factors affecting the case’s introduction of ISO9001. The main findings were as follows: 1.Motivation for introduction of ISO9001 could be divided into intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. 2.In terms of perceived importance, six key factors were extracted, including “high-ranking executives’ support and supervision”, “education training”, “quality awareness”, “employee recognition and standardization”, “continuous improvement”, and “rationalization of quality system”. 3.In terms of satisfaction with execution, four key factors were extracted, including “high-ranking executives’ support and leadership”, “organizational involvement and education training”, “standardization and systemization”, and “continuous improvement and service enhancement”. 4.In terms of organizational performance after introduction, four factors were extracted, including “strengthen quality awareness and construct standard procedures”, “improve professional image and implement quality controls”, and “emphasize armed forces’ (customer) satisfaction”. 5.Organizational performance was positively improved, but maintenance and continuous improvement of the performance depended on how much managers emphasize and intend to implement the system. Organizational members were highly sensitive to managers’ attitude. With sound quality control mechanisms, “high-ranking executives’ support and determination” becomes the most important factor affecting introduction of ISO9001 quality control system.
