Abstract:
Introduction: Isokinetic testing is used in rehabilitation settings on a regular basis, yet there is a lack of consistency in rest period usage among protocols. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish an optimal rest period that would allow reproducibility of strength during a common isokinetic strength-test. Methods: Twentyseven healthy college-aged males underwent isokinetic strength testing to determine peak torque at 60, 180 and 300 deg/sec, respectively. Work:rest ratios of 1:3, 1:8 and 1:12 were counterbalanced between sets. A 3 X 3 repeated measures ANOVA was used to analyze

Abstract:
Epidemiological research has identified thigh musculature and knee ligament injuries are of most concern in professional soccer. With strength identified as a modifiable risk factor, isokinetic dynamometry has become a popular means of injury screening. However, isokinetic assessments are criticised based on their lack of functional relevance to injury aetiology. Study one describes isokinetic screening of the thigh musculature in an elite cohort of male soccer players assessed at 60, 180 and 270º·s-1 across four knee joint angles (70-40°). This study identified strength characteristics were v

Abstract:
The problem of the study addressed knee injuries in college football. Imbalance of the musculature surrounding the knee would predispose the athlete to knee injury. Recognition of those who have muscular deficiencies would be a primary way of preventing knee injuries. The focus of the study was to determine if there was a significant difference in peak isokinetic torque of knee flexor and extensor muscles across speeds (60 degrees/second, 180 degrees/ second and 300 degrees/second) of a college football team subsequent to participation in a spring football season.

Abstract:
Muscle strength has been identified as an important contributor to athletic performance. Little attention however, has been paid to the specific relationship between peak isokinetic muscle strength and sprint starting performance. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of an adapted front knee angle, as determined by isokinetic assessment (the angle of peak torque production), on starting performance. Sixteen track sprinters, of elite-national or competitive-regional standard, were asked to perform eight sprints over 50m using four separate starting techniques. Technique 1 featur

The purpose of this study was to display increase in eccentric hamstring strength after 10-weeks training program. Secondly, if such an increase occurred, would this strength change result in altered landing kinetics and improved jumping performance? 27 recreational female athletes assigned into experimental (n = 14) and control (n = 13) groups. Baseline measures of landing kinetics were collected using a force plate, strength data and proprioceptive measurements were evaluated using an isokinetic dynamometer and vertical jump performance were determined by a jumping mat. Introduction: Rugby is a professional sport which places emphasises on strength, power, speed and endurance. Therefore the accurate assessment of rugby performance is very important for sports and exercise therapists to enable peak performance for the players. Lower limb strength is often tested by means of isokinetic testing, whilst functional power is tested by means of the vertical jump test. Sophisticated equipment used in the measurement of performance indicators, are often not available in smaller communities and rural areas. Muscle strength capabilities are a determinant in the ability to successfully accomplish everyday tasks. As such, the quantification of this aspect of human performance is of interest in many settings. Currently, the validity of muscle strength test results is reliant on the notion that during testing, the participant exerted an effort that is sincere, and that consisted of maximal voluntary contractions. Therefore, the ability to differentiate between maximal and non maximal muscular exertions is of importance. The purpose of this dissertation was to develop and validate probability-based d
